god imagine if the final heist thingy in DoW would be raiding garganta as the daylight/who team
"We are hitting up the Mercy Hospital in a heist for blood. The source is carrying some kind of rare virus and we need to get it out of him. Let nothing stop us as the paycheck is a hefty one. Spilling some blood for this kind of cash is not the end of the world."
Although initially considered non-canon, Day 6 of Breaking News 2018 retcons the heist into being canon. The remake of the No Mercy heist in Payday 2 is explicitly said to be a flashback, being the exact same heist as the one in the first game.
also, weren't 10cc devs for payday or pd2?
it isnt out of the question they'd do something similar for gtfo as you said
payday 2 i think
ngl on one hand it would be cool, on the other hand if you knew this games lore id say it would feel kinda underwhelming
after all, whatever progress you made in DoW wont matter as in like 20 years the world will end
inb4 DoW crew is schaeffer's original quad
lol that would be a cool one
in the ending of DoW you get kidnapped by KOVAC
SCOUT?
oh yeah they defo took inspiration from GTFO
BIG SCOUT
ten chambers might have to sue these ten chambers guys
If you think about it, who tf admissions us to the Missions past R8B4 after we betrayed Schaeffer who were commanding us? We as prisoners dont have the authority to commence our own Mission, yet alone wake us up from the cryo sleep. Maybe remnants of Warden that were Not affected by the Trojan, or its "Friends" (the Unit Guys)?
It could also be that Henrikson managed to escape Schaeffer and is now helping us remotely, but his Goal was to Stop the meltdown, Not to escape it
Unknown. It has led some people to theorise that it's our guys overriding the system and updating the stack themselves, but there's no obvious reference for it.
It even has a unique blue text, differentiating it from warden's red one.
Id say - we dont go into HSUs after B4, we just keep going deeper perhaps not even using the lifts
and the devs simply didnt bother making a diffrent/unique animation
as for who tells us what to do, id say its ourselves breaking free (i am one of the people artek mentioned)
The blue Text being our prisoners kinda makes Sense If its Like Bishop knowing how to extract the Micro Drive since he was a Santonian techie, and Dr. Dauda knowing how to remove the controllchip via MRI
Its only the entrance/Exit pod that concerns me
If Schaeffer has the controll over it, why dont He Just Stop it and makes it Go Back Up? Sure it might be due to His incompetence or Hope that we will Change our minds
Im pretty sure we outright dont use them
and go on foot or smth
and the devs simply didnt know how to/didnt want to make a unique loading animation
since it doesnt make sense how we would wake from HSUs with no one outside to wake us up
Was thinking what If we are waking Up in different KDS Depots, and we are Just doing a small Pit Stop
And its raining because Schaeffer created a Giant Jacuzzi with all the drained cooling Tank water
Does he know how to work it? I thought that was Hendricksons thing
🤔
even if he was somehow not dead -- it realy really seems like he is given the bloody ID and schaeffer's dialogue --, we'd still end up with a small case of SOUP BRAIN
Also im pretty sure B3s interrupted transimission is of the exact moment Henrikson is killed
So I might have a small case of monkey brain but I didn't quite catch why the OG team doesn't trust the ALT team? Like, why did they lie about who they were over the Hearsay Dispatch intercom and also why did they leave them to die instead of letting them join the escape? I'm pretty sure they either all do have the virus or all don't. Doesn't really make sense to me
It's not that they don't Trust them
The plan was to get with Alt tam and get out
But Schaeffer was going to ruin the OG team plan so they had to kill him and killed ALT Schaeffer in the process (or OG Schaeffer kills him)
Then they had to lie by pretending to be ALT Schaeffer In order to get the Alt team to KDS deep
Both teams did get to KDS deep but they couldn't let them through as it was dangerous on the side of the ALT team
Also keep in mind the limitations of the game
Also they were in a rush to get the game over with
A rush
Well that's just so u don't go through there
Also nothing on that other side in r8e2
The untextured part
Not the door part
U never seen a pale door before? 🤔
Righhht
Man just saw a ghost 👻
Lol
Yeah I guess that makes sense, just feels like they could've done a lot more with it, like have the teams work together as a party of 8 or have them fight or something. Instead of "oh, sorry, door no open." I still think the betrayal is a good twist but it kind of feels meaningless
No passion for work
R8 could have been lot more
What bothers me is them throwing henrikson in the back burner when half R7 was about him
Ikr
Throwing henny away you mean
Yes
Dude helps us hijack warden
Also he's dead off camera
With only 2 mins of screen time (audio)
Having to kill a newly introduced character is just bad planning
we are comanding ourselves
we removed the chips
we now have free will
also before C2 is like we are fighting against our own orders
I thought that was impossible to do?
The power of friendship 😝
Realll
"Additional resources required to expand conduit to multiple membranes"
conduit referes to the units
those artificial humans
so maybe those units weren't just a completely shitass way for the warden to comunicate with us and they actually had some abilities to see into other membranes or something
do things cross universe
The Warden was making vortigaunts?
:/
warden is secretly a nihilanth making more and enslaving vortigaunts
where is the G-Man then?
schaeffer maybe?
Guys what about the log stating that Dauda was put in the prisoner program because while being only 0,017% of all personnel, he commited 78,69% of all theft in the facility

Me when vortigaunts
That's called Skill. At that point, I would 100% just reward him or employ him. also, that means my Dauda-bot is canonically accurate, cause it keeps stealing every 100%-Medipack from me
Also, I'm sure it's already been well-documented, but I found a log talking about there being a mask absolutely coated in Bishop's DNA, despite him never wearing a helmet like that, and all of his equipment being accounted for. Could this be a reference to the Matter Wave Projector? Like, a Bishop from another universe having his equipment pushed across into this universe?
Also, on a separate note, it also mentions that Bishop was the only surviving member of a crew that went down for "EF-01", which I assume was some kind of expedition.
Yes that's a different bishop
Cool~
Ef01 was an exploration expedition which was lead by Durant James with some other scientists and KSOs including bishop
I apologise if I seem a little braindead on this stuff, still slowly getting into the lore proper

For a more coherent timeline
Kaiser my beloved
Azert my favorite
I would like to, but, thanks to silly brain things, big-document = daunting
for now anywho
Where are you stuck on?
Oh, I opened it up & got daunted by just the size of it.
Well yeah thats the point of asking “where are you stuck on”
Well, firstly, looking at just the Timeline Picture, what does it mean by "The Alt://Quad died an indeterminate amount of time before this timeline"
Our characters from ALT timeline died a long time before the events of the game (||we find their bodies in R6CX||)
Intriguing
through ALT R1-R6 and 1st half of R8 we play as an X squad who warp to ALT wordline right before ALT R1
intriguing
most people still call them ALT squad tho as its more intuitive
thats a great graph for it yeah
So, our experience of the Alt:// missions is a team who got bounced over into our timeline and are moving through, despite not being the original Alt:// crew?
Yeah
Intriguing
pretty much
Meh, they could just be the original Alt:// crew
I do not see the need to overcomplicate things
what are the changes someone warped to garganta a decade before R1
I thought it was cause the original Alt:// crew were dead?
also it wouldnt make sense that theres an X schaeffer in ALT R1D1
No, that was an earlier assomption, based off the dead bodies found at the end of Alt://R6
Which can also be found throughout R8
So it proves nothing
i mean we know they died right after garganta went to shit
I mean, one of the things for the Matter Wave Projector is that it doesn't just put you into a where, but a when too. It's possible that their coordinates were off & they got sent back?
No we don't
which is very early for there to be an MWP waro
Yes?
Schaeffers log
Its a log from before he became a KSO im pretty sure
Not really - MWP doesnt travel through time, it can only move you to a universe where some events didnt happen yet - so you could warp to an earth with dinosaurs but it wouldnt be the same version of earth that you warped out of
I mean, they talk about having tested dozens of Membranes & Coordinates. It's more than likely other universes experiencing the same thing would be doing the same things too. All of those other bodies could very easily just be other teams from other universes who got KIA.
Oh, I thought it could push them through time too,,
I don't know why I thought that?
I know Schaeffer talks about coming out in a "where and when" during the start of, like, R8A1, I think
I mean yeah, the bodies in R8 are prolly that - versions of us who were killed by the matter wave collapses or died shortly after
I mean, do we have a definitive answer on what a Matter Wave Collapse is?
Yeah but he is just referring to what i said before. It basically works like time travel just a bit diffrent
Oh, okay, I simply misinterpreted then, okay.
It seems to be a sitaution when theres a sudden shift in quantum frequncies-things in an area (hence we get warped during them)
The one at the beginning of R8 that merges ALT, OG and several other wordlines seems to be a very unique one tho as it affects several wordlines and doesnt seem reversable
Some membranes move at a slower time
Some faster
Yeah thats what i meant
diffrent speed of light or smth
Well, according to quantum principles on unobserved/unset events, technically all possibilites are occuring at once until one is selected at seeming random. I think those bodies are the alternative possibilites of the team you're actually playing. All the different possibilities happening at once, because you're caught in a weird Quantum Fluctuation
that could make sense
I mean, the Space-Time is the medium through which the light moves, and theoretically, every small change you make to that medium would change the speed of light, which furthermore dictates the "maximum" speed of a universe, everything therefore being accordingly slower than this.
Schrödinger's Cat, but the box is the Facility, and you are the Cat (and the radioactive decaying material is the sleepers, virus, and other assorted means of dying).
Wait, for there to just be some simultaneous warp, you'd basically have to have two universe's quantum-frequencies harmonise for just a second, where both are indistinguishable from one another, allowing things to slip between them (such as the terminals, or the team).
So, the Matter Wave Projector would, therefore, be able to "force" the quantum-frequencies of an area to match another one, inducing that warp without it naturally occurring. That's why it's so important to mark down the correct coordinates; it dictates the exact parameters that you have to exist in to be able to move across universes like that
Thats where the data cube steps in
Exactly!
The MWP acts like a key
And the data cubes are basically server network requests for a exact location
the MWP is the skeleton-key, and your data-cubes are the moulds that shape it to fit the correct lock
Data cubes have the cords emebed on them
Which is why the tampered is kinda janky
Yeye, that's what I'm meaning: They dictate everything about a universe that the MWP requires to create that bridge, and any slight miscalculation or error could send that bridge to anywhere
I'm loving being able to discuss the lore of this, because it's deep & complex, but surprisingly sensible
Its a cool concept but god sometimes it feels like such a mess
even though, i must admit, this games lore is very unique and defo smth ill miss
Watcha mean miss?
The game is pretty much finished atleast for a good while and after ill move on from it, i will defo miss it then
ohhhh
Yeah, makes sense
See, just reignite your passion for it: introduce more people to this beautiful hell-hole & make them suffer as we have
Yeah true
Ngl ive been trying to find some deeper meaning for the ending, like some sorta higher message
as id imagine there could be one
tuile. credit is given in the post.

we have evidence that highly suggests it, but no concrete proof. you could make a case for either. In this case, it simply follows what has more supporting evidence
"occam's razor" fuck, what was the one with a gun being shown in the first act of a play being fired by the last? that is the one im attempting to refer to here
but the only thing i managed to come up with is that: the ending shows that humans will never change, even without their memories they will still suffer from its essential flaws. In R8 we see how OG schaeffer rejects the idea of the warden helping them escape, killing all that he deems as traitors (henri and ALT schaeffer) which could be compared to irl situations where the people who want to help are killed/silenced by those who believe the only right way is to fight
alt//r6 is before og merged with alt// so.... i don't recall any of alt having ceiling rooms, for instance
and i know you HATE IT, but i will mention it again;; why have this log I saw something. Someone. It was a human, approximately. It was standing in the middle of a mass of creatures, and they weren't attacking it. The creatures knew it was there, but... pheromones? Temperature? Some kind of... social or behavioral characteristic? I don't know. Then a quad of mercenaries came through a security door and before the creatures attacked them, this human - clone; I think - reached a hand out to them. Then the creatures attacked the mercenaries, and by the time the chaos was over, the clone was dead and so were two of the mercenaries. The clone clearly didn't want to hurt the mercenaries. It was trying to communicate. It was weak and looked like it was dying, but... If I see another one like it, I'm going to try to talk to it. Him. Yes, him. Hearsay off. perfectly match the scene in cx if it isnt related at all? it literally tried to communicate with schaeffer in this same room when he killed it in the original worldline (granted far later in the timeline)
(also, i feel it apt to mention, you need to separate alt// from r8.)
If it was an alt rundown, it would be labeled as such. alt// is alternate. we have known since before alt// even released that the story would be different than the original. #game-announcements message
r8 is a 2-in-1. both merging. it makes zero sense for them to merge conveniently in the middle of alt//r6 then not mention it again until r8.
especially since the later half of alt//r6 (d1 esp) is building up TO r8 with schaeffer siding with the warden
think about it in terms of technicality. a universe completely identical but the big bang was delayed by lets say ~10 years. functionally speaking, it would seem and feel like you are going back in time, but you aren't. that entire universe was just slower to get to that point relative to yours
both have the same speed of time, time is progressing forward normally, it just didnt "start" at the same time
make sense?
funny thing is iirc there are more hacketts and woodses than bishops and daudas in terms of corpse count in r8
first couple levels only have a hackett and a woods, the later ones have full squad corpses
so where is the rest of their squad? -- points at r6cx
only roughly. it isnt touched on in-game more than a single mention or two iirc, we only see the results; that being a fuckton of worldlines merging into eachother.
as to what caused it, we can only make assuptions, as we know even less about the MWP than Insight, who were the people studying this alien artifact
that is also true, in the case of Destination's worldline especially. its a huge can of worms. some faster, some slower, some the same, some delayed, some sped up, its anything and everything somewhere out there
that doesnt explain how we talk directly to the playable alt// squad though after we kill both schaeffers.
and what about when og leaves in e2?
different earths be jank.
one all chargers, one completely drowned in infection fog... and i forgot the other one
gtfo development has ceased. the game's lifespan officially ended a little under a month ago
now it is simply playing modded, talking about the story/lore, and waiting for GTFO2
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t92zvHRhO9I also here. short interview about the end of GTFO and the future with DOW
We had a chance to talk to Simon Viklund, Narrative Director and Composer for GTFO and the upcoming Den of Wolves for 10 Chambers ahead of the announcements at The Game Awards.
Hear what Simon has to say about co-op gaming, saying good-bye to GTFO and what we can expect from Den of Wolves

i saw you typing artek, where did you go?
he’s lurking
destination is ours?
i mean og?
no, destination is a separate worldline. essentially;
Collectors crash on OG earth ---> Insight collect MWP and DATA CUBES, Launch EF01 ---> Coords take them to Destination.
Collectors crash on ALT// earth ---> Insight collect MWP and DATA CUBES, Launch EF01 ---> Coords take them to Jungle Planet (we go to at end of r8)
a fair bit of the original destination lore, (talking the original durant logs here) arent in the game anymore
i can post them for you if you'd like.
so i assume the OG EF01 are boned?
yeah sure
is it the same bishop we play as in ALT or a dead one
og bishop
og bishop returned to alt wordline?
og bishop returned to og worldline
i think you are getting confused.
the whole mask thing, that was alt// exclusive
a third unknown bishop
also here are those audio logs
Damn, feels rough. I honestly wasn't aware until these conversations. I'd been an ambassador since, like, early-ish in pre-1.0, so, that brings me some very bittersweet emotions.
I followed the game a long while, but, lost myself in other things for too long elsewhere & missed a lot of the updates
I first started playing in ogr1. half a decade ago. time flies.
I saw it's creation, but i guess I didn't stick around enough to watch it grow up, and this has made me sad.
Oh god, really? Is that how long ago it was?
r1 was in 2019
I keep forgetting that that wasn't, like, last year,,
5 years,, and what a beautiful game it's become in those years
we're not gonna talk about the list of bugs & glitches
or the mod controversy, or snipermelee, or....
I was going to make a joke about how all swedish men look like chads and its unfair, but lost interest half way through.
As I said, bittersweet: It's good to see it come to a peaceful close, with a dedicated community standing alongside it, but it's still sad to know there won't be more content
there will always be more modded content
so the repetativeness will get to you before the lack of content will
i think by now vanilla alone has what, 85+ expeditions?
I keep, repeatedly, forgetting that there is a modding community for this game, and said community isn't being roasted over a dumpster-fire for being heretics (I'm in a lot of weird game-communities)
I'm gonna shift myself & this particular conversation to #gtfo-chat , cause we're a little off the lore-topic & I don't wanna get yelled at, lol
wait, 2019 was 5 years ago???? jesus i am getting old
lmaooooo why does everlong go so well with the giant waddling
do you have a full clip of that?
whelp, this is the best i could do
if i had a long enough clip to splice with it'd be 10x better
still funny though
That giant is crucial to the lore!
unironically though, potato giant is pretty weird and he is one-of-a-kind
literally zero story/reason for him
Who said he was one of a kind

the fact he shows up during one secondary of one expedition of one rundown with a spawn distribution of 1.
he is number one
seriously though, i hope i'm not the last person in here.
this channel is basically its own little micro-community
With you being the spotlight
Only OG listen to frostty rambling bout lore
psh, that depends on how frequently people are chatting. just because i'm always around doesnt mean others cant be
i just sit and watch for the most part. dont really start convos myself
That or until some1 spread misinformation
yeahhhhh, that sucks.
You got games on your phone?
No?
but do you have phones in your game
This guy gets it

what is the point of nightmare dimension in R8? I think its under utilized.
It could be to show the player the worst case scenario, since it looks like a dimension where the complex got completely consumed by the virus (with bonus wall tentacles) and also that had a reactor meltdown that wasn't completely successful judging by the sparks and ash in the air
Mainly ooh cool new place though
r8b1 teleport
i have dementia
i guess you are right, but it seems like another case of wasted potential
Yeah I guess. I think it was mainly just to introduce extra tentacle boyos
Nope, just discord reddit spotify and youtube
Oh in my game?
What counts as "my game" in this context?
anything you deem appropriate
I know they added a flipphone in warframe recently
a functional one?
It rings, npc uses it. Players don't get to have it.
cant prank call people shame
is there any in lore explanation for the boosters and artifacts
warden wants artifacts because it hoards knowledge, it rewards us with boosters because we want them
since they're drugs
Nothing on the artifacts - they are just curiosities Warden likes to collect.
Boosters are exactly that... Little kicks to help operatives to perform better.
Although i doubt even half of their effects are canonical. Sorry, "Glow Stick Power", but you are not real.
I love glowstick power though
glow stick power is real

the prisoner simply has his immense brain damage removed and then proceeds to shake the glow stick
so the ingredients mix better and make more light
I want glow stick powers
Granted, you can turn people into giant glowsticks. You cannot change them back.
Me summoning more ammo out of the ammopack
@graceful bolt 99% of human popultion outside the complex is dead
and the rest are sitting in bunkers
oh didnt realize the lore channel is up here
it doesnt show up automatically
also if humanity is mostly dead then why do the prisoner got sent down deep to the complex to collect stuff, turn reactor etc for anyway ?
The warden isnt working for humanity
its just doing its shit
R1-R4 is mostly lifting lockdowns from deeper zones
then R5 is getting more operatives (prisoners) for the warden
and R6-R7 is creating a unit
i understand if it for going to the source of the monster like a hivemind and kill it then all monster dead
i type slow
The monsters dont seem to have 1 core individual, atleast from what we know
the wardens goal seems to have just been… to wait? And go deeper, it didnt really seem to have a goal beyond that
up until R8 atleast where its goal became - warp out most of the remaining prisoners
yes
i remember in a trailer where dauba the nigerian guy said someting about we live thousand live dies thousand time
the thing is - GTFO has a multiverse, so there is an infinite amount of wordlines with versions of the entire world and its inhabitants
Hence in R8 we see ||several versions of our squad||
ooooh
so no wonder one of the mod guy said something about the mutilworld is fucked
Yeah
i thought he was kidding
but holy shit is it really that bad
You die within 5 months of infection, it transmits through everything
and it can create sleepers which make it borderline immortal
the prisoner ?
everyone, us included
we survive cause we enter HSUs regularly
which reset the clock
the hydrostasis ?
yeah
There might be an earth that survived
infinite possibilities after all
But the chances are slim
in the end - we dont even know if our squad survives in the end
you know i will assume when the warden see the prisoner as expendable, if the prisoner we play as is dead then it would send a different indiviual prisoner to do **it **dirty work
since there no clone stuff going on
Canonically, our guys never die and clear all levels first try
we are the best squad(s)

then the other world when we dies someoneelse replace
Yeah
also if the the surface is fucked the would there be like a sequel where play as squad of "hero" working for "good guy" to save the world
the intro of mission in gtfo is where we got drop down, the sequel is we go up from the bunker to the surface
i know this isnt lore but i kind of want to ask for fun
the issue is - no cure for nam-v has been found
and after R8 the complex goes up in flames
is nam-v the name of the infection ?
Nam-v is the virus that can make sleepers and wiped out humanity
if you mean the ingame infection mechanic… we dont know
it could be highly concetrated nam-v, just some regular ass mining gasses
we have no actual answer
the "good guy" in the survival bunker send the "hero" up to collect an odd infected for the sientist to experiment as a mission
ok i stop with the sequel
Lol
the scientists in garganta had access to the best of material possible
and yet they failed to contain the infection and cure it
send the "hero" to garganta and get the stuff
Eh, considering the fact that the warden outright executes a WHO mission who entered garganta to find the origin of the virus…
there would be some problems
oh shit
ok the warden is either someone with a goal that we will never be able truly understand or just not a human as a hole
dig a tunnel to garganta avoid the warden "eyes" then dig up to garganta
is the complex and garganta the same place
yes
the warden is definitly not a human
Iirc
either an alien ai, or a full alien
hi dak
The warden is an alien
Infecting biocom, which is a neural network
Aka biological computer
Could be wrong
but iirc, biocom was made up of a bunch of linked biological systems integrated with computers to create an advanced AI, which the WRDN hijacked
Frosty would know
I am wondering where this is first learned. Is it later in R8, or have we known this?
I honestly could not tell you
I don’t remember
I dont think we ever learn wether the warden is an alien or an alien ai
its one of these
but i dont remember we ever got a definitive answer
@eternal talon
"we are of warden"
Granted the guy inside mimic couldn't speak human very well
But he's clearly saying that they are related
He didn't say that he's the warden, he didn't say that warden was one of them, he just said that they are related basically, in the most vague way possible
What's weird is that they don't appear to communicate with each other in any way, so its like they're completely separate entities doing their own things
5 weeks, not months.
It's not nam-v. Infection can be obtained from syringes, which were shipped in from off-site.
(And the whole disinfection thing)
It's not human at all. It's an alien consciousness controlling a robot/ai
Garganta goes so ridiculously far down (not even including the inner and the ship) that digging under it is basically impossible
And it's literally the size of an entire city in width (and I'm not talking rural, it's like an underground new-york)
You are not.
Alt//r6 outright confirmed it, but it was heavily implied since all the way back in the og rundowns
Oh right, weeks not months
Do extreme cold temperatures kill the virus and the parasite
Are the scientists in antarctica safe
vaccum of space was untested, but any reasonable temperatures it can be assumed it would survive.
i dont think we will ever really know, but it is unlikely.
let's hope they died fast to the virus
Would the virus have tped there or something
There's nothing "reasonable" about antarctica's temperatures, so I'm willing to bet they lived longer than the rest of us.
Until they ran out of resources. I don't imagine Antarctica is 100% self sustaining
yeah, id say they didnt get infected but eventually they ran out of food and such
True
@lilac island he mentioned food
Get his ass
food this food that
Whens it gonna be hard food
why don't you feed your curiosity and go on wikipedia
and learn about something new
and then go out with your friends and have a beer
You really think that i really go that far just for a one off joke?
Six week stale triscuits
Well its the hottest topic youve ever been in
Like am i disrespecting you?
It's just a theory that was right
Holy shit youre fast
now is the time to post a selfie in a hot topic
selfie
hot
haha
Your losing, elbow
i am hot though
I didnt say youre wrong tho
I MEANT THE STORE-
Its was a theory of both sides of our theory combined could have happened
what
Or nightmares are just a far off branch that mutates differently
I mean look at the tentacles
Nothing alike but they spur out the same
what
You heard what i asked
we have zero information so, go wild i guess
I was wondering
If the snatcher is designed
To be a hunter which it definitely is
Wouldn’t the tentacles
Like feelers that detect any odor difference in the air
Such as a snake would do (snake pull back their tounge so the odor gets sent into the core and gives the snake a wider range of vision towards anything of interest in the air)
Dont get me wrong even if its like a few levels dimmed down
It still very much differentiates the potential
I assumed that we had teleported ahead in time when we first saw them, so they're like, a much further evolution of the strain. As to how they get back to our timeline in later levels... no clue
Evolution id doubt
Maybe a more in-depth mutation
Because of the fact that the growths do not resemble anything we met before
And it literally eats out any of the charger goop
So my guess would be nightmares are there and leads to the absent of the chargers
I mean theres not much room and biomass for every kind of variation of the sleeper
One has to dominate
Towards your “nightmare comes back later levels on”
Wait is there nightmares from B3-C2?
My wording was poor, I didn't mean "new evolution," but further mutation, same as you.
I dont even remember
They're in B2, not sure about the ||other half of R8.||
Well B2 is easy to notice since you warp there
Thing is
D2 has them
So in OG timeline was long enough for them to spur up in populations?
I mean this point as a far off assumption
The nightmare growth do look more lively and more active than anything weve seen before
So it can spawn in alot if not a ton of nightmares with relatively easy and not too much bio mass cost?
Or just basically star craft II gameplay where the zerg eat and become that
Nightmare eat normal sleeper=> nightmare
Nightmare eat giant=> potato
And anything beyond that just gets grinded into bio mass
Id say nigthmare wordline joins the wordline spaghetti and starts throwing them into R8
as we see nightmares in both halves of R8 after B1
We do get yeeted tho
And yeeted back and forth
Supposedly time also gets janky and do the same with nightmares being born or yeeted through
tbh, do we even know the avrage temp in the facility and how much it flactuate between high and low?
including the fact theres active reactors and all
i mean its deep down so it should be pretty warm
true
but like how warm
i am fascinated by how the virus behaves ngl
in like a more spread concept
deep mines are like 50 celcius but the facility might have really good air conditioning (not)
you can hear buzzing noises when in a datacenter tileset
servers overheating
there are cooling tanks
we emptied one at least
for the reactor not for the facilitt
i imagine in the lab layouts theres some kind of AC cuz labs are supposed to have standardized temps
if it were hot in the facility it would explain the fog
a nuclear metldown def would cause LOT of heat
fog is humidity so the place is prob damp from the condensation
yea but the hotter the more humid it can get
true
i just feel like the virus is not used to low temps
cuz not once we see a facility with low temps
Somehow i doubt heating works down there and its probably pretty cold around the place, maybe like +5 or +10
I mean like 1000 m into the earth will be around 40 degrees
Да
Lmao
Mods this guy right here
im not good enough to carry 4 people

Anyways I go back to my development things

What can you do... They didn't gave us much to work with.
And what little they gave us probably has been dissected to shit
Like uh... Why there's HSUs laying all over the place in the final part.
Did some of them get teleported with us? And why did the survivors boobie-trapped the place? Were we not the first people to come in that way?
Honestly the "ending" was surprisingly abrupt. Feels like a teaser for a sequel, but i don't know if 10C are ready for it yet.
And if they will be... I can only hope GTFO 2 will be an improvement and will drop all the more experimental features of the predecessor.
Enough with randomly generated maps - make hand-made ones, with toilets, kitches and layout that makes sense to be used by humans. None of this AI generated crap.
I build better bases in Subnautica, Jesus Christ.
thing is with those is it takes a lot of time to make tiles and manually connect those they'd need lots of tiles and variations of those tiles
i suppose with a bigger team they can do it
Oh god no, not the bigger team. Just a good one.
Like 3 guys dedicated to it and nothing else are enough
And then you just give them time
And hopefully they take their job seriously and with responsibility
Perfect example being something like any campaign from Left 4 Dead 1. How many people worked on that? Maybe like 5, out of 30 or something total they had?
what if valve gets gtfo's title 👀
that too 💀
That's something i know pisses people off, but i personally love about Valve's development department.
They either make a banger or let it die before a single trailer
With only notable exception being Artifact, although from what i heard it was a genuinely good card game completely ruined by ravenous pricing and microtransactions. No idea what happened there.
basically every new deck was better than the base and u had to buy otherwise you'd be outclassed
and i dont think people expected a card game from valve
Yeah, that was a weird one. Oh well. We burried it, they burried, gone and forgotten.
They have 3 major multiplayer games still alive and kicking today and all the rest of their single player titles are crazy good including Alyx
I need to free some extra 10 GBs on this here SSD and i can test how my 3060 will handle that thing
Playing on 1060 3GB was a disgusting experience
10 fps?
Pretty much
sounds pretty nice
😂
I don't know what they did to it, but the second it appears in my FoV - the FPS tanks to single digits
"Oh god, another one"
"Alright..."
deep breath, a gulp
"Just get your mag upgrade and get out"
gotta pay a triple A price to play a tripple A game
can only imagine what horrors you saw
To be fair that's what Valve do. They try to break new frontiers. Alyx is a genuinely good VR title, really makes a good use of the features available.
id even say its the best VR title yet
Probably the only 2 things i can criticise is the fact that combat is forced into a crawl (which seems to be a thing VR has to do, because reasons), and the fact that there are no two-handed guns in there. The pistol grip was just much easier for them to work with.
I believe that was the assumed reasoning behind no Half Life 3. Both of the previous Half Lifes are responsible for breaking new ground and changing the landscape of shooters in their ways.
They were hoping Half Life 3 would do the same.
And it SEEMS like they were hoping to put that egg in the VR basket
Actually reminds me of the 3rd criticism
Which is actually very relevant to this here chat, as it knows all to well the pain of... Multiverse and time-travel adjasent shenanigans
The Lore of Alyx gets fucking crazy in the end and retcons the 2nd most important event in Half-Life
thats kinda obvious, we see a giant part of KDS has warped with us, in R8E1 we see that part completely missing
Right, fair enough.
As for the traps… i kinda assumed it was for whatever wildlife exists there
but yeah the traps are defo kinda weird still
and the ending is a bit abrupt thats for certain
yes -- in fact, half of the entire warehouse got teleported with us. easily several hundred at least
we dont know for certain that DEEP does not have multiple of these warehouses. in total, DEEP had 24,000
in fact -- we know it has at least two
since the r5 warehouse has an entirely different entry to e2
simple math is 6,000, but who knows.
so there are two of those giant rooms that we know of?
2.5? perhaps many many more.
granted the instance below isnt from kds deep
r7a1 where we do the "recycle group 7a42" command
in a terminal
does it says on the objective?
its the terminal after a security door
its the only security door you can acces
ya, its the room that we put "recycle group 7a42" in as a command
it doesnt say what room it is though, just that is a security zone i think
the picture directly above you is where that is
If the whole storage does all the transportation of the said HSU pods
How does it goes from storage to other places then
dont have any pictures, but it has got like a crane thing that moves individual hsus off the shelves and up/down and out of sight
Yeah that ik
But moving from place to plce tho
Like from storage to labs ig
why there are such a large hole in R8E2?and how did the boss from r6d1 come here?
Wordline merging shenanigans.
One of the krakens from destination (desert dimension) got warped into the complex, most likely destroying whatever room was there and then sat there till we showed up
I would like to think it’s been there for much longer.
Ultimately there is no way of knowing, though given the fact that the arena is --identical-- to alpha one on destination, sand and all, id like to assume it simply got warped over
I don’t know; I mean sure the terminal area is similar, but a lot of the arena seems much different. I’ll have to take a second look
The bottom half is inaccessible but still visible iirc
Maybe the noclip is misremembering. I only ran through it once
Almost entire KDS DEEP get teleport.no idea why they boobie-trapped the place. The ending in R8E2 is call EF-01 which is where Dr. Durant and Bishop explore other worlds using the Matter Wave Projector in the alternate worldline which the team arrived to a vibrant jungle world apparently devoid of any Sleeper threat.
i wouldnt say entirety of KDS gets warped with us, it seems to be just a small segment from what we see in E1/E2... also im pretty sure artek knows all that
but in r8e1 the team enter the room and almost everything gone.idk tho? maybe you right.
KDS surely streches out much further if i had to guess, we even see like corridors leading away in E1
i doubt there were 24K pods in that one room
What do you mean they trapped the place?
there are traps everywhere
In the ending of e2?
yes
I must be blind cause I didn’t see them
Oh
Still sad, for remaking Schaeffer and Henrickson's relationship in R8. We had a good team to stand up to Warden and get out, too bad things have changed so much
wrong chat?
🙏
After replaying r7c1 and hearing their conversation it’s sad knowing where it heads. Schaffer sounded genuinely concerned about Hendrickson to make sure he was alright
Yeah! They were a real team. Schaeffer hadn't seen a living person, especially a friend, in a very long time. Their dialogues were well done. Too bad he went abruptly insane in R8.
Well I mean he had Maddox for a couple min, but after that interaction I think he was on the verge of a mental break
what is warden protocol
The "Warden Protocol" is a term used to describe the physical or digital body housing the Warden's Consciousness within the BIOCOM system.
neat
"Warden Protocol" is a relatively old term that was used in-game, prior to the reveal of its nature as an alien -- back when we used to infer, and the evidence suggesting, it was simply an alien developed AI much like biocom was.
what is biocom?
I'm at work rn, so don't have the most time rn, but I'd reccomend reading the "for dummies" document in the pins of this channel for a fully summary of the lore
To answer your question as quick as possible (since I gotta clock in), it is an AI that was developed by KOVAC to run and manage their KSO quads and the Hearsay System
😎
I'd be happy to answer any questions the LFD doesn't when I have time, just post and ping me and I'll get to it eventually
bet
Also R7:
"did you Just activate a lockdown procedure round them???"
"Bro i dont know what tf i am doing, it was all because of you"
R7 schafer and henrikson dynamic was so cool
especially moments like R7C3
or R7D1 - „what the fuck is a proxy?!”
so i just went through all the R8 logs on the wiki and im kinda dissapointed. is the wiki missing some or is that really all there is?? like wtf happened to the daylight mission. (unless they where simply the guys who got shot in the R8 text log)
They are the ones we shot yes
in R8D1 theres even a log of the warden giving ALT squad the mission to execute them
Interesting
Not sure if that one was on the wiki or if i just missed it
Why would it give that order though?
I understand it’s relatively “good” as a character but i dont really know its true intentions still. I know it wants to help schafer and the prisoners (for some reason) but aside from that i have no idea really
nor do we really
probably it didnt want them messing with anything
a bit yeah
overall R8s story was decent but could have been way better in my opinion
Idk if its just because its been so long since ive read anything on gtfo and i havent really taken in the bigger picture, but it feels to me like theyve just shutdown all this really interesting lore and story they had going
I agree
Like Henri and schaeffer relation, that had soooo much potential
I read a lil of ur conversations before
Didnt understand how exactly you meant tho as i only read a few sentances
even if they wanted to make schaeffer insane in R8, henrikson could have had much more of an effect outside of - say 2 things and get killed offscreen
Also which dimension is the one weve been playing in the whole time? The normal R8 levels, or the R8 secret levels
R8 as a whole is a wordline created from like a dozen diffrent ones merging
Alt and OG merge, plus a bunch of others we dont have names on, destination seeps in a bit, so does nightmare wordline
Best guess is - too much using the matter wave projector
but we dont really know
Also back to schafer, i kinda hate him going insane all of a sudden, like i get it kinda makes sense with all the shit hes been through. But what was the point in making his character this whole time only to do that
Yeah ok
true, it would have made more sense for him to go insane mid R8, like he finds out the surface is dead and has a mental breakdown
but well, we got what we got. Atleast gameplay wise R8 did a great job and the story could have been better but atleast was decent
Yeah fair
I wouldnt know lol
Dont have a team to play with
I just really like the story
The abortion Logs tho
unfortunate, you can solo a few levels. And i guess theres youtube too, a decent amount of people posted R8 vids
lmao
Yeah wtf
They where weird and random as fuck (i think)
Well like you said, we got what we got
I just hope they build an equally good story in den of wolves
Game looks sick as fuck
(Maybe with a bit better storytelling though haha)
Yeah
DoW looks promising
i hope its story will be as interesting as GTFOs but maybe a bit less confusing
So far it was implied that our Players are prisoners...again. 10chambers must have a Kink or someth
Somehow I doubt it. Looks like it's going to be just another "big corpo bad" , maybe even "capitalism bad".
At least that's the vibe I'm getting.
The tryhard edgy masks are a cherry on top.
Too early to see of course, so let's wait and see. Either way I'm not interested in the game.
Im hoping they take it in an interesting direction
question, does anyone have any clear voice lines from schaeffer from D2 or any other R8 mission?
There is Hearsay archives, but He doesnt have any of the R8 stuff
i’m a fan of their stuff, but they haven’t uploaded any of the new lines 😔
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sMONwL465ec only vid out there that i know of
0:00 Woods
2:22 Dauda
4:54 Hackett
7:31 Bishop
So did the warden know what was happening with both teams in r8e1?
im guessing yes
It defo knew about ALT team
but we have no idea about its knowledge of OG team really
I was gonna ask why it didn’t say anything to the alt team but with the og team being disconnected I guess that it wouldn’t know what they would be up to
very true.
Playing r8c1 for the first time and hearing Schaffer pleading with us is almost saddening, like dude just doesn’t want to be left alone. Then again he killed Hendrickson so
they paid a voice actor to voice less than 30 lines of dialogue
sorry cuz he was caught red handed fk him
we are talking abt E1/E2 so... after
still sort of sad hearing him plead with us
then he will be either deeply unpleasant to interact with or an absolute lad to take out to a curry house for some banging chicken tikka masala
i use bat occasioanly
What If...Garganta is in UK, and sleepers are Just average Birmingham residents? (have you Seen their theeth?)
the complex is actually in the mythical land of Liverpool
and the sleepers are average english football fans
the true purpose of garganta was to contain them
Its Just a Hospital. They are waiting in Line for free health Care
Anyone got a high res pic of Schaeffers face?
bruh what
From his corpse in R8. I've got a theory and I'm too lazy to replay through the level
I think they straight up just retextured Wood's face and gave him dumbo ears lmao!
yeah
Woods and Bishop share the same face. Hacketts is also vastly similar. 10CC gotta cut corners where they can
Never heard of 10CC reusing assets
Omg Jason Statham reference
They look like him)
are all the rundowns seperate facilities or is just the same one getting deeper each time
Same facility. We just stop on different levels from the elevator.
Not exactly "deeper each time", but it goes mostly by layers
same facility
so it just goes deeper and deeper then
right
or does it not
yes
so why do the final levels drop to like 900 meters when their are deeper ones in earlier rundowns
is it just different parts of the facility
is that what the facility is called
is iridium really that valuable
yes
damn
it was a really REALLY big deposit of iridium and other minerals
then wouldn't it just drop it's value if they found that much
not really
iridium is really weird
why
im not sure
and i dont want to say fake info
so i think its better for you to investigate
I mean
If you control the worlds supply of something, you can also control the price
Withhold a bunch, keep prices high, live in your market because what's anyone going to do about it? Out-compete you?
lol
no one would be able to compete since iridium is extremely weird
i read somewhere it was around 2 Billion dollars worth of iridium? (In GTFO)
maybe more
i feel like this might be a previously answered question, but im wondering how those holes where we extract or get sent down thru are created. like they feel they were created via some brute force? any ideas?
so, right
Massive laser beams shooting from the earth did them.
I think it was an alien spaceship that fired out a bunch of energy beams
oh...
because people tried to send a signal/message into the ship I think
I can't quite remember, but it's something like that
Not quite.
and the hsu depots were just conveniently placed on top?
Mr "Big Brain" Hammerstein decided to play a sound sleepers don't like on loudspeakers. For science.
Sleepers got omega mad and aliens intervened to prevent the facility from being completely overrun.
In fact, based on some logs about heat signatures incresing in the depth - it seems they were specifically preparing for that event.
yes
wait no
maybe?
idk
unless they somehow move the same HSU to another lift
yea
its a different one most likely
these are some funky questions lol
since theres different lifts
mb
Most certainly different.
ah ok
Every rundown is a separate hole.
No direct confirmation, but its implied by rundown selection screen.
and some missions are at effectively the same depth too
so you're definitely elsewhere in a very big facility
yea definitely, i still cant imagine they built this thing so fast
dreyfus has some mad cash
i feel like thats a little bit small considering that at that point in the future inflation would have dropped its value
I dont think thats how it works at all
as Pachi said
when you have control of the supply of something you can control the price
maybe but i feel like 2 billion dollars in iridium today would probably be worth like 900 million in like 40-50 years
also do you know how much 2 billion is?
we dont know the state of the world of GTFO at that extense
🤷♂️
true
there are plenty people in the world with 10x that amount of money though
that doesnt mean its not a lot
good for them
but money is money
at this rate, 😔
if a mining company had the chance to strike 2 billion dollars in an excavation
they will obviously take the chance
ik i just feel like it wouldnt be enough to build an entire underground city for it
true who wouldnt
i was gonna say it would probably be based off real-life sized mining facilities but then again the chicxulub meteor was comparable to mount everest
as far as we know
Santonian mining company is HUGEEEEEE
so they probably have the money for that and more
imagine this but as big as the base of mt everest
yeah so no way it's only one hole in the ground
$2863 per troy oz when they started digging.
~$300 billion worth of iridium was detected. (Though most was actually cretasum-77a)
Sorry I'm late
@royal crow @long glacier
Also here is the size scale of garganta
Also another random thing is like, would be really cool to see how the prisoners actually get extracted
But I feel like this shifts from lore channel
All in all I think while extracting they are just waiting for the hsus to drop down and then just pop in and go
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
In ideal wold we would have an animated sequence of getting into the pod and the lift shooting upwards as monsters pile up in the edge of the hole.
Kinda like left 4 dead does it with Final escape cut scenes.
Yea
Cuz it kinda feels weird having to scan, like shouldn't the warden already know?
Yes that's what I am assuming
That doesn't explain why it stops if you leave the scan.
We have to just throw this one into "game being game" pile
I may be misremembering but I think someone said it WAS that way in super early alphas (not the alphatest that we got to play)
10c cutting the good shit once again
Like, you had to hold E to get in the pod and then you'd be invulnerable and it'd play like what you said
Perhaps I'm just remembering wrong
There is no escape pod. It's a one way trip. The extraction scan is the time it takes to syncronize your cortex interface with the warden. Once the signal is received, the prisoners explode, explaining why in many rundowns the whole team is not required to complete the scan. Each team is cloned and stored in KDS Deep to complete further rundowns without risk of infection or spreading infection.
I'll remove my tinfoil hat now.
its too late for you
nuke his house
Damn that's deep
300 billion holy shit
there is no such thing as og squad
aside r1a1
maybe the scan is confirming that at least one member of the team survived and then sends the required amount of hsus down
this is just memory imprint theory all over again
this people are cooking something
could be
it is way more friendly to think that all prisoners are retrieved for redeployment
esp cuz of the non-sleeper "ghosts" that schaeffer encounters
"ghosts"?
Are you talking about the mimics?...
you mean the mimics
I think at this point it is just chad theory that's accepted
i think so
but im not sure about their actual name
its the clones the warden makes to contact survivors in the complex
To be fair in the million membranes there's eventually a squad who survives through sheer luck
I kinda wanna believe that the ALT rundowns are in the same worldline as the original and are just a different section of the complex, but there's not really anything going for that theory + r8 sends me its regards
i think that clone theory doesnt work solely because the warden also uses the scan to confirm that the prisoners successfully secured objective items
it is statistically possible
Yes, that's them. Clones, units, mimics... What the official name... The Conduits?....
yea conduits
mpu, neonatal, data cubes, etc
they absolutely get picked up after missions
as far as i can tell
the conduits dont really have proper human features
they're described as being human but not
I mean you can literally find its' corpse in a couple of levels
they have a human body, they speak (weird but they speak)
Its humanoid, but one of the lore log insists that they are, by definition, not clones.
100% artificially bred, from scratch.
this makes more sense
its hard as balls to design something thats perfectly human from scratch
At which point i have to ask why humanoid
If you could shape them into literally anything... Isn't there superior forms?...
theyre grown from the neontal hsu babies arent they
im assuming its to pique the curiosity of survivors
so they talk to the conduits
i guess so it can be easier for them to come in contact with actual humans
and talk
and stuff
They are. Who are also 100% artificial, or at least should be.
Hey, at least there's no horrific child trafficking going on.
r3:
andrew tate has expanded to garganta
arent the conduits grown from the neonatal hsu babies we handle
yes
correct
that would explain the humanoid form
❌ Unethical science experiments.
❌ Brainwashing.
❌ Forceful imprisonment.
❌ Playing God.
❌ Getting humanity killed.
✅ The child is not a real child.
havent reached there yet
but im excited to watch the (not) child grow
they grow up so fast ❤️
