If I try to exit the friends list, most of the time it ends up freezing my wii u but still plays the background music. Does it do it for anyone else?

Freezing is interesting though. Your NAND could be on its way out, check out the homebrew app called wiiuident to see if you have a "hynix" chip, these are prone to failures. If you do, I suggest making a full nand backup in case it stops working, because then you'll be able to use cemu at least. It could also be due to overheating (unlikely), but it's worth checking the fan on the wii u and blowing it out with compressed air if possible

Yeah I was going with the assumption that they didn't have custom music. But that's worth checking too

i have the regular friends list, everythings normal in it except pretendo

so its kind of confusing

Also

i do kind of think my wii u is on its way to its final power on before death

because the disc drive has started malfunctioning very badly

the only disc it reads anymore is splatoon

in very rare cases it reads others

Yeah that sounds like the case
I believe it doesn't function properly without a disc drive, or at least if it can't do what it wants to with it

this happened constantly with everybody who used wii u instead of cemu like 10 months ago with only pretendo, it might be a outdated inkay? or just the wii u being on it's last limb. 10 months later and my toshiba mlc is still going strong.
