i have the same issue when trying to create an account via wiiu, if you created an account via the website you have to click on i already have an account on your wiiu
But i ran into an issue where i can't use the miiverse alternative

as stated create a new user on the pretendo website and click on i already have an account on wiiu and do what the wiiu is telling you, idk why but you can't create an account on your wiiu for pretendo if region is set to other countries except NA

on your wiiu you have to press l+down dpad+select/-
you will now see a menu pop up
go to Inkay, and then to BOSS setting and change the current state
