This is very interesting...
I especially like the character art, allows me to kind of link the in-game gear to different jobs inside the complex
Now I haven't beaten the entire game (started at r6, didn't go through all of it, recently started a full completion run and already completed r1 and r2) but, if it can be explained without giving away major plot points, may someone describe the relation between the original versions of the game and the alt rundowns?
As far as I understand it is a different universe or something
allow me to explain the concept of the multiverse!
since the beginning of time, the big bang, it was an explosion, right? tons of particles fused, were torn apart, etc, everything was flung everywhere then the universe was a big pile of hot gas before it cooled down, you know how it goes, right?
well, every possible event instantaniously splits into two different universes. one where it did happen, and one where it didn't happen, and more for different varriations.
from the first nanosecond of the big bang, already an uncountable number of universes had been created.
this is prerequisite knowledge.
the collectors were a part of a hyper advanced, likely dyson sphere level civilization.
at some point and for some reason, the collectors were exiled from their greater civilization.
they used their ship and the matter wave projector to travel among these multiverses to collect species for their "Collection", hence the term collectors that they call themselves.
at some point, an outbreak of NAM-V and Parasitidae Garganta happens on their ship (while they just happen to be in our universe (henceforth called wordline).
the crew of the ship is infected or killed, and after a long ass time, their ship crashes into earth.
stuff happens, and eventually insight gets their hand on the collector's matter wave projector.
now for some more prerequisite knowledge.
every different worldline (universe) vibrates at its own unique frequency. this is called its quantum frequency. the way the matter wave projector works is that it 1) teleports you to a location in relative space, and 2) adjusts the frequency you (or whatever it is teleporting) vibrate at to match the target worldline's frequency, essentially enmeshing you with it.
(think how an opera singer can shatter glass by singing at the exact right frequency, otherwise it has no effect)
the collectors built the matter wave projector, they know how it works and how to use it properly.
after insight get their hands on it, they begin experimenting with it.
they lose entire sections of their lab and countless personnel to "glitches" with the device.
but they keep going.
with the use of it, they are able to come into contact with the earths of different worldlines
OG is one worldline, and ALT:// is another.
by r6 when we start messing with it, the "glitches" keep adding up, to where in r6a1 we get teleported just by touching the thing.
so we go to r6c1 to get the data cubes (also collector artifacts) to try and make it more stable
by the time of r6d4, even the data cubes have become corrupted.
so OG does their stuff in their worldline, schaeffer fights the warden by killing the conduit in OGr6 and has his rebellion in OGr7.
and ALT:// does their stuff in their worldline, schaeffer allying with the warden (and therefore no ALT://r7)
by this point, at the start of r8, the MWP is so fucked that it just starts smashing the worldlines it is connected to (via the data cubes), together, into the clusterfuck.
this is why in r8 we encounter both OG, ALT://, and the corpses of tons of other versions of our squad, AND bits of destination on earth in the complex, despite that being an entirely different planet too
does that make sense?
OG and ALT:// have always existed as different universes created by different choices in the past, they just were never able to acknowledge or interact with eachother prior to the merge.
(technically, GTFO's worldlines and multiverse also make anything you could imagine, including IRL a canon thing)
because any and every possibility spawns more worldlines.
like how the collector ship crashing into the earth made more worldlines where the crash happened, even though there was only one ship to begin with
its multiplying infinitely, forever.
like if it crashed a little to the left, or trillions of other variables
I tried to spoil as little as I could, but the topic in general is a brain fuck

And I don't feel as bad for losing Dr.Durant's log with the desert that we get to actually see in-game to whatever tropical place is described in the alt
That jungle planet is where alt//durant went, whereas durant went to Destination in the OG worldline

there are tons of minor differences between the OG and the ALT:// logs.
i'd be more annoyed the OG half of the story isn't accessible anymore tbh
Though I still think the way how the og log aligns with the stuff you can actually touch and see is better, more engaging and immersive

Because these are the only ones vastly different?
the only other dialogue in OGr6 is:
B1: Ef01 launch variation 1 & 2 at the very end of the level
C1: like three or four different Stokes logs talking about Ef01
CX/BX/DX: three logs detailing schaeffer's backstory prior to ksoification as the last survivor in garganta (not including ksos).
the ef01 and stokes logs are still in ALT, they are just now terminal logs instead of auto playing on the facility intercom
i believe the CX/BX/DX (now AX/BX/CX) level still contain the schaeffer backstory logs.

There was no build up. OGR6 surprised us all.
The stuff about quantum frequencies and how the matter wave projector works were covered in logs by Stokes in r6 and later.
As to the multiverse, beyond quantum frequency it is very much left to speculation, though we do have several hundred (at least) confirmed universes with details given to us in the excel spreadsheet log.
R1-R2 basically had no logs originally.
R3 I'm not sure.
R4 and R5 primarily just had logs talking about KSOs and hydrostasis
As to the story parts with the collectors and insight's experiments and stuff, that is all practically quotes from logs.

something akin to wetness is exactly the problem with what I'm doing. The mod (even if set to be as close as possible to post-r6) is giving me some crazy gunshot-grade flashes from all the tiny reflections under specific angles
it also makes the game darker (not the way it's supposed to) but that's less of a problem
I'm not sure the specifics of how the old engine worked. From what I can tell, they stripped it out completely.

what is the reason in r7d1 for doing the neonate objective and is it related to the trojan
alright, so here is the jidst.
r7a1: We are still working for the warden as normal, schaeffer is scheming. he decides to seal a door we need to get through for us to complete the objective the warden set for us. Schaeffer is the only one who can open it, so we reluctantly do as schaeffer wishes (recycle_group_7a42 or something) and schaeffer opens the door. schaeffer now has access to both maddox and henrikkson's HSUs.
Schaeffer wakes maddox, and he fucks it up. maddox's brain melts, and schaeffer strangles him out. failure.
R7b1: after some research, schaeffer learns that he needs to administer hydrokinetic fluid to prevent the neural collapse. just like a1, he prevents us from moving forward unless we go along with what he wants, and so we gather a hydrokinetic case for him and deliver it at the drop-box. (the warden's objective for this mission and future missions is to replace the conduit that schaeffer killed in r6)
r7c1: schaeffer uses the fluid to wake henrikkson and frees him from the chip that would otherwise let the warden control him.
r7c3: supposed to be a really easy mission, but schaeffer and henrikkson interfere and fuck it up royally. they are starting to figure out how to cut out the warden and free us.
r7d1: the warden has us finish making the replacement for the conduit. (if you look at the final pod just before extraction, the infant grows to an adult in seconds)
r7d2: schaeffer cuts the breaks on our elevator, sending us out of range of the warden and waaaay far from where our objective is supposed to be. we install a memory stick in a biocom mainframe, granting schaeffer and henrikkson partial control over biocom. at this point, we are being controlled by both. two puppeteers fighting over the same set of strings; schaeffer and the warden.
r7e1: we restart the reactor powering that node and successfully kick out the warden, making us exclusively controlled by schaeffer.
so in r7 the neonate is entirely unrelated to the trojan. the trojan and memory stick are entirely schaeffer and henrikkson's doing.
the neonate is just the warden trying to replace destroyed assets. maybe it hopes it can try to communicate with schaeffer again with a new unit, who knows.
but by the end the warden is out of biocom in the OG worldline.
(or at the very least no longer has control over us)

its just a product of the OG worldline rundowns being removed and replaced with the alt:// ones.
there is no alt://r7 because alt://schaeffer didn't kill the conduit, but instead listened to it.

Why are we Not using hollow Point ammunition with other guns
Almost No enemies have any Armor whatsoever and they dont pierce anyways since it is reserved for Hel weaponry
But then its only the Sniper rifle that Has hollow Points even though it is supposed to be Armor piercing

yes, this is a canon thing. in one of the infinite worldlines THERE IS A GOD, and numerous different bishops speak with him.
or he interprets the collectors as "god", thats a posibility too i guess.
in one of the logs he remembers using a needle to inject air into a patient of his to kill them.
because we are using what is left in the complex. we are half a decade on from the collapse of the human race. I would imagine all of the most effective ammunition was used first, back when KOVAC were still actively fighting back in the mines.
he commited the same atrocities in alt://, he arguably just felt more bad about it

this is all a byproduct of their rundown system where they'd delete the previous rundown when the new one dropped

it was basically just FOMO the game
they even removed guns and stuff

You need local progression to use the credits post-level, because the rundown ID has to be 35 to work, but other than that, you just label a video “credits.mp4” and put it in a folder

well, we can make several observations.
the room is full of the corpses of RISE subjects, literally piles of them, all dead.
there are HSUs from wall to wall, and even more further down the ramp to the next zone.
in the center of the room is the only enemy, a single tank.
I think it's fairly simple: the tank was in the room at the time the HSUs open, the people all woke up, went HUUUUAUAAAGHHH like we do, piss off the tank, and it starts throwing bodies.

The virus is remarkable. It appears to have been perfectly designed to infect regardless of the circumstance. it would appear that even though the virus can spread through literally any method except the vaccum of space (where there is nothing), and can survive on surfaces for weeks, it prefers to use the parasite and infected hosts to transmit itself.
