In South Africa everyone is overly friendly. Like on the streets you'll wave to strangers or say hi or morning. You invite your neighbors and coworkers that you barely know to braai with you on Saturdays or braai day

In Australia, we do Welcome to Country and Acknowledgement to Country. It’s for native land, but it’s not really a custom as such
Literally same in my country as well
Especially next to schools
Ofc Astra posted the qotd while I am at school... THE 20 MINUTES I WAS AT SCHOOL
HIIIII
In my country, we usually call strangers (older than our age) uncle for men and aunty for women even though that we are not related at all lol... we got used to call strangers like that as a respect for them
We wear white to a funeral
Us too
We also address them as brother and sister
As a sign of respect
I don't do local customs I don't even think there are any where I'm at
In australia, its not really customs or anything but pretty much EVERYONE swears so much
And the c word
Very common
Like
VERY common
Oh and this doesnt go for everywhere and everyone in australia but older people call you “darl (like darling)”, “love”, yknow basically acting like youre their grandchildren LOL
My pop does this a lot
twins
ouh damn, from Malaysia? or other countries
I was bouta say swearing cause everyone swears where I'm from also Australia
it is
Bring food if your going to a park or beach the birds will come after you
Gas stations often make and serve home made breakfasts and lunch. 🙂 it's a southern thing. I was boggled when I first moved here and discovered that, but I love it. I got hash browns yesterday actually at the gas station.
There's a saying where you need to know how to play euchre where I live
a little late here: but my family does a white elephant every year. We also don't celebrate sweet 16s, we just give the 16 year old a pat on the back and say, "good luck mate" and run
We tend to say cho in my culture
And a lot of people think it's a bad word (especially teachers 😂)
When really it's an equivalent to basically 'bro', or 'dude'
This, and the harsher the curse word = the stronger your friendship is
Gosh ikr . Like my class mates be cussing the c word 24/7
Um idk man we really like cheese? It’s like a crime to dislike cheese. That’s all I can think of we’re just special I don’t think have any local customs the cheese is for like the whole state not even just where I live
I want to live somewhere where you have to like cheese :3
garangao
Rodeos, they are VERY common where im at. You could go within a 5 town radius of my home and find like 8 istg. Idk if this fully counts but thats like the only thing I can think of so-
Exactly omg
we can smell rain, not even, we just sense it
They got good taste, thats like the best word
Can use it in any situation
SO many slang terms for things here, they change a lot too and its really hard to keep up with what people are saying and what they mean
I live in Alaska so it’s a myriad of things.
Same! I’ve got the vocab of a sailor
Oh! Another custom in Australia is the famous fairy bread. You must ALWAYS supply fairy bread to keep the children and adults happy
Why ketchup isn’t put on hot dogs. And I still do it, I like it
People don't understand a lot of things
But instead of trying to understand them
They just hate
Idk when I was a kid we would all eat snow
