@gloomy void I played some of the Tales of Arise demo and it's actually pretty interesting

The cool combinations with the characters, the ability to play as the different characters, and the flashy attacks are great

Yep that’s about what I’d say are good points too lol. Of course you probably noticed that it’s all instanced combat which is prob a negative lol. Since most people would rather have the overworld and combat be seemless. Arise itself also is pretty guilty of it having a kind of pay to win store being a Tales Game - they’ve done it before. The shop itself is semi-intrusive as I think campfires show you it.

However if you can overlook all that I think it’s a great game to play. The combos of the characters are all pretty cool and it has a very combo-centric style like DMC. DMC rewards you with rankings, while Arise rewards you with those instant-kill attacks for not dropping a combo. Story is just ok, nothing to write home about. But if you want a pretty satisfying combat games Arise is pretty good haha.

You also don’t really have to grind as following story and doing the short side quests keep you leveled enough. The one problem I do have with Tales sidequests is that there doesn’t seem to be like a visible recommended level suggestions for it. So Arise could just outright send you to something you’re too low leveled to pursue and on top of that removes the escape option. Which is kind of BS.

But other than that I really do like how combat is handled in Arise. There’s a separate gauge for healing, attacks can vary/be customized, and it feels satisfying to have that non-dropped combo result in a flashy instant kill attack lol.

You also get items that you can use to restore health and the gauge. So it’s kinda like FFXV. However, Arise is very skimpy on money unlike FFXV. So you can’t just buy the revive stuff all the time or you’ll be broke.

I’d say a lotta people definitely compare XV and Arise together.

Arise is definitely more linear and less exploratory. There’s still stuff to explore, but the game isn’t really making a show of the land.

Which might be a positive or negative depending on if you just wanna do story stuff and the like.

Yeah haha Arise is a bit less forgiving in that department lol.

However unlike XV Arise will eventually give you access to more moves and you can fully chose which ones you want depending on playstyle.

The Demo only gives you a lotta the grounded moves for example. Meanwhile in my current game Alphen has a lotta sky attack moves and some that keep him in the air longer.

So it’s not just “Spam X” to attack. Especially when Arise has a system where if you keep repeating a move it gets weaker.

So you do end up having to learn how to vary your combos.

And it also seemed like the arts or whatever they're called can change depending if you're on the ground or not
