think of skyrim like oblivion but better graphics and better mechanics, ie you can absorb dragon souls and learn shouts that can do various things, better combat as well the guild quests aren't as good but its servicible, watch some folks play it before you grab it or use family share (beware it still has bethesda jank with random crashes sometimes that can be somewhat alleviated vie mods)

and because of the HUGE world and character creation you can create in-depth backstories for your characters, and the sheer amount of weapon choice allows for crazy replayability
