#Respawn Tanks Aren't A Good Idea

Respawn Tanks, like in any other Battle Royale, is a way for teammates to resurrect dead teammates. Similar to how we have Reboot Vans in Fortnite. Or the Buy Stations in Warzone. It's a neat little feature but I think it's not meant for Super Animal Royale at its current state.

Why do I think this?

The matches are too short and the map is too small for Respawn Tanks to make a massive impact. Let alone possibly being used or utilized thanks to the small amount of players actually in a match at one given time.

The solution? Don't add them until we have a bigger map and more players to utilize them since I feel these Tanks will only be very niece in their use.

Still, that's how I see it. I think the feature itself is cool. But yeah.

lol i just made one of these forums

wise finch
#

I entirely agree, but the feature has been coded and implemented... may as well see how it plays out

sleek kernel
#

That is true, but ehh. Guess we can see how it pans out on a smaller pop game.

#

I just personally think these features are better suited for bigger games, with more match time, player counts and map size.

queen flint
#

i think its a good idea, its not like its effecting the game in a negative way. maybe there is not a lot of players because there is no revives. adding this could increase the amount of players and also enahnce the game play.

sleek kernel
#

There isn't many players due to them just getting killed. Full team and all.

#

Another issue is if you play with randoms and they just leave after they die. Rebooting becomes useless.

wise finch
#

I mean, less people will leave after death with reboots now available...

#

But my real concern would be ping spams for revival

surreal dove
#

either a bigger map or only like 2 around

wise finch

and unfortunately you have no way of muting by their name in the HUD...

but if it takes up a gun slot people might not use it

wise finch

That is not enough of a deterrent

lean flume

The new pings problem could be addressed independently. Such as anti-spam limitations.

sleek kernel
#

I feel the thingie you need to pick up just is added into the inventory in its own slot

sleek kernel
#

But still, since they already have coded the feature. We'll see how it truely affects a real SAR game.

dont know how i feel about this new respawn concept either

Yeah

#

Best we can do is wait and try it out.

#

And only then we can get our pitch forks and torches. monkey_laugh

i like it tbh

but i mostly play solos anyway

lean flume

And I say this as one who hasn't got any objection to it. I just acknowledge that it's not conducive to retention for a player to die and be required to wait for all other allies to fall or win before they are allowed to play their next match. Especially fill.

ripe citrus
#

We don't even have those implemented, I think we should use them first before considering it a bad idea

fringe swift
#

I'm a little mixed if only because it feels like it'd mostly only benefit friends playing together - prefilled teams often have people who kinda go do their own thing, especially with cross-platform restrictions (iirc certain consoles can't type) limiting communication.

#

and then yeah, the pingspam already mentioned

stuck sun
#

My biggest concern for Respawn Tanks has to do with the fact that SAR matches are really balanced between casual players and competitive players. How will a causal player stand a chance against a try-hard constantly respawning?

lean flume
#

And console disadvantages (shoulkd they remain) also.

supple cedar
lean flume

I think some are saying that the tryhards will be more likely to be using them though.

#

Of course on a different note, this might bring about interesting interactions where players fight over a tank.

I also wonder if tanks wouldn't be kinda, too limited? The balance between 'enough to make a visible impact to the average squad with how fast space dwindles' and 'not so many that it feels like you're constantly seeing them around the corner' feels like it'll be pretty fragile, if at all possible.

mighty shuttle
#

I dont know, if they want to test it out, they should make this feature optional as the "bot fill" toggle

wise finch
#

Since they'd be less prone to team wipes, and would likely know how to make the most of an extra member compared to a fill team

I completely disagree as I don't think The Tanks would be available for Normal Royal mode

lean flume

I wonder if it would be wise to only introduce the tanks in Duos... 🤔

#

At least at first.

proven needle
#

As for Four it's would be complicated

lean flume
#

It might actually boost Duos popularity as it'd have a thing to set it apart.

lean flume
#

And Squads would still exist.

proven needle
#

Newbies always play it once and never again

proven needle
lean flume
#

It would be a lesser shock to the existing royale player base and it would allow for tanks to get proper testing and tweaking in Duos.

#

Might even pair well with new players being encouraged to try duos because they exist.

lean flume
#

(although SvR remains superior for most learning purposes)

#

(If one wanted to get SvR's learning without the capture points - then Team DeathMatch is a concept that was recently-ish raised)

proven needle
#

Yes indeed

lean flume
#

Now that I think back to it, I wonder if the respawn mechanic were modified such that players had three lives - but could only access them if revived.

So... one hamball downs the player, another kills them. What if they could still be revived on the spot, or picked up and placed somewhere and revived - until the three lives are expended. 🤔

(I'm just thinking out loud on the above - I do think that it would be a very radical departure for a 'royale' mode to have this)

In honesty I think that we should see how the current respawn tanks work. They might work better than anticipated. But probably a little overly bold to activate in both duos 'and' squads.

feral blaze
#

on one hand im excited to see new content! and i don't want to criticize much until i actually see it in action

on the other hand ive had discussions about reviving mechanics with friends and also in this server a few times, and i think it will end up making skilled players even harder for newer players to defeat because now they have to get lucky twice

regardless ill save my final thoughts for after they're released

(also i hope i can blow them up with grenades)

wintry cedar
#

I'll get the pitchforks later.

But I guess It will be a good final nail in the coffin for me, if the squad mode just turns into "Trap the respawn tanks" the gamemode too -- on top of the occasional cross teaming and downed bodyblocking, which aren't really a fun mechanic imo.

#

Esp with how this only seems to benefit alr partied squads or the "so-called" tryhards. (????)
Been fun ig.

manic badge
#

I do think respawns are bad for a few reasons:

  • First, a game is on average, 7 min. While Fortnite, Apex Legends and others BRs are ~30 mins, it makes sense for them. Not for SAR.
  • People will mostly camp respawn points and dead bodies to avoid respawning
  • Before, if you kill a high tier player, he's dead until the end. Now, try to fight him twice in the same game. People will gonna complain more about "tryharders" being revived and camping respawn points so normal squads couldnt even have respawns
mighty shuttle
#

Still, I do think this should be implemented as an optional feature, not forced, default off, to those who actually wanna experiment, having private matches also could be something to be used with friends only

twin quail
#

mkel has a good point tho, about the better people. the map and playtime of the game is gonna simply jump up in difficulty if there are more skilled people, since the game already has few players and it's likely going to be harder for them to get adapted to the game

#

but i also believe at least experimenting with it wouldn't hurt

manic badge
# lofty horizon People afraid of changes, sad.

We dont know exactly how it works for now. Maybe there is a timer, maybe only one revive per person, ... But I still think this thing will more advantages high tier players rather than casuals.

lean flume
#

One possibility here is having revives cost super serum...

In theory experienced players would use more... and, yes, experienced players have tons of the stuff...

But alt accounts less so, especially burner ones.

twin quail
#

i mean, when there are tools available for everybody, of course the more skilled players will have more value out of it than others

lean flume

Yes, there is a 60 second timer. Yes that favours experienced players.

I think it'll be fine. It makes early game losses more forgiving instead of how detrimental it is to be outnumbered late game. Yet it is still a penalty as rebooting has always been risky in brs. It'll change up the gameflow which is nice because we've been playing the same thing for a long time.

# mighty shuttle No worries, it's a polemic opinion too, not the entire community agrees sometime...

As a minor indie game developer (with no public projects yet), I do understand the power of community and I fear my future projects might end up stuck on any sort of safe zones, I like to see games evolving, getting better, mistakes will happen no matter the project, but preventing anything to happen is also condemning the project into a limbo, I also think game lores should be open to public influence as well in some cases, it enhances the immersion of the playera into the story. To exemplify that, I remember a game that had a 2-sides war where there was a war status on the main page calculating the victory count of both sides to se which side wins the season, it was a feature that players influenced on next seasons

# violet veldt Yeah if it took a gun slot thatd be somewhat balanced

According to teasers, it is probably some kind of "drop" from killing others.
Instead of .. like using your actual serums. But it doesn't change the fact that actual partied players get an extra life for free.

Like look, I'm not against change or anything; but I don't think this is it.

proven needle
#

Personally I think they should do something like Call of Duty did

#

When you collect The Special Serum you return

#

But you're team will Lost some points because you died

wise finch

Points don't affect whether a team wins or loses.

#

And this doesn't compensate the teams that fall victim to the one that got a revive.

supple mica
#

IMO the only good answer to this thread is "wait for it to be released and try it out before giving judgement"

cedar jewel
#

I'll give my two cents on this

This, if done right, will make it far more enjoyable.
Why? Squads & duos suffers from the fact that if you die early you have to sit there through the entire match otherwise you don't get the rewards for the match. dying really early on really just to watch others play for like 10 minutes isn't exactly fun, so actually being able to come back is going to be nice

It also adds new lore in some way, Id wager we'll get an update on respawning and whether super animals remember stuff or not regarding death

New players won't be penalized as badly for death

HOWEVER, I feel like it should be 1 respawn per person. Anything past that and you have an issue with drawing the game out longer than it usually lasts, additionally I feel as if they're gonna be camped so it would be nice if there was something to try and restrict it, maybe make catmines unable to be thrown within a small area around it or something

lean flume
#

I am also reminded of #🧩feedback message as a further mechanic that could be used to mitigate the fears expressed. 🤔

#

Now, for a fun sub-suggestion.

Put SAW insignia on all the respawn tanks. This may serve well for that which follows.

#

Picture the following:

The finch shows up (before Crisprmas, of course) to fume at the introduction of all the respawn tanks.

He orders for 'Operation {think up a witty name here}' to begin, to destroy all the tanks.

A shaky voice arises that they don't have enough resources to take them all out.

In a cold rage the finch slams a feathered fist down, scaring everybody around him, and the shaky voice says that they can maybe take out squads.

The finch begrudgingly agrees, demanding that his will be done as the scene fades out, leaving only his eyes, turning into emblazoned fires as the scene transitions to one where rebels are burning the tanks, blowing them up and whacking them with melee implements.

Just some random fluff that might make the best of the announcement.

sharp talon
# manic badge I do think respawns are bad for a few reasons: - First, a game is on average, 7...

I agree with the second and third point, but not the first. The way I've seen respawning in longer timed games, they suffer from the same issues as point two and three, however it comes down to a waiting game to be respawned around ten to fifteen minutes after your death, only to die soon after being respawned again.

The premise of a Respawning Mechanic should be to [1] Give the user a way to re-enter the action to keep engagement, [2] Get the user back into the action in a relatively short period of time. By the shots of multiple different Respawn Tanks in the clip, I'd say that's more possible in this game than others.

I'm not a fan of Respawn Tanks, but I'm willing to give this a shot and see how it is at launch. If something is busted or greatly unfair about it, the Devs can always tweak the way the system works instead of removing it as the first option.

hushed pendant
#

I think they are a great idea and the majority of ppl want it in game and the Devs wouldn't just cancel something they already teased, so I see no reason for this post cl

lean flume
#

It is important for the devs to receive feedback from their existing community.

From both those who do and don't like that which is presented.

It highlights how people 'expect' things to go, and in what ways. This allows them to course adjust, if they should so choose.

While keeping in mind that they need to extrapolate information to cover the expected reception from the many more who haven't provided feedback, and how this overall impacts how they envision that things will go.

drifting dagger
#

Respawn tanks seem to be an interesting idea, although i cannot jump into conclusions since i have yet to experience it.... well everyone else. seeing is not enough to gather my thoughts about it

#

the thing that is unknown to us all is how do they exactly work and how it is executed in action

#

and with that, we wouldnt know how this mechanic harmonize the flow of the match in this game

#

so my best bet for now is....playing it first by the time the update comes out before making thoughts about it. thats where true experience comes instead of making conclusions without experiencing it owl_think

I don’t hate the idea, I just don’t like the fact that people are gonna 100% camp it.

I also think they should be disabled once under 15 people

Though, there's nothing wrong with that, I still think they need to improve their game design skills instead of hiding, tbh. They can't keep making the same mistakes repeatedly.

I feel like the respawn tank is a major change to the royale, though

I just hope the duos, squads player population doesn't go down

lofty horizon
#

I see it as a positive change, both new and veteran players can die to some of the most nonsensical things in this game, and with the way the trailer showed how the respawn will work i see it as a positive change. If you want to confirm kills you will have to push players away from the grave of their teammate, or chase the entire team. And you can grab the vial quickly and retreat into one of the many respawn tanks to bring back your friend into the game.

#

It will finally add something new to the way this game plays, which is what it needed the most, as it has gotten repetitive with the same formula for years.

as for the argument of people camping the respawn points... it's like fish in a barrel, same deal as the molecrate

it's not a random tree, bush, or lootpile coming to life with a shotgun, it's a location that screams for attention like the molecrate
