Parent is like what everything you do to that group will be centered around
I can see here when you are using target move its choosing a random object to move to on the y
If you placed a group parent it would only move towards that object that has the parent

For anything that has to do with movement, rotation or scaling, group parent will be considered the center of all the objects with that group
