Please be patient; your post should be graded <t:1770989434:R>. You can do other exercises in the meantime.

i will give some fb soon
okay, so a few things
- i would suggest having a few more layers of deco in general
it'll help with depth a lot and make things more interesting
take this for example
segmenting it and having two separate layers like this
immediately makes it a lot more interesting
while on that topic of segmenting, it's fairly boring to have every single segment be a rectangle
try having some more variety
this is the structure
here's an example of what i might do for structures
ik ik
im just going through things with the WIP screenshots bc it makes it easier to make points on the more fundamental things
like the structure shape
fixing those issues will help a ton after all
fair, go on
and even before you get to more intricate details it will make things look more interesting
this is a fairly specific example but you do this a few times throughout the structures: be careful with overlapping details that are blending / have low opacity
it makes things look quite messy, another example is here with the connector blocks
plus, these low opacity / blending details stand out less, and while youll want that for some details, doing it everywhere makes the details less effective
on that note: you have a similar issue with the details here as with the structures
a lot of these details are very repetitive; for instance, all squares
or all connectors
if you vary things even a little bit it'll look far more interesting
e.g., changing the size of some details
this is a good example i think, lemme break it down for you
ok so, the ground here
most of the stuff here is just "rectangles" right
but there are slight differences
the most obvious difference here is just the size
some are way larger, some are way smaller
but besides that, some of them aren't rectangles; theyre trapezoids, or pentagons, or other irregular shapes
makes it look more interesting and also natural, like it wouldnt surprise you to see that kind of variety
similar example here, with the blocks. i think this works well because i also used a lot of the same objs as you, so you can see a pretty direct example of some ways to use them
for instance
the part behind the m etal here
is just the same object, copy-pasted twice
but each time, i changed the scale and the opacity
varuety'
and when i do repeat details, it's only in a small segment, not in the entire thing
that, or i copy-paste a detail and change some small aspect of it
you can also see this sort of variety when looking at the reference, for instance these windows are basically the same but their colors are different
same goes with these windows
stuff like that makes it look a lot more interesting
@half void
so to summarize,
- make the structure shapes more varied
- try to stack layers of (not opaque/blending) deco to make things more interesting
- try to make the details more varied; if you're copy-pasting details, try to either make small changes to them between copying (e.g., size, rotation, skew), or limit how much you copy-paste them without changing anything
alright, thank you so much for the help, later I'll try to revamp my original submission in accordance with your advice

At long last I have completed the first (and hopefully last) revision of this deco exercise, I'll still welcome any feedback possible
dive in, don't hesitate
the way the dark part overlaps with the brighter section is a biit awkward, id personally add an outline so it doesnt look as odd
same goes for these places
id lowkey consider darkening the BG and including some neon glow on this, that way it'll stand out + look pretty cool
(neon glow is just the hue shifting described in this guide)
and you could lowkey do the same with the non-blending glow here
in fact, if you make that red glow blending + neon, add a white / yellow outline at the base, and add a deep red blending overlay on top, it could look really damn cool
(also just realized the ugly layering issue here, fixed it)
and thats about it for what id personally change
oh i didnt even see that lol
also slight nitpick: id personally add corner glow here!
like, the 45 degree corner glow would fit pretty well
make it feel like its not as harsh of a cutoff
gonna put this on pending again, hopefully the bot wont close it; if it does just make a new post lol

alright, thanks so much for the feedback again, I'll get to work tomorrow
sounds good, and no prob
I've completed the second revision of my structure. I've added some more details and tried making changes in accordance with your advice. First off I have to state I completely do not understand how to hue shift in order to achieve a neon glow, I've been looking on the internet and experimenting for like half an hour but this is my best attempt at replicating that. Also I added corner glows to cutoffs at spikes, but decided to keep them as they are in other places. I like to think the dark parts just block out the light (though I am fully aware that's not how light works at all). Again, feedback would be appreciated
for hue shifting i have it in a few videos, lemme pull them up
How do you make Geometry Dash levels look good? Bad colors can make decoration look horrible, but choosing good colors doesn’t have to be impossible. While there’s hundreds of niche things you can learn about color theory, most skilled decorators only use a few crucial principles to improve their colors. Furthermore, GD 2.2 has lots of uniqu...
How many hidden Geometry Dash features do you know? I'll show you 33 of the secret GD build hacks I know and use, which should help you a fair bit. Even if you don't use these, they're still more helpful than that Waboo video - for one, I actually create lol.

besides that, id brighten the light grays in these areas
so they stand out more

alright thanks, will check those out
np!
think I get it, would something like this cut it?
yuppp
🎯
love it
night and day difference
excellent, love to hear that
could probs include some gradients on these parts too once you get the hang of it
I'll try playing around with it now, this is too fun
Alright, this is what I ended up with after a bit of tinkering around. I'm incredibly happy with how the glow looks, thank you so much for letting me know about hue shifting. Then again, I might have overdone it a little, so lmk if that's the case
Also like, even though there's definitely plenty of room for improvement, I'm really impressed, and even proud of myself. If someone told me a week ago I'd make something like that I wouldn't believe them
I mean, this was my peak just yesterday. Crazy
I'm eagerly awaiting even more feedback
