Many things can but one thing in particular is having one moment in the story were all of the main characters are losing it and going “oh shit” due to something big that’s happening
Bonus points if said thing involves an important character, whether it be getting kidnapped or them being on death’s door
Downside is that this can only really happen near the end of a story tho
