Wierd fandom
Didn't think much of it at first if I'm being honest
I'll start this one off, I thought Bakugo and Shoto were the main antagonists
I thought Allmiggt was changed to a drug addict when he first transformed lol and I almost left the show within the pilot
I thought the fandom was wierd
mk not saying that against sorry 😁
idk what I thought lol
i havent started watching i aint watching no Mid hero acadamia when bleach exsist
Fr
I also thought All Might's skinny form was an whole different character and was an antagonist
it was a while ago 😞
i hostestly didnt like it at first but i watched through the seasson to see and now im on s6
I stayed away from the anime due to the fandom but I eventually got in because of bakugo||’s death||
sameee
i got into the fandom because of denki bc i thought he was pretty -- he's still pretty.
Terrible way to think
I thought Bakugo was a villain before watching
First episode then after that, i stopped it and a year later, i watched the 2nd one and now i'm interested in it.
I kinda went into it completely blind
I went into it completely blind and thought it was stupid the first episode LOL
Honestly i hated it watching the first episode then swore to never watch it again after 1 year or so gave it another chance
I thought that it might be weird, but really catchy xd
From the fanbase of course I assumed that I shouldn't touch MHA but the fanbase obviously doesn't do it justice because it's pretty cool
Before I watch it, I thought it was a bit cliché the fact that everyone had "superpowers". Juste like in every fantasy book or movies, anything.
interesting characters and power system
nah i just dont wanna watch it cuz the freaky fandom, anime dosent look bad in any way tho
nope, saw hawks and loved the show already.
Weird fandom and that it was your average boring shoen slop
One of my friends introduced me to MHA- first episode and I was addicted.
deku is cutie patootie (still agree with that statement, although now hes also a badass at the same time)
I thought it was just some weird cartoon (yes, I thought it was a cartoon 💀 ) and I honestly just thought it would be weird. Not to mentioned I did think that it was just meant for older people due that all I ever caught was fanart and weird stuff from it. Same with other animess tbh
i thought it was just going to be specifically just about bakugo and deku
SAME
Just ignore the Fandom, if you can do that which really isn't hard, it's a pretty good anime
and i thought it would be mid cus my friend said it was bad but i loved it 🔥🔥🔥
only up to the 2/3rd ep of s4, but yes, rlly good anime
still probably my fav anime (although i dont watch that much anime)
I thought bakutoe was a toe
HAH
Went in wondering what God level character development did Bakugo go through that he said what he said to Izuku in episode 1 and still remain the most popular character in the fandom
Cause I've seen fictional teenagers get crucified for less
i migth watch it, prob after i am done with watching TYBW and when i 100% cyberpunk
i always wanted to get into it but didn't wanna be seen as weird or cringe, then i just stopped caring
I thought the anime and manga would be shorter when I first got into it
it was pretty cool
Eh. I'll admit from there some of it is boring but in s6 you get see alot of bakugo's char development and its just pretty good in general
i thought it was weird and hated bakugo💀
I listened to the dub first so I didn't like dekus va at first, I got used to it and have now watched it in both dub and sub so Im good now, also hated bakugou, like him more now
Glad to be wrong though I thought it'd last for like three seasons and have like 20-23 volumes
Confusion since I first discovered the series whilst I was looking for reference images for the Deku Scrub Link from majora’s mask
Have you read the manga for bleach?
i just thought the fandom was weird and it wasn’t all that. then i watched and understood and forgot about my preconceived notions
To be honest, I don't really remember. I started it years ago so all I can remember was thinking todoroki was going to be edgy the whole show
I thought it was pretty cool since I saw my brother first watching it and he told me all about it
I was not even a teenager when i first watched mha, i searched 'anime' on Google and it was one of the first that showed up so i watched it! I remember thinking it was so cool and i was totally obsessed
nah I didn't even know it existed, just randomly found it on the anime website and thought I'd watch it
I discovered MHA through the TikToks but I knew it was some weird fandom stuff so I didn't care, I just thought the idea of quirks was so cool. I watched MHA and I absolutely loved it! Everyone seemed so cool
Tbh if nobody said shit about MHA, then it would be more popular. But these days people rather stick with the hate comments. They don't even give the anime a chance!! They just follow other people's opinions and mention the horrible part of the fandom.
i read the manga before watching the anime. before reading the manga i know nothing about the characters/story except for deku, uraraka, todoroki and maybe bakugo since i saw some fanarts of them before. i thought deku and izuku midoriya were different people lmao, and uraraka's name is hard to spell
When they can watch the anime without being part of the fandom. It's that easy and simple.. Spreading hate without watching it first is stupid
I thought at first deku had his own quirk till I actually started watching it 😭 like I remember I watched gacha videos about it before watching so that wasn't very smart....but it was also a while ago so but yeah I thought deku had his own quirk and then borrowed all mights or smth so there's that
Before I ever watched it I thought Mitsuki and Inko were dating. Not realizing Mitsuki and Inko have husbands. I regret and hate myself for ever thinking it
Nuh uh
thought it was a fun anime (I still think this), the more I watched it the more I saw it as motivational during my teen years
i saw a poster in my brothers room-
i thought aizawa was the villain 💀
and i saw todoroki and i was like "oooo hes the cutest on the poster!"
i have but i still wanna watch it cuz bleach is peak
at first i absolutely hated mha and anime cuz i heard bad things about it, but then my brother told me to watch it so i did, and ended up loving it and anime
"ooh cool"
But didn't think I'd get so obsessed with mha
real
yokoso
I thought at first that Mt Lady was Bakugo because the way my friend described Bakugo made it seem like him and Mt Lady was the same person
But the anime felt werid to me at first
Its OK now because it's has significantly gotten better over the years
Honestly, I thought it was like every other stupid action anime, with all the screaming and monologuing and overdramatic garbage at every turn, topped with endless talking and oversexualization of every female character in sight. It still is all of those things, but the story itself, all the details in the world building and quirks and characters, makes up for all that I hate about it enough to mostly enjoy watching it.
lowk thought its the cringiest anime ever before i gave it a chance and didnt really like the first episode (found it weird) but gave it another chance and binged the entire show in 2 months
(unemployment final boss)
I thought the exact same thing everyone else thought about it in 2020 until i watched it
O thought all 1A were actually js characters from other classes that were friends w the main character and that ochako iida bakubro and shoto were the only in the same class as deku
Its been about 7 years since i first watched it and i lowkey dont remember anything that i thought specifically about the characters, i watched the show because it won an award so i expected it to be the best show in human history so i guess that was my misconception lol
Weird fandom
When I first saw it, I didn't think I'd like it. I hated Bakuguo and how he treated Deku :[
Oh and Also Mineta, I thought he was really creepy. Also some of the fandom scared me so I hesitated a lot lol. I Also mistook Endeavor for a villain
I only knew who Bakugo was and I didn't like him
I always thought that Bakugo would always stay like an arrogant jerk, until a few seasons later, he would actually slowly change for the better, and finally apologise to Izuku for everything he’s done to him in the past.
i had never heard of mha until my brother told me, he also told me to stay FAR away from the fandom.... with the stuff ive seen i understand why he told me that
i literally cried when that happened-
Before I started watching I didn’t like it bc the fandom is ehm yea… weird… so I kinda judged it but I gave it a try anyway and I love it!
Honestly, respect to your brother for understanding how CRINGEY the MHA fandom truly is.
I genuinely feel bad for the minority of the MHA fandom that genuinely want to enjoy the show as normal.
lol, agreed. He told me that MHA is a good anime, but the fandom is AWFUL. He also told me if i start simping for bakugo he'll disown me 😂
Can’t blame him… 🤣😅
i thought dekus mom was pregnant
Tbh i can't remember jack of that time period. Can't have been a terrible impression if I picked it up though
I thought it was a cartoon tbh.
I was first introduced to Toga when I was listening to The Red Means I LOVe You and I thought she was like the main character or something idk. Also, I was so confused when I saw All Might in it for the first time, I actually thought he was just like a comic book character or an action figure lmao
started s1e1 in like 2017 and dropped it because i hated dekus voice, picked it back up a few years later after i saw a clip of mineta climbing the wall and thought thats a cool superpower
I honestly loved it from the second I started watching I also went in completely blind and was like 11 when I started watching it 😭
I was really only familiar with Asui's design and that she was tied to the series (didn't know her name, though); I also didn't think too much of the show aside from just being another anime.
I thought the character designs and the concept of the show (a world of superpowers) were cool.
The fandom seemed to act weird but I got used to it
Okay not gonna lie when it came out I thought it was good but I hated so many characters so I stopped watching it also because of the community was just going nuts but once it died down and I sat down to watch it I thought half the characters I hated were really good so now I’m all caught up and I love it now
Froppy became my favorite very quickly because frogs are my favorite animal
i thought deku's mom was his grandma after she ate a lot
I thought Deku was an interesting MC
But now I guess he's unique but in a negative way
cool as in interesting and smth i never wouldve thought of myself
He's the first shonen MC I've seen that one could consider as genuinely pathetic
When I first thought of my hero was like I thought of any anime before fully watching it cringe then I watch the first episode, and then the first one became season five
Can I ask why? I've only watched the show a couple of times so it's possible that I've missed or misunderstood something, so I'm genuinely curious
dude i started watching it when i was like eight because i thought todoroki was hot 💀
Naruto - Shunned by village, wants to be a hokage, people tried to be in his way, he kept going for it no matter what. He had to earn Kurama's trust and respect to gain access and full control over his power
Luffy - Pirate King. Started out weak with a seemingly useless fruit. Trained to make that fruit really good. Despite people trying to stop him, he kept moving forward
Deku - Wants to be a hero, gets punched really hard once in a playground, immediately starts only doing the bare minimum(writing notes) instead of literally anything. Does not even train until he was promised a hand out
I thought Momo was weird because of her outfit... Had no clue she was best girl
I thought it looked cool
i thought it was going to be mid bc deku kept crying at the beginning, but then i gave it a chance and watched the rest of it one time in dorms of my college campus until 8am
Yeah okay, I can see it now. Deku is, at best, a very mid protagonist
I saw Bakugo first and I thought he was like a Spicy Dorito mascot
I was expecting craziness from what I heard about the fandom but it was fine
I thought ‘My Hero Academia sounds like some sort of dark anime that is really popular something like demon slayer maybe’
I was soooooo wrong
I discovered it from gacha and I was like "ew animes weird"
I thought All-Might was a student 😭
I never thought the show would be so good tho
Yes it really does
i thought it was a BL from how much ship art i saw of izuku and bakugou
i dont remember my first thoughts it was like 4 years ago brodie
all i remember is that i liked bakugo
I thought that Deku and Bakugo as kids were the cringiest thing ever
yeah...........
i don't really like deku either.
i found out about it from my 4th grade teacher and tried to watch it
and then in middle school i started watching it and all of the negative aspects affected my OCs and oc lore. I kinda get upset looking back.
I thought the characters looked cool but when I asked my otaku friends about the anime they gave me an odd look and said it wasn't really worth watching plus the cringe fandom. But then another friend would yap about it to me and convinced me to watch it so I did. It was my first shonen and I loved it
i thought that it was like demon slayer
i deff didnt expect the series to end up like thiw
i thought kirishima was mean cuz he hung out with bakugo. now hes my 2nd favourite character (MINA ON TOP)
i thought it was a cool concept and show when i started watching
I didn’t know about one for all at all, I thought he just magically gained a quirk somehow lol
same lmaoaoaoo
I thought I was gonna hate it. I mean it took so long for my best friend in middle school to get me to read it because I didn’t know. Thought i was gonna not like it. And when I did start reading it I fell in love immediately. I used to hate bakugo but now he’s been my favorite character for 7 years. And now my bff hates the anime bc I talk about it so much 😔
I thought that Deku was gonna be an unreasonable crybaby, other than that everything I predicted was correct
I don't know what I thought because as a kid I went into MHA bc of the stupid ships everyone did back in 2020
I was a brainwashed sheep, that's why I stopped watching and then rewatched everything this year
With an intellectual brain, this time I understood MHA, and was not watching it bc some random person said to watch it 😎
Saw shigaraki in a thread once, read a comment that said “he scratches his neck because he’s allergic to good writing” and thats it, that was in 2018 i believe, didnt know any other characters by then and thought it might be a bad anime
I saw people arguing with other people ab the fandom, but I decided to watch it anyway cause it capted my attention
I started watching with gacha life and discovered the anime through merch, and so I saw the pretty extreme fandom side first, and I always called Bakugo “Bango” cuz I didn’t know how to pronounce it. I just thought he was mean and stuff. And he was… until he started being nice 👉👈
new anime.
I saw random bits and pieces online then recognized it on Neflix and thought screw it, it seemed vaguely interesting
i only read the magna 😭
i got into mha because i saw my dad watch it and i was like "i wanna know more" and now i've watched all of mha about 12 times
Before MHA I wasn’t really into anime. I had watched some Studio Ghibli films but that was about it. I decided to give it a shot one day and quickly fell in love with it. It was easy to follow, funny, and the messages resonated with me. The rest is kinda history.
I saw a friend watching the USJ arc and as I didn't have any context thought that Deku was the villain and Kurogiri and the other the good ones :))
i loved ochaco, i still love her now
wierd fandom but lets give it a try. And i thought deku and green lighting powers. Also cool edits from season 6
Honestly, I didn't know it existed till I started watching it. I wanna say my best friend wanted me to watch it, but he started me off with the first 3 volumes of it.
I never looked back since, and I resonate with Deku being a big ol crybaby cause I was one growing up, so I felt seen.
That you somehow feel sorry for Shigaraki.
Idk I just stumbled upon it, and it got me into anime and manga.
Started watching it because of Bakugo 😔
I saw a bunch of cosplayers on tiktok (2018) and thought bakugo was gonna be my favorite lol
first time i heard of mha was this aftons meet mha gacha video 😭😭
pretty much all i got from those kinds of videos were midoriya = mc, superhero world with quirks, and only knew toga shigaraki and dabi from the league
some misconceptions were deku and bakugo were dating, shinso’s quirk could forcibly make someone answer a question, nezu was a human with a rat quirk, and the league often attacked ua
also i HATED shigaraki. quite literally the opposite now lmaoo
i thought about dragon ball while watching it
it used to be my least favorite show, now it's my favorite ever
I went into it thinking that I would really like Bakugo only for him to make me want to crash out for 3 seasons
I thought bakugo had a fire quirk and that muscular wanted to kidnap him because he was his dad ☠️
HOW DOES ONE COME TO THIS CONCLUSION.
thought ships were like... actually confirmed
I got introduced by my sister's rambling. I decided UGH FINE I'LL WATCH IT que 2 year hyperfixation.
I don't think I had any misconceptions, but I remember thinking Himiko was pretty, and seeing Tomura's face on a manga cover in my library made me get hit with a massive sense of FOMO (fear of missing out) which made me binge every season, since I'd been on season one for like a year.
Ironically my sister hates MHA now from how much I talk about it
i had a crush on shoto bcs he was the inly one i knew 😔
What the hell is up with the fandom this looks pretty good
I don't remember at all cuz that was over 3 years ago
First saw deku n bakugo as a ship so I start watching it just for them
same, first saw bakugo and deku, then watched the first episode sad that our awesome baku... didnt have the greatest relationship w deku to say the least.
i also thought the female representation would be better (though, now having watched more anime, I can sadly say that mha has the best female representation i've seen in anime) anyway i was also disappointed by the deku and uraraka stuff. just wasnt my thing.
*ONLY MY PERSONAL OPINION!! i have zero problem with anyone who liked or was fine with these parts of mha, just my personal take on it
Not much, I thought it looked, although I thought it was a high school anime at first instead of a shonen
Not really
I thought Shoto was gonna be a jerk at first, and i thought Deku and Bakugo were
I started watching it a whilleee ago. Like six years ago. I was ten, so I thought everything about it was really cool. It was my first anime as well.
i didnt like it at first, but when i saw bakugou and the way he treated deku, i was like "ive got to see how this ends! " also, i was really interested in todoroki and what his life was like outside of school, until i found out he was abused by his own father. So basically, Bakugou and Deku were the only reason i continued to watch MHA.
I thought it was like interesting and I wanted to try it
it was the first anime i watched and when i first heard of it i thought the entire show let alone the fanbase was absolutely stupid
I used to think it was the worst fandom ever and that it was overrated..I WAS WRONG GANG
i was always interested in watching it but didn’t have the motivation to commit. i had seen a bit of one of the movies and i though it had a cool premise!!
usually i don’t really take into consideration the fandom aspects of media since “cringe fandoms” but i was kinda aware of how infamous the fandom is
i thought that it was terrible and that deku was a pick me just bc of the fanbase and that every person in the fanbase was terrible. now, it's one of my favorite animes
I thought toga was the main villain and had an obsession w her before I knew what mha was about
I didn't know anything about anime, I just remembered seeing stuffs abt it when I was little.
I thought Aizawa was a woman, and Deku and Midoriya were twins
#QOTD
What were your first thoughts about My Hero Academia and its characters before you started watching? Did you had any misconceptions?
Had a big test and I forgot
I thought deku was izukus first name and I used to think the show sucked due to others until I wated it
Watched
I thought about my hero academia like a kind of overplay, I started in covid times to watch it because I was bored, until I got really hyped of it
when i watched mha i loved it the fandom was lowkey kinda bad but i ignored it and i always loved shoto like 4ever and ever

I honestly loved it ever since I found a random YouTube short about it, also bakugo has always been my favorite lol
Interesting and questionable things said about the fandom from other people
my first thoughts was that it would be like any other "isekai hero shonen" type anime and i was wrong big time
Before I started it, I thought that it wouldn't be that good but since I started episode 1, I have LOVED IT. ||I even convinced my friend to start watching it too, lmao.||
The first ever episode I watched of MHA was the one where All Might was fighting Deku and Bakugo in the exams and thought the whole premise of the series was that a #1 hero went rogue and they had to stop him
HELP?
IT WAS LIKE A DUB VERSION ON TV I WAS SO CONFUSED
😭
the next episode was them doing the swim contest and all and was very confused on the story after
they didn’t air em in order
