If someone hasn't told you already, you can take a stock image and edit it if you don't want to draw an entire bg for the preview. But I think a simple grassy field would look super nice against all of those warm shades, or even a night sky with some blurry fireflies/fairies floating around. The skin stands out, so you don't need a super complicated bg.

I agree with the other feedback, the shadow from the hat coming down on the faces looks off. It's too heavy and adds a rather sad look to such cute lil mushroom people. Same goes for the shading on the females chest, generally you don't need shading there since the clothes are already shaded themselves, adding that depth for you. ❤

I would also suggest spreading the hair highlight color out instead of just having it on the one side. It would make the hair look a lot more shiny and realistic to streak it throughout her hair. You may also want to consider adding some sort of lip color to bring more attention to her cute face, that way the freckles would also be more prominent!

It looks a lot better in my opinion. You've opened up the space and made it look more airy and cute instead of heavy. If it bothers you too much, you might want to extend the shading on the mushroom cap around the edge, that may help even it out!

There's def a few things you could do for the bg! Magic circles is a good one, like spell circles or summoning ones that match the dark magic swirls coming from the book. You could do a digital/computer virus vortex type of background, pixels and tendrils of code coming to wrap around her, sort of the acting as the source of her curse, or even a collective background like you wanted but a nice blend of cyber and witch things like strings of code and potion bottles, broken screens and herbs, cybernetic brooms! Or a more simple punky one, like a cyberpunk city view with a neon sign or a lil witch shop window. You can go as complex or simple as you'd like!

Everyone had to start somewhere in their art journey and I don't think is is a bad first try! The best way to start a skin is to go in with a solid idea and references if it's your first time. It'll make everything much smoother if you have good visuals and can see how to get your art to look like what you've envisioned!

But as far as this goes, I'd suggest not using pure black, it never translates well in most applications because it's just too dark. A lighter black/dark grey would look a lot better than solid black. You may also want to copy and flip the tentacles instead of drawing them all individually, that way they're all the same size and thickness. It keeps the design from looking wonky. Shading and highlights also help balance out objects, it isn't hard at all and you'll get much better depth and be able to make your art stand out much more! Just basic art techniques like this will make it a million times better and easier to get the results you want!

For me it looks like a good start.
The eyes could be a "clean" on the sides (if you know what I mean.
Also try to use the mirrow function for drawing the yes (except of the highlights) for making it look more even/symmetrical.

Also the second picture looks better with the red eye, it's bigger than the above and that makes it look better.

(For me it looks heavily referenced from an anime, please correct me if I'm wrong. If you want to submit a design later it can't be something which is already existing (e.g. a character from an anime))

Its just sneakily hidden behind 1 layer of 90 opacity leaf and flower, and 1 35 opacity veil (all of which i'll categorise under mask layer.

Im going to attach an image where the veil, flower, leaf are all at 10 opacity each. It looks like really creepy.....

This is what i did for a water effect butterfly bg!

I would say that pick around 3-4 different colors to layer on your main hair color. Pick darker blue and those with greenish tinges. Layer them in weird blobs -- its water. No uniform shape.

Then ripples is where the fun comes in! create a whole canvas full of out of shape circles or funky rounded squished squares. Make some lines thin in the middle, make others thick in the middle, and connect the squares/circles with smooth lines at intersections.

Create a second layer of that, and turn it black with alpha lock or clip or smth. Then put it on the layer below, and lower its opacity. Rotate it some degrees, and enlarge it a little.

If u think the water pattern isnt flowing together tint everything a bit of the same colour. Itll tie in btr

The red suit is pretty, but it contrasts a little too much against all the blue and detracts from the gorgeous hair you already have, so the first one looks and works better for your idea. You can thicken the red striping if you think there isn't enough red, you could even add a blue section to the hair tie to make it extra sailor inspired and keep those lovely colors throughout! 💙

You have an absolutely gorgeous skin here! 💛 Egyptian Goddess vibes all the way with those bright yellows and the eyes! The only real feedback I have here is that a couple of the lines on her body aren't completely symmetrical, the most noticeable ones seem to be on the arms. The sun on the forehead also doesn't have symmetric points, they're all different thicknesses and lengths. It also looks like the two hoop earrings aren't rounded out. You can use a line stabilizer to help make them a little sharper and more defined, but other than that, there isn't anything huge or obvious. You've done an amazing job!

If you're open and looking for feedback though, there is a couple of small things that would keep this work of art from getting in-game. From afar it looks like the sun, eyes, and her lips might be shaded using gradients, which isn't allowed in-game. You can use fake gradients but not actual ones due to how the skin is transfered to the game. The hair also can't be behind the back, it has to either be on each side of the avatar or over the shoulder, but not behind. Other than those things, the skin is beautifully done! I love how rich and colorful it is, how everything screams summer vacation! I really hope you get this in-game, if that's your goal!

When you're done with your design and feel like it's the best version possible, you just dm a mini-mod (one of these cuties) with the your avatar and grave in one picture, the name of it, and then wait for them to discuss the skin with you, get approval from the other mods, and put it in #dev-vote where it can be voted on and hopefully approved to be in-game! I think yours is very pretty and would easily make it!

For submitting it, all you have to do is save it as a png like normal. You'll only have to trace it and convert it into an svg if it's accepted as an in-game skin. There's a few drawing apps like IbisPaint that already save it as an svg for you and there's some people on the server that will trace it for you so you don't have to!

A clan gem quest can have 8 items maximum, a gold quest can have 6 max and I believe you're at 9 items with the accessories (bg, hair, flower, eyes, glasses, earrings, lips, shirt, foreground). You'd either have to make the flower (hat) part of the hair or remove an accessory. You don't have to go for a clan quest either, but it's normally the easiest way since there's more competition with shop offers and the BP.

Backgrounds always do, that's why most clan quests don't have a background because it takes up an item slot vs another accessory slot. You have a couple of options though. If the flower is part of the hair (1 item) then with the accessories you're at 8. A grave would make it 9, so you could merge the glasses and the earrings as 1 mask item, which isn't super common but could work, or you could pick between the two, but that's a hard choice. Both of them are adorable.

Oooh, I thought the blush was already part of the eyes, that's normally how it's done so you don't take up a mask item! o: So without the grave and if the flower (normally a hat item) is part of the hair as in it's all 1 item, then you're at 8 items altogether. Which means you could keep the glasses, earrings, and the fan as separate items and have all of them. The grave makes it 9 items, so if you really want the grave then you'd only have to remove 1 item (the fan like you said) or you'd merge the glasses and the earrings as 1 mask item since the blush is part of the eyes.

It means the highlight of your eyes is facing the same direction, which would happen if you held a mirror against one of the eyes. You'd have the same image twice. Real eye lights aren't mirrored, they're reflected because that's what causes the highlight in the first place. Just move them to either side like the first example of an in-game eye that isn't mirrored. They look more realistic since it isn't copied.

I just said a bunch of random comments. From mush birb: Oooh, I love the spirit seer vibes! She's so pretty and mysterious, definitely would send you to a demonic realm if you looked at her ghost babies wrong. I also agree with her feedback, the ghosts/spirits would look more spooky with a transparent aura around them. It would also tie in better with the seer theme. I also think lowering her eyebrows just a little bit would give her a more serious look, it would also keep them from blending into the bangs like they currently do. I think she'd also look really good with a big, old looking spell book opened in front of her. I just love the mystical, magic vibes you've managed to capture here!

It's subjective. Nowhere in the style guide does it explicitly say that mirrored eye highlights aren't allowed, but people tend to get called out for it when submitting it. So, it isn't a rule, but does count against you. The guide needs to be updated considering how much different the WOV style is now compared to when the game first came out.

This is a very pretty and interesting skin! I love the idea behind it, demon cutie showing off her blood magic. It's gorey and creepy in the best of ways. I really hope you aren't giving up on it because this is just so amazing! ❤

Feedback wise, you can't use real gradients like you used for the hands and I believe the eyebrows. I think you need that extra depth on the hands, it adds a lot more color and visual interest to the monochrome palette, so layering thin variations of the shades you already have on the hands would work better to achieve that same beautiful depth! I also agree with the other feedback here, while bangs would look awkward on the style of hair you've chosen, they would allow you to do away with the hat and try a different style of hat or even a headband/crown. Making the hair thicker and fuller would help you achieve that since the thinner/flatter the hair, the less the you can do with it. You could take inspiration from some super thick in-game hair and see how it would look on your skin here. If you do choose to use a fuller hairstyle, you may want to add another layer of clothing to the shirt to improve the proportions, like adding a leather jacket or a cloak to play up the demonic/magical vibe of the skin.

No matter the direction you go with your design, just try to stay positive and continue improving your skills! Art is a journey and everyone's is different. It's okay if your journey is little more rocky, you'll eventually reach the top, but giving up won't help. Keep trying and creating! ❤️ ❤️ ❤️

I don't think the eyes are too feminine at all, the lash line is a little too thick for my taste. It almost looks like he's wearing fake lashes, but the eye shape itself is perfect for him. It adds that extra baddie touch! Mouths tend to be an exception to the outline rule since you can't really draw thin lips without it being an outline, there's a lot of male mouths that follow the trend. The line under the mouth may count against you though, I would personally just leave the shadow instead of the solid black line to indicate the pout.
