Make sure you have the new returns variants on. Classic variants are only variants 1-3. There is no indication in a run to know which variant you are on aside from just knowing them. If you get the logbooks, you can learn which variant is which number.

if you specifically try to keep them alive, and have the means to do so, which might require your survivor to have a dodge or good mobility, since the drones get clipped by providences big hitboxes really easily, then they can turn the fight into a war of attrition, where you dont really have to actively fight him at all and the drones will handle it eventually. admittedly though, even with a dodge, keeping them alive in final phase might be tough.

Usually it's just something obvious. Verify the gamefiles, update drivers, etc etc. If none of that works there's something going on in the backend that might not be fixable from the games perspective. Could try backing up important stuff and reinstalling windows

Trick, no. Easier with experience, yes. Just plan your route through the map so you explore the most map possible before having to backtrack to increase your odds of finding it.

You can charge it up 95%, shoot his primary, and then when you need it just press his secondary and you have a fully charged shot.
You can also do it in multiple secondaries, i.e. charge it up 30%, then charge it up 30% (60% actual charge) then charge it up 40% for a 100% charged shot.
Do keep in mind that you do have the cooldown each time you charge your secondary.

first one is interchangable
not even close to your main source of damage, so pick either range or utility
quickscope always does 600% damage and has a shorter cooldown than steady aim, which only does its listed damage at full charge and with limited piercing
heavy recoil just isnt good when compared with backflip's invulnerability and insane movement

iirc it adds a third charge, not sure about any additional damage. Think scepter reduced alt cooldown by 30% per stack as it's stacking (which is the same as alien head but only for that one skill as opposed to all three)

For pilot, if the scepter only adds that one charge and no additional damage (which I believe is the case but not sure), then I think the second alien head would be much better than the first scepter if you have a choice, just because pilot alt, while good, is less important than his other skills imo.
