hero trials are the runs that give you a single character shard for each time you run them. mainly they are for characters from B to A rarity, but battlepass-involved characters aren't there (can't grind Mina or Ojiro shards). Plus you can buy buffs to the hero trials capacity so you can grind 5 character shards each day which allows to easier SSS+ing.
Mirio support card boosts the character's Quirk. It's not great on all of the characters but it does work well with some

No, Support Cards work in any game mode where the character and their equipment is involved, so like, a lion (read as "huge") part of the game, except for Arena PVP.
The Hero Trials is just a mode for grinding character shards, nothing special. It isn't any different from fights in Peacekeeping game mode.

Mirio card is viewed as useless because it isn't universal however! Boosting some character's Quirk (or as i call it Special Mode) usually doesn't give much benefits. Like some passives are complex or just not worth of using.
