In this first picture, the first picture is being displayed properly. In the second picture, the second image is not being displayed properly. I can't for the life of me figure out why this is happening.

have u tried 2-2.jpeg

#

that's the only thing majorly different than the first fig

vast aurora
#

It makes no difference. The only reason the extension is missing is because I was wondering if the extension itself was the issue.

forest summit
#

what does 2-2 look like

vast aurora
#

The actual image?

forest summit
#

yes, just dotting all i's and dashing all t's

#

what i'm wondering here is

  1. what if the image itself is unsound -> regenerate figure 2-2
  2. what if it's the pdf previewer of the editor -> try viewing from another pdf viewer

I don't think it got the names across. The one with the anime girls is 2-1, while the "where the magic happens" is 2-2.

forest summit
#

the image itself is not a problem shrug

vast aurora
#

Didn't figure it was the image itself.

#

You're thinking it may be the editor?

forest summit
#

i don't know what else, i cannot replicate your output

vast aurora
#

Hmm. Do you have any editor suggestions? Has to run locally for security reasons, preferably on Linux and Windows.

forest summit
#

depends on what you're comfortable with tbh

#

the one I used above is texstudio (heavily stripped)

vast aurora
#

TexMaker is the only editor I've ever used. Got introduced to it in college.

#

So I'm open to suggestions.

#

Putting together a project for work, and I'd rather not do it in Word

forest summit
#

i mean there's not a short supply of editors out there

vscode is one, vim on the other end

vast aurora
#

Wait, what? VSCode has a LaTeX editor?

forest summit
#

yes!

#

quite good and extensive actually

#

James-Yu.latex-workshop is the one

vast aurora
#

Huh. I'll give it a look.

#

Mixed feelings on VSCode

forest summit
#

this is why i'm always cautious about recommending editors

#

everyone has a beef on every editor

vast aurora
#

I don't have beef with the editor itself. Actually like the idea.

#

Extension support has been a gamble, and it seems to like promoting horrible ones for whatever reason.

#

tbh, VSCode is one of the two things Microsoft has done that I don't hate.

forest summit
#

well the one i recommended has 36 million downloads and has 4.8 rating

vast aurora
#

36M? The one I'm seeing has 3.5M

forest summit
#

36M downloads
3.5M installs

vast aurora
#

oh

#

My bad

#

That's the one I grabbed

forest summit
#

give it a go

vast aurora
#

Erroring out.

forest summit
#

If you post the error we can work it out together

vast aurora
#

I'm making sure everything is up to date first.

#

This PopOS install has been cursed.

vast aurora
#

I don't know how much use this wall of text is.

#

I feel like I may be missing something.

#

I'll mess with it more tomorrow.

wheat snow
#

hmm. is the second image a webp or something?

#

image viewers can be a lot more lenient about formats and extensions etc.

#

I think the reason VS code was throwing those errors is because I don't have TeX Live installed.

vast aurora
#

I got TeX Live installed (I think?), but I still can't get that VS Code pluging generate anything

vast aurora
#

I'm giving up on this approach. This should have taken 5 minutes tops, and I'm 3 hours in.

vast aurora
#

After installing TexStudio and getting a slightly different but still incorrect result, I'm forced to conclude that there's some fundamental flaw with the rendering engine. I'm going to give up on LaTeX for now and check back in another ten years to see if it's ready for production use.
