I just didn't like how excessive it was. Doom works best when all it's systems are simple, but work together like a clockwork. Movement is precise, tight, guns have very definitely purpose. In eternal they went too far. Too much fucking flying, dashing, etc. It was a good shooter, but it ruined the doom feel. Also, levels were much better in 2016. But again, I like old dooms most. So I prefer 2016 because it was the perfect doom for modern age

I think there are two key factors to Hollow Knight's success:

1. It's simplicity
2. It's art style
   The game is pretty and charming, and the gameplay is simple enough that anyone can understand it. This isn't the case in a lot of other metroidvanias, even my own favorites like Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, where there are stat screens and equipment to keep track and spells and upgrades and armor etc etc.
