Depends from the ban

The FC ban is just your friend code and you can change it like you said (with this ban Miiverse still works). Blocking this might not be possible since the friend code is not tied to your system files as you can roll a new one

The console ban, it's the same as Nintendo, localfriendcodeseed being banned, but Pretendo extends it to PNID functionalities, meaning you cant use Miiverse at all. Also checks as 002 0150 were implemented so if you try to do those "NN bypasses" it wont work

Someone changed a banned FC just fine recently, they are playing again without hacks

This is also based on what ashquarky and Celestine said, first one is an account ban on Wii U or FC ban on 3DS, the second offense will be a console ban

Friend codes aren’t actually assigned. Your friend code is your NEX (game server) account PID with a checksum. The only time a new PID is assigned is when a new NEX account is being made. Which only occurs in 2 instances

• when a PNID is made (since those have NEX accounts tied to them)
• when a 3DS makes a request to NASC containing a password field and missing the PID/PID hmac fields. Since that’s the request a 3DS makes when it lacks an act save file

You can’t “roll a new friend code” without literally making a new NEX account, which yes is possible as it’s intended design and is no different than making a new PNID when an old PNID is banned

You can’t just “roll a new friend code” that’s not how it works because your FC isn’t a thing you control. Obviously if you change your PID (which is saved in your act save file) to another valid PID it will obviously work like normal, because that’s no different than just using new valid creds already

If it’s what I think it is then there’s no real way to change it. Since at that point an account ban would be the same as a console ban and you’d be unable to do things like buy a used 3DS, factory reset it, and then play online again

This is nothing new, and is exactly how PNID bans have also worked since the beginning. The difference is that the 3DS doesn't use PNIDs to go online, they just use game server accounts for nearly all titles (which are silently registered on the server by the console whenever it detects that it doesn't have a valid account in it's save file, like during the first startup of a fresh console or after a factory reset). Because that's the nature of having an account based platform. This is really no different than literally any other platform which issues account bans (online games like RS, sites like Twitter, etc. They all allow you to just make a new account), and no they are not "useless". They help build cases against people and serve was effective warnings in a large amount of cases (especially since on the 3DS it's far more involved than on the Wii U, where you just have to make a new PNID). There are plenty of cases where an account ban has resulted in the user not breaking anymore rules

Calling them "useless" is just disingenuous and negative for no real reason. The alternative is an immediate full blown console ban, which prevents other forms of legitimate usage by going nuclear right from the start (person A breaks the rules one time, gets full console banned, sells console, person B buys it, it's useless even after a factory reset)

While it may work on the Wii U, I doubt it does on 3DS knowing how the "community" works sometimes. But again, I respect it. I did my part, voiced my concerns. I was not aware of this, that does sound very useful! Is this open source anywhere? And what all does it do, just trigger the error message? Something like that could be pretty useful for mass dumping error codes and messages

Currently nearly all of the error codes Bandwidth knows about came from scanning the MSBT files in each consoles relevant system module (ErrEula for the Wii U, I forgot which one for the 3DS). The MSBT files contained translated versions of the error codes and messages (though we only used the English ones originally), but those system modules seem to have lacked quite a few error codes/messages. @open wren has been trying to add more here https://github.com/PretendoNetwork/error-codes/pulls by manually getting them from other sources, but it's not a perfect process rn

We have no ETA for anything, ever really. We're still discussing how we even want to handle this, since Discourse isn't super great for this from what I understand. Eventually we will move this kind of thing to a separate ticketing solution, but we've been banging our heads agains the wall trying to decide on if we want to use something premade (like we did with Discourse) or roll our own. I've done some research into existing ticketing software and our options are ASS. They're either really expensive, can't be selfhosted, have terrible selfhosting instructions, don't allow for custom SSO (which is a huge thing we need, since we use PNIDs everywhere), look/function like ass, or generally don't fit well with what we need it to do (lack of features, too many features cluttering the UI, etc.)

I think eventually we're going to just roll our own tbh. @barren copper has an on-going suite of tools he's been making (https://neatojs.com), which we currently do use (we use his Guider tooling for https://developer.pretendo.network, and he's been working on a localization platform that we plan to use too once it's done). He mentioned briefly in another server thinking about doing ticketing too, but no hard plans were made on that front so that might never actually come (plus he's a busy guy and I won't bug him about it)
