I love Morrowind the most out of the series, but I'll admit that Oblivion is probably the best middle ground between Skyrim and Morrowind. Didn't have dice roll combat that people disliked (I liked it), still had stats that you'd level.

Skyrim is good at making you feel powerful, but it falls off quick. A lot of the quests feel generic as well. There are some like the Brotherhood, Thieves, and Companions that are good, but a lot of them are just "I dropped my family sword in a crypt, please get it."

The dwemer ruins are an absolute ball ache, but that fits in with both the dwemer ruins of Morrowind and the Ayleid ruins of Oblivion being pains in the pp too
