So, when is the disconnect occurring? At the very start of matches or in-between?

More than likely it's simply an issue with your Internet. Try again later or contact your Internet provider.

If the disconnect occurs at the start of every match, it may not have to do with unstable Internet at all; it may simply be a memory mismatch.

Have you tried playing the game without mods?

Hmm... this can mean one of a few things:

Your Internet really is unstable.
Your Wii U's Wi-Fi chip is failing.
Some other unknown reason.

To try to remedy this, check and make sure other devices, like a Nintendo Switch, for example, can use Internet without issue. If other devices are having issues, contact your ISP. You may need to purchase a Wii LAN Adapter and use Ethernet. If you're still having issues, then I'm at a loss.
