So i can play the game perfectly fine. Everything works and i can play to about 10-25 minutes in, when the pc freezes. Just happened after the artifacts update, but we were able to play a few 3 hour runs before this started happening (when we were using artifacts more often)

^ came to report the same issue. A lot of lag. I'm playing with my girlfriend between South USA and Southeast Asia. We used to have decent connections and could play, but recently (past 2 months?) the lag has been unbearable for whomever is not hosting. Cannot spawn into maps for 1 minute, can't open loot boxes or pick up items, interacting with objects far from where the host sees their model, etc. Other games are not having this issue, nor any voip programs. Does anyone have any advice on recovering from or preventing a black screen? I've had it happen on 2.5 hour+ runs with a lot of items, so I totally understand that. However, I just crashed on a 90 minute standard run going from the Obelisk to the Beady of Fealty boss zone...that does not seem like an intensive enough loading screen to justify crashing lol. Any advice for me?

I don't think it's my PC or internet connection (not even sure if RoR2 requires internet to play single player). I also would assume RoR2 in general is less resource intensive than other big name games; for example, I can play Overwatch and Apex on near-max settings with 120+ fps. I could understand RoR2 hogging resources in long runs when there are a lot of items activating and monsters spawning...but not at the 90 minute mark! I've tried watching task manager but I haven't learned anything useful. In my most recent crash just trying to load into the beads of fealty room to finish up a monsoon run, the game crashed (perma black screen) but still looked fine in task manager. It was consuming 8.2% CPU and my overall usage was 44.6%.

a couple days ago my risk of rain 2 became incredibly laggy. My fps was down a lot. It usually runs fine as i use incredibly low settings and it was working fine for the update too.

Actually if you have a back up save you can restore your save file.

...does anyone know what causes this? It's a regular stutter every two or so seconds, that causes a sudden drop in framerate like a microfreeze. going offline helped, but it came back as soon as I went online again. It's making it quite difficult to play, as I'm basically losing a quarter of a second every two seconds. And sometimes i get big fps drops.

my internet speed is around 20mb/s and my friend has 100mb/s but when we host a private game it lags a lot. In the survivor selection menu it takes around 5 seconds before the survivor changes. And in game sometimes i just spectate him i dont even get into the game. any tips on how to solve this? It worked before today but not anymore. my challenges have not been working and I can't unlock things on Nintendo Switch. when I go into my log book and go to the challenges they don't show up, all I see is the white outline of the box where they are supposed to be. I've tried to unlock things like the character acrid but when I finish the void fields and end the run I don't get the to be left alone achievement and when I go to character select he still wasn't unlocked and I've to unlock other things like the alternate secondary for loader but the same thing happens.

okay maybe i need more detail? so the problem im having is a regular framerate dip that worsens over time, and hits whenever something happens. Like, I'm just running around and my game is seesawing between 60 and 2 fps, making it nearly impossible to aim or dodge. It starts off as about 0.25 seconds whenever something happens, and becomes 0.5 seconds, then sometimes 0.75 seconds... I've seen firing trigger it, along with items triggering and enemies spawning. It feels like the game suddenly jumped in spec requirements, and only seems to happen in ror2. Changing graphics did nothing, stutter mods reducing garbage collection did nothing, updating drivers did nothing, turning steam off online mode worked (kinda) but the problem just reappeared as soon as i reconnected.
steam cloud has been turned off, steam overlay has been disabled, everything seems to be off that could possibly cause this, but ror2 continues to stutter. It's a proper stutter too, everything stutters whenever it stutters. Apparently its means the laptop isn't powerful enough to run RoR2 but uh... considering this started happening and never happened before im not so sure.

Hey guys I'm having an issue where I can start up the game fine play for about 15 minutes and then the game and my computer completely freeze up and become unresponsive which forces me to shut down my computer manually. There is a temporary workaround I found on steam forums but it seemed to only work for two people on the server at once, once we tried three one person would always get kicked.
From steam: "found workaround for current version Blackscreen .
Try it "no headless mode" on Dedicated Server.
Should edit to boot.config, delete "headless=" line."

I've been having issues launching the game since trying to stream it through obs. I payed a couple days ago with no issues but now the game freezes after 10 seconds or so, except when in the logbook tab. I've restarted my pc and started the game without having any other apps open and the issues the same. My game drivers are up to date, I'm not sure what else to do.

So I have a problem that I tried to fix a while ago, but the person I asked about it stopped messaging me after a bit.
After about thirty to forty minutes, the game will freeze. After about three seconds, there will be a jitter as though it's going to resume, before it freezes again and the window pops up saying that it's stopped responding. My friend in multiplayer said that my character was still there, just moving in a straight line in a random direction even if I wasn't pressing anything on my keyboard.
I've tried solutions from similar problems, such as increasing and decreasing RoR2's priority in task manager, running it with nothing else going on in the background, updating my drivers, turning all of the graphics options to the lowest possible setting, etc. None of it works.

I've been having issues launching the game since trying to stream it through obs. I payed a couple days ago with no issues but now the game freezes after 10 seconds or so, except when in the logbook tab. I've restarted my pc and started the game without having any other apps open and the issues the same. My game drivers are up to date, I'm not sure what else to do.

crashdumps in 99% cases are located by those 2 paths.
crashdumps have no use for anyone but devs.
Logs - do have some use, its easyly readable and we can deduct what happened in some cases.

Having an issue where two of my buddies cannot connect to each other if they host, but both can connect to my lobby fine. They either get an all black screen on attempt to join and have to restart, or they get into the lobby but can't select a character. It's a tad inconvenient that I am the only one who can host if we want to play, so if anyone has any ideas on a fix or something for this it would be appreciated. They've both already tried to verify game files, restart the game, restart PC, etc.

Is there anyway to read crash logs? I'm getting pretty consistent crashes and it affects hosting, especially when I host (since I have the best PC of my friends). I don't think I've got any sort of issues with my PC since it's pretty good. Most, if not all crashes are on multiplayer, and are entirely random, from occurring 2 mins into a run, or 40 minutes. It also seems like lowering my graphics settings makes the game lag even more for me.

Risk of rain 2 Crashes with unity error. I am running in admin mode and I have verified integrity. I am also running it on the lowest GPU settings and have tried everything from Underclocking over clocking and removing clock settings from my GPU.

RoR2 is the only game that seems to crash. The error crash report says some shaders are causing the problem but I straight up don't get it. This has been happening to me since RoR2 was released and re-installing windows and the game hasn't helped.

ok so idk if this is where this goes, but im having trouble joining my friend in multiplayer. We are using steam for invites and such. when i go to multiplayer the lobby(?) in the top right corner does not show up. When they send me any type of invite it does not let me join and if it does im stuck on the multiplayer screen. I've succesfully edited the txt file that was on the site and replaced ALL the text in the xml file in said location by the text that was in the txt file
and when I started the game and steam back up it gave me the same screen as before shown in the screenshot

I'm not sure what's different about your setup that would cause that to happen because it's from a piece of code that should be pretty stable so I'm hoping it's just a fluke and the next update doesn't have the issue for you

when I load the dump file into visual studio I get a view like this:
Basically the program is in the middle of some function at the bottom. In the middle of doing that function, it started doing another one, which is the one above it in the list. And so on. This is pretty much how all computer programs work so that much is normal and not cause for a crash.
the list of things it was in the middle of at the moment the crash occurred is what ends up in the .dmp file

Hey everyone! My friends and I have had problem since yesterday where we cannot join each other's private lobbies. Basically what happens is we are invited or join manually and: 1. Dont see a list of players on the right; 2. One of us can see the others in the room, but not vice-versa; or 3. We get blackscreened and rerouted to main menu. In any circumstance if the host starts the game, no one follows them into character select. We have also tried invite and join from the character select screen, which usually is the culprit of circumstance 3. Please let me know if there is any fix for this.

the only other known solution is a bit more complicated and involves forwarding ports to host the game and have people connect manually by IP
if you're willing to do that, you can forward port 7777 to your machine, open the console at the menu with ctrl+alt+~, then type host 1
you can then give your ip to your friends and have them connect through the console with connect ipGoesHere:7777

Is there a console command to gain control of a character in multiplayer? Regular mp lags for us, so we use dedicated server and direct connect through console, but I get disconnects here and there. When I connect back, I go to spectate mode, and can only join after the current level, as if I'm dead. Other players see me dead too. Any way to kinda resurrect me?

Check the cooling a little bit, dust can really accumulate over time.
Also, check your processors to see if they've been overclocked. I don't find it likely they'd sell overclocked computers without you knowing, but it's worth checking. The error can also sometimes be caused by voltage issues, but that's rather rare.

ended up picking up nodejs for the first time and having everything async makes sense for a bot but it sure is annoying to write for
on top of not having strong typing which provides better analysis, refactoring, and suggestion tools

Press the key, that's usually the solution. If that doesn't work, might as well try alt tabbing.

Every time I've had connectivity issues in this game, it's always been in relation to the hosts PC or internet connection.
Next time you play with your friends, try letting someone else host instead and see if that resolves it.

This issue occurs when Windows is reporting a gamepad, joystick, or other input device providing a non-neutral input. This is usually caused by:
- Having a gamepad, flight stick, HOTAS, pedal, racing wheel, or any other kind of non-keyboard/non-mouse input device plugged in. Simply unplug the device from you computer.
- Having vjoy installed. If you've ever tried to use a GameCube controller with your PC, you probably have it installed. Opening your computer's Device Manager window should allow you to disable or uninstall it.

So does steam works just not work with dedicated server tool? Is that the point of the dedicated server tool? I would to try to get a lobby ID on a dedicated server, the command doesn't work. Please ping me if you have any info on this

@ebon agate the dedicated servers are currently broken, but should be fixed by a patch this week. There is currently no lobby support for them yet, though.
