Actually Kalim is based off the Sultan. Which actually makes sense. Kalim is basically the cheerful dorm leader, who turn to Jamil who is the is vice dorm leader, aka second in command. Basically the relationship between the Sultan and Jafar.

There is actually a point in the story where Jamil uses his unique magic to hyponotize Kalim, and when Kalim is hypnotized, he has glowing red eyes.
