Because defense doesn't do anything for the characters, there are other stats that are prioritized. Healers and shielders can help keep them alive, they don't need defense to keep themselves alive

Okay. So. The only characters that need defense are usually preservation characters. Those characters make shields for the entire team usually. The reason why other characters don't need them is because 1, they usually scale off other stats like ATK, so you'll need to get as much as possible and you can't worry about defense. 2, it doesn't usually do anything, it doesn't help them too much if you give it to them. 3, other characters can keep the character that DOESNT need defense alive via shields or healing, which is also why you don't want defense because other characters do it for you.
