COOKING SHOUKD BE THOUGHT
Taxes need to be taught
Black history (was not taught in my district)
It is taught at some schools as an elective (cooking)
Also garnet for a reason
happy pride month 🌈
I think money handling should be taught for those spoiled little rats
There is a lot for cooking classes like food prep and nutrition (haven't took them so idk what they teach but a friend took food prep and made food)
Cooking, Social Awareness

I love you
Guys you gotta think about the fact some of these are subjects in alternative schools, i went to cooking school
lol
There should be a subject about becoming a hero
I teach my kiddos money management, banking, and even just college life
Become a fire fighter
Taxes, Economy, Manners (how to behave and talk to people including not to be rude), and Money (like bills. Getting paid and spending)
Exactly!
No.
i agree
i know! just saying hehe
All Gucci!
HAPPY PRIDE MONTH SILLY PEOPLE
yayyyyyy
ASL
Adult Life.
Tax management

That’s kinda what my classroom is,
more teachers need to teach it honestly
I personally think money management and how to do taxes should be taught in like high school and not at a specialty school cuz it should be common knowledge not a sought out thing
happy pride 🏳️🌈
That's my favorite answer, my mom was an interpreter for Obama and Hilary Clinton once
I adore my students, I like to make sure they know what they need
Oh my god be my teacher (im out of school)
so true
I mean, I teach college level lol
Oh my god be my teacher
What subject?
College Life Skills (Special Education)
What's considered rude and bad words cuz they should teach that
I took culinary in high school and didnt take like math or english classes so i could only get into a cullinary like community collage at this point
So like a manners class
That's a nice thing
Yeah
I adore my kiddos.
They’re the same age range as my son too,
Proper sex ed

gambling
Its just, so upsetting that its not by default taught yk?
We had to test well to get into the school tho so its not that they just didnt teach it, it was more like a, do well and pass regular testing on basic subjects and you get to stay at special school
My mom teaches for behavior students so she doesn't have good days a lot but a lot of her students really like her
Fr 😭 it would be sooooo good
I adore my kiddos
Oh yk what else should be a class
They love to play video games with my son. Lol
Sign language
nothing, just teach the new generation basic reading, writing, and manners cause none of that exists these days
Like when they make you pick a language in high school
Sign language wasnt an option
It needed to be
my school teachers cooking and nutrition, textiles and woodwork, adult life skills (money management etc) and in DEPTH sex ed so i have nothing to complain about
I would love to learn sign language
same
schools in my area have started teaching this as a subject to primary school kids (4-11 yos)
I went to a career institute instead of a high school so yeah mine did too, they had like, education classes, cullinary, architecture, computer science, it just didnt have like math or english or anything
i go to a state school so idk
they should have classes where they teach them to do things like fixing stuff like fences, how to do different types of hair, nails ect. in highschool.
Most of my students are looking to major in creative outputs, like Graphics & Culinary
It cost like hundreds to get the uniform tho i feel bad for my mom
They had cosmetology and wood working
OH SAME, any uniforms here cost a fortune its terrible
Yeahhhh
high schools around my area doesn't provide those classes
One of my kiddos is a history major, and is obsessed with the Titanic
I dont…….. remember anything about cooking classes atm, if i tried to make mac and cheese i would burn the water
Catch me on a good day
Trust
Well again i went to a career institute and not a high school
i did this w pasta in year 7💔
i jst relized that its only may 31st for me
I had to test to get into it anda had to do regular testing to stay in the school
I occasionally teach my kiddos some cooking stuff
No joke how to do taxes, I don't need to know how to do Excel I need to know how to do those so I can do it right and not pay someone like 60-145 bucks to do it if they won't just freaking automate it so it's not a problem anymore
the college im gonna go to next year has extra classes you can take that teach you about life skills when you first move out so thats pretty cool
do they kick u out if u fail the ones during school?
If you dont do well in testing they dont renew you for another year
So once the year is over you couldnt come back for the next grade
A cool subject for school: Videogames.
so like holding you back a year?
My english class held a super smash bros tournament and i won
Nah they pass you for the year you just have to go back to regular high school for the next year
my school has an esports team💔
ohh that sucks
life skills
Though in my class i did have someone who passed the testing but had so many absences that he came back but he was held back and put in first year classes
hyow to get a job (besides an office job where u jst take orders and sit at a desk sigh) and like how to auditio for a job nd stuff
this is crazy to me, if u have a absences here they dont rlly care you will js have a bad number on ur CV and thats it. and if u fail exams or tests u dont get held back or anything unless its GCSE which u need to pass atleast maths and english
Cooking
Yesss
Stuff that actually needs to be taught instead of useless stuff😭
I hear a lot of people talking about and I agree as it makes sense.
ITS PRIDEEE MONTH!!
Actual practical life skills
it doesn't really matter unless the way that schools are structured is completely redone. right now society tells kids to sit down, shut the hell up, and repeat what they're told, like a machine. that's what's drilled into everyone's heads until we graduate (whether that's high school or uni). it doesn't make any sense, it doesn't make us complex thinkers, it just makes us machines that can be occupied by meaninglessness until retirement. in reality, no one actually needs things like calc or trig (I'm not saying we shouldn't learn math at all, but its taken to the extreme, just so countries have bragging rights about how fancy the paper that they shove in front of the kids face is. its impractical and worthless. worse than worthless, because it all teaches people to associate learning with dislike and even hatred)
Chinese history
basically, the education system has completely forgotten about actually being practical. instead, its really a tool to train our mindsets from the very beginning, to obey and blend in with everyone else. i'm not anti-education AT ALL. my dad was a math major, and is a software engineer. education is incredible. when it's done right.
I feel like as a power that's rising quite quickly we should learn how it came to be
Leading to better understanding rather than "eoughhhoihb oh nooo communists!!"
and?
You're not wrong
You're really not wrong
Not even in the slightest
Most schools do suffer from this
Even my Freshman history teacher said this
just saying
Honestly this is why I think you're better off studying on your own atp
You have to be dedicated though
To the things you want to learn
Socializing
yeah, no kidding
Imo History and Math are the worst offenders
Math you're taught too much and History you're not taught enough
history you're taught the wrong things
where i live, at least, history is actually a very annoying subject with a lot of assignments and work. its not an easy pass for many people. but everyone's taught the wrong things, minute details that NO ONE NEEDS TO KNOW
Yeah
Mythology. History doesn't touch much on it and it helps students learn more about what their people believed in.
I’ll give you a real answer Money Management
It wasn't until 6th grade where my teacher taught some basic stuff about China
And then again when probably my favorite main subject teacher got me interested in history again
like, can we please focus on other types of history? why are we only allowed to learn about details from the world wars and the establishment of the government. WHY. and only national history? seriously? i live in Canada. WHAT HISTORY IS THERE?!!!!!
With details I didn't even know that are so important
So you guys also suffer from that
religious philosophy
I wish more history teachers would go through Asian, Middle Eastern, and African history
Honestly European history too
But with rising powers like China and India
You'd think we should know their history right??
😭
details like, they make us memorize dates and people and random details. in what world does that matter. and yet, they wouldnt even walk thru what was happening from other countries perspectives. Canada made very little contribution to the world wars when compared to the rest of the world. but they wouldnt discuss any other players. just what canada was doing. like, i was supposed to learn about the world wars, most of the course revolved around that, HOW COME IDK MOST OF THE MAJOR TURNING POINTS BC CANADA WASNT THERE
yes!
We also should learn way more about the Soviets and Russia
Because they were so important to the past 100 years
And people just know them for their Communism 😭
all over the world has history to tell, much of which can be relevant today. but the educational systems just wants to focus on their own nation
Yeah
This is why we don't know anything about other world values
Like
Most people in my school don't know what ISLAM IS
How to face adult challenges (paying taxes, bankruptcy, debt etc)
EXACTLY
Also the fact that most people don't know that humans came from Africa is astonishing too 🥀
I mean
I mostly think it's because of the intense racism the US has experienced
And schools are afraid that racist parents will get pissed at them for teaching their children that humanity comes from Africa
thats insane, honestly
Yup
sign language
And also
Most of the time we don't even learn about Europe
Which is wild
my school teaches about both of those things
The only thing worse than not learning about upcoming powers
Is not learning about the people that colonized us
🥀
What grades
How to survive 😭
damn😭
8th for me was just American history again too
My freshman teacher did talk a bit about Europe though which made me quite happy
Mainly bubonic plague and stuff
And the many ways you could die in the medieval ages lol ☠️
Hopefully my next 3 years of Highschool will tell me all the information I was never told in Elementary /Middle school that I had to learn on my own
I ain't even gonna lie 80% of my history knowledge came from this dude
I wanna say bring back home ec and get more cooking classes
Maybe Sign Language? Its a very interesting subject!
I've already learned the alphabet ! 🔥
Ooo yeah that's a good one
Thx!
economics, sign language, hygiene💔
wait it’s not june
i thinmk either taxes, serious disorders or mental health
ur in the past...
kuzan
Self defense
More history, and it appalls me that people are saying children should not be taught history. Absolutely disgraceful.
Adulting 101, or self defense, get rid of languages, they’re kinda useless and they take up a precious elective spot
How is learning another language useless exactly?
Fun fact: in the uk it is required you know at least 1 additional language to go to uni
self defense
In Texas you have to have some to even graduate high school.
now im gonna go pester my friend for a pfp
lol have fun ig
Gonna be shoko cus she the best ❤️ (the one from a silent voice)
Thanks for the clarification, I thought of JJK lol
Wild
Languages are probably top 5 most important things to learn
It’s useless in America cause they don’t know how to do it right, and it prevents students from taking the class they actually want, and my language classes haven’t taught me anything other than how to greet someone, ask for food, and count to 100
Np
that's not true, you don't need to know another language to attend - this is vague at best, are there specific courses/unis you're referring to here?
In Japan, all you'll need is thank you and i'm sorry honestly
It would be if they actually taught the language instead of wasting an hour and a half of my time listening to one kid get yelled at
And a quick Google search does the trick for this
Even then you'll need to practice how to say it
And I can’t take AP Seminar next year because of this bs class
How to handle taxes
This might just be a problem on your school's end
Self defense and emergency first aid, CPR etc
I’ve had this problem at multiple schools, and adults I know say that they don’t remember anything from language classes
Idk I've been having a good time with my Spanish class
Even though I'm more interested in Cyrillic languages
ANIME LOL
Actually, if you do some research, studies say that bi/multilingual people show better problem-solving skills, better multitasking, enhanced creativity, improved memory, better decision-making, delayed cognitive decline, deeper cultural understanding, and increased self-confidence. Not to mention the enhanced experience of traveling and the friendships and connections that can be gained with no language barrier. Even more than that are the wider career opportunities and the competitive edge over those who are monolingual.
My fingers hurt now-
My Grammarly is having to work overtime for my dyslexic ass TvT
TAXES
They aren't that scary. You just need to know what boxes to fill in
@open widget how dare you do the qotd when im away
some schools have that
If only the classes for it in school actually work
I'm glad the qotd wasn't what we think shouldn't be taught in schools... cause I know my opinion would be unpopular 0-0
My thoughts are at least make language classes optional
That depends on the student (and sometimes the teacher, but it is almost always the student)
You have a point, but if I get one more worksheet on the verb ser while my teacher sits at the front of the class playing games on the computer, I’m going to flip
Oh, I thought of another thing that needs to be taught in schools. Schools need to teach the basics of opposing religions, and REALLY drill in the fact that it is ok to disagree with someone; that just because they don't agree with you, doesn't mean they hate you
I mean that's fair. I didn't enjoy learning Spanish when I was in school, but being in Texas- it has been a massive help in communicating with those who don't speak English.
It is also just a SUPER SUPER cool feeling when you listen to a passing conversation and understand what they are saying.
I know Spanish (I’m Hispanic and my grandparents don’t speak English) so I should be fine in Florida
That's great that you speak Spanish! That'll help you when it comes to getting jobs.
My Spanish kinda sucks tho cause I’m tongue tied 😭😭😭
That's ok. It happens. I suggest Duolingo. That's what I am using to learn Japanese and brush up on my Spanish.
Nope, they’re ai first now, never touching that app again
Because it is AI?
They’re replacing their employees with ai
Ah I see. I understand where you're coming from. It's frustrating thinking about how AI is taking people's jobs, but that's just the world we live in now unfortunately.
Sadly :(
Although- I just thought of this- they might HAVE to be using AI to keep things running. I mean think about how many people use Duolingo. I know it's in the several millions by now.
Yea as help, not to replace previous employees
Any form of martial art
Fair. But I understand why, just from a business standpoint. It's cheaper and much more cost-effective.
a class abt awareness (lgbtq, mental health, etc) where u do projects n spread them around the school!
Home ec type things (like taxes, cooking etc)
i have this at my school!
oh!
Mine just had cooking but not a general home ec class
Cooking!! ꉂꉂ(ᵔᗜᵔ◍)
Yes, and you are allowed to have yours too. But if you are going to be childish, then I know conversing with you is a waste of my time.
I do not debate with hateful, childish people.
im gonna be controversial about this but sex ed should be taught a lot more than it is. ive noticed how many uneducated people im around all the time
says the one hating
ur being homophobic 😭
Whomst
and i didn't want to debate in the first place
ur so right.. its just awareness to a commonly discriminated group and it isnt meant to push the idea onto anyone
How exactly am I hating, might I ask? Also, the word "phobic" means fear, and I do not fear members of the lgbt community. I have said nothing hateful.
TY
😭😭😭😭
my work here is done
im literally on break at work rn eating my dinner i do not want to argue with a 14 yr old 🙏
Just because I have a differing opinion does not mean I am being hateful. Tolerance should indeed be taught in schools, but sexual preferance does not belong among children. Also I am not 14.
some kids have gay parents btw... its helpful to learn
u act younger than 14 i was being nice
THIS!!
i wish i learned about sexual preferences earlier so i wasn't taken advantage of at a young age, so i firmly believe it does belong in schools
this exactly
Yes, I am aware of that, and that's fine. As I said, tolerance should 100% be taught in schools, but lgbt subjects, especially in elementary schools, should not be focused upon.

okay.....
i don't agree
ur being disrespectful
💀
we werent implying it should be focused on but it should still be taught.
@versed karma
ive literally been trans since i was like 13
also did i not say like 20 times i don't wanna argue or debate w u
please respect that
How am I being disrespectful exactly? Have I called you names? Have I insulted you? Have I been aggressive or hateful? If so, please, do show me where.
No one said elementary school. Also this topic shouldn't continue!! You're entitled to your own opinion but not to the point of arguing
u can be disrespectful without it being direct and obvious
Again, just because I don't agree with you, it DOES NOT MEAN I hate you or any other member of the lgbt community. A lot of my friends are members themselves, yet I never show hate to them because that hate is pointless. However, you show me hate when I have done nothing other than use my right of free speech. I don't want to be hateful to anyone, including you.
musical theatre
AOTD (May 31st, 2025)
What is it like though
Does it teach you how to make anime?
Because that would make more sense
taxes
Don't know
I just remember the clip with them watching aot in class
Y'know
That's quite cool though
Yes it is
I think sign language should be something taught at school.
sex ed
agreed
agreed some what i say 7th and up
oh where i live theres like external people who teach us sex ed
actual life skills/economics and how to survive in the 'real world' and taxes and stuff
Agreed
when i was in high school there was also sex ed but unfortunately not all schools have that right now
Maybe not middle school ☠️
Highschool would be good though
