Dauda is incredibly important, probably more than any of the other playable characters to be honest.

Here is what we know to be universal:

Working at Médecins Sans Frontières under a fake name. He cared far more for his research than any moral qualms. Rutger Werner and Dean Lockwood of Santonian Ind. track him down and eventually manage to convince him to join Santonian. From there, he eventually moves over to Project Insight with Gallus Hammerstein, Rebecca Stokes, James Durant, and others to research all things Collector. As a part of Insight, Dauda was instrumental in studying the Virus and the Parasite, determining their capabilities and threats, though his work ultimately didn't amount to a cure. He conducted his tests on (most likely unwilling) human subjects. His actions were monstrous, and he hoped to atone for them.

In the Original Worldline, He was cornered in his lab by a horde of sleepers, and as they were beating down the door, he entered Hydrostasis.

In the ALT:// Worldline, he was found by the other three members of our squad, and forced into a Hydrostasis unit by Woods.

In both cases, he did not undergo the standard procedure for becoming a KSO (and as a matter of fact, neither did Schaeffer.) It is quite possible that depending on how long he was under Hydrostasis between the collapse of Garganta and the start of the game, He could retain (some) of his memories, albeit likely heavily fragmented. Granted, the trailers make it out as if during his time in Hydrostasis he is experiencing memories from different worldlines, which is something we don't know anything about and thus can't prove with certainty.

It's... disconcerting, knowing that the only thing holding back the entire ocean are these concrete walls. It feels like they might cave in at any moment. The entrance to the mine is drill hole into the bedrock. I'm guessing it's about 100 feet across. Looking into the hole is... unnerving, but impressive. None of us are excited about having to go down there. There's a smell coming up from that bottomless black pit. We know what it is, but we're not talking about it. There are 3 freight elevators around the perimeter of the opening. There's also several satellite buildings under the shadow of the sea walls: a triage center, a few military huts and a barracks, security checkpoints around each elevator, an area that looks like holding or containment cells, and storage depots. There's no people here. No bodies, nothing. If they evacuated the facility they left a lot behind - including a fueled Chinook. Captain Puente has stayed up at sea level. He said the men won't come down here. I don't blame them. We haven't found a way through their security systems yet. They're using biometric MFA protocols and multi-tiered network segmentation. It's going to take time to get to their medical records. Everything seems to be controlled by a program or machine called Biocom, but we're struggling to find a way into it. There are a few open areas in the upper levels that are accessible via stairwells. It's possible any survivors went deeper into the facility, but until we get control of the elevators and go down there, there's no way of knowing for sure. We keep hearing what sounds like motors or... winches, maybe? Lots of them. Whatever they are, they move fast. They're active for a few seconds, then silent for a few hours, then they start again.
