Marathon is kinda back on its feet again with Season 2 from what I saw because they are adding PvE to the game etc.
Marathon is a good game but Bungie didn't realize the game was too fucking hard and competitive which makes the playerbase way smaller
so they are finally adding more casual play etc.
If that goes well, for Bungie to really get back on their feet they gotta make Destiny 3
like imo the only thing that can really save Bungie is Destiny 3

- Its an extraction shooter and with Arc Raides on the market Marathon was already a hard sell.
- Even if the game was going to compete with Arc Raiders, the game is way too hardcore and competitive which already removes a casual playerbase.
- The game did have a successful f2p test before release.
- The game didn't even fail that much. The game didn't meet its budget as far as I read but it didn't do that bad for it to EoS and still has an active community and playerbase that likes the game.

thats not even comparable though, Deadlock's success (for a game thats not even released to public) is because its from a developer aka Valve thats already giant, its a hero shooter + a full on MOBA game which is a good twist since the MOBA market really is only Dota 2 and LoL anyways. Outside of that Deadlock and Marathon's "hard time getting into it" are completely diffirent things.

Since Marathon's release I have not seen a valid take on the game calling it bad (unvaild takes are "ew too many colors" and "characters not attractive"). The game is very much not being successful enough because its on the extraction shooter market which is literally already won over by Arc Raiders and a genre nobody asking for. Second point is that even people want to get into it, including Arc Raiders players, Marathon is simply not casual friendly at all and the game is overly competitive.
