isnt GLPS for hunger suppresion too
what's the difference of chaos between r8e1 and e2
We knew when it talked to alt john
like how worse does it get
Very
It is
What i just dont understand about the lore is how both teams got to be at the same complex at the same time
Going from a C tier difficulty level to the hardest level in the game is a big jump
it's like an alternate universe
But they interact with one another
R8 is a merge of membranes into singularity
Multiverses collapsed into each other and created a new one that contained both
they do?
Spaghetti worldline, a bunch of worldlines collided
And made R8
R8 is a combination of at least 3 universes
You can see other dead teams of our protagonists
i mean since there's a lot of variants ig there's a lot of wordlines and ig there's a lot of chaos
Not a lot, infinite
We only know about a couple million
Infinite is a lot
Or billion
I forgot
But if its infinite the protagonists woulda necer escaped
did they tho
Spoilers
Wdym

if the universe is infinite what stops the multiverse from having infinite universes
R8 is just made of a couple worldlines
Nothing
But in total in general infinite worldlines exist
ok so we didn't fuck up THAT bad
just like a blackhole
you could travel in time infinitely
theoretically
I don't know if we even know how the membranes merged
We don't but our constant use of the MWP could have caused it
We dont know most of the stuff tbf
i mean it's probably a concept that not even we understand
and we as in all of humanity
we barely understand our universe
Lore is way to complex if you wanna nitpick
Constant haphazard use of the MWP without learning the proper way from The Collectors which was briefly talked about in R6D1 logs
They said they’d teach Schaeffer how to project but that isn’t done properly until R8 itself and we have multiple unstable translocation tethers performed
who are the collectors
I
waht destination
Told you the last time
i forgor im sorry 🥀
i usually forget stuff when i hear it for the first time
but then i remember the 2nd time
Sureeeee
The Warden didn’t do a very good job of making sure we dealt with trips to Destination that well, twice we deal with Matter Wave Collapses and cause the Flyers to follow us so that is what I believe leads to R8
All of that mess
The warden laced the mwp
is destination desert
Yes
oh ok i remember now
Wish we had more outdoor sections
so true
i kinda wanna
make
them
but i lack everrything to do so ksmdkm
a copy of the game on steam
But i think maybe lack of outdoor section keeps the game size down
wdym "more"
are you talking about the desert area
those don't even feel like an outside since it's such a small area
when do we fight the collectors
😂
also I literally just realised what gtfo means in lore
do u
i mean
did u
yes
.t gtfo
The game is called GTFO and it doesn't stand for "Get The Fuck Out" but rather the feeling you have that you want to complete The Warden's objective and GTFO.
I too am a sigma
Proof
GOTFO leaked name for the sequel
I too am in this episode
"don't sue us please"
just a lot of explaining
Luci should really read the for dummies doc...
It's what it is there for.
Idk about that.. how can you prove they aren't just random johns?
@vernal veldt read the "for dummies" documents in the pins of this channel. (Pdf and txt). I have no clue why nobody directed you there immediately.
? I feel like this is reaaaally reaching from the "of us" line in that alt://r6d1 log.
Same Genotype as John Schaeffer, all from 000-000-000
Remind me what genotype means again?
Joke
Biology
noun
noun: genotype; plural noun: genotypes
the genetic constitution of an individual organism.
I was kidding the warden doesn't care
(Pulled from Oxford Dictionary real quick to make sure)
I meant that it wanted to leave its digital form and inhabit a body
The matter wave projector is unstable. Even pre-apocalypse, when Insight were experimenting with it, they lost an entire wing of their lab and countless staff to "manfunctions" with the device. Over the years and as it is used, these glitches get worse, to the point where, in r6a1, it randomly warps us just from touching it. R8 is a spaghettified mess, a "matter wave collapse" of roughly a dozen different universes (worldlines) being slammed together. The code got too corrupt, so to say.
We don't know that. The conduit calls the warden it's friend., it's effectively like a dog—a servant, meant to convey messages.
I haven't known there us one O.o
I know...
It won't spoil anything gameplay, but covers pretty much all pre-apocalypse lore.
is there also a doc with the complete story because maybe I missed something?
The pdf was meant to be a replacement for the txt, but lies unfinished. It's best to read both.
Uhhhh... generally there is too much. It'd be like a light novel's worth. 200+ logs.
The .txt is a mostly full summary
It has been updated repeatedly over the years, since OGR6, and is (probably) just about as compact as I could make it
Technically it is not infinite, it just might as well be infinite.
If theory rings true, every action, probability, or decision would split into two new universes or worldlines, one where that thing occurred, one where it didn't, or any variation based on the number of variables.
From the first nanosecond of the big bang, an uncountable number of atoms and particles being flung in random directions—the number of worldlines already might as well be infinite.
From the collector's ship crashing on earth or not, a worldline is created. And from that worldline, all of gtfo is spun off.
10cc wrote themselves into a multiverse during r6.
They didn't have to, but they did.
If you have free time and want to read further, look into "Worldline Theory". It's a multiverse/time travel theorem, and while gtfo doesn't explore the time travel aspect, it generally follows all other rules.
You may know of this theorem from the anime Steins;Gate.
Ancient aliens. (No, they didn't build the pyramids)
An alien planet located in the butterfly nebula, roughly 3 thousand light years away. The version of this planet we visit is also in a different worldline/dimension/universe.
Ogr6b1 really felt open world to me, even though it was so small and restricted. I literally spent tens of hours solo just exploring every molecule.
We can't. Other than the warden, they are looooooong dead.
They pulled a Thing (1982). Their ship/crew got overrun and they crashed.
ik abt it but it's not a crime if i ask direct questions
your right, it's not.
im sorry tho
Good afternoon, Frosty.
Could you please tell me what you think about the idea that, in addition to the usual sleepers, there are also sleeping animals on the surface, like dogs?
I introduced them into my work based on the game.
Hi my name is frosty
Mr. Truth told us he got namv from his dog
So it can probably infect animals, plus we have no reason to expect it wouldn't infect other species
didnt the parasite stay underground?
outside of like one report of an enemy (pablo?) on the surface
thought only nam-v escaped
it was a striker wave variant detected on the surface
also only in 1 of the timelines did it remain contained
In alt i think it got out
I don't remember which
There were sleepers on the surface
in OG it was contained in ALT it got out
I wish we had a more detailed account of how things went for the world
potentially.
if the virus and parasite can jump between and infect the collectors, the floaters, the kraken, humans, and god-knows whatever else is/was aboard the vessel, them jumping between different species on earth isn't at all unlikely.
there would be a far bigger gap between humans and the floaters/krakens than humans and canines or any other earth fauna.
in the original worldline, yes. not in alt:// though.
the alt://worldline has reports of sleepers on the surface, particularly insofar as the Caribbean, have been reported by the Daylight team.
completely off-topic, but do any of you guys play an instrument?
i wish
not sure what i'd instrument i'd go after, but electric guitar and organ are the coolest imo
played drums through high school for marching, concert and an independent jazz band
Transverse flute
Ukelele
I did play drums but haven’t been able to much after moving out
Metal drumming was my forte
I played drums in middle and high school, but haven't in a long time. I have recently picked up and started learning the banjo.
Yes i play the flute
(I don't)
I'd guess so since where the virus is it comprises most of life as a whole (even though it's a virus... huh), and dogs and other earth animals don't differ from each other that much
Can someone explain to me how a Baby striker achieved sonic speed?
The same way baby zombie in minecraft did
nah, the baby striker too fast for baby zombie.
Took an aggressive booster
On that topic (super late, I know) boosters have some absolutely insane properties (not talking about in-gameplay buffs)
I know with like, no limits our muscles are considerably stronger than we can use them,
But the amount of force to cause a sleeper's head to explode with a KNIFE is just insane
I'm not even sure if that's biologically possible, even with the adrenaline and everything
a booster is literally called steroids i dont think its raw strength
they lacing tf out of the prisioners
This.
the hsus contain every drug ever discovered
The sheer amount of drugs/strength that get used on KSOs in insane
Iirc we don't know any of thr actual drugs used in in-lore boosters, but it has to be some absolutely cracked cocktails
the warden wants to make you belive the other teams died by monsters, but he actuulay made them all od by accident
KSOs are like mini-hulks
Compared to the average person, it'd be like a terminator
boosters affecting your weapon performance/ammo economy is wild tho
Which is why I said non-gameplay lol
Obviously that's just game magic
steroids is also a in gameplay buff tho. I think Shaeffer described a booster to henrikson as something what their brains crave for. Some giga scifi heroin
Because even without equipping one of the gameplay boosters we are... considerably more powerful than the average person, AND have more endurance/stamina
Bunny hopping through levels with 80+ lbs of equipment
I'd imagine we'd just have some sort of SUPER SUGAR CRASH after each expedition
From all our muscles just giving out
what if we have pool noodle eqipment. Melee sure, it can be heavy, but what if everything else is made out of composite or lightweight alloys
I wonder what the average "lifespan" is for a KSO
the intro cutscene implies that we are expired, and i dont think it was that long time between the miners last stand and the current
I mean standard issue melee is a full-titanium bat, a primary rifle/smg, a secondary machinegun/shotgun, a tool of some kind, AND hundreds of rounds of ammo...
4 minutes
I mean iirc it was, we were just left in stasis for a long ass time
~a few years
is it ever said?
Nah... expeditions average an hour +
like exact time until chip to start of gameplay?
pickled KSO marinating in the Muscles juice
Rundown 3 is 2063.
If I remember correctly, collapse was sometime between 2057 and 2059
I know we have a date for it, but I don't remember it
the lore is peak, i fw it so much
Honestly.
I haven't seriously played the game in YEARS
I just love the lore so damn much
what do you define as seriously?
pubbing i assume
Playing more than one day out of a week.
Often though, I've gone months between reinstalling
Currently uninstalled
Its storage is so lil i just always have it in hand
I figure if I haven't played something in a month, no point in keeping it on my desktop
I know we have over 200 logs,
But honestly I could binge 200 more
There is just something about the pre-apocalypse and collapse that interests me so much more than the actual gameplay / current day itself
counting in the ones non related to the achivement like the ones on the screens and stuff?
The steam achievement doesn't count removed logs or logs that weren't ever in the game to begin with (santonian industries website and ambassador email logs)
Total is ~220ish last I counted
Autogen logs are randomly generated, and aren't considered.
Otherwise it'd be tens of thousands, at least
Yeah, but i am talking about the ones you find on the monitors
That usually desplay some Bio readings, Warden Messing around or a bunch of errors
Why do you enjoy the lore snowperson
Surely its because of the deep and intricate Lore of the Shaeffer bucket
But how did he wipe
the old fashioned way
Scheaffer must have gotten really lucky with a long incubation period because there's no fucking way this man was never infected
Iirc (frosty can correct me if I’m wrong) he originally escaped his programming and then got into an HSU to hide, and got sealed in. Though he definitely should’ve succumbed to it in the time of OGR6-R8
Lore doc doesn’t seem to have any Schaeffer lore in it unless I’m doopid
I dont think frosty will correct you for some time
They on the stream rn
Wrong Frosty
Oohhhh
i meant lore frosty not aussie frosty
Frostty
Those are auto-generated too.
The collapse of civilization and the events leading up to it. I find them bizarrely realistic. Like watching a car crash.
The same reason why people love apocalyptic stories, I guess.
But do you enjoy DIY home insulation
Insulation?
Pink glass blankets are scary.
Amazing.
Realistically he should have died yeeeeaaars ago, and it's a plot hole that he hasn't.
Global pandemics have always interested me at least a little
Even before the event
It's interesting to imagine how humanity might try to survive turbo super aids polio
Premium
He was, as far as we know, the last living human (not including KSOs) in garganta, and is known to have visited areas of high sleeper density (the cafeteria)
So time before + the time spent starving in KDS-Deep, he'd cut it close
Even before hydrostasis
Idk wtf he is eating down here. He should be a skeleton
Probably canned food
But when we see him in r8 he looks like he's been eating his protein powder
It happened fast enough that food was likely left intact
Complex didn't fall due to starvation
No, it got overran and the warden sealed all the doors.
Survivors attempting to escape facing endless hordes of sleepers on one side and sealed off blast doors on the other
He did.
But he pretty much stayed in the really low levels
Kds deep is way down
984
That's not so far
Max we see is like 1400
Starter levels are 400?
I don't remember
984- that's half a mile down
What's a mile
American unit for travel
Anyway i mean comparatively to other locations
It's not so extreme
We surpass that depth a bunch of times
Such a shame we bottom out so early
We never get to see the ship
Where are the 2-3km deep missions
I'd live down there with how much time I spent on destination in solo
I wanted more exploration
Even some concept art woulda been nice
I suppose there's nothing useful there
And the risk is hilarious
You wouldn't make it off the elevator
Maybe not to us, but in terms of alien stuff it'd be incredible
We could learn SO MUCH just by looking around in the ship at what they have and how it is structured
archaeology
Hammerstein lead full expeditions in there with KSO escort during the pre-apocalypse. It can't be toooo bad
Also... what kind of first name is Gallus?
8 player missions
More like escort missions. Way more than 4 scientists. Something like 12.
Locate a 4th data cube
36 player then
Now I'm just thinking of the cut ending to The Thing 2011 again...
We never got to see a collector
Or really any of the different kinds of life hammerstein describes them finding in there
yeah
Ok so i was right that he should be dead
Thanks frosty 🙏
warden, fetch me my opium
KSO: Help, I sprained my ankle.
BIOCOM: No problem! Administers enough morphine to kill a bear
KSO: AAAAAAAAAAAAA
It's both funny to me (and stupid) that Kovac kept KSOs infected with nam-v for "recycling" with other KSOs (organ transplants, etc)
KSOs must have a lifespan of like 4-6 weeks with the amount of abuse their bodies are put through.
No wonder Kovac was looking to replace them with the Rise Project's subjects.
Legally dubious obtaining of personnel + 2+ years of time in hydrostasis + chip implants and biological chemical augmentation/bathing for a soldier that only lasts you a month before all of its organs and muscles turn to jelly from overstress.
Rise's units only took a matter of weeks to mature into "adulthood" and with them keeping the mental capacity of children and not having memories to wipe, they are almost infinitely more efficient to produce
Hell, they are grown in-house so no kidnapping either. They'd never be missing persons to begin with
Kovac is evil with a capital E, but at least they were efficient
like the Germans
I did thought of this games lore is gonna have some corporate greed
It does.
It's the core reason for why garganta exists.
They covered up and torched (flamethrowered) the bodies of deceased individuals and red cross workers at the side of the Merida earthquake so they could survey the area and eventually buy it all out to begin construction on garganta to get to the (supposed) massive iridium vein which turned out to be the collector's vessel
Kovac caught on to this due to santonian (and by extension dreyfus)'s inadequate security, and kovac blackmailed dreyfus for a spot in garganta to move their headquarters to in exchange for keeping quiet
the lore of this game sure does nail the corporate greed part loll
During the collapse, during the expeditions into the ship, during the mass dying of all life on the surface, santonian was still digging for iridium in the ruins in/around the collector's ship.
If they came into contact with sleepers or collector artifacts/chambers, they'd simply shut down the equipment and call Kovac In to handle that tunnel/excavation sector. Like a routine.
The guy in charge of researching the artifacts and head of Insight, Gallus Hammerstein, was more interested with attaching his name to the scientific advancements and recovering specimens to shelve into display cases than the danger the site posed.
Almost every single person of any significance was in it for their own gain.
And everyone collectively suffered (and died) for it.
The entire outbreak on earth started from two scientists entirely flunking quarantine procedures on the first opened chamber of the vessel.
(Disregarding the mayan incident)
At least the ancient mayans self-sacrificed enough to prevent total extinction of the planet.
They cared.
In the 16th century, making do with what they had.
The lore goes crazy
But modern humanity does not.
Ok but isn't that dumb
In the lore, and irl, it doesn't care. Capitalism, and infinite growth, must chug on.
Potentially, but it depends on how you look at it. We know very little from the time.
Are you aware that most of humanity irl will be extinct by the year 2100? Climate change, economic collapse, hell, even just population collapse.
No
I'm not aware
There are several factors over rooting for our distruction and humanity collectively is doing very little to prevent it.
As of a couple months ago, the ENTIRE NATION of tuvalu has begun being evacuated to Australia because their country is sinking into the ocean. Let me repeat that. THE ENTIRE COUNTRY.
Oh awesome
Tuvalu is just the first. Educate yourself on how fucked we are.
We should burn more oil
i am moderately aware of how fucked we are
I've seen the maps
But also you know we're doing a few things
Europe at least
how did we get to this convo btw
Last week we actually passed the first major tipping point - the irreparable collapse of the coral reefs.
Parallel drawn to irl
To justify cartoonish decisions in gtfo
Oh fantastic
What did the coral reefs do were they important
Talking about the collapse of civilization in GTFO and their (smc, kovac, dreyfus)'s greed and comparing its realistic-ness to irl.
Or did we just wipe another species off the planet
They support the overwhelming majority of ocean life.
hm.
I just like to keep up with how fucked we are because it makes me feel less bad somehow.
Well I'm doing my part
By doing nothing
yay
But seriously
What were they exactly planning to do with irridium after a global quarantine
Have fun refining it
And shipping it
It immediately doesn't work
25% of fish rely on reefs
I guess we'll be making more fish farms soon
Nothing some more industrial slop can't fix
This is 2.3c BEFORE 2040.
sooner than predicted, worse than expected.
insight mentioned
By the s&p. You know, that s&p.
I bet you played Shipwrecked 64 lowkey
Never heard of it.
yeah so anyways europe can do whatever we want the chinese won't stop burning everything they can get their hands on that releases energy quickly enough
Yeah i remember ts in the gtfo lore
It's used in chips iirc. It's a real element.
I know that
I meant that the supply lines and infrastructure necessary to refine and sell it is instantly unavailable
You have nobody to buy it
Its a more of story based game where you break the 4th wall and learn more about the corporate greed of the game
Don't even get me started on the AI bubble...
wont say nothin else to spoil
The world is a mess. Both IRL and in gtfo.
4.43 trillion market cap
i love being gaslit into thinking an algorithm is intelligent and trustworthy
just irl we are more directly responsible for it
i love letting my skills decay because i ask the word roulette machine
Retirement? Hahahaha.
I've already accepted that I'll be working forever honestly
Hopefully it'll also be something good so i can feel good about myself for doing it
If im not a billionare by 30 im robbing a bank
which bank will it be
holy this convo really went to hell
going from GTFO lore to despair
It's fine
Mfs stole the louvre i have hope
in span of 5 minutes
i'll do what i can with work, should earn a fair amount of money, i expect to have other people contributing too
Gtfo is about despair it fits
This is relevant
thankfully i'm not in a united states of poverty situation where people grasp for paycheques that come weekly
Learn how to treat/purify water, how to forage, and how to maintain a vegetable garden.
Look
Im gonna keep it real
Other than that, situate yourself preferably somewhere rural. That is all you can do.
I'm not surviving a famine
Facts
i don't like large urban areas to begin with
Neither are you probably
poverty is so common in america
somewhere nice and relaxed, more rural, more old, that's where i belong
Unless you are reliant on modern medicine, you can realistically survive more than you think if you learn.
Poverty is common everywhere
Foraging doesn't work at 8 billion people scale
I've been gardening, woodworking, and fishing since I was 6.
Kill 7 billion people
I'll just die
living in a nice old town with old victorian buildings and 3 (ex-)churches in close proximity
I know how to can, how to fish, how to purify water, etc
Purifying water is barely a skill
I have a storage of MREs and water drums.
living without modern medicine would be very miserable in many ways
I'll be fine for a number of weeks, at the very least.
Wow boil it for 2 minutes
I live in one of the most remote places on earth, ice and snow as far as they eye can see
More than just boiling.
yeah I am not reading this shi anymore
Don't lecture me about charcoal
Tablets are generally best, yeah
They taste like shit
And it's basically the same
if famine hits even if i have a garden I'm gonna get robbed
I don't doubt it. Several of my family members are diabetic. It's just KO for them.
Shits fucked.
does anyone in this server like live normally damn bro
I don't
depending on the type of diabetes you may fare better or worse
but regardless, the complications will catch up to you
Gtfo players and normal in the same sentence💔
Yeah. No amount of knowledge will work without proper experience.
Some might
Before everyone fucking dies, always gotta practice your methods. Test your equipment and knowhow
Better now than when you really need it.
i don't like thinking about apocalypse because it's not going to be fun
It's just going to be a lot of hunger
For a lot of people
Yeah.
I don't think we'll really go there though we can produce staple foods pretty hard
Flour and beans
Some pepper view it like they get to play irl fallout, but that's just a fantasy.
this went so south ts crazy
I think about this a lot okay
Most (I'm talking 60+%) of crops grown in the US aren't for human consumption.
okay now its getting
depressive
like literally
Do you have an idea of how interconnected and complicated it is to out fresh food in your supermarket
And how much food we consume globally
It's so much
With some leverage they could be a tiny bit of bounce back, but climate change making land just unfarmable, it depends
nah I am not reading all this shi anymore
Doesn't help AI data centers draining millions of gallons of water daily
You said ts like 3 times already
Yeah see
That's good though because potentially we can in an emergency stop feeding livestock and overproduce grain and staples
Which is far more efficient
To wrap this back around to gtfo: everyone in this channel must become Mr. TRUTH
No one will be
The death toll from nam-v was fucking insane.
Fascinating
I'm talking from a deaths per year perspective
Isnt it like 98%?
Shit spread so fast.
In total
4 billion cases 2.2 billion deaths
I mean it's 100% but...
Like, if you catch it, you ARE fucked.
I remember seeing
Some super isolated people probably survived... at least in OG
For a bit
Not that there would be much world to go back to
Yeah
Until the water became contaminated
I thought i read somewhere it wiped out 98%
Different team
Sleepers in the carribean
Sleepers of the Carribbean
Alt warden was just a bit too slow to seal the doors
Seal everyone inside and be left to their fates
That's what actually happened in both og and alt.
If not it was just a death sentence
Warden after a while sealed all of the bulkheads
Everyone still in garganta was trapped
Too bad it didn't get namv
It's why there are sleepers and corpses fucking everywhere
Nowhere for people to escape to
I wonder what would happen if the complex didn't break quarantine
But the corpses seem to be like carbonized
Iirc when people first started getting the stoops they sent workers to relax on the coast on the surface
I hate the term stoops
So do i.
It sounds like it hurts
Jaw crusher moment.
Like you're hunched over because your back is hurting
You have a fever and can't think so you're swaying side to side
Like the fent lean but instead you're just dying from namv and in pain
The symptoms also got worse over time as nam-v adapted to modern humans
Originally it was asymptomatic, no?
@past vessel I'm on my phone
Me too
^?
What do you even do in that situation
Like you're in your house
Half the world is infected, 1 in 4 is dead
Maybe you have it, maybe not
You're going to suffer horribly either way
You know you're going to die
Well, you really have a choice. You can either isolate and try and hold out, or you can say fuck it and be with your family.
Risks be damned.
I don't think being with family is a great idea
Yes, incubation period can be anywhere from several weeks to months before symptoms start to show (I believe one of the R7 logs has this)
It really depends on the kind of person you are with what you choose.
Not because of risks but because like
I don't think it would be very fun to just
Watch your family die
Painfully
Maybe not a great Idea, but with the end of the world, it's more realistic that it might at first seem, I think
A couple times in the US there were false alarms for incoming missile strikes, notably nuclear, and that is what a lot of people did.
That's different
Now granted, a nuke is a lot faster than a virus to kill you,
That would be instant and painless death
But I think the same might apply if you know you only have so much time left. Bucket list things
Dude, covid here was hell
Could have maybe even died
World longest pandemic we had
I think with covid there were just a lot of people that didn't care. For me, I cared a lot. I isolated and never got it.
Completely avoided all people
Good job
Went out like once per month.
From february 2020 to june 2021
I think in a true end of the world scenario like in gtfo, I might do the same. Try to ride it out and see what is left after.
I stayed home all day gaming tho, i was like 15
I also avoided all contact and got it through a family member who wasn't washing hands and refused to wear a mask :D
But that is just me
I'm still extremely pissed about that
At least they didn't fucking die though so that's good
They're old
I literally never saw anyone during covid
I was unemployed at the time and just kept working on prepper projects. Mainly water purification at the time.
I did catch covid like a week or so ago though lmao
But what i am proud of though
My mum got it and I got it from her
When i caught it i quarantined myself in my room and my mom didn't get it despite living in the same house
My only real achivement during covid was top 20 globally on bloon td battles
She also didn't get it when we shared a car ride where i had my head stuck out the window the entire time lol during winter
When it comes to an apocalypse, there is a lot of people, mainly from media, that sort of, and it's weird to say this, but fantasize about the end of the world.
No apocalypse is cool
I used to be like that
In nam-v's case where it is super fast, I think there would be a LOT of denial. Not about it's existence or results, but about people themselves catching it.
"yay zombie apocalypse no more school"
You'd find a lot of sealed up buildings with dead people inside if you were exploring after the fact
In the lore, we know pretty much every single country closed their borders and went full isolationist, and that kinda tracks.
What else were they gonna do
You can't not try
The same kind of people who fantasize about the end of the world are the same kind of people entirely unprepared for actually surviving/living it, as you said splash.
The smart people aren't just gonna throw their hands up and go "welp had a good run"
They'll try
Even when countries completely collapsed they were still trying to re-establish contact with them
Surface was decimated
I read a while ago, the amount of easily accessible resources on the surface have been depleted such that if an apocalypse should occur, that we wouldn't be capable of a second industrial revolution. We'd just be stuck.
Yeah
If you're fantasizing about it you don't understand it
Because if you did then
We'd be stuck in medieval times 2.0
Arguably, yeah.
The only saving grace in currwnt times is the existance of modern items, but the production of more would be impossible, like medication and stuff
The only kinds of people actually going to long term survive some sort of global scale apocalypse are people already living that sort of way - homesteaders and people living off grid
Industrialization is cool
I don't live off grid (obviously), but I've spent almost my entire life in the sticks.
That's nice
I live in a place with almost no direct contact with anything
Building anything manually without modern equipment is easily 10x more time consuming and labor intensive
And maybe upright impossible
definitely
We also aren't taking into account the fact that nam-v targets all animalia, not just humans.
I'm gonna stop thinking about the collapse of society and the world and go eat corn flakes
Hunting is dead. It's just subsistence farming and foraging
Why would it
This was how Indians in the great plains were mostly wiped out.
We slaughtered tens of thousands and nearly extincted the American bison.
Today only several hundred specimens live in states like idaho.
To drive the tribes out, we killed their food.
Humans have a tendency of killing animals
Where is that in lore?
Oh shit
Humans are savages
i guess when it comes to prepping
you have to outlast the famine
so you need food for 1-2 months or so
until whoever is gonna starves does so and then you can go back to the now relatively sufficient amount of food
I think the expected time for most people to die off without access to food is 3 weeks.
But the more is preferable, obviously
2 months doesn't sound all that impossible
i can buy some honey and like idk
some other non perishables
so i don't have to think about it
You'd need enough for people to die off (sounds horrible saying that) and enough to cover the time for you to adapt to what is left over.
yeah that's what i'm saying too
so that when you go back out to get food the amount of people can now sustainably live off of it
Because no matter how badass or Rambo you expect yourself to be, you aren't just going to jump straight from eating canned goods or MREs to subsistence living.
Not even accounting for growing seasons
Essentially old school homsteading.
Living entirely off the land. No shops, etc
rough
i have successfully grown a lot of tomatoes
He lives up in the UP.
like an impractically large amount of tomatoes
so many tomatoes that we turned them all into sauce for pasta which lasted us 2 years
It's important, vitally so, to stagger your crops.
Especially if you don't can.
Soil erosion is another thing. It's why corn farmers in the US plant soybean.
i played vintage story so i know
It revitalizes the earth with nitrogen so the next harvest can be corn
Otherwise you'd just drain the dirt year after year until you can't grow a damn thing
you can probably get a ton of compost from leaves and let it sit
doesn't work for large fields but in a garden it could
Compost helps, but it doesn't do everything.
For a garden, maybe.
I've only even seen it used on scale.
a gardnen is all you need
I pretty much turned the entire backyard into a farm as a kid.
we're talking small scale here
(No joke)
(i believe you)
I grew up in the middle of nowhere and spent most of my childhood living with my grandparents.
I know how to read a paper map and use a compass
i grew up in an old house near a mountain
the stars used to be visible
then slowly more lights started appearing over time
and they were lost
now i live near the sea
This is the biggest fucking thing since I've moved to near downtown portland.
There are no stars
None
I don't know how city kids live
like you do
It's just an entirely different culture
-and I'm going to call some people out here,
"Suburban" living isn't rural.
My home town, the largest town in the county, has, since 2009, a population of less than 9k
what is that a controversial opinion or something
You'd be fucking surprised. Mainly from suburban boomers.
It blows my mind.
idk how things are there but i guess so
i've seen the american "oh i'm italian" meme
where they're 1/16th italian don't speak italian and haven't been in italy but they're from new york
i suppose that tracks with this too
"i saw corn once"
This isn't an "I have french ancestry so I'm french" thing. This is something I've noticed with almost every single suburbanite I've talked to about this.
I did a poll on this in high school
It was something like 78% considering themselves being from rural america
In a suburb of Atlanta GA
Delusional.
Absolutely delusional.
It's the same reason (to a lesser extent) why worktrucks and pickups are so popular in the US.
They are bought for appearances of "wanting a good ol' truck" rather than actually needing one
But idk... maybe I'm just gatekeeping a bit.
1: the kinds of people that think they can survive in an apocalypse absolutely can't.
2: the kind of people who think they'd struggle, might.
The skills actually needed to survive without modern convenience have been lost, rapidly I've seen even in just my own life.
But regardless, it isn't something you'd consider "fun".
Something like post-climate change or post-economic collapse or post-nam-v wouldn't be like fallout raiding supermarkets. It'd be suffering.
There is one game I've played that I think actually does the concept justice, and that'd be "This War of Mine"
By 11bit studios
haven't played it
i play frostpunk as you might be able to tell from my attire
my fav universe
I'd really highly recommend it. It takes place in an eastern European inspired country during a Civil War.
You play as a group of civilians, trying to survive by scavenging and not getting shot.
It's something like a 9.5/10 on steam
i know the gist yeah
it doesn't interest me very much because i don't know if i want mroe depresso espresso right now
Frostpunk is great, though I prefer the original over fp2
Yeahhhh I know that feeling.
fp2 gave us some cool art at least
Oh I'm not saying it's bad, it just different, and not my cup of tea. I much prefer the smaller, more intimate story of the first game.
The super small scale and population really makes it more investing. Like the last swan song of humanity
the end is never the end is never the end is never
The last Autumn was also great too.
THE GENERATOR... I-ITS OPERATIONAL, ITS OPERATIONAL!!
ALL HAIL TO THE WORKING CLASS!!
i go engineers every time
unlike fp2
Truly a great game
we were actually just arguing about this with some other guys
fp2 is hilariously unbalanced in favour of adaptation and merit
but this is really off topic now
I saw a post on reddit yesterday...
"900 people have died in a riot"
The scale just... is weird
Anyway, anything left to discuss on the topic of GTFO and the world ending?
Not that I know of
I think it was just too fast
It was more of countries going out with a whimper than a bang
Now, I know alt is completely fucked, but let's theorize on OG for a bit...
Do you think life could eventually bounce back?
Garganta is still a ticking time bomb, but it is sealed off, for now at least
og was no parasite but still namv outside of garganta right?
Yes. Pretty much everyone and every animal died, but no sleepers.
Their corpses would still be dangerous for a number of weeks
But once it stopped being spread and there was time for nam-v to die off, it'd be "clean"
how long can the virus last on it's own
it doesn't matter does it
nothing outlasts it anyways
uhhhh if it really cleans itself out no matter how slowly I guess something could emerge again
I know we have a number for on surfaces
But let's just go with 5 weeks
Because the main thing with nam-v, is it is super lethal, super infectious, and spreads super far super fast.
It kills fucking everything, but then because everything is dead, it runs out of food
It kills itself
That's why it's symbiosis with parasitidae garganta is so potent.
Sleepers give nam-v a bottomless fuel tank.
Somehow, nam-v renders the parasite and it's host immortal
(To aging, not gunfire)
wrong plague inc speedrun strat
And they seem to be able to hibernate just fine for tens of millions of years
Or even not hibernating, just floating around for billions of years in the case of the destination floater variants
Where are they getting all this energy? I have no idea-my supplier didn't tell me where he sources his from
Dauda theorized at one point, that nam-v might has been created by the collectors as a sort of bioweapon
Because of how OP it is.
But regardless of where it came from, it's relationship with parasitidae garganta was never intended, and they came across eachother at some point later on (they didn't evolve together)
Membrane to membrane energy transfer?
Since there are endless
Maybe a membrane version of each parasite is photosynthesising or otherwise getting energy in another membrane
And then magically transmitting it to the ones in symbiosis
Also interestingly
Many of the sleepers were never even human?
Like the ones in waves
They get spawned in and have some little bits of human dna
depends on what you mean by "human"
1: normal humans infected by nam-v that a parasite found and took control of.
2: ancient floaters/kraken (living alien life) that got infected by nam-v that a parasite found and took control of.
3: human infants bred and then infected by nam-v/parasitidae garganta in the womb of a mother/pmother/megamother.
4: infected human sleepers being absorbed and mass-cloned by respawn sacks on ceilings.
1 were human. most of 4 were human. 2 were never human. 3... depends on your definition. they never got to live a life.
4 also depends on if you consider a clone to be the same person or a new person
the red variants from waves... same as scouts, chargers, etc, its different subspecies of parasite
**### Entry: Gallus {genus}
Poss. intro? fix end bit
/quote
There are cross-species behavioral distinctions that separate all species within the genus. The dark-skinned variants tend to be more active hunters, suggesting the darker pigmentation is a product of natural selection. They are harder to see and therefore more successful predators. The light skinned breed are still vicious and will attack at the slightest provocation, but they do not seek the prey as actively, they are more disposed to sedentary, almost somnific, behavior. They wait, and strike when roused.

Entry: Gallus Reptus
Paragraph on:
- Reptus show little signs of intelligence beyond their predatory instincts. Clarify the intraspecific devolution theory?
- possibility of structured hierarchy among the pack, and the role of Reptus in that hierarchy
- possibility that Reptus are a post-metamorphic stage of Jaculus? Note no confirmed sightings of Jaculus in a pupal state.
- NEED DNA SAMPLE
Entry: Gallus Jaculus
- more intelligent than Reptus, or given a more strategic role in the hive?
- what are the implications of emergent intelligence.
- potential human connection/influence. Mimicry or symbiont relationship with parasite?
- remove that woman from the team
Entry: Gallus Capreolatus
Name options:
- Capreolatus
- Cirrhus
- Pampinarii
- Clavicula
Discuss tendril hypotheses : - diphyllobothrium latum mimicry?
- siphonophore/zooids theory
- NEED DNA SAMPLE
Gallus Horridus
- advanced predation techniques
- purpose of keratinous growths unclear. does it charge under threat?
- NEED DNA SAM**
nam-v kills its host with mutations.
if an instance of parasitidae garganta gets to a host and takes control of it before nam-v's mutations kills it, parasitidae garganta continues the hosts' mutations.
what sleeper variant the host turns into depends on 1: the subspecies of parasite. this is favoritism. 2: the biological/physical makeup of the host.
it'd be very inneficient to turn frank the roided up bodybuilder into a shooter, so instead, he is turned into a giant.
even if the parasite subspecies is the scout subspecies.
this is where (in my theory anyway) where Hybrids come from.
mismatch of host and parasite subspecies.
also fun fact: the kraken is a hybrid subspecies (of sleeper, not parasitidae)
Is this what Cocoons are?
I don't openly recall a log that talks about Cocoons, is all
Only mention I think is R5A2 Interrupted Comms
you are correct.
"absorbed"... entirely speculation on my part as to where they come from.
realistically, they are biologically impossible.
i'm simply drawing logical conclusions from gameplay.
take the truck's worth of salt.
We did have a previous discussion about Cocoons where notably every single enemy except for Flyers and Nightmares can be found in zones with them
realistically they'd be a very very slow way to repopulate hordes.
the mothers are more grotesque and efficient.
and even Mothers can be respawned by them, as well as Tanks
given how they function in gameplay, the only thing i can assign to them in terms of theory is asexual reproduction; cloning.
drawing in resources/biological material brought to them or from the environment and copying one instance into two, then dropping it onto the floor
like an amoeba.
Id prolly say the cocoons repopulate mothers and other bosses first and then mothers repopulate the rest if it’d come to it
with the asterisk that mothers and tanks may not be normal mutations, and may have been influenced by dauda's research.
(Going from a lore not gameplay perspective)
(i agree with you)
True i forgot about that part
Also how you been frostty been a long time
i've been alright. cought covid last week.
Yeowch
^
Was it bad or was it like not that deep?
Oh 😭
i was sick for like 4 days or so until the symptoms went away
it really sucked for those first few days, though
oh yeah Frostty are you aware of RespawnSackBarcodeFix
Well its inching closer
nope.
so at some point, Cocoons had their decal on the floor (the intestines) borked. There is supposed to be a blood spatter decal painted on the floor, but because it is oriented incorrectly, the decal only displays slivers of the blood in a way that resembles a barcode for items at the grocery store
funny.
No its just vibration in the complex making the blood pile up like that :3
Also happens around the base of the Cocoon on the ceiling
see here, vanilla R5C1
you can probably see why it's called a barcode
oh, btw, i read in gtfo-chat, did you ever find the stats for the ogr1 arbalist? (my beloved)
Is it automatically enabled in the archive?
Uhh I do not think so offhand
I have not, but I was made aware damage worked different back then as well?
i have no clue. that was 6 years ago now.
Hmmm I haven’t noticed them except for when you told me
Meh its at the ceiling so
it's both the ceiling and floor decals like this
they both got incorrectly oriented at some point
i have pictures showing 25/82 magazine at 100% capacity, but you can't save damage in a jpg lol
Yea I’m blind so
Eva walked past me yesterday and I didn’t notice him
Like usual with their balancing
Team lets make 3 guns super op and make the rest kinda badge (excluding hel weapons)
the last time the sniper was good was ogr6.
also i think the only time it was meta
Yeppers well good things always comes to an end
Would’ve loved to play sniper ngl
Sniper sawed off sounds and is so fun
so many barcodes...
I have to have barcode mod no way I haven’t noticed this
We have a way to fix visual bugs now at least, VisorWipers
you press F2 when you get something like that, resets your vision
Wdym you don’t like playing with this?
not being able to see anything was intended back then.
it was great
(no /s)
🔥
Wish i was here for that time
But then i also prolly wouldn’t be playing it by now
i've already showed the og vs alt differences here before...
it doesn't look like it's included in TheArchiveCore or ArchiveEssentials
they butchered some stuff BAD
You know about the missing ceiling goop right
🤔 well i prolly have it enabled
no?
Yea
c*m foam
In OG, in the very well known donut room such as R2D2 or R5D1 with the scouts zone, there was that same ceiling goop. In ALT, it has been removed
I still wanna mod this into the game
you mean back into the game?
(behind the scenes it isn't actually removed it's just set to be invisible and it can easily be enabled again)
