@gilded vine i didn't realize there was an e2. I retract my original statement
Gentlemen, let's mourn alt Schaeffer
๐ซก
damn, I'm now so depressed because devs decided to kill Henriksson and all Schaeffers, why devs didn't made Henriksson learn about alt Schaeffer, so that they can join forces or something
ye but some nerd from jungle planet is alive
I'm really astonished how alt Schaeffer couldn't bring a foookin gun
Not like he had any clue he'd run into his psycho doppelganger
I think the real question is how does Schaeffer get around security doors and sleepers while we have to do scans and fight hordes like plebs
Don't forget schaeffer was also in charge of building the walls
Hi, I'm sorry, I don't speak English well, there may be spelling errors.
Why did we interact with the child in chapter 7 and what happened to Schaeffer and where did he go, and if you can tell us what happened to the main characters behind the scenes, were they killed? Maybe they were quarantined first? Is it worth waiting for more information about the gtfo world?
Schaeffer is dead
both of them
ALT team died at the end of R8E1
and OG team went to the jungle planet at R8E2
we dont know what happens afterwards
and there will be no new information
the story is over
its joever
:c
:C
Oh my God, this way for nothing?
?
But the warden, what is it?
an Alien AI
I thought it was protocol
I mean, so much suffering and not getting information about what happened next
eeeeh
we survived
at least
also its most likely we die
from NAM-V
I don't believe we missed that one
But if Schaeffer died how and under what circumstances?
I'm sorry that I'm stupid
But where is the answer to the question of why warden children
Besides, what would make clones
R8 spoilers: ||For those who found the secret terminal in A2 || -- ||what was the point of Mr Truth's log -- is it a troll? Kinda looks like the plot of a film...||
warden made clones
to communicate
to others
especially Schaeffer
And second 8.0 question for those who finished -- ||anyone notice in the last atrium the ceiling is all upside down? In a way that would not be physically possible. There are prisoner bodies too up there||
i think its just an effect of the matter wave fucking
Yeah, I guess we saw that a bit as the sand and black stones start to merge in with the facility in other expeditions.
a2?
you mean a1?
๐
:P
It has to do||with time lines collapsing or something||
so I have not finished the rundown yet, but I have a few questions.
- why do the aliens that created The Warden want to save humanity
- do we ever go to the inner/ alien spaceship in R8
- has it been revealed why the aliens crashed on our planet and brought NAM-V with them
- what was the origin of NAM-V
- were the aliens using BIOCOMS and project insights resources to find a cure to NAM-V (as was hinted in R6's objective). thats the only reason I can think that the aliens even care about humans in the first place, to use our work to find a cure for NAM-V
- if there is an infinite amount of world lines, then at least one of them should have humans on it with no NAM-V. So why are the aliens even worried about saving humanity on the OG worldline if there is another worldline with un-infected humans.
1st:they dont
2nd: no
5th: theres a theory they wanted to find a cure but they dont care about humanity
6th: they dont want to save humanity
why dont they want to save humanity? i was under the impression they do
guess I should finish the rundown lmao
so why are they helping schaeffer and telling him how to use the MWP to take us to a clean membrane
if you pay close attention
the coordinates of the data cubes lead to a not clean dimension
they were probably leading ALT schaeffer and ALT team to a trap

how does e1 end
ALT gets left behind by OG team and dies
OG team takes the data cubes of ALT team by saying they were schaeffer
then Og team leaves without them
E2 is the same but from OG team perspective
I'd be laughing my ass off if this their way of moving the characters into Den of Wolves
But idk any lore within DoW
man
Bishop in Den of Wolves when
we need to keep someone who spends his time friendly firing everyone
im 100% sure they will put a reference of GTFO in DOW
nah
Inb4 gun manufacturers from gtfo now in DoW
ey that would be cool
and would make sense
if theres infinite world lines
one of them shoud be DoW
That ending voice line though at the end of E2
Leaves GTFO at a cliff hanger
Kinda
yeah
we probably die eventually from NAM-V
but eh
we made it out at least
we touch grass
so the aliens were not taking to schaeffer ???
i still dont understand, if the aliens were talking to schaeffer and telling him how to use the MWP to transport us to a clean membrane, then why did u say that the aliens dont care about humanity, when clearly they do for some reason because they are helping schaeffer
k
again
thanks for the explanation, i just don't understand how the aliens play into all of this besides them being the reason humanity is dying as they brought NAM-V to our planet
then they give schaeffer directions on how to send us to a clean membrane? does not really make sense to me
anyone got an answer for question #3?
maybe
they didnt wanted to help us
and they were using us

nothing really points to them helping us to survive
I mean they gave schaeffer access to the BIOCOM database so he could figure out how to use the MWP
so I mean without their help, The Wardens help, we would have never survived
well
we stop following the Wardens orders
we free ourselves
also
We follow schaeffers orders, who is using information from the warden to make his decisions.
well
Schaeffer dies in D2 and we start acting by ourselves
@finite vine the coordinates that the warden gives to schaeffer to ALT team are coordinates to a not clean dimension
then OG team has to rewrite them to the clean dimension
which ends up being jungle dimension

wait, I get it now. The only reason The Warden (the aliens) helped us and schaeffer, is because I guess schaeffer freed himself and was a threat to The Warden. so then the warden was just like hey take this MWP and get tf out of there so I can keep doing the shit I wanna do.
then that leaves me with these question, what tf was The Warden trying to do in the first place, from the start of R1 to R8
ah ok
hey you got half right
the wardens can comunicate beetwen worldlines
yea ik
after what happened in OG timeline where Schaeffer gets the warden out of control
the other wardens might see us as a danger
Frosty is typing
the data cube coordinates they gave alt//schaeffer to use did not lead to the clean worldline. we know this because in the second half of r8 while playing as OG, we have to rewrite them with information from the Insight labs. (god that 10 uplink sucked ass)
bro the 10 uplink was amazing
we have none.
IMO and from what we are shown, i believe it is designed for us to assume it is trying to get rid of schaeffer before he has the opportunity to turn out like OG schaeffer
(wardens from different worldlines can communicate)
but as is, the warden's true "goals" are still mostly unknown. it kinda dropped everything it was doing in ogr6 and just didnt start up again because og schaeffer took control.
could someone explain to me again the difference between the alt timeline and the og timeline?
I was under the assumption that after we plugged the trojan into the warden in r7, we were transported back to alt r1 by accident, then went to alt r6, then were transported back to og timeline for r8. which means how did the warden survive the trojan?
(we don't have alt//r7 because alt//schaeffer never killed the unit it needed to replace and because alt//schaeffer never had his rebellion)
No r7 continues with r8a2
ok that makes so much more sense lmao
false. r7 is from before even alt//r1
r7 is the last piece of the og worldline
?
(that is still in the game)
I think JisH meant r7-> alt r1-6 -> r8a2
oh
so from what we now know, we play as a completely unknown version of our squad in alt//. our og squad never moved over. they stayed on OG, and when the matter wave collapse got too bad, eventually all worldlines got merged into one
We have to unless this story literally makes zero sense
we do, this is irrefutable given the second half of r8.
alt// is an unknown version of us
in og, warden did not survive.
ok so progression is:
OG timeline: R1-R7 -> R8 A2-E2
ALT timeline: ALT//R1-6 -> R8 A1-E1
second half of r8 has schaeffer commanding us pretty much effortlessly, and we break free from him and biocom also pretty much effortlessly
Seems like it
(we remove our neural chips even, before the end)
yes.
k that makes more sense
giant ass mri machine
from then on, we have no warden intel loading into levels, and have no orders at all
damn i gotta play the rest of the rundown lmao
you gotta figure out the level "objective" by yourself
so cool
kinda confusing at times tbh
๐ฅ
ok so im guessing the wardens objective is to find a cure for NAM-V. or they just want to research it. it seems like they find great interest in the research humans collected on NAM-V
again, we dont really know for certain as schaeffer intervened.
i'm just disappointed they killed henrikkson off so early.
literally didn't even notice he had died until someone mentioned it
schaeffer says "what is done is done" something like that
and we never hear of henri again
well we know they (the aliens) don't want to save humanity, as they tried to trick the alt group.
they tried to make more prisoners through the RISE program (R3 & R7)
they tried to get more prisoners (R5)
they also had great interest in the NAM-V research project insight did (R6)
yes.
yes.
yes.
yes.
so it seems like the main objective they had was to conduct research on NAM-V. every other objective was just to access more resources in the complex
you could have said yes x 4
we know they were in exile, so whatever it was wasn't as major of an effort by the collectors as a whole.
maybe they were trying to find a cure for it to buy their way back into civilization?
why were they so interested in NAM-V?
why did they crash on earth's in hundreds (who knows how many actually) of membranes and bring NAM-V to earth.
true, but they could have just transported their species to a clean membrane
they probably got infected, everythign went to shit and crashed
both as of yet, and probably forever unanswered
their security network failed too, since the gun never went off until Hammerstein was fiddling with frequencies.
no answers.
just cool invisible enemies
completely unexplained.
(at least i tried to do something with them in pt with the contaminant)
not really "Invisible" but yeah
10cc have given us no answers to what they are on about
something really bad might have happened then
interesting
sabotage?
Or maybe the aliens did it on purpose so us humans would research NAM-V for them lmao
we know the gun didn't discriminate. when it went off, it targeted ALL signs of sleeper / infected biomass
the aliens: we do a little trolling
thats interesting
**Dr Hammerstein,
The trace analysis on the residue found in the shafts after the October 12th event has been completed. It was mostly molten rock and metal, the composition of which confirms the blasts were high energy focused QGP streams, at a temperature that was only thought to have occurred during the Big Bang.
According to the BIOCOM navigation data supplied by Mr. Piros, the streams appear to have been deliberately targeted at areas where security operatives were engaged with the creatures during the attack. The QGP streams originated from the Inner but the creatures had by that point overrun much of Garganta, which is why we see such a wide spread of shafts across the facility.
Interestingly, none of the shafts created by the QGP streams caused flooding in the facility. The streams stopped short of the seabed, except for several shafts which penetrated the seabed within the perimeter of the sea walls, so no flooding occurred. This seems unlikely to be a coincidence. Unfortunately, one of the streams did hit the helipad outside hangar 3, which is where Mr Clinton was believed to be. His death would have been instantaneous. The results suggest this was a weapon. Whether it was aimed at us or the creatures is not clear, but it did turn the tide in our favor. Kovac drove the creatures back to the Inner shortly after the blasts (or the creatures retreated voluntarily โ we only have a single Kovac report to go by and that paints them as the heroes of the October 12th event).
The trace analysis has left us with more questions than answers.**
**1) Who or what fired the streams?
-
We have created quark-gluon plasma in hadron colliders, but nothing even close to this power or temperature, so how were the QGP streams formed? Is there a machine or artifact we have yet to find?
-
This level of exotic matter control is beyond our understanding of the physical laws of the universe, so how was the intensity of the sub-atomic streams controlled?
-
Was the purpose of the streams to kill us, or the creatures? It worked in our favor to control the onslaught, but we lost hundreds of people in the blasts (though some may have been lost or taken by the creatures).
-
If the purpose of the blasts were to kill the creatures, why? Does something else see them as a threat?
Nolan Connor B229**
Ok hold up am I going crazy
There were aliens in this game?
Unless we are referring to the sleepers
Both.
I just finished R8E2 and the closest to aliens that I was aware of was the Clone
There are many different species of aliens.
Which I assumed were the babby things we made in r7
Which I also assumed the warden directly controlled
But god damn how much have I gotten wrong
This game has such interesting world building, but its so difficult to actually find it all lol
The collectors, the floaters, the kraken, the virus, the parasite, the 600 different species from different universes in the inner....
Have a read of the "for dummies" document in the pins
^
Community resources. Has been avaliable and has been updated every rundown since ogr6
(Doesn't include r8 stuff yet though)
I'd be happy to answer any questions it does not.
Lol
So all those sleepers in the tubes in the Research Labs were Collectors?
No.
If you are talking during gameplay, every sleeper we see in a vat was once human
We haven't ever actually seen any of the collectors or other species Hammerstein found in the inner
Ahh, I just read that Hammerstein put them in formaldahyde so assumed that was it
The vats we see around are likely the result of dauda's experiments on humans
Before hydrostasis, he was trying to find a cure for the virus via human experimentation. Needless to say, he was unsuccessful
Pretty cool
So I assume that one audio log of... Stokes, I think? talking to a lady who like
sounds like her body splits open, is someone becoming a sleeper?
Also damn, so much cool information and lore that we never ended up seeing in game
omg
ppmom extra lore
:O
where is that log
im too lazy to actually look for more logs about the woman but i am interested
yk what if pmom isnt actually pmom and d2 is pmom and the other 2 moms r something else lmao
What about
The final jungle
In R8 e2
Why did not have time to watch it
Any picture
Of what exactly we are watching or where are we ?
Or if we can see durant
I think I have a theory
For this we have to assume that the aliens wanted to do experiments with the virus or just kill universes the og rundown we can consider it the universe where the virus had appeared , so that might be the reason why they were interested in Garganta complex on og r6 because they might consider the humanity the only specie that conducted a proper research on the nam-v virus but as in real life in order to cure a virus is very important know and research the patient 0 which maybe is the reason of r6 D1 extracting the genoma in alpa 1
They might wanted to find a cure
To create the perfect bioweapon
I think that they did not want to trick the alt prisioners
Because as long as we know the wardens can communicate between universes so when the alt warden realise of Schaeffer uprising he used the alt Schaeffer with the deal of escaping alt universe , but why the did not the warden try to kill us , as it would be easy just unlocking sleeper doors ? Because he might want the virus to spread to another universe maybe because he obtained all the necessary things with the genoma in alt 6 ,.but why to universe 714? If technically the warden doesn't exist there , Maybe the aliens are there or something
Or maybe exits some complex or human organisation , let me explain. In the final phrases Durant told us : you are in a restricted area don't move , you are surrounded everywhere
But why , if they are only an expedition , or what's the point of that expedition then ? Establish and advanced outpost , maybe that outpost had the warden AI in order to coordinate them , so maybe alt warden communicates that to warden in order to "make the preparatives " for the arrival of prisioners or even the alt warden was sent to the jungle clean universe , I said this because when we are in the final of R8 E1 after the mwp it says warden security measures deactivated this can led to three results
-The warden has died because of the meltdown
-The warden has turned off itself because it's mission has completed
_ the warden has disappeared because it no longer exists in that universe
Also the jungle universe is strange , Why are there traps , is because that universe is dangerous or it was all prepared , ? Another thing strange is why did they use kds deep as tp, because we know that there is another mwp zone in r6b1 which is more safe
I think the conclusion is that the warden wanted us to leave that universe for some reason but I don't think they wanted to help the humanity maybe they helped us because we were the specie with most knowledge os nam-v virus
im here for lore logs.
KDS deep has a lot of HSUs with people and moving them all somewhere would be a pain. After all, schafer did want to get out with as many people as he could
Which one?
Hey guys, how are you? I'd like to start reading the lore logs, but I don't know the correct order to do it, can you help me figure it out?
I dont remember, but I do remember it being an audio log
you could likely find it by going on the wiki and searching
"Show you"
Cuz im fairly certain the last thing the women said was like, "Let me show you"
but its been a bit since i heard it
i wish they leaned more towards like The Thing-esque horror
like us hearing or maybe even seeing someone transform into a birther, or sleepers being formed, etc
if its an mri machine wouldnt stepping inside of it with our guns and equipment be really dangerous then
cuz thats exactly what we do at the end of the mission
i assumed it has something to do with the darkness since theyre always in dark rooms or appear when the lights go off its still weird theyre basically borderline invisible looking at it realistically without game logic
Completely made up explanation:
The matter wave projector changes the frequency you vibrate at to move you to a new dimension. Shadows are sleepers that were mildly shifted by the matter wave projector, not enough to fully enter a new dimension, but enough to be slightly off ours. This is why light interacts weirdly, and why they move slower. They are on a slightly different frequency than us.
ooh, I want to make up an explanation too
wow this is a pretty good made up explanation
It's all assumptions and inferences though
Shadows are sleepers which have been exposed to enough radiation that all of their tissues sloughs off, though the virus and parasite keep their form, giving them an ethereal appearance, and that's why you can find shadows in quite a few places close to reactors
but when you have nothing to work with, you can make anything plausible
i think shadows are lowkey kinda hilarious if you watch them through thermal scopes they waddle at you in a funny way
see also: funny alien cloaking shit or something idk
So the shadowy stuff is just what's left over?
Intriguing theory
it would be according to my totally made up on the spot explanation
i think shadows being a bunch of small particles can work to a degree because theyre alot slower than normal strikers
could be they cant move too fast or else they fall apart
funny how a dead shadow will visibly melt away.
Seems like a lot of work if Scaeffer could just, y'know, cut it out...
Finished R8 and oh god the loose ends. So many loose ends...
I also don't understand -- ||After the teleport to the forest dimension did a huge portion of KDS deep come with them? As well as the portal room? Given the virus is in all of that, would teleporting half of the installation kinda defeat the purpose? I assume the comment regarding boobytraps by Durant implies maybe that was there... prior... maybe? ๐คทโโ๏ธ ||
||Also, uh. Didn't the "aliens" indicate that they didn't find a dimension without the virus? How was there one just lying around in the cubes somewhere?||
alt scheaffer actually tells the alt team that we don't have the virus
which is unbelievable
maybe sleepers don't actually carry the virus or something, i have absolutely no fucking idea how or why
||I thought it was a false end -- one of the logs mentions the incubation period can be upwards of 12 months? I think, given how they just killed off minor character, wouldn't be surprised if the virus came with them||
yeah we don't really know
Some people have been complaining but yeah it seems if you are in this channel, you know there's spoilers...
carrying namv with us is a very big plot hole
As is "aliens just let the whole thing happen"...
we're still covered in sleeper fluids as we go there
im pretty sure that none of this is really a plot whole
I would say its moreso that we, the player, might know
But our four survivors absolutely do not
there is no way they dunno
they know its a virus
they're not that dumb not to realize
Youd be surprised on what the high of 'oh fuck we need to live holy shit so many sleepers' will make you forget
They should've pulled a SG-1 style plot and have us jump around dimensions to find the one with the cure and take it back...
That'd at least be a better end.
they all wear masks and have 0 unprotected skin
Either way, even if they are infected, and know it
They probably dont know that the like
couple hundred HSUs that came with us are too
Also is it possible to survive r8e1 or is the canon ending that the alt team are just dead
oh absolutely
we die
impossible
in R8E1 the game will spawn 5 tanks
the level ends when your life ends
like 5 minutes in
however
i have to say
if we didnt fight sleepers we have an amazing advantage against the virus
Oh hang on. Wouldn't Durant also be like. Very dead?
not necessarily
also idk what the fuck durant is doing there
that timeline is supposed to be unexplored
we just casually ruined his life
yup
lol
prisoners dont have to eat or drink
or poop or weewee
our masks and full body covering stay on permanantely
that's why they're so filthy
and nothing enters our body
I mean they technically do but hydrostasis lol
yeah that
Basically alive for only an hour at a time (depending on how good you are at the sgame)
but we DO get attacked by sleepers
I mean -- if time in EF01 runs fast. Like 115x faster -- And he went, say 2055, and the rundowns are around 2063... The guy is 920 years old. ๐
I dont think we are in a universe that we know
At least, unsure
Also, didnt it imply the matter wave projector could technically send up back in time
There is a non zero% chance we didnt just send us to the start of the timeline again or something
i dont know about that
Ah I mean one of Stoke's logs specifically says "Durant's is some place that is 115x faster." (paraphrasing)
I'll spend a little time adding the logs to the wiki ๐
Wasnt that speculation from where Bishop, i think, was sent?
I barely remember myself
I think that was for the og timeline where he went to desert planet (destination) instead of jungle planet
so what if the infection was mixed in with the infection in the desert dimension???
cuz the kraken has alot of tumors + infected starting growing tentacles
so maybe when the researchers entered that dimension they infected the world there as well and eventually mixed together to create a super virus
huh
were does that super virus idea came from?
well
the normal infection came from the meteor right??
so what if when the researchers who were infected went to the dimension
they spread it there
the dimension was already infected
ohhhh
the sleepers were already on that plenet
well the only sleepers we see are nightmares
the fliers and squidwars we see were species from that planet
and a common theme on that planet is tentacles
thats why im thinking they combined together and created weird mutations
well
NAM-V is a virus and a parasite together
also what are the nightmares you are talking about?
Is it confirmed that fliers = sleeper, but not on a human hosts?
the new monsters
yea sorry
the sleepers are the virus and the aprasite together
there
There we go
those are just weird mutations

but what caused them to grow tentacles????
mutations?
the only place we've seen tentacles constant is the dimension
desert planet?
yea
well
scouts exist
It is to be expected
The male variant has their insides turned into 1 big tounge
also those tentacles monsters we see
Wouldnโt be surprised a female variant has that tentacle mutation
might be just a more advance infection process
Gorelings (nightmare) are much more mutated
Because they are also under the effects of radiation exposure
Such as stated in R8B1
oooooh
Where our guy Schaffer was wondering boit the opening bulkheads
god damn i missed that detail
Same thing can be said
About the flyers
But theyโre primordial creatures
With maybe hundreds of thousands of years in evolution
I'd have guessed that the flying guys were part of the meteor (and maybe parts broke off, infecting other planets), or they got to Garganta via one of the wave collapses.
Quite frankly not
They are already there
From bishops/Dr.Hammersteins warped adventures
Bishop was literally gen 0 (the first to step foot on that cordinates of the teleportation)
And those bastards was already there (took em a few months to face them)
So you might not be wrong about them originating from the meteor
But
The kraken(real primordial beings)
Gives birth to the flyers
And as before we talk about them having similar stuff to squids
Id too would guess that the planet that we set up the alphas had a better past where it was teeming with life and amazing faunas
Kraken's on earth too...which also makes little to no sense
Yes because of the tether broke
R6B1 warp gate compromised
Just think it as dimensional rifts
Space pockets
Zips and unzips
That certainly would explain how sand, and all kinds of other things, starts appearing around the place. Just tears up tears pulling stuff through
Could be time passes
R8B2 does this kinda obvious
Where youd get pulled back in time
I kinda feel the writers are messing with too many concepts here for any of it to be coherant ๐
Plus bummed the prisoners killed the Daylight team โย I though they were heading in a "save what's left of the world" direction with that arc.
Well
You have to have R9 or R12
Just to explain all that
i think the protagonist were just trying to save themselves all the time
they just dont care about humanity
theres no saving it
In one of the logs its mentioned they were given the orders by the Warden
So not like their personal issue with the WHO
๐
So much time spent editing that wiki...
damnit gtfo. creeps. chills. (r8b4 zone 160)
Guessing its a sequal to this; https://gtfo.fandom.com/wiki/ALT://Rundown_6.0_Logs#7JH-02P-EWG
But never really explained further...
lore
AMERICAN BULLETS BEAT EVOLUTION
not really a sequel to that
voice 1 just indicates a log with more than one voice of unknown identification
the new log has to do with an enemy in d2
itโs a lot about a woman who is basically forced to give birth to a sleeper
log*
and during that process she basically tries to cut herself open
but it seems like due to other logs she may have failed and ended up turning into this giant mother instead
the mom is like a regular birther but massive and can attack by itself
it can also spawn strikers and babies
itโs basically just the only โbossโ enemy weโve gotten the rest are more like mini bosses
and it likely has something to do with schaeffer
and as youโll notice the newer log takes place in 2053 where garganta was still performing lab experiments where as the other log is from 2055 where there is actual spreading of nam v on the surface
yes with what we have there is 0 full explanations essentially itโs all up to interpretation
things could be touched on a lot more but i highly doubt we will get anymore major updates asides from an ext if we are extremely lucky
is that really who killed them? I didn't connect that.
there's a log in D1 of Warden dispatching our crew to physically ban them from Gargantia for the crime of using a terminal
I personally think Schaeffer is both... the Protagonist, and the Antagonist
we are a side plot
rather disappointing really, I hoped they would uncover something interesting before getting gunned down and/or eaten
Thats all we get lol
No more
I gotta say I'm still not seeing a clear explanation of how did our crew develop capacity for independent thought again
at one point they gunned people down without a second thought because the Warden told them to, but seven years of further pickling in hydrostasis they're suddenly open to working with Schaeffer
have you done all R8?
i have a big feeling you didnt
if you're referring to the control chip removal, that happens way after the issue in question develops
1st of all
we have our own minds struck to us
after the first contact
that wasnt AI made
2nd
we arent exactly "memory wiped"
the only evidence of ones doing so is the doctors that interviews Hackkett and bishop
3rd:
the stack updates like i said yesterday
it updates on the same page as anyone has in the whole sector
so if anyone got their hands on the stack they can do as they please
...sorry, I don't quite see how any of this answers my question.
thats my gather
itโs a completely fair question
we couldnโt even kill ourselves due to the chips and yet without any removal we followed schaeffer off of a morse code banging of the word hello
all i can think of is hearing some other person kinda unlocked memories for them in a way some sort of free thought when they realized they really had other people around
and we already know schaeffer knew to destroy his chip due to his experiences prior to being taken by warden
he had a lot of inside knowledge from artus about the whole thing and about kds deep so strong warden couldnโt get rid of it
we were all pretty important personnel or atleast had some very triggering backstories and i think that unlocking memories or free will basically stems from having something that clicks inside your head and makes you realize youโre not a robot
really weโre just forced to work i donโt think we ever really wanted to do any of it
what else do you do when youโre kind of stranded with no memory and all you have is 3 other people and a hud objective
i kind of hope that helps
warden couldnโt ever really have full control of prisoners without making them basically vegetables and reprogramming them
really just a sign of hope can create rebellion because you realize it isnโt the only authoritarian power that exists
for even more example dauda literally remembers the sleepers are his creation and feels bad for them and feels fear about seeing them
he doesnโt know why but his guilt is so strong it really canโt leave him
thereโs also a reason theyโre all so calm with doing any of this itโs because theyโre used to being close to death and are familiar with the complex itself
thatโs how schaeffer knows where vents and bunkers are because him and artus used to sneak around all the time and he used that path already to get to kds deep before he had gotten in an hsu
also we never make our defiance clear, schaeffer never lets his tracks show and we kinda just follow him
he plans his own stuff around what the warden is doing to not make anything that obvious
๐
there is that bit in the ALT logs that Schaeffer noticed the KSOs started calling themselves prisoners first and the Warden just went along with that
yes they have a conscious they just physically cannot go against orders
they realize theyโre kinda just doing stuff for someone but donโt know why and are kind of just robots
itโs like an ai realizing it isnโt real but like ๐คทโโ๏ธ whatโs it gonna do about that
that's the thing though, they were basically biorobots and we got plenty examples of that from the logs, both the main timeline and the ALT.
but come game proper they certainly behave a lot more like normal people, there is (cut) dialogue of them expressing curiosity about their predicament and surroundings and even reacting to their Kovac "interviews"
yeah likely because it unlocks some kind of deep memory i mean you notice in the startup there are error memory files which likely entail some sort of corruption within their programming
meaning the injection didnโt 100% work
itโs pretty hard to remove someoneโs entire brain wiring
I can sort of hypothesize that either they adapted to long-term effects of hydrostasis or the Warden just couldn't feed them the same cocktails of mind-numbing/altering drugs Kovac seemingly did
yeah that exactly
memories are very hard to wipe and warden likely didnโt have the resources to do that
i donโt even think kovac could have removed everything
you still retain stuff like skills and all that meaning you have to remember some stuff
sure you can target parts of your brain and memory wipe people but itโll never 100% work without basically turning people braindead
I get the feeling that "memory wipe" was never the point of it, it was just a side effect of hydrostasis Kovac found a use for
in fact, "wipe" is a misnomer, "damage" seems more appropriate.
thatโs exactly correct ๐
warden probably used the same tactic plus that honestly
who knows maybe warden didnโt even do it completely on purpose
itโs possible that error is literally the hsu corrupting memory files
i mean we know we donโt get memory wiped before expeditions we just retain our knowledge
meaning why would warden even do it in the first place? maybe so people really wouldnโt lash out against their team mates? or so they wouldnโt attempt to rebel or look for certain things?
i mean we all learn who eachother are
evidently that latter part doesn't quite work all the time since Schaeffer happens
I think in this particular regard the Warden just basically rolls with things as they happen
Just going to drop this here in case there is an answer, as I'm wondering if I missed a log or something like that
Do we have any idea what happened to Boris Stanovich, Eric Chapman, Andre Piros, or other secondary characters who only appeared in Logs? I realize that these characters are all almost certainly dead by the current events of the game, but one of my favorite things IN GTFO has been seeing the cast of characters dwindling down one at a time. Gallus Hammerstein dying in a failed exploration, Igor (I forget his name) and Andrew Clinton's failed little conspiracy, etc etc. I realize not all character plotlines can be concluded and that some characters only exist to add more flavor to the world, but I was kind of hoping for a payoff with the Medical team since they seemed to be some of the most competent and well intentioned of all the characters and Piros since he was so notable a KDS leader
So, which is it. Do I just miss their fates, or are these guys all off screen fatalities
Did we ever confirm that warden is collectors? Like what's the resolution there
I kind of get that og prisoners sort of screw over alt prisoners
Schaeffer kills Schaeffer then we dump the coolant on schaeffer
But what becomes of warden?
(collectors)
I think it's pretty explicitly said by the collectors via that proxy clone that they are the Warden/in control of the Warden. Makes sense in retrospect too. The weird bugs and glitches in Biocom (like the guy entering the closet) and the way it was trying to access areas not usually tapped into (reactor control) all indicates an experimentation with and attempts to push the boundaries of the system so they could use it for their own goals
Plus, I'm pretty sure it just goes offline In the Valorous last stand of the Alts there's a message that just says "Warden defenses deactivated." As soon as the Collectors had what they needed, they probably just switched Warden/had Warden switch Biocom off. No more need for the tool
I have a q. Exactly when og team learned about alt team ?
I'm trying to remember which exact mission... B3, I think. There is a moment where you hear Alt!Schaeffer tell the Alt!Team what to do for the previous mission (B2?), and Schaeffer freaks out and says the message must have been a Deepfake of some sort. That would have been the first moment they knew there was another team out there, though I'm not sure they would've necessarily known they were alternates of themself until Schaeffer started talking about how they were "other yous" during the MRI section where you remove the Control Chips
Yea but us passing the message thru comms in c2 came before us removing chips
Idk when we figured the other team has tools to escape
Probably the moment they heard the aforementioned message. They knew that the Alt!Team was doing something with the MWP to try to escape, and didn't want to stick around for the destruction of Garganta with Schaeffer. So they started sending the messages in Project Insight, removed their chips, and then ultimately GTFO'd
Yeah I just double checked. They overheard Alt!Schaeffer in B3, heard him say what data they were looking for and where it was, collected the data before the Alt!Team arrived (hence why it was missing when Warden was searching for it, perhaps?), cut the deal of "we help you, but you help us escape," got MRI'd, and then dipped when they got the Data Cubes
Maybe it got glitched out, or something else. However, you definitely do hear Alt!Schaeffer's plan and Schaeffer flips out over it. Real "ignore the man behind the curtain!" type moment
What's the lore behind the dev that designed R8B4
? Are they secretly Satan?
i bet satan hasnt completed it main only..
I would guess that โย everyone that is not a KSO and can go into a HSU โย is dead. 7 years passed between the outbreak in Garganta and the start of GTFO. There was a log called 000-000-000 and it's a giant spreadsheet of 30k names โย if you do some database magic on it, you find that everyone who is not a KSO is either "unknown" or "deceased"
The spreadsheet is very old, but I wonder if any of membrane ID's correspond to the R8 ones...
I assume "unknown" means that they've become a sleeper โย or maybe jumped between dimensions โย or just dead and otherwise untraceable.
I've been thinking about this โย There was mention that the KSO's could retain some memory (instinct) like using the C-Foam to seal doors โ which was behaviour that was not imprinted on them. But I think its simpler than that, the Warden gives objectives and the KSO's follow and one of objective was blocked by Schaeffer, so helping him would let them complete the objective. But it does feel like a plot hole, not sure that applies to every interaction...
Figures. I would have expected the same, as even Nolan and other survivors who were entering HSUs probably WEREN'T in the KDS Deep chamber (as you can have HSUs separate from it, and we know from gameplay that even in its WORST states Garganta's security system made sure people couldn't access sections they weren't cleared for), Logs indicate that Nolan and anyone who survived the past few years probably died in a suicide mission against the Inner Kraken, and Sundown/The WHO team didn't encounter any survivors before they bumped into the Team
I more was wondering if we got a definite conclusion to the mini-plotlines of things like the fate of Howard Stokes (though him being dead is virtually guaranteed) or if Eric became friends with Boris. He did make a very persuasive argument, after all
Is there a good video explaining r8 lore yet
The short version is that there was some sort of Matter Wave Collapse that led to the main and Alt!Timelines collapsing into one common one. As a result we have two copies of the same team following two different Schaeffers, an original one trying to destroy the facility because of deep seated daddy issues and an Alt!Schaeffer who is trying to save the fate of humanity by sending what few uninfected humans remain to another dimension.
Over the course of the Rundown the original Team shuts down the Gargant Reactor Cooling system to trigger a meltdown, before then going rogue, taking the MWP, leaving some messages for the Alt!Team (which they think is coming from Project Insight survivors), and then ultimately escaping to the clean dimension (which, as we learn in the end, is Durant's). Meanwhile, the Alt!Team spends the time collecting the data needed to make the jump in the first place but are ultimately left behind by the original team
There are plenty of questions which I don't know the answer to, though. For example, what exactly the Neonate HSU was used for. I think it was meant to codify some data regarding the human genome of an uninfected, but I don't know why they would've needed that and may be way off
R7's neonate was used to create Unit 23
R3's neonate may have been used for the same purpose.
R3's neonate was used because they needed a certain genetic sequence for security clearance
it's why instead of hooking it up to an R7D1 machine, we hooked it up to a device that reads and stores data, which then we're able to bypass the security locks with
the Neonate HSU was probably going to be used to create another vessel for the Warden to speak out of
we know that The Warden was trying to use Unit 22 to talk to us (or specifically, Schaeffer) and explain everything, which is why after Schaeffer kills it, our objective is to rush and find what happened to it
Ahhh, that does explain it. Unfortunately, I didn't make that connection before now. Explains all the KDS lore logs about the accelerated growth process and its consequences, now. Though it is morbid to think that the "Biological" part of "Biocom" apparently meant using babies as glorified flashdrives and keycards.
biological remote controlled robots immune to infection and ignored by sleepers.. wrdn on legs..
it almost pulled it off but ran into schaeffer who didnt get it. what happened to u27 in alt-r6 and why did "we" kill it, dunno
the thing im most confused about is that there's two wardens in r8
surely the alt//warden would have been able to tell that there's something fishy going on
there is 2 wardens?
didnt the warden from OG timeline died?
I think that Pable is right. Henriksson and Schaeffer basically turned off/hijacked the original Warden, so I don't think it would've interfered with the Alt!Warden. There are a lot of question marks about how exactly a "Matter Wave Collapse" works (for example, are there two of everybody now, did only some things make the transfer, or were some things simply "merged" like the room we see in A1) and if the Original group entered the Alt!Dimension, vice versa, or if they hybridized into one new one, but those are questions that it'd make sense we may not get an answer to IN universe since the only person who seemed to know anything about that would've been Alt!Schaeffer
I still hope we get some answers to these questions, though
I'm halfway tempted to go rambling on about my specific speculation on how Matter Wave stuff works based off of what we know from Stokes and some Quantum Crap but I don't know if anyone wa nd this is the LORE channel and not the SPECULATION channel so I'll temper myself
i would like hear your speculation
this game leaves a lot of questions

frostty says it best.. timeline noodles get meshed into timeline spaghetti
(or was it worldline world- .. anyway)
wordlines
it was more like taken over, wasnt it?
it would still exist per say just now under control and hacked into
keep in mind schaeffer didn't hack into warden, he hacked into biocom, which is separate, since they've been trying to delete eachother for years
er, biocom's been trying to delete the warden, the warden's just been trying to get it to shut the fuck up
lmao
Forgive me for how insane my rant is going to come off as
Okay, so... first off, short summary of relativity. "A thing at one point may not be the same as a thing at another point, but both things are still within the laws of physics." If you're moving faster or are near stronger gravity sources, time moves slower for you in a process called time dilation. This is a thing you can see in a lot of scifi movies and shows (most notably, Interstellar). What looks instantaneous to me may look slower to someone else.
For example, say I was in a jet and bounced a ball off the floor of it. For me, it may look like the ball just went up and down in a straight, vertical, line. The shortest possible path. To an outside observer, though watching the Jet pass by and seeing the ball bounce, it'll look more like a U or V shape since they see the vertical AND lateral movement. Both of our observations make sense RELATIVE to our positions. Now replace the "ball" with "beams of light," and you see why relativity is a must in Physics
Now you add in Fermat's principle. Rays (notably light) will always follow the quickest path from point A to point B. This is a big deal, because it indicates that (in some interpretations) that light somehow has a way of determining a path of least resistance BEFORE encountering it. Since light is the fastest thing in existence, you can see how this raises interesting questions about predestination on a quantum level.
The Matter Wave Projector operates on these two principles, albeit on a multidimensional level. The first one is relativity ACROSS DIMENSIONS. The Speed of Light in one dimension in GTFO is not necessarily the same as that of another. Durant's dimension has a speed of light around .008% that of ours, which can be extrapolated to mean that a second in our dimension is just shy of 2 minutes in his. Now comes in the MWP.
In theory we only encounter one in the original GTFO dimension. The Durant MWP and the one we use in the Original timeline are the same. The Alt!Timeline may complicate this, but
considering the collapse and Bishop returned with a MWP and ANNIHILATED another Bishop (as we see with the helmet found under the platform in a log) I think there's a good chance that we are actually looking at ONE Matter Wave Projector in the end (though the dead Bishop couldn't have been either Alt!Bishop or the Original one).
I'm getting a bit ahead of myself with that speculation though. Let me back up a bit.
In the same way that Light may predetermine the quickest path, the Matter Wave Projector shifts at specific moments that correlate ACROSS dimensions because of the interaction of waves between dimensions (See Stoke's discussion on superpositions). To an outside observer like Stokes or even an INSIDE one like the players these may seem totally random, but for the MWP this are key transition points where it MUST go from one dimension to another per a certain "transdimensional causality." In laymans terms: what for the players is randomly picking up and shifting between dimensions, for the MWP is "a fulfillment of the prophecy long foretold."
The interesting thing about this is that the MWP seems to respect the relativity. The amount of time spent in one dimension may not be observed as the same amount of time in another (Bishop returned with the MWP after a few months missing, but Durant reported that they'd been in the dimension with an inactive MWP for years), but the key thing is that the time at which it DOES transit from one dimension will correlate with the arrival at another. More than that, while the MWP by itself will transit in accordance to dimensional superpositions, you may need to program it to transit if you want to go to a SPECIFIC point, such as to Durant's dimension in both cases.
This is all to say that, in GTFO, the rules of multidimensional travel are quite clear. Each dimension has its own relative speed, but can interact with eachother via quantum waves of "correlation." The MWP will always enter or exit it at these correlations.
This, finally, leaves a collapse. A collapse is another thing Stokes sort of discusses but is VERY vague about. So, I need to speculate a bit here. Feel free to take this with a grain of salt
Imagine two thin pieces of paper. Draw a picture or just a bunch of random lines on one of them, and then another DIFFERENT picture or another bunch bunch of lines on another one. Hold them separately, and you have two dimensions. Maybe they look close to eachother, maybe not. Next, cut a small corner off of one and then move it over to the other, and that's basically what the MWP does when it takes you to another. Now, overlap the two sheets, hold them in front of a light, and look at the new image. THAT'S a collapse.
At best, a Collapse is a merging of two virtually identical universes that still yields a very SIMILAR final result. This, I believe, is what happened at Garganta in GTFO when the Alt and Original dimensions collapsed. There were some things that didn't align, like certain rooms (A1, most notably), the Schaeffers, and the team, but ideally the two entities either merge into a single entity, OR one of the items annihilates the other and becomes the only of that entity in the dimension. Otherwise, you get something like in B2 where the dimensions mismatch and overwrite eachother
To return to what I mentioned before, I think that this is what happened when Bishop returned from Durant's dimension. There were different Bishops, and each one had a MWP. They returned at the exact same time, to the exact same point, with (what would then become) the exact same item. One of them made it through safely, MWP in hand. The other was left as a bloody helmet wedged under the platform.
This is a bit of a messy hypothesis since it'd necessitate four different Bishops, but the lore has made this a messy situation since we know for a fact that there was a Bishop helmet found in both the Alt and Original version of the Durant exploration, and so means there WERE four Bishops.
There. That's it. I hope this isn't seen as spam by the Mods. Tried to make all this as clear-yet-concise as I could
we also find tons of corpses of our squadmates through r8.
for example, our dauda, alt//dauda, this dauda, and that dauda.
and i'm fairly certain there are more i'm just not remembering or didnt take pictures of.
og, alt, destination (the sand and crystals), the corpses, the nightmare dimension, there are at least a dozen different worldlines merging here
not just two noodles.
Mhmm. If I recall the team we find in that final room of D1 or whichever mission this was from only had THREE corpses as well, so it could be that we encountered a team missing a Bishop (which would be kind of funny)
it would have been funny if they just made one of the squad of corpses just all clowns to show how insane the infinity of worldlines truly is
Mhmm. Or one where there's a Schaeffer corpse wearing prisoner gear with the crew to show how there could have been entirely different team comps
But in any case, I am pretty sure that in the end we are looking at only ONE WMP since we only have the one during the final missions, and that the reason that may be is because with every collapse only one WMP would've survived the annihilation. It wouldn't necessarily make sense for there to have been several WMPs, since the whole point is that there is only ONE which is jumping across dimensions
A universe where the bots don't try to headshot you with hcp???
Don't be silly. Some things are interdimensional constants. Like the WMP
:V
a universe with sniper-melee
With?
was a very notorious bug from rundowns past.
:P
In heaven not getting sniper meleeed
But seriously, does my outline of how the MWP and GTFO Quantum Mechanics make enough sense to be legible to others or is this just nonsensical word spaghetti
a universe of femboys.
:P
That's a shirted bishop
why is he doing the giant scream animation
yes, but the picture is funny. its like he's flipping a table in anger
It has an animation?
Never noticed
:3
your life is incomplete
you have never seen a giant raise his arms and scream in triumph
Yes
btw anyone knows what the fuck is the deal with that one security door lilke 20 meters in the air on a wall at the end of R8A2? (Dunno if its there in A1 aswell, it probably is)
Yes
its time for your 5km walk to the objective KSOs.
There's one in one of the a2 rooms
its leg day fuckers
A1*
Its prolly thr same room from A2 then
R7c2 my beloved
I hate that level with a passion
But sec was funny
oh my god...
Idk what else does
i just found something
Wait no
what the fuck is wrong with dauda's leg
nowโฆ why the fuck is there such a door
D2 leads to 55 or smth
Never crouched too hard?
unreleased version of the crouch
sprint crouching
aha, i found it!
this is how we know we are infected, even with hydrostasis between missions
(this is also what the warden/biocom sees through our chips)
@eternal talon what's the lore behind the floating mom artefact
this is just a meme. there is no canonicity to this and i seriously doubt it is in the game
It's my screenshot
uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
where
(standard)
looks like a stomach to me
maybe a bit of an atypical shape, and I'm not sure if you're supposed to be able to see the GI tract on an xray
but it looks like you can see the heart and stomach and that goes into intestines, which also seem a bit weird
I think that may be a respiration tube
Hmm
can we talk spoilers here ?
Oh that is very bad
yes. gtfo-lore is exempt
what happened to henrikson
let me start an old version of the game and check
physical.... ??
cell deterioration?
Second says "Physical Functions(?)" and third "Cell Det- yeah
killed by og schaeffer.
Off screen
But he's definitely dead
and arent we infected
with only a single log of dialogue
wont we infect the new universe ?
yes
also yes
rip
As is deserved
so
uwu
whats the wardens deal then
ehhh, i kinda liked henrikkson
to spread infection ?
I'm joking
Me too
:P
The opposite
yeah but
The Warden didn't intend for OUR group to be the one that made it
M
fuck you mean no?
Nuhuh
frosty what do you think of the ending
wardens communicate.
alt//warden sees what og schaeffer did to og warden.
schemes to get rid of alt//schaeffer to prevent the same thing from happening.
lies to alt//schaeffer.
gives him coords to an infested worldline, probably to a fight he could not possibly win half-life Gman stlye.
og squad gets datacube data from insight hq, rewrites them to ACTUAL clean worldline.
alt// and og schaeffer fight
og squad drowns them both in the sewers
pretend to be alt//schaeffer.
steal data cubes from alt//team
leave without them
just bullet points
meh/10
7/10 for me
i'd've rather not genocided a clean worldline. would rather try to reason with the schaeffers and alt// team, breach the surface, and die up there on our own terms
we were gonna die from nam-v anyway
leaving alt// team behind was a very mean decision regardless of outcome
sadly no. alt// team dies, og team goes to a clean worldline, infects it with nam-v, and dies anyway
Just to be clear, we KNOW the main group is infected, right?
yes, a million ways to sunday
Whaaaaa
Doesn't that mean everyone in KSD Deep could be infected too?
there are like 6 ways they would be 100% infected if all the other 5 weren't true
Whatttt
only the class-f ksos.
(so some of them)
Well then it seems like Warden had a flawed plan from the start
How do kso classes work
warden didn't really have a plan to save us.
they wanted to get rid of schaeffer.
@eternal talon so what is alt wardens goal?
it needed to get rid of us, and it did it quite well
except the part where we cause a meltdown
we dont know. probably the same as og, but both changed plan because of schaeffer's actions. he is gordon in this analogy
The other possible ending to Half Life.
Whats wardens plan actually
we dont know for sure. only theory.
Wack
it works for the collectors andโฆ does smth i dunno
That I'm skeptical of. The Warden/Collector Unit is definitely an unreliable narrator, but the WHOLE POINT of everything we had been doing with the Warden and our missions had been to try to collect data for a safe/uninfected realm. Alt!Schaeffer was useful as a tool, but if original Schaeffer had listened it may've been him who was helping
Probably wanted to send Schaeffer to nightmare dimension :P
Just a simple fade
Was there an OG Henrikson ๐ค Guessing he was introduced in the ALT rundowns
Though I do agree that I don't think it was EVER the Warden's plan for the team to escape. Maybe it was a coincidence and the meltdown caused KDS Deep to start blowing up (as I think it is mentioned in lore that KDS has its own reactor system nearby), but I wouldn't be surprised to learn that Warden just wanted to use the Prisoners so it could ge the non-F KSOs out and that when it realized that the original team was about to escape it tried to abort the whole process and destroy everything
Also
Sorry, but the collectors themselves say they collect the virus. Their goal is a worldline with 100% infection, so their solution was to send schaeffer/us away and to have us destroy the mwp after we leave
In an hsu
Yes
How tf did alt squad and og squad end up in the same universe
Not sure if collecting the virus and 100% infection is the same goal?
Ohhhhhh. Yeah. I guess I just was confused by what they were collecting
I'm just saying that's what they tell schaeffer. The log is in alt//r6. You can find it on the wiki
It's a whole ass conversation
There only WAS the OG Henrikson in Rundown 7 and 8. If there was an Alt counterpart, he was never let out of HSU
Bro honk mimimi ing
The matter wave collapsing after repeated improper use. Eventually turning the worldlines (noodles) into spaghetti
Spaget
The more i think about it the more it all doesnt make sense
Its like
I just explained how it works
Puzzle pieces that have been smashed into the puzzle to make them fit
that's not a real rating
if you rate something as 7/10 then ya didnt rate it
6.9/4.20
I would have been super happy, if instead of this kinda sour ending, we jumped a few dimensions into different versions of complex trying to find the one which found the cure. You could wrap up so many of the story arcs doing that... You could have levels where the outbreak is starting, where the complex has been left 100 years, help the daylight mission, at the very least find out what the inner was or what the massive enery blast was...
Might eventually pull together a wiki page on loose-threads.
There is no cure
Welp
there is a cure
Thats another thing what happened to them
OG henri is the only one we ever see, ALT henri is most likely still sitting in some random HSU
Real
To whom?
Henri
They die. R8. Killed by our characters.
Yeah
They got killed
Yeah, I just uploaded the last of the R8 logs. Let me find them
It's in a Log
Daylight
Henri IV ๐
How
Is it the log in D1 that mentions the warden giving us an order to kill 12 targets?
When they die: https://gtfo.fandom.com/wiki/Rundown_8.0_Logs#Missing_Log_ID
The prisoners orders: https://gtfo.fandom.com/wiki/Rundown_8.0_Logs#WKH-N2E-TAZ
Did you not play the entirety of r8
Logs are from both D1 and B4 -- which implies Daylight was killed in both OG and ALT timelines (not that they're mentioned in the OG timelines)
What did you expect?
Yeah, I was bummed about it. The writing is not giving any closure anywhere.
i was expecting them to die to sleepers
or bail out
I guess its possible in OG they never get sent/arrive at the complex
What is dumb is that, in another log, they mention they already accessed the medical records and trying to go deeper. So the fact they're killed during it is a plot hole
lmao
WHO causing plot holes lets go
bad writing causing plot holes lets go
im still angry that they killed off henrikson for no reason
Oh right no, not a plot hole. They didn't have the medical records yet. And were killed trying to access them through BIOCOM: https://gtfo.fandom.com/wiki/ALT://Rundown_5.0_Logs#7JR-T7U-780
Mhmm
it does a good enough job of ending the story to a new player, but the more you look into the details it getsโฆ messy
Fine for you to dislike the plot turns, but I did like the subversion of the team killing Daylight instead of Sleepers. We were EXPECTING the "demons" to get them. It was FORESHADOWED that they Sleepers would kill them. But at the end of the day, they died to our characters acting on behalf of Warden
I mean, if Daylight was 2057 and the rundowns start around 2063 (at least, that's when Scaeffer comes onto the scene) then them being dead was kinda a given. But still, meh.
Sloppy writing or a deliberate subversions can be pretty blurred though, that I admit
it could've gone so much better probably
Honestly daylight dying isnt even that bad, i was just hoping theyd get more logs. Im more mad about henriksons death, it just feels like a waste of a character
I agree that I would've liked more Henriksson, but I knew he was going to die for a while
He and Schaeffer did not gel well. We saw it in R7
He could have escaped and helped us get rid of the chips then warp out with us
imagine if we heard schaeffer and henrikkson fighting over intercom, then our characters become defiant to schaeffer and continue henrikkson's plan, while shit talking schaeffer and telling him if he shows himself to our team he's a dead man
in R7 they were doing decently, in R8 theyโฆ well
wait theres a log of it? how many did i fucking miss
Dude you need to make sure you read all the logs before you criticize the story
and then I have my thoughts on schaeffer could've died in a cooler way, maybe to the fight against the big fuck off enemy in d2 on the other side of a security door, trapped between death by sleeper and death by gun from our team
I kinda like we got to drown him, it was cathartic after everything else
I would've 360 no scope sniped his ass with the bad sniper we have now if I could. But instead they just drown.
:/
I will say it was technically crushing him under the weight of water and not drowning him, but man
I suppose
killed off screen by a terminal command, what an anticlimactic way to end
Although, what happens to his audio if you don't run the command? I ran it as he started crying...
He sends a message to the group saying Schaeffer has lost it, tries to tell you where to go, and Schaeffer walks in, and turns off the mic. Then, next OG Schaeffer mission, he calls for Henriksson only to then go "Oh wait... nevermind."
henri is still a waste of a character - he dies simply to show that schafer is deranged but we knew that already. I think it would have been cool if it was a plot twist that he lived and comes to save the day and help us out at some point
(yeah we don't have the VO's in the wiki yet, so a bunch of lore stuff is still missing from the wiki)
yeah i know that
Then you know what happened
i thought u meant theres an extra log of it
yeah then that just sucks

he tried to defy schaeffer*
I hope 10ch draft the main and side story arcs at the start of their next game, not near the end ๐
In any case, I feel like this ending keeps in line with most of GTFO's themes. There are plotholes that I'm not happy with, some major and some minor, but I personally just have never liked to go after Devman just because I wasn't satisfied. I've done game design. It's ROUGH, especially from a narrative point where you constantly have to readapt your narrative around what levels do and don't make the cut. Personally? I think R8 is a brilliant sendoff mechanically. A1 is a fun environment, B2 has a very clever gimmick, they introduced the nightmare enemies, offered some fine arenas to fight the Kraken(s), and the entire idea of a Quantum merging actually works pretty well given how the Dimensional Superpositions are outlined and actually adheres to Quantum Mechanics quite well (which the sci-fi nerd in me adores). Plus, while the idea of your playable character infecting the a safezone is hardly a novel one in narratives, I do feel like this game did it in an EXCEPTIONALLY subtle way that can leave you thinking that you actually did save the day. Which, deliberate or accidental, is quite fitting with the themes of the game
While there are plenty of disappointments for me there are a lot of things I really want to laud the team for. Namely that they did end up finishing the game, and at least answered a lot of the big questions and managed to make their Alt rundowns more than just "rereleases" by tying them into the main story. That's above a mere "passing" grade to me
I would've loved answers to things like who the person who brought NAM-V to Florida was (I thought it was going to be Stokes but we have no way of knowing), who else was with Connor in the end, what happened to Dreyfuss besides "they're in a bunker," and some culminations for individual characters like Piros, Stanovich, and Chapman like we did for Hammerstein, Teale, and Clinton, but their priority was put where it was
Also, here's a link to my rant if you want to read it since you're the one who asked for it
#gtfo-lore message
Yeah, I kinda think that was a joke by the developers. I wasn't sure if it was a movie reference...
Question the end of r8d1 is that the alt squad that is dead? Because there is 4 bodies, and we already saw two I think in alt r6 somewhere
Yes... but not for that reason. We find the alt squad dead in alt//r6cx, as witnessed by alt//schaeffer before the collapse
That is a squad from another unknown worldline. ๐
Yay more worldlines
Dreyfus in a bunker? What's that about
What?
Kev Dango said dreyfus was in a bunker in the big post above
Wondered if you knew anything about it.
Also what were both Schaeffers doing in the pit in D2?
I suppose the ALT Schaeff was trying to fix the coolant, and OG Schaeff realised that and tried to stop him...
hmm that's a good opinion, it makes sense. OG schaeffer could be there to make it worse or osmething
It was kinda shoe-horned in though "just turn on a mic" as an objective...
Why reactor floodways would need microphones ๐คทโโ๏ธ ... or why it wasn't a HearSay, the very technology we know to be secretly installed throughout the complex.
There's at last two dead squads in R8 by my count... (not incl. the ending)
Just finished e1 so far so
I see Sam-DB in lore chat. I automatically agree ๐
I kinda recall the squad from from R6CX ๐ค What was their deal?
ty fam
I live in the wiki... (no where near Infinite Duck's level though)
