So in warframe, the 'fruits and roots' mushroom colony of the deepmines, i have reason to believe the fungus is a distant relative or even strain of the infestation. In particular, i'd like to say closest to the mutalist strain.
Think about it;

• 'hivemind' (correlation not causation)
• can create living creatures all by itself, ie Nokko and the Sprodlings (and what praytell are warframes made of?)
• can also OVERTAKE living creatures in the spore corpus and syzygy ospreys ||also nightcap to REVIVE him||
• as above, are capable of overtaking INORGANIC machines, ie the afformentioned ospreys, take control of the buzzer drones of the one objective (that's not nightcap doing that!)
• it isn't known how long they were present "corporate told me the fungi were some orokin disaster, escaped from a lab and all that, but the fruits and roots... they feel older than that"

just did my first maelstom mission in darktide, i have never felt like more of a complete badass for clutching victory from the jaws of both defeat and a horde of pox hounds
