#how to manually break spawn loops on mobile?
89 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
Just put a lot of objects on screen at Once?
no can do, sadly, im thinking the player would have to manually break the spawn triggers using bugs / mechanics instead of just lagging intensely on mobile!
You can either toggle a spawn trigger off or toggle whatever theyre activating off
ok let me rephrase the question
i want to have the Player be the one to break the spawn loops, for example, if you make a spawn loop to move a wall down, normally the level is impossible, but if you're on PC, you can click on the top bar(? i forgot what its called) of the GD app and it manually lags the game, thus breaking the spawn loop without any other triggers (stop trigger, toggle trigger, etc)
im wondering if theres any methods of manually lagging your GD app on mobile, or whether this is a PC only bug. because i want to use this as a mechanic in a level, but at the same time i'm also unsure if thats possible because i dont want to put the mechanic at the end of a genuine level incase its impossible on mobile

This is discussed in the Loops guide
In the future please do read over the guides first since they’ll often answer the questions youre asking
? its a bit more niche than whats covered there.
You don’t need to use an inconsistent method like lag to break them
Because that’s going to depend on the player’s device
And trying to intentionally create lag can have unintended consequences
i wouldnt say its inconsistent, since i've found a consistent way to break them on PC
its just whether its possible on mobile
People with stronger devices will be able to do it much more consistently
With far less lag
In that case your question isnt “how do I break a spawn loop”, but “how do I lag people’s phones” right?
it wont be super intense lag. think of it like the player intentionally causing a small lagspike on an app.
the player should be able to manually stop the trigger by giving themselves a small lagspike by holding the top bar of the app.
i wouldnt have a toggle trigger that spontaneously makes 50 trillion objects appear to break it, the player would have to find out how to disable them!
Hey .alterna., you just got to level 7!
Either way the question is different from the one which you put into the title of the post
I think you should send your current level to someone you know plays with a mobile device and use that to test it
i tried wording it the best i can
its a little more complex than that, its like... IDK if mobile players would neccesarily be able to discover a bug spontaneously that ive been trying to find, itd require a bit more experimenting to find out what makes the spawn loop break
So it’s not “does my method of breaking spawn loops by intentionally lagging the player work on mobile”, since you cant just get someone to playtest your gimmick on mobile?
Have you gotten someone to playtest your level using a mobile device yet?
If not, you need to do that first before speculating further
i can try? i dunno if mobile players would spontaneously find a bug that im searching for
As I said — at least verify that the method you currently found on PC does not work on mobile before asking
Do your due diligence, yk?
its just a case of finding a setup which does allow it to work on mobile
idk what this means 😭
Do your own research before asking around
Oh and by the way for this. Instead of dragging the windows bar (which wont even work on fullscreen!) have you tried using a Touch trigger to make the loop break?
->
-> loop breaks
i think having a "meta" or niche strategy in a level would be nice. like that one jamattack level (i forgot the name 😭 i dont keep up with levels) where you have to play with your audio off!
So you strictly want it to just be unique?
a little, yeah!
Well
This bug is being patched out in 2.2 from what I know
And upon watching the video, it also doesnt work for people who play on fullscreen or on mobile considering theres no way to drag windows around in either of those cases
If you want to be unique I would suggest finding some other means honestly
im thinking of just maybe commissioning someone to look into it, or atleast helping me brainstorm unique ideas that havent really been seen before
Id say consider checking out SCAMPER or the Ramsey method for making ideas: #1083453897848393799 message
Btw
If youre trying to be unique I would suggest taking existing, known mechanics and using them in new ways
Because the more niche you are the higher the chance that the bugs get patched out, are unintuitive to use, or are just plain annoying for everyone
Np
Its worth it though if your goal is to make stuff that’s unique or just somewhat new
Idk
When it comes to uniqueness I try to use commonly known mechanics in new ways
As opposed to limiting my entire search to what mechanics have nobody used
maybe, maybe!
Ok
You can just... un-fullscreen your window...
Um actually 🤓 (brb)

I was just trying to disprove u
Hey iburgerbrain, you just got to level 2!
When did I get to lvl 1 tf
forcing players to do this is like forcing them to play on a lower refresh rate. playing on fullscreen has a positive effect on input delay. This means that having people go out of fullscreen has a negative effect on their performance.
You can use touch triggered or spawn triggered stop triggers to stop a spawn loop
Eh
any user can manually break spawn loops if they suddenly drop frames (assuming that a spawn loop has a delay), or you can use a stop trigger on any spawn trigger in the loop to stop it.
I do not recommend having toggle off to stop because the spawn loop will still activate until its iteration is done if that makes sense
using a stop trigger instead will deactivate the loop immediately
ive been doing it wrong this whole time 💀
question is, why would you want to go for this route. Intentionally making your level unoptimized for a gimmick seems impractical. Instead have either touch trig (dual mode) or collision trig, both triggers with respect to each player to activate a stop trigger.
nvm I misunderstood
Im not entirely sure whether window pausing would break spawn loops. Remember that spawn loops and spawn triggers rely on the in-game time, whereas collision looping and frame looping relies on in-game frames. If this bug drops any frames at all, I think perhaps its more consistent to do frame looping to detect an absurd amount of lag instead of spawn loops, but thats just my guess.

You've been doing it right if you want to avoid stop id swap
That's about it
Otherwise stop triggers are better in every way
