#The reason why grey hack is dead and how to fix it.

crazy, i found 3 people to hack this morning idk what you mean
replacing feelings with facts, playerbase is down 26% in the last 30 days. However OP's suggestion offers no real solution to the problems they highlight
technically the playerbase is higher than ever, can't really count the spike from Thor streaming the game.
so an improvement of about 20% from the average 50 players over the last 12 months
ignoring outliers like you mentioned
OFFTOPIC FIRST:
Thor stream raised users quite a bit at the time, but the overall is higher since then. We definitely saw an increase in consistent players by approx 5% (estimating)
So the "down 26% in 30 days" is as artificial as the streamer inflation.
The reality is the playerbase IS up. But, really, a moot point. But to be fair the original comment from Tuna Terps about the playerbase being completely removed means the final statement sits on "However OP's suggestion offers no real solution to the problems they highlight".
Since OP didn't elaborate, I am going to try my hand at a "solution" to the perceived "problem"
I also don't think OP meant the game is dead in an "active players" meaning.
It is my understanding, without even touching multiplayer, that there ARE ways to get hacked and it's just that the hatches are so battened down that no casual player will be able to break an experienced server. I do not see this as a problem so much as I see it as a reward for the dedication to the craft, an understanding of the game and an implementation of knowledge.
Imagine putting 200 hours into a game to get rofl stomped by a n00b. Whether this was by design or accident, I can't say. I'd wager a combination of luck and good basic game design and implementation of real world concepts.
Next target; the goals. Goals are whatever you make of them. Maybe set a goal to find one of these impenetrable fortresses and actually break in. Maybe you make a cool website or host some software for beginners.
As for competition, we do have CTF. But I'm not entirely sure competition is the sole reason for online mode. We have guilds that formed for jolly cooperation.
