the sanonian industries website isn't an ARG... It never was. It just stopped being updated in ALT:// and due to neglect, eventually got taken down. In a live interview, even the devs didn't know the website was down (lol). As far as I know, the website it still down.

It was essentially a compendium of logs, both ones in the game, and certain ones exclusive to the website that were released to hype people up for upcoming new rundowns back when that was a thing. With the website down, those logs are lost forever--if they aren't backed up on the wiki, which i'm pretty sure all of them are.

at the end of the day, humans are stupid.

each of the four protagonists are individuals who had some sort of power, either institutional or physical, and lost it. And not just their power, but their bodily autonomy, their existence, their free will. I think the game makes a greater point about how functional systems can excel at abstracting and dehumanizing people as -just- resources.

incidentally it's kind of why I think both schaffers are kind of sympathetic. One schaffer has a good head on his shoulders- he acknowledges the system, the warden, and the prisoners as having their own will, autonomy, and humanity. The other one rejects the system entirely, wants a clean break, to destroy everything, but i think where insane schaffer fails where sane succeeds is that insane schaffer reinforces that system, treats the prisoners simply as resources, as beasts of burden for his own ends

technically the They're not aliens line is no longer entirely accurate, depending on how you look at it. The sleepers (non-destination variants) are not aliens--they're human, they're just being puppeted and controlled by an alien organism (Parasitidae Garganta/Hammerstein) in its cruel symbiosis with the NAM-V Virus. But this is just delving into technicalities. The official stance as put in bold above is that sleepers (the human variants as those were the only ones that existed at the time this statement was made) are not zombies.

cont. The implication being; the hosts that have been infected by nam-v are still alive, and thus potentially conscious (depending on mutations). TLoA is similar in how clickers work. Only difference is (to my knowledge, and i'm not a massive TLoA lore-head), that the TLoA fungus pretty much "dumbs down" your brain and subjects you to chemicals and hallucinations to get what it wants. Parasitidae Garganta/Hammerstein doesn't do that. It skips the brain entirely, tapping directly into your neurvous system and cutting the chord that'd let your brain control your body, so to say, sort of like the NE-α Type parasite in Resident Evil 3. Depending on the damage done and mutations to the host's body induced by Parasitidae Garganta/Hammerstein, it is entirely plausible that the host's mind and brain would remain entirely intact--percieving the world with whatever senses it has left as the parasite contorts and controls their body--Now, this obviously isn't the case for strikers, because of the whole split-head thing, but becomes a much more pressing possibility when you look at the anatomy of sleepers like the snatcher, mother, and even shooters to a lesser extent, depending on how the bone-spike ranged weapons are produced/stored in the host body.

This is why when this topic comes up, I always point to the mothers. their experience would be... potentially the most torturous existence in the entirety of the game.

cont. Mothers, despite how they look, are comprised of two separate hosts. a vestigial male, and a primary female. Which rundown and expeditions do we start to learn about The Collectors?

We hear about them through the conduit in alt://r6, though.

Information about them is scattered through various other logs and well hidden.

We never see them in-game.

Another question I have is about the DNA sample used to imprint the Neonate HSU. In "Alpha" we are sent to retrieve a fresh DNA sample because the Wardens intended sample was corrupted. Does either of those samples have anything to do with the samples we retrieved in R1A1 or R1B2?

"alpha" originally was the beta mission of GTFO [the very very first one], an HSU run
r3c1 is a remake of that mission, to justify it, it says the sample corrupted

Security scans are essentially biometrics. We are slaves. Before the collapse, KOVAC would be constantly monitoring us and would take us to where we needed to be deployed. On our own after everybody in the complex is dead, we need the biometrics of somebody that matters so we can cheat our way through some of these scan doors.

Iirc the HSU we get a sample from in r1a1 was a facility administrator, someone with high level clearance.

What the hell they were doing in a hydrostasis unit... who knows.

HSUs were almost exclusively reserved for Legion members themselves.

Perhaps the ambassador pulled a Schaeffer or a Dauda and entered as a last resort to avoid sleepers or starvation?

In regards to the neonate (I'm assuming you are referring to the r2e1-r3 neonate), it was used like a biological hard drive.

The baby itself was irrelevant. We had to crack the codes so the warden could get the data stored in its brain.

That's why at the end of r3 we leave it behind to be killed during the extraction alarm. It doesn't matter anymore. We got what we came for.

(Note not all Neonates were used for this purpose, as you'll see in r7)

If you've read logs about the RISE project, you should already have some ideas about it.

It's cheaper to make test tube babies and rapidly grow them into adults than to kidnap people from US prisons to make into KSOs.

Faster too, as adults generally need 2+ years of being under hydrostasis to fully wipe their memory.

Rise was intended to replace Legion, but the complex got overran before the project could be completed.

In OG, schaeffer beats the conduit to death with a lead pipe, refusing to listen. This is what leads to his rebellion and the entirety of r7.

In alt;//, he listens to the conduit and agrees to work with the warden, so no rebellion, no dead conduit, no r7.

Alt://, or the game as a whole, doesn't tell you this or what you are missing.

It's one of my biggest annoyances

So just remember that for when you do get to r7 so you aren't ENTIRELY CONFUSED

You are spot on with r1-r3.

R5 is unlocking KDS-DEEP and creating a scenario where the warden can access the 24,000 KSOs housed inside, increasing the total number of KSOs it has access to to 32,000. (After schaeffer caused its lockdown during the collapse of garganta)

R6 is a LOT of shit.

R7 is a mix of creating a neonate to replace the one schaeffer piped' in OGR6 and schaeffer's rebellion.

You asked for no r8 spoilers, so I won't say anything here.
