let me see if I got this right. We're on Fontaine right now so we just got a bunch of story quests there, Sumeru just got another story quest last month with Cyno, Inazuma got a new quest with Yoimiya I think last year (granted the Inazuma screen time wasn't very long), Liyue just got a new story quest back in January in celebration of lantern rite/lunar new year, so now that just leaves Mondstadt. In all honesty I feel like Hoyo's neglected Mondstadt in recent years, not just with poor limited events, but no story nor archon quests, no new area, no Venti quest 2 for whatever reason after 3 or 4 years, and the only permanent/relevant thing we got in the last little while is probably Kaeya's hangout. There are so many crazy important characters connected to Mondstadt, and yet right now Hoyo doesn't seem to be doing much with them

Noele had a hangout event Barbara and bennet had a hangout event, there were past events like Alchemical Ascension Event, Windblume's Breath event and many more event's that took place in Mondstadt. I personally disagree to what you are saying there are allot of story quests for characters that went around Mondstadt including Diluc's quest jeans quest, Lisa, Amber, Klee and more characters, one reason i think why Mondstadt hasn't gotten any updates is because developers want to make a huge update to make Mondstadt more fun and add more Lore to he game i will link a HoYoLAB post to some discussions on Mondstadt update that might likely come to be.

Since Mondstadt was the very first nation we ever visited and the one that most likely (i havent played in a while so i am not sure) highly associate with the obviously past khaen'riah (i think that's how you spell it) developers might make a new quest and i say 'might' because we're not sure if it is so they might make a highly detailed quest talking about clues in past khaen'riah leading up to old mondstadt and tbe newest mondstadt that we know today. Since I am not sure this is my theory to what might happen.

I mean the current theory is that the next map expansion that won't be from a new nation is going to be mondstadt, because it'll supposedly be the pathway to Snezhnaya as most believe it's directly north of Mondstadt. As for Khaenri'ah? Well idk, we know Mondstadt has connections to Khaenri'ah because of Kaeya's existence, but then again there's also other connections elsewhere such as Dainsleif's investigations in Sumeru and Arlecchino's existence. Still, I do like to think Mondstadt will become very relevant again by the time we go to Khaenri'ah

The new expansion might as well be there (i honestly forgot the mountain quest of mondstadt but this is my guess correct me if I'm) and i think that the expansion to Snezhnaya might be linked the to Mountain maybe related to their archons death and maybe we might get some new lore to the mountain and to mondstadt hopefully but yes like you said mondstadt might be very useful when going to the path of learning about Khaenri'ah and it's past.
