the boost gameplay 3d titles end up being 'just go fast' and they're really repetitive because of it, sonic at its best is like playing a rhythm game

there's only so much you can do at any given moment and only so much control you can exert because they didn't want players to have to contend with such a large list
its not just about that though, thats kind of minimal
because playing melee without that or without fox's shine still results in a game where the hitstun and knockback is tuned just so that the two players are constantly in a scuffle where the player on defense has a huge responsibility to escape back into neutral while at close range rather than being launched out of range
and thats sort of beautiful, you take turns destroying eachother and the only way to escape is basically trickery. Which is unlike the later games where you will just escape due to design, or Smash 64 where you won't escape - there are no tricks for the player on defense more or less by comparison

for all the effort fox and falco can put in to force wins out, puff can throw them up in the air and rest once and kill them, the game is extremely high octane and very based on player responsibility
because likewise puff dies at like 60
versus ultimate where you essentially each are allowed to feel like you have a 'turn fighting' because you will escape eachothers grasp over and over and be put back into the guessing game open-ended state
throws are also very good in melee whereas in 4 and ultimate they wanted to make sure they were only stage positioning tools, not combo starters

Debated on putting Medic and Invader in A but Invader’s clone dies too easily and Medic’s healing can be super slow at times
Wish I could put summoner higher but with them needing to have a minion at all times to deal good damage and how easy they die it just doesn’t matter
And the minion’s damage isn’t high enough for them to lifesteal like they could in the first
Challenger is a perfect example of why melee didn’t work in the first game, than alchemist is basically just a weaker medic, I never use their skills and their perks are all just whatever

Found myself relying a lot more on my health regen than my medic for healing

If you go into it try to analyze everything you panicking and get combo’d to death
Exactly how the devs designed the fight to be and honestly I think it’s pretty good

Yea the attacks on the boss fight are all about timing but it’s a lot easier to tkme them since the boss goes though the same 4 sets of attacks all of which have Lear sound or visual cues to them
It shows which way the attack is coming from and than gives you a sound cue like a slashing noise or boom noise before the attack comes your way
If you just time all your dodges and which way you dodge to those it’s hugely cuts down on the boss attacks

If you get grabbed by it you won’t even be able to get revived from it, it’s instant death
Nightweaver has some broken hitboxes so she is a lot more likely to get you with those grab attacks which she has 3 of them that are all instant kills

if you unholster your weapon too quick, you shoot yourself in the leg and die
so the importance of keeping your gun on safety when putting it away is high
but then, the objective is to find tapes.
in R2, some tapes make you try to kill yourself, so you have to quickly unload the gun as it slowly turns towards you
