yep
Oh. oh my goodness.
People are speculating that the Mimic is a neonate grown up, which it seems possible (I am currently not convinced though)
From just that first audio log, it seems like the uh.. Sleepers might be getting towards more sentient behavior? Though the friend thing is interesting.
In R3 we resuscitated the Neonate HSU, opened it, and then hooked it up to a neural frame, and left it there.
It's not a sleeper! But one can make a small connection there.
So... we put a baby in essentially Mr. House's control pod?
well we don't really know what the neural frame does. It sticks a large needle into what ever you hook up to it. We think it reads/ writes DNA.
Technically it was Losty, but we contributed a little.
More or less. It's not a legitimate "baby" but more a young mass of flesh.
Ooh that's spooky. What if The Mimic was that Neonyte after being NEEDLED
It kinda looks like a baby though?
Yeah, I guess it does to an extent?
Ah, I've been deceived then
It does have limbs! I'll give ya that!
Deceived myself.
It happens to the best of us.
Well, it's got a heartbeat! So it's... something, that's for sure.
Decent blood pressure too.
Also, when you reach a new level (like B1 and B2) are those two missions assumed to happen at the same time? If so, does The Warden have multiple sets of prisoners?
they are not really assumed to happen at the same time. the warden does have multiple sets of prisoners though. Schaeffer used to be one, but his entire team died and he decided not to get back into his HSU pod.
Oh that's neat. So he's just chilling out in the facility now?
That's why hes just wandering around the complex and leaving us messages.
Does he just have... plot armor?
Or did he take every tool from his dead teammates and start runnin around
yea lol, I think he does. He just sneaks around through the vents to get around though.
Stealing all the medipacks I need, dangit.
And killing arguably the most interesting guy yet!
What good has this Schaeffer fellow done?
In CX, we find his hideout and it appears that he's starting to make a plan to retaliate against the Warden.
Oh yikes!
Is there like.. a reason? Or is he just generally upset his comrades in arms died.
Cause the Warden seems chill at the moment.
I'd say he's starting to put the plan into motion though, since we already learn about his plan back in R5C3
Well he does not want to be a prisoner anymore. He knows there are other groups as well. I guess he just wants to help everyone escape.
Seems a bit selfish though. What with all the spooks in the complex that are being handled by the prisoners.
well the warden keeps a ton of people captive and sends them to die.
I personally think the warden might be doing this stuff for a good reason, for example, trying to find a cure for NAM-V
Compared to what I've read in other logs? it doesn't really seem like it'd be better if they were allowed free
yea actually that's a good point.
they don't get to see the light of day though, they don't even really get to eat.
a pretty sucky life
but a life on the surface might be worse
I find it funny that after we initiate the Influx Protocol to "reactivate" the sleeping KSO's, then 1.0 drops and we see a lot of new players joining, as if they were the sleeping KSOs we woke up in R5E1
lol
Ah, yes. I'm part of the new sleeper guy program.
Hope you had a good nap
Honestly I needed the sleep
Alright, reading up on Rundown five it does seem like The Warden is at least trying to keep its prisoners alive? With the "okay yikes sector loss better get outta here fellas"
true. the warden will do whatever it takes to complete its objective though.
there are literally missions where we are used as distractions for parallel objectives.
I mean, it's a robot, right? At this point (where we seem to be the SPEC OPS units of prisoners) I feel it's more a calculated risk.
Give the guys who are actually good at pointing rifles the distraction job while letting lower skill guys work with reduced threat.
yea the WRDN is a modified version of BIOCOM, a decision intelligence. It is possible for humans to be involved though, because we have many logs describing people overseeing BIOCOM and modifying its objective stacks.
And.. is the BIOCOM the one that runs the facility, and the WRDN is an outside entity trying to gain access?
Also, someone had to create WRDN and inherit BIOCOM's code
yea BIOCOM's servers are located within KDS deep. We don't know if WRDN is outside or inside the complex, or when it came to be.
iirc we still don't know.
KDS deep is where those bunch of HSU pods were, right? That brought in an influx of new prisoners?
yes
yea, from the 2018 trailer. I do think there are humans involved.
true.
Neat.
its not like the complex has conveyor belts that could transport the neonate to wherever it was imprinted at. (its unlikely, but not impossible though.)
Maybe another team got orders to deal with it?
Do we ever hear what happened to the leaders that basically ran the entire project/garganta?
yea that's possible
I'm assuming "dead, dead, and triple dead" are pretty good guesses, but I'm just as clueless as you.
This whole facility was an iridium mine, yeah?
no, we don't know what happened to them. Im sure some of them survived though. Especially is Schaeffer did.
Wait, I thought Schaeffer was a prisoner?
started as an Iridium mine, became a research facility.
he actually was an employee, C tier clearance. He was a pit boss.
If there's a possibility they're alive, they could be one of the people "being" the warden ๐
listen to these logs, they describe Schaeffer before he got into the wardens hands.
๐ Rip Andrew/Anders
Wait... if Schaeffer is just crawling around in the vents, what is he eating?
Or drinking, for that matter.
I mean there is water in a lot of places, and hes probably eating the plants in the floodways
Or finding some leftovers that aren't expired yet ๐คทโโ๏ธ
Though idk what isn't expired by now.
So was Schaeffer released when we opened up KDS deep? And if not, how'd he get out early?
Interesting. So who busted him out?
Might explain why he's a bit.. odd, yeah?
Maybe he didn't shutdown his HSU all the way.
He was around before KDS deep was activated, which raises a lot of questions for discussion.
It's not that, it's a discrepancy
He went into KDS deep to find any Kovac still around. They were all sleeping. To avoid the sleepers in the adjacent zones, he shut the doors and for some unknown reason, they wouldn't open back up
He is there for a while, and starts to starve to death. To avoid this, he enters an HSU
Problem is, WRDN doesn't have access to this part of gargana until the end of R5.
But Schaeffer, post KSOification breaks away from his squad in r4
Long before he could have even awoken. HSUs essentially induce a medical coma, and even if he did wake, he would have starved to death in KDS deep.
Personally I think the Allens had something to do with it, but we literally have no idea how his HSU got out of there and into a place the wrdn could find and access it to assign him to his squad.
What's an Allen?
Temporary name for the hyper advanced species of aliens that made the matter wave projector, artifacts, and sent the meteor to earth
We know very little about them.
The aliens made the matter wave projector? It looked man-made just with a chunk of spacerock stuffed into it.
Huh.
Project insight made a shell for it to socket it into their teleporters based on Allen tech, but the internals of the device are entirely foreign to humanity.
Ah, gotcha.
The data cubes we collect in c1 are also, entirely of allen origin.
They socket into the WMP and alow it to teleport to a specific location in space faster than light.
Specifically, it would appear Destination, (where we get teleported to in a1, c1, d1, cx, and dx) is in the butterfly nebula, 3 thousand light-years away from earth
This specifically, was determined rather recently when coordinates from a pre-6.5 log on the santonian industries website had a cipher that I cracked. Rayalot and others narrowed down the coordinates to the Mid-Atlantic ridge,
And someone, I forgot (again) who, used the coordinates on a star chart and found them to be exact for the center of this nebula
There's a santonian industries website?
Homepage of SANTONIAN Industries, strategic investors group.
Occasionally.
If you are interested in learning the lore, I have an in-depth summary in the pins here.
MzcgMzcgMjAgMzggMzQgMjAgMzkgMzkgMjAgMzEgMzAgMzMgMjAgMzcgMzcgMjAgMzggMzQgMjAgMzcgMzcgMjAgMz
Was the log that started with this the cipher you cracked? Or is it just gibberish.
Yes.
Ooh, that's fun. How'd you figure it out?
I ran it through base64
And we got sets of two didget numbers that had been used In a previous cipher
From there, it was easy for others familiar with that past cipher
For me, after the C# and Base64 part, I was completely fucking useless and clueless, lol
To be accurate
It's not in the mid Atlantic ridge
We're between it and Cabo Verde Plateau
And I was the one to link it with the butterfly Nebula, it lines up to the exact digit
I love that it works the same way as terminals
"This, of course, is all moot pending Rise, but who knows how long that will be.
At some point Iโd like to address the auditory response irregularity noted in my previous report. While the short
-term solution is to simply offer ear protection for operatives who are overly sensitive to certain frequencies,
Iโd like to put together a team to research the problem. Let me know."
Rise program expected to make KSO quads redundant?
and what is the auditory response problem in KSO's?
Rise seems to be the program to do with creating sleepers(?) that listen to commands(?)
Or at least a variant of them which they control(?)
RISE more seems like creating blank slate bodies that could host BIOCOM functionality, to me.
As far as the auditory response issue, no clue. Lmao.
personally i think rise is about working out the neonate
sensitivity to certain frequencies is unusual
Especially since the name RISE, to me, suggests attempting to transcend the limits of our bodies
"September 3rd 2050" message referring to RISE program dated here
Very early on they were looking at this
Or you know... Just rise in a basic sense. Becoming fleshed out.
I don't think it's a coincidence that DX is titled Ascent
It would actually make sense for them to try and replace us with blank clones.
Ascending the final complex.(?)
in order of terminals(?)
RISE leads us to the neonate which we have clues of working as a host for mental imprinting, and Ascend, being where we find it
Too many issues with brainwashing unstable inmates. Ability to just create blank droids for Warden to control is a win all fronts and frankly far less ethically problematic than what they do to us.
and kill it tho
Plus mentioned in message about the 'faults' of KSO's appearing under extended duress
They do have to consider the possibility of us going rogue or God forbid realising what happened to them.
Bishop in particular will be very unhappy once he comes to his senses.
There's an old lady out there who needs a bullet
Woods and Hackett though might not care...
Anyone got a time frame for when the Sleepers first appeared? I know infected miners were being referred to as stoopers early on. But I can't seem to find exactly when first appearance was scene or any incident?
Speaking of KSO faults; I've always found it curious that in all of the logs about KSOs, and in the case of Bishop for the Expedition logs, directly referencing KSO personalities as just robots that can't really think for themselves and yet our characters very much question what's going on and talk among themselves
approx the end of 2053 iirc
So around the time of the first teleportations?
they'd have no need to plan for such, since hypothetically we have lost our memories and can't exactly do much
There seems to be a change in the characters before rundowns started and after
that and the neural cortexes
@serene fractal I noticed that discrepancy too. Either it's a plothole, or Warden eased up on the mind wiping procedure to not accidentally wipe out our tactical capabilities and skills.
i don't remember there being a date assigned to when project insight started working with teleportation
No plot hole, its covered in one of the emails
basically after prolonged combat the KSO's become less robotic and more emotional as their previous personalities return to them under extreme stress. This is why they wanted the RISE program, and also why we see our characters change from before when they were doing nothing but patrols and escorts, to being constantly fighting sleepers
that does see viable
we know that memory loss is only a side effect of HSUs that was abused, so it wouldn't be perfect
It was noted that memories started to become shared between prisoners in the HSU's, waking up with other peoples memories in your head etc
Shafer mentioned it at one point
which log exactly?
I don't remember that at all
A BX or CX one, but also in A1 I think
I remember an audio log where they were talking with Woods and voicing concerns that his "old behaviour patterns" were coming back.
there seemed to be issues with him trying to sort out which memories was his
Also do we have anything on the failed space expedition?
Problems with the whole crew waking up from HSU with no memories resulting in catastrophe
From what I understand the crew lost their memories and... Just went insane and started killing each other? Or what?
Failed to maintain the ship?
Unknown
I'm not sure about killing each other
All we know is that the ship worked fine, and yet it crashed
All we have is what the logs told us. I have a fairly crack pot theory that not a lot of folks agree with, and anecdotal evidence to back it up.
but considering space ships, negligence can result in big problems
The only problem I have with the blanket statement of what the log tells us is that muscle memory isn't forgotten, and generally if you're a pilot for anything, you'd have the muscle memory of what you need to do.
That's why KSOs are still effective combatants.
Mars.
huh
That space mission, Red Alpha, was years before Garganta.
a couple month trip right
It's always the space expedition that makes the beginning of the end...
and KSO's spend waaaay longer in HSU
The TL;DR of my crack pot theory is that there was outside interference, which ties in to my theory on outside interference with why Dr. Durant's team was left to die.
Either an early iteration of BIOCOM, or some other variant of suggestive directive.
I think Durants team was left due to teething problems with the temporal regulators
Outside interference would explain some things.
Though outside interfertence with the probes coordinates may also be a valid theory given that Durant directly mentions it
Can't blame everything on incompetence...
it seemed more so hinted towards sabotage
I have a theory pinned called Jansen x Gustavo, but it's kind of a stretch theory.
And also how there is weirdness with B1 forming a direct link with Destination and allowing the Floaters thorugh
It goes into detail of why I think foul play is the reasoning.
since durant listed off all the possible causes of complete connection loss to garganta, but then stopped and completely denied something else happening
that's a bit more into why it could be foul play, since now everything is fine
and it was even open to the point that flyers poured out, spread throughout the facility, until we closed it
DX is titled ascent because of the staircase of death lmao
could be both tho
Good writing often hides double meaning within things
-> points at the discrepancy
squidward?
We think they're aliens, I believe
Dead space style "everything fused into one"?
Frost knows
think if it like the equivalent of a big infected whale
Infestation ate the whole planet?
Lifeforms that naturally inhabit Destination.
man imagine a sleeper shark
not really
it's just one huge infected individual
though it appears to be aquatic, so the air bladders that allow it to fly are entirely the parasite's doing
some huge ocean creature, given it's size and biology, repurposed by the parasite to fly
maybe the floaters are babies of the species
it's possible it was infected thousands of years ago or maybe millions,
when oceans were larger on destination, before it is the desert it is now in the region.
negatory
Iโm getting dead space 3 vibes from this
darn
they have completely different physiology
if anything, it looks like the parasite is using the kraken as essentially an aircraft carrier for these other species
genetically that wouldn't make sense, since the change from being able to shoot projectiles and floating, to being a bipedal life form, using its intestines to attack, wouldn't make any sense
Ah, I meant babies of the kraken species
Air bladders? Are those on the backside or something?
one the parasite has access to a species, EVERYTHING in it's genetic database is at it's disposal
the tumors. after you pop them, it falls to its death
Sounds like the flood from halo
Kraken is to floater as Mother is to baby was the thought I had in mind
I just figured they were, well, tumors. They were the only weak point at it died from us shooting it
I guess they could be air bladders though? Seem a little small for something that big
Yep
the kraken?
Also air bladders are usually on the inside of fish
to a degree.
oh don't get me started on how the kraken doesn't comply with physics
indeed,
if they made it a worm, sure it makes sense, but it floats
which causes so many issues
though it wouldn't make sense otherwise for it to immediately plummet after us breaking enough of them.
it wouldn't be supported by them, since then it would start falling faster and faster the more we break
yes, but this isn't nature. this is the parasite manipulating something already there to suit its needs. humans' heads aren't 90% mouth IRL
I mean, it could be doing something to keep itself afloat we just don't understand considering that big tentacles balls are also capable of flight. And killing it would just make it fall
so they don't supported, it specifically floated down somehow to leave
gameplay mechanic? it floats around the arena while fighting it
Would be cool if that boss fight went different. Instead of shooting weak points we had to use another means of killing it
imagine them as tails on animals, they can support itself up (very very hard but possible technically)
it didn't float down, that fucker FELL. i just replayed d1 with randos
I'm not sure I'm convinced that those were doing anything to keep it floating, I think it just stops being able to do...whatever it does to float once we kill it and it falls. I'll accept it as a possibility though
it definitely is a gameplay mechanic, but i will nitpick on every part of the game if it doesn't make sense from a realistic standpoint
the Schaeffer discrepancy is a far bigger issue from a realistic standpoint, imo
there was that time that the drop crane/elevator at the start of the game made me have an aneurysm
but after checking the details, it made sense accounting for the laws of physics
We don't have all of the info yet so I don't know if I would call it a writing discrepancy yet. A hole in the timeline though? absolutely
IMHO kraken design was kinda ridiculous
(even g forces which is a big good job on 10Cs part)
such stuff as that have happened before
schaeffer also didn't make sense before r6
schaeffer being out of hsu in r4 when KDS deep was sealed until r5
thats a major plot hole
if we can find it that easily, and they haven't done anything about it, it's safe to assume it's on purpose
It cannot be declared a plot hole until we have all of the info, something very well could have happened prior. It is however, a hole in our timeline that we should pay attention to
it's not prior, it's post prior
it's post kso-ificiation
in r4d1, it's the log about his squad dying
Isn't that during the fall though?
the date of the log doesnt matter, it's that it was written and we find it before wrdn has access to kds deep
The date of the log absolutely matters?
not at all
it's r4
but could only happen naturally past r5.
so something very unusual must have happened
canonically, the rundowns are in order.
it's that 4 is before 5 that is the problem
something got his pod from KDS deep into a place where WRDN could access it at minimum an entire rundown before WRDN has us open KDS deep
But wasn't the log in question from the beginning of Garganta falling?
if not WRDN and his teams, then WHO?
no
I must be thinking of the new one
this is the log with his team dying and him rebelling. he says "fuck the warden" in this log aswell
Dead space 1 final boss looked more realistic, as snake like structure of pure muscles I can imagine being able to support such a creature.
Kraken is weird. It's like a giant stiff log pointing at the sky. It makes no sense.
Unless it was only a small bit of it, with main body hiding in the fog...
its not, we can see it's entire structure.
Hmmm
looking down over the cliff, you can see the ends of it's tentacles
Makes me think of giraffe beetle
The floaters themselves don't make any more or less sense to me than the kraken so I'm alright with it ๐คท
you must remember, alien life, is completely alien to us
Meatball magic
that might neccessarily even be carbon based
Alien life is bound by laws of physics still too
they can fly, teleport, and seemingly do so for an infinite amount of time
Keep in mind that our laws of physics aren't absolutes. ๐
Seemingly every year we seem to "break the laws of physics" in one way or another.
Also it's science fiction and we have the MWP. I'm willing to suspend disbelief for some floaties
yeah, especially when they rotate on the y axis
looks so weird to see them turning like that
Then again artifacts are a thing as well
Perhaps they ate one or another and now it pets then levitate
given a hydraulic press SHATTERED, i don't think eating them is the trick
the floaters seem to ingest the crystals found on destination
The black crystals right?
crystals =/= artifacts
They are very sus, but so far nothing on them...
the artifacts are creations by the allens for unknown purpose, other than they are nigh unbreakable
So, where do you think this is going? Lovecraftian planet eating horrors, bio weapon out of control, just a very hostile predatory species that aliens had bad luck with?
realistically, it is either native to destination, arrived at destination the same way it arrived at earth, or the allens created it in a lab and it got out of control (mega covid)
who knows. allen tech is absolutely ridiculously advanced.
Wanted to quickly bring an idea to the table; the tan skinned sleepers are an oddity due to how no sunlight reaches the depths of Garganta. The ones we encounter on Destination share this same tan skin.
Therefore, could it he possible the tan skinned sleepers are a result of the harsh sun of Destination, and have somehow found their way back to Garganta as the flyers have?
negatory.
the portal for the fliers to get through was only let open by our team in b1
and closed in d1
if they appeared before r6, the answer is it cannot have been the case.
chargers are the opposite in terms of pigmentation to the regular sleepers
oh, he is talking about chargers?
they have too much pigmentation, leading to the black colour
chargers are a completely different variant
yes
No, I meant the tan wave sleepers. Although I now see my point is void.
we never see chargers on destination though
well i mean garganta has greenhouses,
maybe they got locked in the hothouse for too long
or they could just be of a darker natural skin color
oh the ones we see in BX with the slight tan
i remember now
i don't.
those are probably the personnel of those locations
since alpha 3 is an entire facility
and knowing that they have a lot of genetic code from us, it's safe to assume that the tan is like human's
wait, do we never complete our main objective in dx?
immediately after finding s22 we leave
and didn't we already get the genome data in d1?
why would we need to download it again?
the only genome that matters is nam-v
it's a bit late to find a cure for nam-v now.
Understanding the genetics of the aliens would be rather helpful too, I imagine
i suppose, but honestly it isn't anything concrete
Honestly I figured that's what the goal of D1 was, not for NAM-V
the only specimens we have seen are infected, and thus mutated by the parasite
Is anyone besides Warden and our guys still alive even?
Or is it just us 5 left at gargsnta?
A lonely AI and 4 amnesiacs, desperately trying to do something
In some forgotten hole in the ocean
Btw is this why the elevator always so wet? Or is there a 24/7 rain or something?
there are storms constantly
unknown why
either we only drop when it rains or there actually are constant storms
geographically there wouldn't be storms always
but we don't know how the in-game earth in the 2060s or so is like
around the yucatan peninsula they have a rainy season, we could assume that maybe that's the season weve been dropping during?
possible, but we don't know at what time we play
currently it seems somewhere around late 2060s, early 2070s
or something similar at least
I just kinda figured it was 2060's climate change
possible, but we really don't have anything
thatd also be a possibility, based off the lore future earth is pretty different from how it is now
definitely much different
he means as in earth in the future
2060s
or something similar
yeah
no time travel involved
Considering that Santonian got clearance to build Garganta in the first place, methinks there are few to no environmental regulations left at the time
gtfo time period earth would be a better way to put it, I suppose
people were pissed, look at state of truth broadcast
there definitely are, they didn't build it just like that
in cx
also r5 state of truth
Yeah, people are pissed now too. Stuff is still happening though
the only way they did it is to bribe gustavo, some figure in power in the yucatan (politician?), by doing him a favour
basically nobody left alive to be pissed
No I mean irl. Everybody knows what we're doing to the planet, but there hasn't been all that much done to stop it
well no duh, everybody pushes it off as somebody else' problem
realistically speaking, nobody is ever going to do anything and earth is doomed
ironic
it's a self-fulfilling prophecy
nobody believes their impact would be enough to anything so nobody does anything
and it doesn't help with countries like the US and China pumping millions of tons of CO2 into the atmosphere
and then they say that it's the people's responsibility
one person going completely green for 70 years saves around 1 second of CO2 from the industrial sector
anyway
Mostly China... Then again what do we do? Go back to stone age? Good luck convincing people of that.
Wind / solar doesn't seem to be viable, and people are scared of nuclear at the same time.
Tidal power is the way to go honestly
the entire population of the US, that's 10 years
wind and solar are more than viable if actually invested into, nuclear is super efficient, almost no waste and super safe these days
tidal is too costly due to building infrastructure and maintaining it underwater
everybody is afraid of the next Chernobyl, and nuclear is extremely underfunded nowadays
true, hydropower is pretty reliable but solar is also pretty good too- especially when people use things like solar batteries so on a stormy day and at night you'll still have some extra power etc etc
also you can just run solar/wind since when it's sunny you can get a lot of solar and a bit of wind, then when it's cloudy or there is a storm, a bit of solar and a lot of wind
so there's always power
this is the entire population of china (1.39 billion)
it can also kill a lot of underwater wildlife who may wander into those powerplants and stuff
it isn't that hard of a problem to mitigate, but nobody wants to.
it's not about the people not wanting to, it's hard to do so
Individual responsibility helps, yes, but it is corporations who cause the problem
primarily,
it is really hard, it also depends on your area when talking about recycling and stuff
but even people themselves CAN help
precisely
it's much easier to remove the bigger part of the issue than weed out the smaller
why make everyone change their lifestyles when you can just make corporations change what they do
itd have more effect too, the problem is getting corporations to do it
honestly, nothing is going to stop these countries other than national revolt in the places they operate, and everyone knows that won't ever happen
it's human nature to doom ourselves.
that will happen someday
at least in the countries i'm familiar with
anyway, let's keep it more gtfo lore
real life lore is a bit boring
๐
the WRDN bot is still online
crazy
man I felt that ๐
I mean I'd say it is pretty hard, but yeah this is the lore channel.
Genome of parasite, genome of NAM-V, genome of the sleepers, genome of the aliens like floaters and such etc
even the genome of infected humans would be important as the proteomics of the sleepers is completely different from normal humans
On top of genomics the epigenome of the aliens, sleepers, and infected humans is important in understanding mRNA and protein expression changes and regulation
Gene expression changes in different stages of sleepers and different stages of aliens is also vital if you wanna grow your own
On top of all that, post-translational modifications and emergent interactions in-vivo are also fundamental in understanding what is going on in sleepers and the interactions of the parasite and NAM-V
I imagine the Warden has a lot of processing and simulations to do
which is probably why growing the neo-natal had such a low success chance and low stabilisation rate, the sheer amount of unknowns being worked through before you acquire the genome data is astronomical
๐ค

After the checkpoint?
That's an older log.
We've known about that one for a while.
"Are you a dog or a cat person?"
so what's new
R.I.P my boy the mimic
May he find his friend that like cats or dogs
The mimic could not mimic those hands
Lowkey thou, I am wondering how Schaeffe looks like
yeah
I thought 22 was new?
So 22 has been teased since 6.0 and not 6.5?
I don't think the dead looking body is the mimic bud
Why?
Does it look like its got ashy looking skin with blue vains?
did shafer describe it like that?
The neonate apparently
So the neonate got murked in DX in a bloody fist fight with somebody
Got shot
the cracked open skull and bloody handprints and stuff
Thats what losttyfrostty said
I thought they hadn't played dx yet?
Well i know someone said the thing got shot
Those who speak in this channel frequently
didn't look shot to me when I looked at it
Can i haves a picture pls
looked like someone had beaten its skull across the side of the door frame
not a gunshot hole
You played DX yet?
No don't plan on doing so
The thing got torn apart yet its still alive
Aww, it's pretty good
I don't think it got torn apart by the sleepers
I don't understand the meme tho haha
I know it triggered the scout but I assumed it got away like Shafer?
Thats what schaeffer said
Shafer didn't mention it being torn apart? I thought he was rambling about running away from it and abput what it wanted?
Being scared of it
I remember schaeffer saying it walked through sleepers they attacked it and then stopped
Why didn't it die then and there if the sleepers attacked it
Possibly because it was then infected with the parasite once they attacked and no longer saw it as threat?
Eh probably
Or saw it as a dysfunctional one of their own
If that was the mimic then its a big let down
Maybe
But I reckon the Warden will react to the death of 22 rather unfavourably
Yeah
probably will try more to get rid of Shafer
For all we got the thing
22 specimens
Yeah true
at least
Theres 22 of them
There was another image showing several mimic bodies somewhere
Didn't know the warden kept favourites
dead bodies that is
Oh yeah the mountain of dead bodys
Think this one was favoured because it had Wardens partial mind in it
Looks like he got stabbed by a pole lmao
Probably but we'll see what happens in R7
I want torture in R7
XP
Just pure agony
I defo think they'll make it harder considering that players stick around longer per rundown if the rundown is harder
OOf
true. Was kind of hoping to have a good few weeks of grinding in the extension, really hope R7 has a good challenge
What happened there?
All the awesome lore in 6.5 was very good though
Id reckon what could be nice is if they have a level that always randomizes every 6 hours or so
Bugs galore
OOF
Yeah but it be fun if it works
I can see that being an issue
Very
Specific challenges you can choose
Yeah or presented ones
I wanna learn more about the specific sleeper timeline
That be a good way to give appearal to people
More audio logs and stuff
yush
I want another backpack xP
Been here sense the dinos got wiped
Yeah but challenges would be fun
I thought they were only created when the parasite and nam-v coinfect humans?
Imagine running on an E level with only 20 health
Big asteroid brought the things to earth
Fuck knows what at the core of the asteroid is
The parasites and NAM-V
Apperantly a tome
but the sleepers themselves I thought were humans
They are
But we never went deeper than 1500m have we
I don't even think we've hit the 1500m depth
Potentially during the drilling that resulted in the massive blast?
He dead probably
I dunno actually
That creature probably hasn't been touched on sense its log was found
Hallucination(?) but I think it was a temporary translocation of a sleeper or something, "panting and staring at me"
There was also the creature that was dissected
I don't remember much of that
and KSO denied ever finding but "everyone already knows"
I can't think of any sleeper which can 'pant' so I think its something else
likely an alien sleeper or something
Yeah probably something from the deep
Yeah we call em allens
poor allens
being teleported everywhere
cuz time and space is being a bit wackydoodle
kk I gotta sleep, ttyl
Okay
We have some ideas of what the inner looks like
Corridors, open air chambers, almost volcanic looking, probably looks really fucking cool with all the allen tech down there. Thinking something like subnautica
That was still in the complex, just in a dead-end mining tunnel
Well, in the tunnels under the complex,
But not down in the meteor i don't think
Realistically, it had to be an infected allen.
Fliers wouldn't be in the complex for a very long time
Some life originally from destination
Which kinda only is the allens
Honestly, that could be either one of the first infected humans, or an infected allen. But given the significance in regards to the lore, my bet is on an allen.
Only if not the fliers and kraken or such. The allens are a very specific species we don't know much about. Their name is even redacted in one of the logs, sadly
Ah yes
I called the creature an allen the thing that was seen in the mine
Who is speaking in the weird audio logs in CX or DX?
Which ones ?
At the end of the levels ?
Or the one with shitton of people speaking ?
What does HEL stand for, precisely?
Hybrid Electrothermal Light-gas
Iirc, HEL weapons are essentially railguns.
Light gas =/= mix of gas and light btw
That sounds like it's some kind of plasma thrower
yeah
similar to an electric propeller
Dunno how the gun can withstand the whole backlash thing but that'd in theory dramatically increase the bullets' velocity
Probably throttled, or magic, either or.
Because science
HEL guns already exist
except not exactly like the ones we have
it's a mix between these two:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Light-gas_gun
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electrothermal-chemical_technology
The light-gas gun is an apparatus for physics experiments. It is a highly specialized gun designed to generate extremely high velocities. It is usually used to study high-speed impact phenomena (hypervelocity research), such as the formation of impact craters by meteorites or the erosion of materials by micrometeoroids. Some basic material resea...
Electrothermal-chemical (ETC) technology is an attempt to increase accuracy and muzzle energy of future tank, artillery, and close-in weapon system guns by improving the predictability and rate of expansion of propellants inside the barrel.
An electrothermal-chemical gun uses a plasma cartridge to ignite and control the ammunition's propellant, ...
you can handle the recoil with some padding or some dampeners of sorts
otherwise it would just dislocate your shoulder
I was mostly curious about how to compress all the stuff into a weapon
In your pics the railguns are enormous
still enormous
2060s tech ๐คท
๐ณ
and this doesn't use rails anyway
basically it ignites a certain gas mixture electro-thermally
by generating plasma
which results in high accuracy and propulsion
Similar to rockets with electric propulsion ig
kinda
Because it's gtfo
Anyone else wondering how the Hell Schaefer is surviving so deep in the complex by himself for long periods of time?
he's been extremely sneaky, moving through vents
The prisoners can barely survive a few hours in the complex, let alone days, months, or most likely, years.
guys i saw him vent!!!
that's surviving a couple hours doing what the warden wants
so clearing rooms, reactors ect
he's just been going around scavenging resources and hiding
Definitely reminds me of Doug Rattman.
Exactly
I wonder what Schaefer looks like, or if he's even mutated himself.
My theory is that he himself is infected by the mutagen
supposedly still very much human
since after he went to KDS Deep, he's been staying in HSUs
(also controlled by the warden)
which actually makes sense of why he still retains most of his memories and says fuck the warden in a couple logs
What are the HSUs again?
he hasn't been through the legion program and isn't really brainwashed
Sorry I keep forgetting the acronyms
HydroStasis Unit
Oh yeahhh, probably why he has short term memory loss.
it's not exactly short-term
HSUs have a side effect of memory loss
which was then abused by KDS
Something I'm wondering though is why the Warden doesn't just- never wake up Schaefer in a HSU
it has
schaeffer said that his team died, referencing the one the warden assigned him with
Gotcha
i believe @subtle verge has the document about it
the one that expands on what KDS possibly did with the HSUs and Project Legion
He does definitely say that there are others out there. Meaning it's more than likely there are other stragglers hiding in the Complex, with Schaefer being the only one that has put out the effort to contact you.
it's a possibility
but very unlikely
i believe he is referring to other prisoners like us being out there
doing the warden's bidding
Warden is probably doing some Hivemind bullshit, operating numerous teams at once.
the main reason that schaeffer is alive is because his friend artus warden him
definitely
not the pinned one
It does make me wonder though; one of Dr.Stokes logs mentioned Schaeffer (C067) was witness to an incident involving the MWP. It was stated Kovak was "Dealing with them". I assumed it meant he was inducted into legion and thats how he became a prisoner. However, knowing what we know now that can't be the case.
Wonder what KDS did to him after the incident, seems like a significant mention.
the one about how KDS is making a private army
Oh oh oh.
If you ask me I think the Warden is likely an artificial Intelligence created as a Failsafe in the event of complete and total Facility Collapse.
Gotcha
There's the KDS PMC theory.
ty
What's KDS again?
Kovac Defense Services
Ah yeah the security firm
Kovak/Kovac Defence Services
I just call them Kovac
True.
Probably lol
Anyways, it's likely Schaefer was made into a prisoner because he knew too much, rather than the crimes he committed.
something like that yeah
I have high doubts of the Warden being human though
They definitely act more machine-like
we do know it itself is an AI
Hey what exactly happened to the rest of Earth by the way?
I remember trying to research it but most of the lore was centered around the Gargantum not, well, rest of the world.
I'm pretty sure Earth is in a decrepit state but from what?
Was it from a direct influence of the facility?
unknown, all we know is that it was devastated by NAM-V
NAM-V?
that's its name
a virus that came from inside the meteorite
unknown origins, r-naught of 17 and deadly
once you have it, you're done for
you can only delay it
although it appears as if HSUs somehow can remove it through unknown means
Ohhhh I thought it was just referred to as "The Mutagen"
Sorry a bit new to the lore lmao
never heard of that
no problems
I've never played any previous rundowns and had to dig out stuff myself
Just recently got this game and the lore fascinates me
Have you guys ever seen a movie called "Oblivion"
yeah?
No worries, all logs have been documented in a few places if you'd like to binge them. The wiki & some of the pins will lead you to em.
it does seem so, except not to that extent
it's not some ultra-intelligent aliens that came to earth
technically the stuff from the meteorite is more natural than humans, since it's been there before us
True
I wonder if humanity has achieved interplanetary colonization yet
I imagine people on Mars looking at Earth and going "What the fu..."
there was a mission to mars but it failed due to the side effect of HSUs
since the memory loss probably caused the pilots to have no idea where they are and the ship was destroyed
I forgor
They could have stored documents or other means of restoring forgotten knowledge in the HSU
On the ship
Basically you wake up, see a thing, click it, then it shows you who you are and why you're there.
the issue is, no one except KDS knew about the memory loss
the ESA themselves didn't know

Kovac pulls an epic troll
So is it likely that the world underwent an Apocalyptic scenario in GTFO, with the Gargantum being Ground Zero?
I imagine Kovac would have more failsafes in place than just locking down the facility
KDS definitely gives me Umbrella Corporation vibes
they didn't
they didn't expect to find the meteorite, even less what was inside
Brainwashed convicts that are biolinked to some AI that gives them orders and they follow them without a fault. Literally drones in human bodies.
that wasn't the point of KSOs
legion was supposedly running from way before
not long after the memory-loss part of HSUs was first discovered by KDS
And like... Alright.
Woods maybe deserves it and he doesn't really mind.
Hackett doesn't care either.
Dauda... Don't remember what's up with him.
But Bishop's story is nuts. He was kovac staff member - an engineer or something. It appears he crossed some higher up and as revenge they trapped him into the legion program.
the mimic as far as we know
the only sleeper that can be technically called intelligent
Mimic/Specimen 22. Personally, I think it's the same creature.
Mimic is a coined term by us.
(although that seems to be because of the chip in the back of its head)
||Wasn't it the thing that was laying down at the end of DX||
Just making sure
i believe people coming to the lore channel would expect spoilers
So Schaeffer woke it up? Or did the warden wake it up?
unknown
It told him it was born about 8 hours ago...
Speculation goes that Specimen 22 was a grown neonate, the same neonates that you might remember from, I think, R3 if you played back then.
Sadly I don't
Wtf is neonate, can someone explain that one to me
A baby
Neonate is a baby, essentially.
We got it in R2 and did shit with it in. R3
More artificially created.
Alright
In R3D1 we left it to get imprinted with dna we got in another level
An artificial human of sorts?
Sleepers as we know them are not carbon-based lifeforms -- but that's subject to change because we simply don't know enough about them at this time.
Whereas Mimic/Specimens are.
Sleeper goes โclickโ โclickโ
Specimens are also rehashed KSOs that didn't quite make the program, they're recycled fleshy bits and genetic material.
What does KSO stand for.
Kovac security officer. Or something like that
ackshually by r3d1 the neonate is already imprinted
๐ค
How about you go dip your balls in acid
This one is hard to explain because it mixes game mechanics with lore, and it's.. spotty at best. But when they die, they melt into the ground and vanish into nothingness. From a mechanics point of view: it's to save graphics memory. From a lore point of view... we don't 100% know, but we speculate it has something to do with it being a non carbon-based lifeform.
is that supposed to be a punishment?
No
good ๐
Enjoy
Kovac is definitely pulling an Umbrella Corporation
There's a few different definitions; Kovac Special Operative/Officer/>insert whatever synonymous term here<
neonates were baby HSUs with artificial wombs and were seemingly used as part of project RISE, which seemingly would essentially raise them as KSO's from birth
You can definitely make ties to Umbrella, though admittedly I'm not necessarily up to snuff on the lore of Resident Evil.
They're both extremely wealthy and widespread corporations that hosted experiments with genetic altering mutagens until they broke out of containment and they failed to re-contain the breach effectively
Profit is king, baby.
Raise an infinitely sustained PMC force that follows your every order and buddy do you have the means for world domination, right there.
Although at this point...
The apocylpse already happened
Maybe they're desperate to get earth back
An army of drones would help with that
The main difference between Umbrella and Kovac is their motives
Too late to be greedy now
Umbrella clearly has the motive of militarizing the mutagens they created for profit. Kovac is much more unknown
You have to remember, though, this plan has been in action long before the outbreak of NAM-V.
Umbrella was batshit insane. In the movies at least.
But likely similar
Their motives make no sense.
Since at least the early 2040s.
Much more rational in the games
Movies are horrible
++++
he says there might be others out there. big difference
schaeffer did a stupid and locked himself in KDS deep and couldn't get the doors back open for some reason. as he was starving to death, he got in an hsu to avoid dying.
it says it at the top of your screen too, in big bold letters "this chatroom is spoiler heavy, please read and chat with this in mind."
well given they manipulate just about any species they come across, and humans are carbon based, there has to be a bit of mingling to an extent.
honestly "getting the earth back" wouldn't be much of a challenge, there aren't sleepers up there, it's just all dead.
So Schaefer pulled a Futurama and came out of the HSU wondering what the Hell happened?
no..
we don't know what happened when he got out
that is a heavy point of contestion really
since it doesn't fit with the timeline we have
I love me some convoluted timelines
since he is out of HSU and with his team an entire rundown before WRDN even has access to KDS deep
The headache is real nice
it just doesn't.. work
something got his HSU pod out of kds deep and into wrdn controlled zones for the wrdn to find it..
Consisant writing is hard
without restoring the power, lifting the lockdown, just getting wrdn access on the terminal right next to schaeffer's pod,
it's allotta bullshit
"Here you go Warden have this dude."
most likely theory, probably had something to do with the allens, rather than anything that works for or with WRDN
since.. wrdn could have just linked himself to the terminal then
instead of when he makes us do it in r5e1
I'm still wondering what's going on in the rest of Earth.
and given that's where roughly 70% of ALL KSOs are stored in the complex, KDS deep is extremely important to the WRDN
Surely there has to be SOMEONE out there
~30k people
daraxus and punkthulu did calculations with NAM-V's R-naught and modern covid response statistics
the result they came out to, was 99.98% of humanity being dead by the time of the game
so...
not especially good
Oof
How come there aren't Sleepers walking around the rest of the planet is my question
Why they all just- dead.
because only NAM-V escaped
nam-v doesn't create sleeper infestations
that is either the parasite by itself, or the parasite WITH nam-v
i know this is a bit off topic but im watching gameplay and footage of DX and it really sounds like the mimic is in fact supposed to be specimen 22
i didnt know this earlier but right after schaeffer kills the mimic, the warden suddenly mentions specimen 22 and how you need to check on its status
despite not mentioning it at all before, only AFTER the log with schaeffer plays
we don't know when schaeffer leaves these logs
he has access to hearsay
they could be the same time, months, or even years ago
yea but it would seemingly be the wardens first time hearing it and it makes no sense for it to suddenly add an objective after we hear it: to check on something that is never brought up
I thought NAM-V was what caused the Sleepers
probably all also dead
^
It's something else?
22 could have just been the first SUCCESSFUL specimen
it doesn't always start at 0
either they're floating in a random tube somewhere in labs or they're just straight-up dead
Nam-v has symptoms that are very similar to someone becoming a sleeper
But apparently the end result is death
There's something missing that secures the transformatiob
Okay so what turns someone into a Sleeper
sleepers first appear several years after nam-v does.
Something exclusive to garganta
the parasite
"
What are Sleepers?:
Sleepers are the final product of a NAM-V - Parasite infestation. NAM-V has an extremely high infectivity rate and is presumed to have a lethality rate of 100%.
Sleepers are created by either the Parasite by itself, or by the Parasite with NAM-V present. We know due to a time differential that NAM-V by itself cannot create Sleeper infestations.
It is theorized that NAM-V's extremely high lethality rate is supported by the Parasite, keeping infected hosts alive and thus, allowing the virus to not starve itself to death.
In circumstances like those found in the meteor beneath Garganta, it would seem that once all local hosts have been converted, a population of Sleepers can hibernate for millions of years before the opportunity to spread reveals itself once more.
What are Giants? Hybrids?
Specialized variants of Sleepers are created by the Parasite to fill a niche in its hive. A great example of this would be the Scout, designed to keep watch while other Sleepers hibernate to keep a hive from being exterminated.
Another example would be the giant, created by an infected host that has a large quantity of muscle mass, this infected individual was mutated into a role more fitting by it's genetic code and purpose the Parasite needed to support the hive.
It is this reason that nearly all Shooter variants appear to be female in origin, and nearly all Strikers being male.
"
that had stuff similar
here, from the for dummies doc
Is the parasite a separate entity also recovered from the asteroid?
yes
they are seemingly a symbiotic pair
Gotcha, so NAM-V escaped but not the parasite
to the surface? yes.
Resulting in mass death but not Sleeper Infestation
correct.
id assume minor transmutations of sleepers
Can you imagine if the parasite DID escape
garganta was quarantined rather fast by kovac and the mexican government when nam-v got out
yeh
well you'd have earth's human population of sleepers and likely most animal species aswell
it'd be another Destination
How the Hell did NAM-V get out to begin with?
Destination?
its an airborne disease
the interplanitary possibly interdimentional location we go to in a1, b1, c1, d1, bx and dx
Please read the "for dummies" doc, it's in the pins of this channel
It explains the overwhelming majority of the lore
Alright
But long story short, people that didn't follow protocols
And SMC.'s beachside resort for their staff that where going crazy
thatd def do it
Yes, they built a freaking beachside spa resort to try and improve morale, it was that bad
It's like the equivalent of having a day job of living in and mining in the chernobyl exclusion zone, and having those same people go relax at a cancer center.
why not just bring the beachside spa resort to the complex
then the warden could send prisoners for a relaxing day at the beach
It was, the chixculiub crater is huge
And partly over the gulf of mexico
i know
From there it likely spread to fish and went global
I'm writing descriptions for all r6 levels for when r7 comes out
and was wondering if this is an accurate representation of r6
The main objectives of this rundown is accessing and expanding Genome Database and collecting data in the form of Data Cubes.
and genome terminals
the genome terminals from extension or?
extensions and d1
I've only played half of the rundown, I've watched a few videos and read the descriptions of each though
extensions and d1 count as expanding genome database
since they're, well, expanding the genome database
If humanity's done then WTF is Warden doing...
Who knows
Is it just stuck trying to keep complex going...
D1 also has us get the genome database @past matrix
Sounds good ๐
we honestly dont know
it sounds like D1 just expands it by us getting the Pathogen Genome Database
Well main would take place before extension
yeah but knowing that we're getting a piece of the genome database I think it would be clear there already is one, we're just adding more to it (especially since extension missions dont mention the Pathogen Genome Database, just the genome database as a whole)
If humanity is truly done for by the point in time we play, the Warden may have shifted objectives to try and save life on earth in general rather than humans specifically
Keep in mind it uses KSOs as expendable assets
true
Almost every transmission you see in-game during a mission select in the rundown screen is a squad that has died
We aren't that high priority.
Well our squad is,
But not most
we're the only squad that has survived so far
We have survived EVERYTHING the warden sends us to do
We have been a decoy force numerous times for the wrdns other teams
smh it's "quad", not squad ppl ๐ฉ

I think that its trying to escape the complex (hence the neonate, aka what the warden called "the vessel") but its also trying to do something with Nam-V which is why its trying to expand the genome database by downloading data and meeting/analyzing new enemies (like the big flyer)
squad is still 4 ppl right?
maybe its trying to save the earth from full-on extinction
just a joke bc the latest logs specifically said quad
mmm true
On the surface, nam-v would have starved itself out a hundred times by now, the biggest threat to earth is the meteor
Yes
Damn that final E1 mission
Warden has a lot of toys to play with
The importance of the vessel to have 2 rundowns dedicated to it is oof
pMother samples further details around that needed
Potentially neonate being a mother's spawn?
And given that it needs to be "imprinted" with human DNA
then given a neural interface?
The mimic might not be trying to mimic humans, but other sleepers
An asset on the 'inside' for the warden to move about garganta without needing the KSO's
Given that all the tools already existed prior to the fall of the facility, it may be that this is what project RISE was about(?)
What I wanna know is if the Mimic is sentient and if it's aggressive to people or not
For all we know it could just be a nice lad
Lmao
Asking Schaefer if he likes cats or dogs
Oh, then you haven't seen the X levels yet?
HIGHLY recommend checking out the X missions as they contain a lot of lore
or the timeline and wiki
Wiki has the transcripts uploaded for all the X levels (thank you, @harsh saffron!) now. The long log between Schaeffer and Specimen 22 is still a WIP, but I figured the greater community can debate and edit as they see fit.
I'm too deaf to get a pinpoint accuracy.
Hehe, belive it or not, I tried to make it as compact as possible
The more important topic in the for dummies doc is the pre-apocaypse section. Post 2056, there really isn't anything major going on that is note worthy other than just summarizing what we do in rundowns, since we know less about the now than we do about before everything went to shit
If I tried to cover stuff that happens in-game, the most I'd manage is a bullet list, or something of the sort, since we don't have a thoroughly connected story yet that would be worth writing entire paragraphs for
Give it a couple more years
That and..
We have basically no dates for when anything happens in lore post 2056.
We have the order things occur in the order of the rundowns, but stuff like logs, the mimic and stuff, we don't have anything at all
I think given about rundown 8 or 9, the first 3 rundowns would be sufficiently far in the past that only basic plot synopsis would be needed in a format similar to the pre-apocalipse section
But I mean again, that depends if we get finite dates for some of the stuff we are lacking.
No, unfortunately.
They are great fun!
