There's a few reasons why.. there would probably be shelters and the army would help too. Moreover in order to create zombies, there must be some kind of disease, which means scientists should have already known what to do to fix it. Having a way to solve the problem is one hell of a comfort or whatever.

On the other side, terrible pollution could cause death, and unlike the zombie apocalypse or whatever, it's inevitable.
