The dog log (heh) isn't as much of a rabbit hole as it's made out to be, imo. To me, it seems more like a casual conversation to let someone know about the going ons outside of the (metaphorical) concrete prison that is Garganta. It shows a side of humanity that we can relate to that isn't intense research woes.

In phoenix point there is a DLC faction called "The Pure".
Their shtick was that they were once humans, but augmented themselves to the point that nothing organic was left and they believed that this was the only way to win, because Pandoravirus specifically fucks and mutates everything organic, so they were like "right, if nothing organic is left - then we win by default" and that's how The Pure were created.
Unfortunately something about going full cyborg really screws with their psyche, so they just ended up being murder hobos harrasing everyone for their organic inferiority.

We know that NAM-V has reached the surface starting in Florida. It's made its way to Manchester, England, and is probably in a number of other places by that time.
The WHO is still broadcasting emergency messages in 2057, and they're apparently looking for the origin of the virus in that log. Apparently people are avoiding infection through stringent isolation.

Based on what we've seen so far, the logs seem to imply that sleepers are not on the surface yet. It seems like the parasite is probably what's responsible for sleepers, and NAM-V is just a particularly virulent disease.

Oh, the 2055 log (new) and the 2057 log are a bit conflicting. It seems like things might be okay, albeit with very extreme lockdown protocols, or it might be the case that the situation is increasingly deteriorating and society is on the verge of collapse.
Either way, it seems like it's a slow burn, it's just unclear if things are fairly stable or if there's a pretty steady decline.

Tbh, a permanent training tool/tutorial has been pretty needed for a long time.
One of those features that makes the game a bit more casual but has always been "yeah, that's fair."
Especially when the game is so esoteric that a lot of game knowledge had to be datamined back in R1.
Took more than 5 months for anyone to come up w/ methods of getting weapon damage or enemy health by any other method (Friendly Fire).
I wouldn't expect them to go over stuff like enemy health or weapon damage in a tutorial though. I'd expect a short level with some guided stealth and some setup for an easy alarm. I feel like a lot of the important stuff would be tricky to tutorialise without it being awkward or immersion breaking. (enemy spawning rules for example)
I think tool usage is probably the only thing that needs teaching though really, in my opinion everything beyond that should be for the player to figure out.
