This issue occurs when Windows is reporting a gamepad, joystick, or other input device providing a non-neutral input. This is usually caused by:

Having a gamepad, flight stick, HOTAS, pedal, racing wheel, or any other kind of non-keyboard/non-mouse input device plugged in. Simply unplug the device from your computer.
Having vjoy installed. If you've ever tried to use a GameCube controller with your PC, you probably have it installed. Opening your computer's Device Manager window should allow you to disable or uninstall it.

I haven't been able to get this game to run in over a year. Now that we're at v1, I thought it was time to give it another try.

I can see the Hapoo Games screen, and then the opening cutsceen rolls. When that ends or get skipped, I get to the blue foresty-looking screen that I assume is a title screen, then the game freezes and then closes after a few seconds. There is no error message. This is the same issue I had before during EA. I'm on a fairly new Razer laptop running Windows 10 and all my drivers are up to date.

I have done every troubleshooting method I have found in various combinations with no success, including:
Turning off V-Sync in Nvidia
Running Steam in admin mode
Running RoR2 in various compatibility modes
Reinstalling the game (hurr)
Disabling antivirus (how is this a thing?)
Verifying that RoR2 is not being blocked by the firewall
Making sure I have the VSCode C++ or whatever distributable installed
Disabling the steam overlay in game
Running the game while disconnected from a network
Verifying the game files in Steam
And, of course, restarting my computer

Any other ideas? I've spend hours over the past YEAR trying to get this frickin game to run with no success.

I have my DxDiag on hand if that's needed. I also have an error from the Event Viewer that seems to indicate that the issue appears to be C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\ntdll.dll
I've tried updating windows/reinstalling that dll but didn't have much success.

@granite chasm if you do end up fixing it, let me know. I spent a good 4+ hours this morning attempting to fix it. Uninstalled/reboot/reinstall/reboot. fact reset pc. reinstalled gpu drivers. completely wiped steam. Changed DNS servers, changed MTU size. tested on 2.4hz network, as well as 5hz. win10 pro. i7-6700k, 32gb 3000mhz ram. 2080.

I think Risk of Rain2 is crashing my PC. I can play Overwatch and Valorant for hours on end, but if I play RoR2, my entire pc reboots usually about 30minutes into a game. It's not constant and sometimes I can play RoR2 for hours, but unexpectedly my system will just reboot.

@fossil pier / @north anchor I had this issue with my computer reporting an memory access violation in windows event logs. It ended up being an XMP profile that was being applied in my bios without me knowing. Disable it, or set your RAM speeds/timing to factory defaults for the RAM and not what the motherboard recommends. I have not had a crash since I've made this change. Good luck.

I play with a friend in multiplayer and since a few patches it's been unplayable : whether he hosts or I host, after a while (15 to 45 minutes) the non host gets a black screen and is sent back to the main menu. No error message or anything. Internet seems to be working fine as discord works normally at the moment of the crash. Has anyone experienced this and/or knows how to solve this issue?

it worked for me the launching problem ! Now it's loading in the void :)
How I did :

I went to : https://partner.steamgames.com/doc/sdk/api and downloaded steamworks_sdk_149
then I put the two files located here "sdk\redistributable_bin\win64" in the steamworks thing you unzipped, into the files' game, replacing the old steamapi64.dll
and it works

it'll replace the new .dll with the old and mess it up

I found a fix for mismatching mods, if you're just playing with friends, use a mod manager (i recommend r2modman) And literally uninstall everything, get a fresh game. Uninstall reinstall the entire game. Have your friend (or you) create the mod list that you want, have them edit the configs they want, and go to your settings in r2modman and have your friend export their file as a code. On your end, create a new profile and import that code, double check and make sure ALL MODS that you have are EXACTLY the same and all configs are also EXACTLY the same. This solved the issue for me

@Honuel#7563 You already created a network, Its named Honuel.
Now you need your friend to join it. Give him the name and pass for this network.
He can join it with Network menu on top or with num+ key on keyboard.
Once he joins your network - he can copy your ip in this network 26.123.143.52
All is left to do - is to host a lan game from your game host 1 console command.
And to join in with connect 26.123.143.52:7777 from his game console.

I'm having this issue where the game will randomly crash my pc. No other games does it. Either forces restart or BSOD. Using latest geforce gtx 1060 gameready drivers. Hi, I keep getting black screens in the game when playing with my friends on private lobby, its occurring after teleport event (when teleporting to the next stage), the screen become black for 2-3 min and then it exits the game to the main menu, didn't find any solution yet, anyone here have a solution for this issue?

Been getting this same error screen for quite some time now, even before the 1.0 launch. Can't specify when it started but in my output log it says this. Is it just because of my GPU? I have a 1660Ti and from time to time the game works just fine, in fact I played it earlier today.

Tried moving it back and forth in between my C and D drive, reinstalling Steam and the game and nothing has worked so far

After around 5 more runs, even reinstalling and verifying files multiple times, I can conclude that, for my specific device, the only interactable that can spawn for me is the teleporter. No chests, shrines, or otherwise. It may be luck, but it also seems as if the only boss that spawns, is the jellyfish.

It's a way that people give themselves a bunch of lunar coins, or modify their game to have all content unlocked

If you used another player's file that had installed mods you don't have, maybe it would have caused issue. But seeing as you didn't know what i was talking about, i would assume you didn't do that

So, this has been a problem for me for a while now. I don't have wifi at my house (yeah, yeah, my parents don't believe in getting it for some reason), so I use my mobile hotspot to access the internet at home. However, there is a secondary location I go to a lot which is sort of like a second home, and there's decent wifi there. Whenever I'm on my hotspot, I can never connect to multiplayer games with friends or with randos on ROR2, it just goes to a black screen and back to the menu or a halfway loaded lobby. If I'm connected to the wifi at the secondary location, tho, everything works completely fine. That's only a problem on this game, however, because I have no trouble playing even full Battlefield servers. Does anyone know why that is?

@agile wind games like battlefield have dedicated servers. No player is hosting a game for others in this case. This game however is based on p2p connection type with middle point of steam servers. Steam servers do no host a game, they only pass connection from host (The person who creates the lobby) to all clients (Those who connect to the host) Host needs to have good internet, not only on download, but on upload speeds too. And there is not so much about speed, but about the delay the data goes from host to client and back. This called the ping (delay, latency).
There is a ton of stuff why connection could be bad.
General ones are NAT, provider's setup, load, firewalls.

Hotspot or mobile internet is genneraly not sufficient to gaming, more so for hosting a game to someone else.

#

You need to check on your network for open ports (game uses 7777), for firewalls and from game console for ping. There is also an option for dedicated server. You might find some of those servers right now from multiplayer, they appear to be the only ones that actually return a ping reading instead of N/A at the moment.

#

Also there is a workaround, if you want to play with smeone specific and have troubles with your network setup.

the problem is I change the server ports in the config before I launch the server. So every time I've changed the ports the server has not been open, then after I change them I open the server and get that error

But then I get The prefab 'ArenaMissionController' has multiple NetworkIdentity components. There can only be one NetworkIdentity on a prefab, and it must be on the root object.

Dedicated servers seem broken on my end?
Worked before the update, now it doesn't show up in steam's server browser or the in-game server browser.
Guide is outdated and doesn't mention the in-game server browser 😢

My friends and I can still join my server through the in-game console, but still annoying.

Hey all, I was having some issues after 1.0 with FPS on my system. I was on the latest driver and was still seeing about half the FPS I used to get pre-1.0. This morning I saw there was an update for my gpu driver to v452.06 (released today I believe), once I installed that I was back up to the pre-1.0 framerate. Thought I'd mention it here in case anyone else is having this issue

When I get in the game and manage to play before it crashes, I get no issue with framerate or anything.

Everything can work perfectly fine but one game. It's actually very common for drivers to be improperly installed and only affect certain titles. DDU ensures a full clean slate to install a new set of drivers

I've heard of this problem a lot and though it doesnt happen to me, maybe getting into this habit will help preserve your progress

Go to your steam/userdata/[your user id]/632360/remote/ and copy the UserProfiles/ folder to another part of your computer as a backup in case it gets broken

Hey so Im having a weird problem where I have huge fps drops for a single moment whenever large hordes of enemies spawn. I assumed it was a hardware problem so I watched my task manager and had no spikes in anything whenever I began getting this fps drop. This happens in both single and multiplayer.

I am pretty sure it isn't a hardware issue because my friend is running the game flawlessly on his lower end pc.
My specs:
RTX 2070 ultra
i7 8700k
16GB ram
1TB SSD
Windows 10

Hello, I'm trying to set up a dedicated 1.0 server to play with a group of 5 people, but I can't seem to get one running.
Is this currently possible right now in 1.0? Our main goal is to be able to go past the current 4 player limit. If there are any other ways to do this or if someone could help me out I'd greatly appreciate it. Or if this question has been answered before, if I could be referred to that it would be great.

Ok, I got to a point where all of us can connect to the dedicated server but we can't select any options/characters/etc. Earlier the dedicated server would open up to a screen without any players on it, but now it's just a blank screen. I don't know if that has anything to do with the issue.

Ok this should be my final bigger post -
I'm trying to get a dedicated server up with a total of 5 players playing. I can get 4 of us to connect together, but when the 5th person tries to join, they get a "Not enough resources" error. I've raised the player count in the dedicated server to 16, and we also tried modded with TooManyFriends, but we don't get any different results.
Anyone have a solution?

Just got a response from the TooManyFriends mod devs, apparently the mod is bricked. The dev finished a fix, but it's not clean so they're releasing a clean version tomorrow.

So for people having FPS drops, you might wanna try this:
Open up boot.config in c:\program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Risk of Rain 2\Risk of Rain 2_Data\boot.config
find the line that says gfx-enable-native-gfx-jobs=
and add a 1 at the end.
So it looks like this: gfx-enable-native-gfx-jobs=1
Another option would be to try adding this at the line just before: gfx-enable-gfx-jobs=1

A lot of other games that use Unity have seen framerate drops wen those lines were removed from that file.

If you want to run a dedicated server right now you need to do two things. First, run a server software that will actually open the port correctly on your router, i used my plex port with plex running to do this. Second, have players in game use the console to join. Ctrl+alt+tilde=console in menu. Command is "Connect ip:port". Hopefully they fix the broken dedicated server software asap

Your log have nothing immidiatly usefull.
With random crashes helps:
-updated gpu driver (or older one, if you're already on lattest).
-disabled XMP profile from bios.
-disabled overclocking software, reverted values for cpu speed and ram frequrency.

Hey Im having some pretty significant FPS problems, with performance being overall bad, it starts at over 200 frames but it ends up dropping into the 60s/70s as soon as stage 5/6, which afaik shouldn't be the case with my specs, people start seeing frame drops like this like 2h in, not less than an hour in. I play on ultra at 1080p

My setup is 1080Ti, 3700x and 16GB ram.
Tried reinstalling, verifying the files, moving the game over to an SSD, forcing true fullscreen through the launch options and propably a few other things. It's an issue that I had all the way since march 2019 when the game first came out and it seems it's not been fixed for the release (I do think the performance is a bit better, I remember dropping into the 60s as soon as stage 2/3, but it's still not satisfactory at all). Any ideas ? I absolutely love this game, but frame issues like this are really making it hard for me to keep playing...

@main abyss this makes quite a bit of sense if you have your graphics and whatnot all maxed because the game starts spawning a lot at that point. I have a very good computer myself and honestly the easiest solution is turning down a few settings

@jovial inlet I've been playing with immediate Corpse Cleanup and 0 max corpses
As for shadows, I have them soft with medium resolution and 2 cascades.
Turns out someone already must've suggested this, and it didn't help a lot.

My friend and I just got this game, and we can't get multiplayer to work. Whenever I join a game I end up in the character selection, however it is very bugged (see screenshot). This has been happening to my friend as well. I tried joining other multiplayer games, but with the same problems.

My friends and I also had the issue where the multiplayer screen the blank lists

the solution ended up being related to having a VPN turned on, and turning off the VPN resolved the issue

Might wanna try this:
So for people having FPS drops, you might wanna try this:
Open up boot.config in c:\program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Risk of Rain 2\Risk of Rain 2_Data\boot.config
find the line that says gfx-enable-native-gfx-jobs=
and add a 1 at the end.
So it looks like this: gfx-enable-native-gfx-jobs=1
Another option would be to try adding this at the line just before: gfx-enable-gfx-jobs=1

A lot of other games that use Unity have seen framerate drops wen those lines were removed from that file.

I'm running into an inconsistent stutter issue. There's no real pattern to it. The game just decides "I'm going to completely stop for a split second." Audio freezes, game freezes, then resumes a moment later. It's not every X seconds or anything of that sort. Sometimes it's fine for 30 seconds, a minute, or sometimes it happens 5 seconds apart. No major CPU/GPU/RAM usage that seems to be contributing to this. In fact CPU/GPU drop when this happens.

change your display setting resolution in your graphics card for the risk of rain 2 program to a lower resolution. Upon launching it will change your screen res to lowered res and the will sync to that resolution

So I managed to fix my PC crashes in RoR2. I had to remove the FPS restriction and make it unlimited. Managed to do a few runs no issues afterward.

The game probably is using both the uncapped main-loop and the capped main-loop at the same time and that leads to unpredictable behavior. Like crashes.

Hello, I'm the Taiwan Formosa Server host in RoR2, currently there's a bug inside an assembly, it is not a proper way to share the files because it against the rules and showing non respect to those hard work RoR2 developers. I'd suggest to be patient and wait for the hotfix patch, good game worth waiting, it needs time.

Hello, my pc gets up to 99 - 100 degrees Celsius while playing RoR2 within 15-20minutes of playing. RoR is the only game that does it. I've applied new thermal paste, cleaned my PC, verified my game, I'm not sure what's wrong or how to fix it.

I modded a little today

manually, then I realized there was a mod manager so I decided to download it but it had no mods within the manager so I assume it doesn't detect previously installed mods

so I wanted to restart and just use the manager

so I deleted what mod files I had, and the folders that they were contained in. I uninstalled the game and mod manager

I reinstalled

#

now when I launch the game, my cursor is doing the buffering thing and after a few seconds, the game goes into not responding and crashes.

Hi, has anybody had issues with prismatic trials ending prematurely but the system recognizing that run as "complete" and registering the run-time as your best? I died with Mercenary during a run around 2:35 which has for some reason become my "best" score. My actual best is 3:25 as Loader.

I have a local server that I've installed the dedicated client via steamcmd on. People outside my network can connect via console, however I will periodically receive this error when I connect. I recall seeing that private dedicated servers (those not listed by steam) are still functional. I am able to connect to my own server, but I am unable to interact with any of the buttons and the Ready button gives a NullReferenceException when pressed (server constantly prints the same error; I only get a black screen and cursor when running without headless=). I have port forwarded both 27015 and 27016 (as listed in the server configuration). On the client, I am also seeing The prefab 'ArenaMissionController' has multiple NetworkIdentity components.. and A connection has already been set as ready. There can only be one.. Does it sound like I missed part of the setup or has there been a way to resolve this issue?

Annoying bug makes the Swarm artifact stop doing it's effect of double enemy spawn while maintaining the enemy full HP. If the bug happens while also having the Sacrifice artifact, item drop rate is halved while the enemy spawn is still the same, please fix. Happened after one or more runs in multiplayer.

hey, does anyone know if the mods work in multiplayer again or are they still broken? (mainly the goku and sniper mods) :/

Resolved/workaround; user installed ror2modman, suspect mods caused behavior

@jagged nacelle 1. Make sure you have visual C++ 2015 installed.
2. Are you installing from steam or steam CMD?
3. Have you port forwarded the IP of the server with both TCP and UDP traffic?
4. Have you port forwarded sv_port?
