Overall just feels like devs tried to make a mission as long as possible for the sake of it being long, mainly because of the spike traps that pop up on the pathways to the fights that have 0 mention or indication of their existence, until you’re 1 inch away from them

I do also think DL2s story is better.
I never heard anyone compliment DL1s story until DL2 came out and suddenly everyone is going "oh, no, the 1st games story was fantastic!"
