active story elements are found in levels from r6-r8, though its possible to avoid those in r6
r7 and r8 the active story elements are unavoidable
depends.
the overwhelming majority of the story takes place before the game even starts.
if you are talking about what we are doing during gameplay, it is always in the background.
as goat said, it becomes more front and center in r6 and r7,
with r8 entirely being story related.
so r1-r5 are buildups leading to the âstoryâ to r6 onwards?
r1 really isn't much other than accessing r2.
r2 really isn't much until e1.
r3 is proccessing the neonate for the warden (purpose unknown, likely related to the conduits)
r4 isn't much.
r5 in its entirety is built around accessing KDS-DEEP for the warden so it can get more KSOs.
r6 is collecting the matter wave projector, data cubes, and genome database, though those plans are put on hold in OG.
r7, OG exclusive, is us remaking the conduit schaeffer piped until he manages to hack into the warden, then that is also put on perpetual hold.
r8 is the matter wave projector finally collapsing, dragging a dozen worldlines together, and us collectively trying to escape.
the writing/story in gameplay seemingly became much more important during OGr6.
rundowns before that, ignoring outliers, wasn't really much other than new levels for people to play
but all throughout the lore from before gameplay has been the bigger focus
after OG r6 and r7, they significantly toned down in-gameplay lore because of community backlash
(which i fundamentally disagree with)
people complaining about being forced to listen to the story, and such
so alt mostly mirrored OG except for alt://r6 and r8
its kind of counterintuitive to think about, that the majority would not want story in gtfo.

i mean.. I did forced my friends to play the game because I caught a glimpse of the story đ
in the remade r6, all of the logs that would play mid-mission over intercoms were either removed or converted into terminal logs
the story has its faults, but i really enjoy it.

just accept that you and I are different people and like different things.
i loved the gritty, dark, slimy nature of OG, with jank weapons and gear that made it feel home-crafted (and i mean developer wise, not lore)
i mean im not critiquin the feeling, it just feels like og rundown but with a different hug and sort of a mix of the old and new light [idk if its me or the enemies look softer]
but i think og rundown feeling is better than prealpha feeling

nothing really, the lore was explained for a dummy like me. But if i had to bring up, what the heck are the shadows man

with the amount of damaged nuclear reactors and such we activate in the rundowns, it would be slow and painful. also we're incredibly lucky that none of the almost centurys old reactors that havent had repairs in years didnt detonate on activation
not thinking of all the stuff that could've gone wrong through out the facilty, or sleepers attacking the reactor or such
would they? we are talking of like 2050s tech afterall, and id assume the part of the reactors we see isnt the actual core, which itself is somewhere deeper so it doesnt irradiate all the staff
Im 100% sure nowdays all of reactors have some sort of shield to avoid radiation getting out in case of shit going down

Schaeffer plan was a bunch of nothing

so the way sleepers are created is a sort of multi-step proccess
first, a host gets infected with the virus. the mutations caused by the virus will eventually go on to kill the host.

the hosts are still alive, unable to control their bodies as the parasite puppets them
but anyway
if a host infected with the virus then becomes infected by the parasite, due to the symbiotic nature of the two, the host will not die.
the mutations initially caused by the virus would continue under the parasite, becoming more significant and with purpose.
the parasite essentially examines the biological makeup of the infected host, and determines a form best suited for the collective hive based on that information.
this is why the overwhelming majority of strikers are male, and shooters female
So it basically picks what the person will end up as
a host that had a high abundance of muscle mass and size might end up as a charger or giant.

hydrostasis is able to identify foreign material and kill it, only resuscitating the intended recipient upon activation... it would most likely try to wake the sleeper as it would any other human, but fail.
hydrostasis kills whatever you put into it regardless... that is just how it works

i'd reccomend reading the "for dummies" doccuments in the pins of this channel. start with the unfinished .pdf, then read the .txt.
I did hear tanks and mothers are different but no idea about snatchers
they are potentially a bit more complicated... it is a bit of an unknown factor
tanks, mothers, and snatchers are hinted at not being entirely natural mutations by the parasite,
rather being coerced to mutate in that way

this is most evident with the snatcher, actually, with its first introduction being r7c1 with the room with the shattered experimentation tank

this accounted for more than just infected individuals, but experimenting with uninfected aswell
in the original worldline, he was one of the last surviving scientists in garganta. his lab was being overrun with sleepers, and he was forced to enter a hydrostasis unit to avoid being torn to pieces

nam-v is fatal within a measure of five weeks. i wasn't talking about physical damage like gunshot wounds and bruising/broken bones, i was talking about the damage of being infected every mission for the duration until you return. the minutes add up.

the warden is an alien that had survived in the crashed ship for 65 million years. we don't really know if it is good or bad. We have little hints of both. Its more neutral than anything else, with its own goals and motivations, most of which are unknown.

It's me thinking on lore and for this it was me thinking on the backstory

*We worked at santoniaan for about 12 years as a Tech support worker, While helping on a falty computer, we snooped around and read through a series of company files, that were on the various shady and illegal deals that had been happening. Leading to us being put into the kso program to cover it up and to prevent us from leaking the info to the media. Most of the files had names of various employees and criminals that had missing in the past, strange.
*The presumed Kia bit is easy to explain, RT along with 3 other ksos were sent on a mission down to the lower parts of the complex by biocom or the warden, during this the 4 came under attack by sleepers and after the completion of the missions objective on our way to the extraction point . The group had to go through the vent system to reach the evac at which point, RT fell down a short vent shaft and got stuck with no way to contact outside help, now we sit and wait for death.
I actually have a gtfo version of my sona, and a few art pieces of him, but this is the outfit he's drawn in
in terms of backstory stuff i dont have much đ the backstory I usually use for him is he was created by artificial means but im pretty sure cloning and all that in gtfo failed horribly so, unsure
u can say it was like the one specimen that worked by just aging normally instead of the fast accelerated aging that the machines did
and that the warden doesnt use those cuz they just take too fucking long

got me out here studying lore like it's a college class
gtfo excels in many parts with the lore, but some of my favourite is the enviromental story telling. Dead legion teams telling of something gone awry, the hanging bodies marking sleeper rooms and of a dimension taken fully over by the virus NAM-V, tanks made of flesh and many bodies corrupted over, the hellish noises of far off gunfire letting you know of teams out there but with no way to contact them.
The little notes you get on missions from long dead legion teams as you drop into it about what or where your going, when you warp back from the sand dimension how you drag some back with you, the spores and green gas that markes an area where the virus has notably built up, how in r8e2 as your team is trying to hold off the last sleepers as your on the verge of winning there's fire and explosions going off above you as it pulls the last bits of power to get your team out of there and to the safe dimension, the horrorifying screams of sleepers.
*the infection mechanic isn't nam-v

i have a theory on that: which is that when the virus has enough not that corrupted corpes, it moves them all into one room and does something with them.
basically; the syringes give you infection, and this side-effect is mentioned in logs. the syringes however, were shipped in from off-site so should have no possible way to transmit it, especially being in new condition and still sealed, used by mining teams

while i used mostly horrifiic and bad examples here, there is good looking stuff: the vast sands of destination and it's skies, even parts of garganta can be good looking and cool at parts, how the krakens look and sound, the guns and how they feel to wield and sound, the characters designs.
