i mean if you're playing the game and having fun it doesn't matter, but you don't wanna burn yourself out on the grind before the point where the grind actually matters

and like if you're really struggling and think a certain piece would help then go for it, just that generally speaking it's never significant enough to make a major difference outside of the base degemse stat going up

it's mostly just if something takes a long time to grind (e.g. requires a plate) in low rank it isn't gonna change enough to be worth

Idk much about rise but I'm pretty sure you need lower ranked armor to upgrade into better ranked armor. Unless that's only weapons. I never use armor.

weapons build from previous versions, or in some cases can be crafted later on in the tree, albeit at a more expensive cost, armors however do not do that

imo in my opinion when I played I did a mix of:
"oh this armor piece is better then mine defense wise, and I can craft it right now. time to get it"
and
"oh I really like the skills / decoration slots on this, even if it might be a bit weaker, ill keep upgrading it a bit till I get a better one"
since my first and main run was mostly DB (dual blades) I prioritized armors with stats in evasion and throttle/stamina, or ones that were stronger with decoration slots to accommodate those things (mostly two slots)

mixing and matching is also pretty good early game and mid game, unless you get like wayyy into sunbreak with all the other gears, mixing and matching is really strong

now here is a good tip for worlds, do NOT try to use any mid tier armors like how I did using ||odogaron|| armor fighting an elder dragon, unless you are confident you wont get hit too often and the bonuses of your current armor is good enough, then yeah, by all means go ahead. but IF you will get hit more often and risk dying alot, I would toss some variability in skills out for raw defense.

I fought a teostra with the same ||odogaron|| armor set and literally its big bomb skill would one shot me. my other brother who had way higher base armor stat could comfortably take that hit with ample health

im more experienced in sunbreak than iceborne however, and also havent touched that game in a lil while so your best off asking someone who knows more, but this is just my opinion from when I started worlds to the end of iceborne's base story.

also both of my experiences was doing both sunbreak and iceborne mostly solo

yeah, and as a DB player its kinda a lot less gratifying dodging things in rise. you could literally forgo evasion stat and have max dodge range and your literally set in terms of evasion. you dodge like eight miles each dodge. in worlds its either you DO time it, or you DONT time it, no running eight miles away in a single roll

default spirit lai slash is nerfed in rise untill you get a switch skill in sunbreak, no compensations made for players who dont have it. and motion values for helm breaker is reduced, and cooldown on wirebugs is really really long. just a warning if you do try that route

on the bright side, just like dodge range being literally almost way overtuned, now sheathe speed is genuinely very very useful for default spirit lai slash

a massive improvement over worlds in that department

you see. even IF you DID I-frame an explosion its hit box duration is LITERALLY longer than any dodges ive done with a MAXIIMUM evasion build. I get hit a HALF second AFTER the explosions wear out

forced electric procs are surprisingly strong even later not only for the cc
largest blast radius of all the glaives

very easy to build early on and scales well
synergizes REALLY well with volt (Which is one of the most used frames) and makes it the "upfront damage" brother of the glaive prime capable of one shotting most steel path enemies with a decent volt build
