There are other reasons that you may be getting that error on the console

I just connected again my Wii U after months, 1 hour ago i joined on splatoon without problems, then i got an internet error code (mi wifi is bad) so i tried to connect my phone wifi and when i tried to log in on Splatoon i had to use my password

Go to System Settings > Internet, edit your hotspot connection, and make sure that its Primary DNS and Secondary DNS are the same as for your home connection

If in doubt, set the primary DNS to 88.198.140.154 and the secondary to 9.9.9.9.

By default, the DNS on a newly created connection is set to auto obtain, which makes it connect to Nintendo Network instead of Pretendo, hence your Wii U asking you to re-enter your password even though it should be correct.
