They made it more open world. However, it’s reverted back to base barebones cause they restarted everyone (base PSO2 is still there, and your progress) and they’re working on bug fixes/balancing atm.

I’d say you’ll fully enjoy the combat because they improved all the weapons to be in line with successors. But as for content it’s mostly get to level 20, do the 2 Urgent Quest Bosses, and maybe take down the Nightmare versions of the bosses (wouldn’t recommend tho)

Also, if you do play it always return to village if it starts raining. Those “nightmare”/gigantix bosses pop up when it’s raining. And the high level end game doofuses start getting toxic if a low level is anywhere near that boss. (Since you can’t deal damage and the more people around it, the higher the HP). Such a great way to intro peeps to a game, huh?

one of the main things i remember from the game was like going through the effort 2 unlock the fist weapons and it gave me like 1 skill with them

And as for stats and affixes, bosses/enemies drop capsules for those and you put it on your gear. So there’s no more gear RNG besides capsule drop and whether or not you have enough capsules to put it on your weapon.

Well actually that’s a lie. Maximum amount of capsules for a specific stat is 10, and some capsules are 9%. So you effectively have 90% chance it ends up on the weapon sometimes… but there are % chance ups to make that 100 probably later down the line like they used to.

Here's a screenshot of my skill tree. Because everyone's capped at 20, there's definitely fewer skills you have to choose from. But that's entirely because we're all low level now that we don't have to make those choices.. So who knows what it's gonna look like when all our classes are back to the level 100 cap (Bet it's gonna be a complicated mess again unfortunately).

The one thing I don't enjoy in NGS however is the gigantix/nightmare bosses. Cause that's where all the elitists pop out.

For some reason the devs thought it was a genius idea to tie a boss to the weather and the fact that they're a field boss. Everyone around it scales up it's hp and if you're lower than level cap, you do 1 damage. Like bruh, why don't you just make sure it doesn't scale to people who can't do damage or just make it an arena like UQ again.

The market in base PSO2 is practically hyper inflated now that most peeps moved on to NGS. All the old stuff is practically now 100 million.

However the new stuff if you're playing as a male char, outfits are around 10k (I suspect female chars pay more because of the demand)

NGS is a semi-fresh restart. What happens is that from base PSO2 you can carry over your cosmetics and some weapons and armors. However, for the weapons and armors, they are omega nerfed and are just "boosts" for peeps who played previous PSO2. They easily get outdated and replaced by the time you're even able to use them.

However things that do not transfer over is previous money, and previous levels. So if you're just playing NGS and only wanna do NGS stuff, progress is affected by like a sliver. No one that is "meta" in NGS is using old gear. And old gear becomes obsolete.

You are affected cosmetically though. But as it stands now, they're also planning to rerelease costumes from base PSO2 into NGS. The cosmetics from base PSO2 have also become outdated in that they're not fully compatible with the body types of NGS. So to truly look good, you'd have to buy the NGS versions of the costumes.

There's also what most people use: the "Tweaker version" of PSO2 NGS that is basically the standalone launcher that can access stuff the Xbox/Steam/Epic ones can. I just play on Steam though because I'm not... that integrated with the Tweaker version haha

I will say though, once NGS gets it bosses rolling I think it'll be enjoyable. I really enjoyed base PSO2's boss fights immensely. We had stuff like a time stopping giant bird and he was one of my faves hahaha. But who knows how long until NGS gets there. Since like NA's base PSO2 got an accelerated 10 years of content compared to JP who had to wait for all that.
