i downloaded custom badges through GYTB and set them up and when i switched to Pretendo they were gone i still have them all in a folder on my computer but its mildly inconvenient

this will be our leading theory. just a one-off bug that allowed them to stay on both profiles until the NNID connection got established

i’m gonna keep performing different tests to see if i can make the badges stick on both profiles again at all, maybe i can recreate it perfectly again and we can test some stuff out before they disappear from the PNID side

Btw, Nintendo is lying to you - you can reformat a larger card from exFAT to FAT32 and it'll still work fine unless you exceeed 128GB - it's just a bit slower

If you run GYTB in Pretendo with your pngs in the badges folder on your SD, it should recreate all the badges on Pretendo's side. I say "should" because what's happening right now (i.e. badges staying on both profiles somehow, then not doing that ever again) is making me question my reality.
Also, if you want the sets back, you'd better have made a backup of the "sdmc:/Nintendo 3DS/<ID0>/<ID1>/extdata/00000000/000014d1" folder, because that's the only way to restore them now (other than redownloading them with Allbadge Tool, which you might not be able to do for much longer).

In theory, it shouldn't do anything, but a few people have claimed that their data's been corrupted "by Pretendo". While it isn't cerain whether or not PN is the culprit, I'd back up my SD card anyway just to be safe in case something does go wrong

Thing is, I'm not sure how you put specific badges into specific sets using ABE if you don't have a .cab file.

You will need: Advanced Badge Editor: https://github.com/AntiMach/advanced-badge-editor/releases/
Simple Badge Injector installed on your 3ds: https://github.com/AntiMach/simple-badge-injector/releases/

First of all: Your badges aren't wiped as long as you don't open badge arcade, or use any other tool. There is a NNID check, which will hide your badges, but not delete them.

Step 1: Switch to the Pretendo Network. Don't worry if your badges aren't there.

Step 2: Open up Simple Badge Injector (either via an installed app or the homebrew launcher, depending on how you installed it)

Step 3: From there, you should see something that says Your NNID: ABCD123. Note this down, it will be important soon. Also don't share this.

Step 4. Switch back to NNID (or wherever your badges are)

(optional step but recommended)
Step 4.5. Create a backup of your homemenu by going to the home menu settings button > Save/Load Layouts

Step 5. Reopen Simple Badge Injector

Step 6. Use the D-PAD and A button to move to Dump badge data, and select it.

Step 7. Turn off your 3ds, and put the SD Card in your computer (or you could use FTPD, that works too)

Step 8. Open the Advanced Badge Editor

Step 9. Click File > Open

Step 10. You can find the folder to open at (SD ROOT)/Badge Files/

Step 11. Wait for the loading to complete.

Step 12. From there you should see a textbox that says "NNID" This is where you put the NNID you noted down back at step 3. You didn't forget it did you?

Step 13. Press File > Save

Step 14. Reinsert your SD Card into your 3ds, and power it on.

Step 15. Switch to Pretendo or where you are switching to

Step 16. Reopen Simple Badge Injector.

Step 17. Select Inject Badge Data

Step 18. If everything worked right and i didn't forget anything you are done!

Optional: Restore your home menu layout to bring back badge layout

Restoring Nintendo Badge Arcade Badges

1. Insert your SD Card into your PC.
2. Back up your badges at the folder on your SD Card SD:Nintendo 3DS/ID0/ID1/extdata/00000000/000014d1.
3. Download Simple Badge Injector.
4. Insert your SD Card into your console.
5. Use Nimbus to switch to Pretendo.
6. Open Simple Badge Injector and make a note of the "Nintendo Network ID" value.
7. Still inside SBI, choose the option to dump your badge data files.
8. Turn off your 3DS and remove the SD card. Insert your SD card into your PC.
9. Download and open Advanced Badge Editor.
10. Go to File > Open Data, then choose the folder where BadgeData.dat and BadgeMngFile.dat are.
11. Replace the NNID value with the one you made a note of in SBI earlier.
12. Select Save As to save the modified file separately from the backup.
13. Put your SD card back into your 3DS and go back into SBI
14. Inject your modified badge data files.
    If you encounter any errors, restore your backed up badge data through SBI. Injecting badges while using Pretendo Network will make them disappear when swapping back to Nintendo Network, and vice versa.

I injected fresh badges from ABE into my NNID tonight, and tested switching to PNID to see if they would show up in that profile or disappear. they stayed on the home screen and in the badge drawer on the PNID profile. additionally, they actually DISAPPEARED from the NNID side, and still remain on the PNID side after switching profiles and restarting the 3DS multiple times. i’ve left it alone for now and shut off the 3DS while logged into the NNID profile, and will check again tomorrow if the badges are still on the PNID side. if they are, i’ll run whatever tests you guys want to see how the badges are affected

I have a couple questions about this guide. I've backed up my 3DS' SD card about half way through the CFW installation. Can I recover my badges from this? What does <ID0> and <ID1> mean? Can I install the Simple Badge Injectr without taking my SD card out using FTPD?

when opening my 3DS, it said I was only on streetpass, which meant my internet connection wasn’t working. after checking in system settings, i noticed on the PNID side that i had been somehow logged out of my PNID.
I logged back in, and the badges were removed. which might explain why the badges showed up on the PNID side to begin with, but doesn’t explain why they were removed from the NNID profile

regardless, i took the badge dump from SBI before logging back into my PNID, and it shows the NNID is “0” on ABE

now that i’m logged back into the PNID, i’m going to re-inject the badges on the NNID side and run the profile-switch test again to see if they disappear from anywhere

switched profiles, badges are not on PNID side. leading theory so far is that the reason those badges stayed last night is because I was logged out of the PNID, which means the system had no ID to run against the badge ID and just left them alone

I think the PrincipalID is different depending on whether or not your 3DS is currently "logged in" to Nintendo/Pretendo Network or logged out, which is something that can happen independently of whichever profile you're in on 3DS due to you not needing to be logged in to go online for anything except Miiverse & a few other things, e.g. you can be in your Pretendo profile without being logged in to your PNID - if you're logged out, I think it's always "00000000" like earlier, and if you're logged in, it should give you a unique number... I think.

That would also explain why they vanished after you logged in - your badges were set to ID 0, but logging in changed the ID. (It'd be interesting to see what value SBI tells you in Pretendo now.)

This part probably happened because BadgeMngFile.dat had your at-the-time Pretendo ID of 00000000 (i.e. in Pretendo but signed out of PNID), so they temporarily showed up in Nintendo like before because you injected them in Nintendo, then you switched to Pretendo and they stayed.

Perhaps the only reason why they permanently carried across to your Pretendo profile that one time was because the ID didn't update due to some sort of bug with Nimbus, and you were still able to connect to MK7 without it stopping you/changing your details because 3DS games don't actually use your NNID/PNID details like Wii U games do. The next time you switched to Nintendo and then Pretendo again, the PrincipalID updated correctly and your badges vanished - I now doubt it had anything to do with opening Badge Arcade.

I think this github issue might explain why you got logged out that time:

A bit like I'd guessed, it seems like Nimbus will sometimes swap most things over successfully when switching over to your Pretendo profile, but will keep your NNID on instead of your PNID.

The reason I'm guessing this happened to you is that 1. it would back up that thing I said about why your badges were allowed to stay on both profiles at once: #1227137764529803294 message

And 2. it might explain why you got logged out of your PNID - it tried to log into your NNID instead.

As for why your badges disappeared, I expect what happened is that something - either MK7, rapid profile swapping, or both - reset your BadgeMngFile.dat, then running GYTB in that state wiped your BadgeData.dat file:

I was able to transfer my badge

To get the ligit one I backed up my hacked 3ds stuff then put in my normal 3ds backup. Ran finalize again to get the FBI app to install SBI. After that I got my badge dump that I was able to modify to the PNID

And i put back the hacked 3ds to how it was from the hacked 3ds backup

its a compromise you have to accept

NVM I brought it back its just really tidious

You have to put the TIDLow but you have to export all of the badges 1 by one as images and make sure the name change applies the TIDLow when saving. It removed sorting

But I have a back up if all my badges and am back to how my home screen was, hopefully functionality is fixed soon for native data.
