#Creatinine clearance
163 messages ยท Page 1 of 1 (latest)
creatinine clearance, like, how clear the chemicals would form in the bladder?
Just did my end of year exams and have already forgotten how to calculate this
What about the patients weight, hight and maybe even diuresis?
his medical conditions count, too
Yes!
yeah
Age could help
age is not that effective though, it's only the body's reaction to hormonal changes and time passing
yet, it's not what it is called "age"
Also we need the values of urea and creatinine in serum too
creatinine clearance = (((140 - age in years) x (wt in kg)) x 1.23) / (serum creatinine in micromol/l). That was the equation in my lectures, not much good here
Well you do have a point but also a 10 month old, a 20 year old (who might take creatinine supplements) and a 70 year old (which probably has EGF of below 60) could help us solve this
correct
agreeable
Nice one. We use it too
They did mention plasma concentration of creatinine. Although I'm not too sure of the variation between levels of creatinine in plasma and serum
Yes I was wondering if there was some equation to convert or if they are equivalent
Also you should multiply by 0.85 if the patient is a female
Could @stiff oriole possibly give us additional information or a hint?
Good to know thanks
wait omw to scour some weird formula ๐
You don't need any additional info
bit sus that these 3 came up lemme find something with plasma thingy in it
||111ml min?|| spoiler?
||111.11mL/min||
just edit it and go ||text||
Thanks for the help @elfin cave
np
No idea. I just embarrassed myself
double ||
just copy paste from mine ๐ญ ๐
A-HA!
Gotcha. Thanks. Haven't used discord in ages tbh. So I forgot some of the stuff
also based for cowboy bepop pfp
Got the same btw
@stiff oriole i gotta thank you for increasing my internet digging skills with all the biology QOTWs ๐ญ (i'm sam, btw idk if you remember me ๐ )
Will we get a pat on the back if we were right?
I have the equation but don't know how to mark as spoiler
||text||
Ty
isn't that really big of a number though?
Hey thats what the site said hahaha
||(Urine creatinine concentration X Urine Flow Rate) / Plasma Creatinine Concentration ||
@elfin cave wait
hmm?
Bro... I'm too brainwashed from work to realise what I did
๐ญ yeah
i was tryna see where i went wrong
๐
Nah you did great. I just probably messed up with switching the literes to mL
Woops
i was like dang maybe paper calculation doesn't work
also tbf i didn't put the ||0.11||
this is the first QOTW i've gotten right first try ๐ญ meanwhile i've gone rat limb stats scavenging in the past
Tbh I'm so used to the data we use everyday in our lab when we do clearances that it took my brain a bit to process the info
Hopefully there will be more medical things like this. I like it
i just googled creatinine clearance and put all the data we have and landed on the initial link i sent
then i dug more and found the eq i could use manually
this was my first clue on what was relevant
Yeah I've enjoyed lurking on the past medical ones, this has been the first that's landed durring a time that I'm free
I sometimes have the stoopid when it comes to maths haha. My coworker today wrote that 0 > 0.1
then i googled further with those 3 and ended up on some research link
Smart cookie
i have to give robin full credit though ๐ญ i have bookmarked like 30 links from his other QOTWs
Are you in the medical field or do you just surf the Internet for info
i like larping as a med appreciator but i just graduated highschool ๐
Smol bean
so like i do have enough to know what all the stats mean but i've never had to use them
Damn, seems you've already got the research down anyway
If you're interested in seeing human serums lmk
I'm year 1 med so haven't got much more idea about it really
again i used to be some sorta "waouw i wanna be a cardiothoracic surgeon ๐ค " (yes i was dumb)
๐
omg sure
it's like 2AM thou i'll be back in a few hours with a better working brain
I have a few mates who want that job, there's only one job opening for that in my country tho
And I shall be asleep. It's almost 11pm for me. Do hmu when you're down for an educational chat or something of the sorts
i did like the idea of performing CABG idk "wow i get to stop the heart? ๐ค " kinda stuff
Luckily not many people need that kind of doc
Very true, what role are you in if you don't mind me asking?
@golden mango nigul you might like this QOTW you med larper
I'm sadly not a doctor. Though thanks to my educational program I'm a nurse a midwife and a laboratory technician as we would call it (but to be honest I'm working as a aliexpress biochemist and a technician since I run the lab (kinda))
It's weird when I explain it in English but I swear it makes sense
Forget about 'sadly' not a doctor. Sounds like you do more than most doctors I know
lab technicians are goated though
๐ฅน
Exactly
I'm lucky to work in a polyclinic which has various specialists and a lab and when I work alone (without our biochemist/director) I'm next in line of responsibility so I get to do my own thing and also learn a lot of stuff from doctors
Though the downside is that we don't really have any emergencies so surgically speaking I'm not the most informed
that sounds fun ngl ๐ if the salary wasn't terrible and super competitive i'd have considered this field
I mean I'm happy
salary being terrible is exclusive to my country idk
Ah
You're not the only one trust me. Mine was not the best until I was ready to quit
Sounds really interesting, I'm doing a research project this summer (if it gets funded ๐ค) and I'm really looking forward to working in a lab environment.
It's hella fun. And working with some of the newest machines is unreal
idk i suddenly realised the importance of a corporate insured job when my mom was in the ICU ๐ญ so i'll probably be going the corporate rat route
pee
Tho tbh I'm assuming your lab work and mine won't be the same
Well considering the doctors in my country are on strike atm I don't think I could recommend med, for the money anyway
i'd never go to med for money ngl, that's very passion and energy driven
Mine would be mostly on lung cells and fibrosis
i met so many cool doctors, but all of them were overworked to death
Something for me to look forward to ig
๐ญ the non-ICU emergency room ones were a bit chiller
What area are you involved in?
Was aiming for ED or GP so probably not going to be the chillist of people lol
the ER was such a horrifying place ngl, all stroke patients and screaming and crying overall yeah idk how they do it
it was night time so yeah mostly stroke patients
Try to get the best thing your country has to offer until you find something better elsewhere.
thas the plan
Rn the polyclinic is trying to stay on the path of internal medicine but we have a radiologist, oncologist- urologist, nephrologist.... on a daily basis. Other doctors don't work daily but some are; cardiologists, endocrinologist etc... a lot of specialist and I make most of the lab analyses happen
It's not the easiest thing to explain my job nor the posision I'm in since the type of schooling I went through is specific for my country and also the type of work I do is not an everyday thing
You get used to it. Went from labour and delivery to internal medicine ICU and dialysis department
the screaming isn't as loud as the time passes
A real jack of all trades then
ICU nurses are very efficient i feel kinda bad that i couldn't give them thank you notes like i did for the doc
It's never boring, I'll tell you that much
I could imagine
Oo also we got a pediatrician
that's a little terrifying ๐ญ
Poor kiddo burnt his leg by spilling boiling water on himself... you can imagine how that went
so there's always screaming?
The full age range too then, you really do have it all
Yeah one of our first lectures was by a pediatrician... he brought pictures
In the ICU theres a few rules (and also anywhere with normal people): no screaming, no running for coworkers
The patients groan, cry, scream... hey imagine drawing blood from a 2 year old
oh i mean ER not ICU tbf i didn't hear much screams from the ICU just 20 beeping machines ๐
Almost. Plan is to expand even more
I mean yeah, thats the difference from the ER and ICU
i will be asking you for the serum thingy though seems cool
Thought you would have geriatric covered by all the dialysis
Idk where I could send them
ER was all screams
#science-and-engineering i think
Some of my experience is from working in the hospital. ICU, labour and delivery and dialysis is some of those. The rest is from the private polyclinic I work at rn
Ah, i see
@stiff oriole indeed a med school moment. Thought you were in a neuroscience lab though
what is the qotw
aight imma do this after chicken nugget break
omg chicken nuggies ๐
can i just point it out that the plasma creatinine is awfully low
I'm multidisciplinary like that ๐ซก
isn't the result simply ||111|| ml/min ?
ANSWER
|| The formula is:
creatinine clearance = urine flow rate * urine conc of creatinine / plasma conc of creatinine
So that's 0.8*1.25/0.009= 111.11 ||
i'm gonna take a wild guess and multiply two random numbers and hope. 1.25*.8=1 ( i don't know how to do this).
