As it is Christmas, I will share my GTFO Christmas theory (tin-foil). How Rundown 2 is an inversion of the Biblical Christmas evangelium.

#

This story is more based on symbolism and story-interpretation than actual 'lore'. Do not take it as part of the 'lore' per say and do not take it too seriously. I share this only so you can play the rundown with an extra bit of Christmas cheer ~ 🎄

#

The story begins with what would be our ‘god’ the Warden. The Warden would be our god as it controls our fates. We cannot disobey as we are mentally conditioned to obedience and if we abandon the mission, our ‘god’ would leave us to rot. The Warden is our god in the figurative controlling sense, not the literal one.

This god commands us (the prisoners) to seek out a child deep below the earth. This is the first inversion. The babe (neonate) is not sent from heaven above, but from the deep depths of the earth. It is a part of the dreaded RISE project, a child of Dreyfus industries who have been referred to as the ‘devil’ on more than one occasion. We are to go underground and seek this genetically modified child of Dreyfus and bring it to the Warden.

The Prisoners have a form of guidance throughout the complex. Biocom serves as the divine spirit as it tells the prisoners where to go and what tasks to perform to find their way to the Neonate. Biocom, as a branch of ‘our god’, the Warden, is our guiding angel through this arduous task.

The missions prior are all about navigating the way to the Neonate. Remove obstacles and hindrances to reach the ‘crib’. There are no stars for our prisoners to follow, but they use the internal net to triangulate its location. Finally, they make it there and have the Neonate in hand.

It is upon their time to leave that the greatest fight of the Rundown begins. Liken to the Christian narrative, the Neonate has pursuers. The prisoners have to fight and flee while carrying the Neonate through the hardest challenges of the Rundown yet.

SMC is a subsidiary of dreyfus industries. SMC is a mining company specializing in iridium, an incredibly valuable material found in asteroids that is used to make chipsets. In the yucatan, a massive earthquake shakes the land on the merida fault line and SMC volunteers to help with the cleanup. They get down there, and they find thousands dead. Including the red cross workers, to most likely nam-v. They also notice the meteor and conduct scans. They estimate trillions of dollars worth of iridium rest beneath the surface here. So.. they make a coverup. they burn all the bodies of the infected/dead and start making plans for garganta. Meanwhile, kovac catches wind of the burnings and makes a deal with their parent company, dreyfus, to be allowed to set up shop in garganta in exchange for their silence and additional security that they can provide. SMC gets to digging, and eventually they start to uncover allen artifacts from millions of years ago. Due to quarantine procedures that were not followed, the virus gets out and begins to infect people in garganta. SMC/Dreyfus call in another dreyfus subsidiary, Project Insight to come in to do research on the artifacts and study them. Meanwhile SMC does what they do best. Keep digging and getting more monies. Eventually, the detonation happens in 2053 and their CEO is killed. Dreyfus step in and elevate Insight leadership to take control over SMC. Meanwhile, SMC is still digging. And thats all we know. Up until the very end where the virus/parasite killed everyone in the complex, SMC just kept on a' diggin'.

do we have confirmation that the Warden is making the neonate for the purpose of it being an invisible agent to do the higher risk objectives? or is that our leading theory?

Invisibility also detailed in log along with possible virus immunity: CRW-EUH-3YU

Excerpt from log:
"Psychologically, they are clean slates. There is no deconstruction or social programming to break. From conception, RISE resources are ours to mold into per[corrupted]"

Excerpt from log describing how they are able to turn invisible:
" ..means we can create resources that are immune to disease and viruses (one of the leading causes of procured asset loss), or that can operate in extreme environmental conditions. We can alter their pheromonic signature to deter scent tracking, or mimic biometric data to bypass security systems."

#

I believe it to be the leading theory thus far (invisibility, possible virus immunity)
What comes next in the log however, is the most interesting.

#

Excerpt from log: CRW-EUH-3YU

"We can shape their physiology to create a perfect sniper, or the perfect hand to hand combat specialist. We can sculpt them cosmetically to create aesthetics that trigger trust and confidence, or produce panic and fear."

"In RISE, we have been given the clay to fashion the perfect merc[corrupted]"

#

Invisibility, possible immunity is what we thus far assume the Warden to be after. What RISE could have the potential to be, is so much more.

By far, I find this the most interesting (latter one). If RISE is a project capable of shaping subjects like 'clay' as log CRW-EUH-3YU states. Why does it act like this after imprint?
I say this aware of all the roadblocks mentioned by KOVAC in RISE's development and aware that subject 22 was a likely failure.

eternal talon
#

bear in mind, to our knowlege, it was never finished and free of kinks before the wrdn took over.

#

duds are to be expected

#

though, wrdn seemed to still care greatly about u22.

#

immediately after we hear schaeffer kill it, wrdn sends us to confirm its status.

#

even when schaeffer is bashing its brains in, it is crying "waaaaaaaaa"

austere depot
# eternal talon duds are to be expected

True. But a dud in what way? What it attempts is communicate. It fails on both accounts. It fails to communicate with Schaeffer and it fails to communicate with the sleepers.
If it is supposed to be a warrior (replacement for legion) then subject 22 was a colossal failure. It is utterly pacifistic or does no harm to Schaeffer or sleepers as far as the logs tell.
If it is supposed to facilitate communication, it is less so a failure. It got itself killed in the end, but it managed to engage in at least one conversation with Schaeffer before it scared him off.

burnt wren
#

U22 was supposed to be an infiltrator

#

Think about it

#

what's our job here?

#

Find cells, scan shit, deliver samples, yadi yada

eternal talon
eternal talon
burnt wren
#

We fight sleepers only because we have to and warden giving us ammo is courtesy to let us gets shit done

eternal talon
#

or do you mean by the fact that it is unable to be detected by the lesser sleepers

burnt wren
#

Yes, that

eternal talon
#

scouts and stuff can still detect them

burnt wren
#

It can do everything we can do without having to fight for every meter of space

#

It can find cells, do scans, deliver objectives

#

And sleepers can't do shit to it

#

They just ignore each other

#

The only 2 objectives that involved actively killing something i remember were R6C3 and R6D1

eternal talon
#

which makes me wonder, if it tears down doors simply because it can hear alarms and such, like with the blood doors, how come they just dont kill it anyway? do they sense the virus on it? like a certain smell? if so, why dont we just cover ourselves in sleeper giblets and be good?

burnt wren
#

Even in latter case it was self-defense, i don't think we were directly ordered to take down the big lad

eternal talon
#

i assume defending that outpost and preventing it from being destroyed was also a big plus

eternal talon
#

though we dont know about how it is with tanks... they might be able to see them.

burnt wren
#

or even better

#

just send them to do the thing

#

and no need for a distraction

#

R6C3 is straight up not a mission if Warden had units to spare

#

The utility of having a unit that doesn't have to engage sleepers at all is gigantic

austere depot
#

I agree on all accounts. A RISE unit functional as a as a human KOVAC agent would be able to fulfill all those assets. Invisible to the sleepers. Possible infection immunity (not yet fully confirmed).
Yet, I can't help but think that they may fulfill an additional function. What it is, I do not know yet. But I keep in the back of my head that we like KOVAC, may be thinking in very 'human' terms.

burnt wren
#

not to mention time saved on stealth, searching for loot, using said loot...

eternal talon
#

let the sleepers play security

austere depot
#

Like for instance, if the Neonates are able to hide through pheromones. Are they also able to communicate? Issue orders?

burnt wren
#

Eventually i'm sure Warden would try that

eternal talon
#

we haven't met a live one yet

#

or heard of a KSO squad that had.

burnt wren
#

i think he means giving orders to sleepers

austere depot
eternal talon
#

that.. i have no idea.

burnt wren
#

i mean its logical, right?

eternal talon
#

through pheremones, basically anything is possible

burnt wren
#

if you can make pheromones to just make them ignore you, why not make pheromones that tell them to do X

eternal talon
#

think about ant colonies accepting a new queen, or bees

burnt wren
#

like we often use pheromones to scare away insects and other animals. Just give them the "don't be here" signal.

A Fractured History
Las Noticias Central, Science Desk
June 3rd 2050

As the cleanup continues after the devastating Merida quake, a team of scientists from the Instituto GeolĂłgico are trying to figure out when the Merida faultline appeared, and if the seismic shift was a sign of things to come, or a forgotten history.

Their research has not been limited to the Yucatan. In their quest for answers they have sought archeological societies as far north as the Texas Independence and as far south as Honduras. The answers they were seeking turned up at the Lamanai Archaeological Project in Belize. The team uncovered ancient Mayan records of several earthquakes in the region, with the most recent one being in the mid 13th century.

Researchers at the Lamanai Project studied scores of tablet inscriptions from their extensive library and discovered reference to a series of catastrophic population declines that occurred in the Yucatan between 800 and 1300 CE. Until the Merida quake, these population fluctuations were assumed to be related to the frequent outbreaks of disease in the region.

Now, with the context of the newly discovered fault line it seems like the ancient Mayan scribes were giving us more information than we knew. While disease is still almost certainly the reason for the massive drop in Mayan population during the 9th century, the cause of the disease is now much clearer. Earthquakes.

Earthquakes are not a major cause of casualties in the ancient world. Structures were too small and the population were too widely dispersed to inflict mass casualties even from the most powerful of quakes. It is the famine and disease, and the hardship which follows that claims the most number of lives. There have been man¬=AÍ:

"I’ll tell you what I know. I know that the nearest fault line is hundreds of miles away, where the Caribbean plate meets the North American plate. You know what else I know? That there is no way a 9.8 earthquake is going to register at the epicenter location they’re giving us. It’s not on the fault line, and it certainly isn’t close enough to one to register a 9.8. So, you have to ask yourself, what’s going on here? How is the biggest earthquake in recorded history occuring in a location with minimal seismic activity?"

Former.
It is an experience of the same rundown that happened in alternative dimension.
There is a new log somewhere in R1 that pretty much describes the situation to a T.

The short story: a staff member found a random, alternatively modified Bishop's mask lodged between the machinery of the teleportation device.
The problem was: Bishop had his mask on him and he does not - and never did - have a spare.
That mask literally should not be there. And yet it was there. The staff member brought this issue to everyone he could think of, but people just gave him weird looks.
So he put it into artifact vault, wrote his observations to Dr Stokes and left it at that.

Yea it really is unfortunate. Devs had so much content being worked on in the alpha version, and none of it was released or even mentioned (not gonna give any details because I don't think talking about cut content is allowed). It is a bummer though. In the back of my mind I used to hope that they would add all of that cut content eventually, but with r8 seemingly being the last rundown, its not gonna happen.

I do agree to things like the presence of a bathroom in the facility or a cafeteria and living quarters would give it an idea of realism. I also agree that seeing empty turrets and broken defenses would greatly add to immersion and visual storytelling - but I also think what we have both is and has been pretty friggin great.
Does it lack some flair? Sure. But as long as the soul of the game is to be licked to death, choke at infection fog, getting spat at and getting my teeth kicked in.. then its soul is in the right place 👍

eternal talon

to begin to talk about that, you have to know the relationship between wrdn and biocom

spiral otter

Ok

eternal talon
#

wrdn and biocom have been fighting for control for over a decade, with biocom trying to delete warden over and over and over and over, with wrdn stopping the program just before it does.

the wrdn essentially, has been using biocom and controlling it. like a puppeteer.

schaeffer and henrikkson do not like the wrdn

spiral otter

But it doesn’t have total control yet right?

so to interfere with it, they had us install a trojan into the biocom mainframe in r7d2.

as it stands right now, it is two puppetters controlling the same set of scans

if wrdn tells us to go left, and schaeffer doesn't like it, he tells us to go right.

#

and because of our neural implants, we cannot disobey biocom

#

Piros insists BIOCOM is unhackable as it is a biological computer. There is more technological-scientific jargon in there where the bottom line is: He believes it should be un-hackable unless the ones reporting the disturbances suggest something is communicating with it 'telepathically' (which he also perceives as impossible).

Abnormal behaviors among prisoners was also reported and sharing of knowledge and experience in between units coming out of hydrostasis. The example used is how all units learned to use C-foam to seal doors as a tactic after one in their number used it to great success. Which should be impossible due to said hydrostasis. Danger signs were present, but apparently ignored / overlooked / denied.

#

I do have another crazy theory (Horray, Frosty!). BIOCOM is biological. What if the parasites got in, somehow? Dauda logs them to exhibit traits of a unified intelligence, working together in ways that would be impossible otherwise. He also theorizes the parasites to happen upon the virus by accident as the two can be separated from one another.

We do not yet know if the virus affects the behavior of the parasite. Therefore, we cannot truly say that we know the behavior of the parasite when separate from the virus. What if it got in somehow, got into BIOCOM itself and the WRDN was installed from the inside? In a sense, basically using BIOCOM's own brain and resources to install a 'software/kernel/operator' that originally should not be there?

#

In a sense, it would be like how we would react if we got a brain parasite. Yes, we would like to delete and remove it if aware - but how? You can't just reach into your own brain and tear it out.

#

As for the how? Parasites are.. weird. Just weird. And they are known to be able to influence and program unaware hosts into behaviors befitting its cause.
Toxoplamosis wants to be in cats. If humans get it into their systems, said humans become obsessed with cats. Because said parasites want to be in cats they literally cause cat obsession within human hosts in order to get to their intended hosts.

If said parasites are capable of sharing data and information to generate a form of intelligence, then working to achieve an objective should be easier for it. It would have had to pass from host to host, strategically if it also wanted to avoid the virus - until hitting upon a worker with direct access to Biocom (an access port).

#

The issues with this theory, well, we do not even know if the Parasite behaves any different from its virus carrying variants. They could be one and the same.

#

There is also no confirmation for any of this, taking only basis in Dauda's logs and 'theories' which are not confirmed in universe.

#

What it may explain however, if the Parasite is intelligent and wants to defeat the virus, same as us. It could explain the WRDN's great interest in RISE.

#

its a complete wild west in terms of technology

silver sandal
#

so what are your theories on what biocom is? like a brain in a jar somewhere ala Futurama?

eternal talon
#

biocom? biocom isn't like glados, that would be more likely for the wrdn.

#

biocom is simply a supercomputer being run on biological hardware. at the end of the day its not sentient.

#

don't expect giant mountains of flesh connected with cables

silver sandal
#

yeah the question here is what exactly the "biological hardware" is

eternal talon
#

think tons of DNA storage chips and other biological components in extremely cold storage zones.

#

but the overall mass connecting the bits is overwhelmingly mechanical

silver sandal
#

makes sense with all the cold storage stuff in R2

eternal talon
#

its very hard to theorize to what extent it is biomechanical, but its not like a person or something

#

the WRDN may be, the wrdn is still up in the air if it is allen or human in origin, but biocom is not.

#

biocom had been around long before kovac even decided to move into garganta

#

since it was first temporarily installed in storage hangar #4

#

until KDS-Deep was built

silver sandal
#

WRDN basically could have only been put in by like 2 people correct? Clinton and the technician? and potentially Schaeffer if the technician shared the details with him?

eternal talon
#

we simply dont know the deets.

silver sandal
#

so outside of those 3 who would have reason/motive to create a backdoor and be able to manipulate Biocom?

eternal talon
#

for the wrdn, we have narrowed it down to two possibilities thanks to an andre piros email.

#

either;

A: he is lying, and it was an inside job from the higher ups at kovac "just in case" and kept under very tight wraps
B: he is telling the truth, and it is an allen construct that somehow made it into the system undetected. perhaps during the data burst in 2053 or at another point in time.

#

either it was made in secret by Anders and his goons, or it was made by the allens/ was an ai from the vessel in the inner that migrated to the human network.

silver sandal
#

perhaps the WRDN is programmed by Allens to find/use the MWP to access other dimensions. And that's what all the Neonate stuff is all about as well, trying to create back ups or better versions should it ever run out of KSO's (although if it has access to other timelines i guess it would technically have access to infinite KSO's)

eternal talon
#

since the units are partially made with nam-v genetic data and are invisible to them

silver sandal
#

imagine its the opposite and the WRDN is programmed to spread Nam-V/the parasite 💀 would be super bleak

Ms. Lorde,

BIOCOM cannot be hacked, hijacked, exploited, or compromised. Any code changes made to BIOCOM can only be uploaded using a proprietary FOC Optical Interface directly interfaced with BIOCOM’s organic processing unit (or the “brain bit” if that’s easier for you). There are only 4 people who have access to the FOC Interface or BIOCOM’s processing unit. Two of them are dead, one of them has never visited Garganta, and the other one is me. In addition to this already foolproof security measure, all data packets to and from BIOCOM are sent with time stamps accurate to within 2 nanoseconds. This makes physical data interception impossible. Any rerouting of the data stream would show incorrect time stamps and immediately be flagged, then that data stream would be shut down and all instructions dismissed. BIOCOM’s processing unit is biological in origin as this makes it impervious to all EMP, HPM, and STN ratio attacks. BIOCOM cannot be hacked any more than you can, so unless someone has found a way to telepathically convince BIOCOM to change its programming, your suggestion is absurd. For the second and final time of asking: if you have any more questions, run them by a flagged supervisor first.

Mr. Piros,

But it IS attempting to control systems that were prohibited during installation, so something must have changed. Either someone in Kovac updated the scope of BIOCOM without authorization, or BIOCOM has been hacked. Wasn’t the brain bit recently moved into that storage facility you pretend not to have? Maybe something happened then?

#

**Ms. Lorde,

I do not know how it got access. The permissions hierarchy that was granted prior to installation were followed precisely. The BIOCOM OS only has access to the Garganta systems that were approved by your superiors. We have not updated its scope since the installation date. BIOCOM is working as intended.

Andre Piros

D-Lock Block Cipher

Mr. Piros,

That does not explain how BIOCOM accessed the power system in the first place. I understand that BIOCOM will take power when it needs it – in an environment where it has been granted access to the grid. BIOCOM does NOT have access to our power grid, and therefore should not be able to request a redirect of any generator power, and yet here we are and BIOCOM is clearly able to do that. Justifying the reasoning behind the choice is irrelevant.

How did it get access?

Ms. Lorde.

Harriet,

That’s a BIOCOM access key. BIOCOM is a self-governing DI entity. I don’t run it. No one “runs” it. If it needs more power, it tries to get it. Other than that I have no idea why BIOCOM made these requests. If you have any more questions, run them by a flagged supervisor first.

**Mr. Piros,

There have been multiple attempts to access Garganta’s power control system from an unregistered (and therefore prohibited) source. The power system is, as I understand it, entirely off-limits to KDS and yet, as you can see below – you have attempted to reroute power to unit B-7 (that’s KDS Deep) for some undisclosed reason. If the system had approved the request, the grid would have overloaded and almost every subsystem in the facility would have shut down. I would like an explanation.

im wondering if thats the WRDN attempting to activate the canon squad for the first time since its 4 different gennies for HSU vaults. Assembling the squad

eternal talon

yeah since canonically we do everything first try. but im wondering what the WRDN was attempting to do by activating those HSU's (especially if it would cause power overload to almost the rest of garganta's grid). To me that's indication that whatever it was is so important that the WRDN didnt care about alerting/messing up the rest of the complex to do it.

wrdn already had us. schaeffer had to take seconds.

So whats the deal with the swapped Bishop? I know details are limited but what are the theories on that? Like a different Bishop came back, is he aware/have a plan? Is WRDN aware that it's an Alt Bishop? IIRC the log makes it sound like no one really cared outside the guy who discovered the mask. And what of the OG Bishop of that expedition? Killed on the job, or taken out and replaced by Alt Bishop? 🤔

eternal talon

theirs is much slower than ours, so it seems like we've gone "back in time" but we have not.

Which E1?

so there are literally two bishops, two wardens, two hacketts, etc

#

of everyone

#

(not including dead or alive)

#

we have a MONSTROUS excel doc detailing THOUSANDS of worldlines.

#

^

#

its a key distinction based on how the MWP and allen tech works.

#

it isn't timelines or time travel

#

we are literally traveling the multiverse.

silver sandal
#

yeah i remember that, just wasnt clear on the whole merging worldlines thing and also Bishop is the only one confirmed to have crossed over so far correct?

eternal talon
#

in r6d4, we go to 3 different alternate earths even.

#

so something happened at the end of r7.

#

we just dont know what.

#

that caused this

eternal talon
#

we, us, the OG r1-r7 crew, are playing the alt rundowns

#

we dont know how we ended up,

#

or if the wrdns overwrote eachother, or what the hell is going on,

#

but this mess is where we are post r7.

#

the merging of two universes.

silver sandal
#

i know, i mean the Alt Bishop, from when they found the different mask. He swapped places with the OG canon Bishop correct?

eternal talon
#

there is another bishop either dead or alive, out there somewhere

#

and that goes for everybody else also

#

two schaeffers, given the morse code in alt//r1

#

though we dont know if that is ours, or the alt//s

silver sandal
#

so since we are playing in 2 worldlines (OG and Alt) theoretically there should be another canon squad out there doing work at the same time as us?

eternal talon
#

but we dont know

#

since we are doing these missions, and they aren't,

#

we dont know what they are doing

silver sandal
#

well we do know that the Alt Bishop was activated

eternal talon
#

or if they are even awake

#

its all fucked

eternal talon
#

(for reference, in our own original worldline, gtfo's r1 started ~2061-2063)

#

so a LOT of things are out of order

silver sandal
#

i really hope the worldline stuff has a good explanation, its gotta be tied to whatever the WRDN is doing since its calling the shots

eternal talon
#

since in 2055, a lot of the complex would still be alive

#

but.. still dead with what we see.

#

not to mention, the terrain in the alt worldline is slightly different.

#

the complex was built, slightly different

#

i remember r1c1 especially, i had zone 64-a MEMORIZED

#

but in alt//r1, the zone was COMPLETELY changed.

it had standard security doors even

this was an exact map of the subzone i made back then. was truly my favorite level.

I can provide some context. We are not sure yet where the WRDN came from. It has however set itself up to 'inherit' the Biocom system, meaning as far as the control software goes, it can direct Biocom which in turn direct everything within the facility.

WRND (as inheritor) --(orders)--> Biocom --(orders)--> Everything in the facility + us, the prisoners.

The access codes are very relevant in theories regarding human perpetrators behind the WRDN. Installation, unless Piros is lying, requires direct access to the mainframe. According to Piros only four individuals has the code required to do so.
Schaeffer is likely a fifth rogue possessor of the backdoor codes as he has directly interfered on several missions. He was never meant to have it, but had a close friendship with one who installed BIOCOM, Artus (D017).

austere depot
#

The rabbit hole on this one goes deep..
Andrew Clinton was the one who insisted on extra security measures before allowing Biocom installation. The backdoor was established to appease him, so it is likely that he has it. Andrew Clinton has been perceived dead in one timeline only to be confirmed alive in another so there is a schrĂśdingers cat situation regarding when he lived and died. W-a-r-d-e-n is also an anagram for A-n-d-r-e-w, which I find hilarious (LOL) so there is that.

Piros, confessed to having them, but we do not know if he is lying when he said only four do. The fourth has never visited Garganta, according to Piros, making Davies a possible candidate.

#

Ah, I must correct myself. Marcus Ganty was the name of the guy who wanted to appease Andrew

#

Which either means Piros was lying or he did not know..

#

It could be Andrew breaching protocol

# uncut sphinx Im absolutely loving reading through all this lore and stuff Like id never have ...

I had missed the part where Marcus Ganty was the one to install Biocom and bring to light the backdoor codes. It may have been fatigue or rashness on my part. Because then, how did Arteus (installer of hearsay system) come upon them?
Andrew Clinton had a tendency to break protocol and has been reprimanded for ignoring the chain of command through several emails. He did order Arteus (D017) to install the hearsay system in secret. Only the top knew about it.
Since Andrew's actions have proven sketchy in the past, I can think it possible he shared those codes if he intended to use Arteus for his own designs. Or.. as the brain behind the integration of the Hearsay system, perhaps Arteus could have learned the codes through its use (it becoming a double-edged sword). Either way, Arteus is the likely candidate to have shared those codes with Schaeffer.

#

Upon reading log HCC-GGB-3U6, it is also revealed that parts of BIOCOM (if not all of it) was stored and operational in Hangar 4 for a time. We know very little of Hangar 4, but this could have big implications.

austere depot
#

The log states as follows:
"For BIOCOM to perform autonomously it requires unrestricted access to the host infrastructure. We are able to use the temporary location in Hangar 4 while we wait for Deep to be completed, but we cannot function without full access, regardless of where the organics are located."

It is possible that, A: They set up station to integrate Biocom in Hangar 4 with its 'brain' located elsewhere. B: They set up a station and its brain temporarily in Hangar 4 while they wait for KDS deep to be completed.

Piros believes Biocom is impervious to attacks. It may be installed in its proper location by then. But the email he defends it in, is also strange.

Log: 98G-SDC-2WH
Piros: "I do not know how it got access. The permissions hierarchy that was granted prior to installation were followed precisely. The BIOCOM OS only has access to the Garganta systems that were approved by your superiors. We have not updated its scope since the installation date. BIOCOM is working as intended."

Ms.Lorde: "But it IS attempting to control systems that were prohibited during installation, so something must have changed. Either someone in Kovac updated the scope of BIOCOM without authorization, or BIOCOM has been hacked. Wasn’t the brain bit recently moved into that storage facility you pretend not to have? Maybe something happened then?"

#

What we learn from these two logs: The 'brain unit' of the Biological computer has been moved and it has not had any 'official updates' since its adoption and integration (according to Piros). Piros believes the brain to be neigh impregnable after installation in its proper place (unless he is lying) but this confirms that it has been moved. It may have spent time stationed in hangar 4 and once in this storage mentioned my Ms. Lorde. What we do not know, are the security details following either of the two locations.

#

and well, we also do not know if Piros is lying (which Kovac has a sad tendency to do)

I have a theory. Though as some might have seen, I have a lot of theories. That is the point with theories though. You make them and they are either proved or disproved.
Anyhow, this theory I call 'reverse insertion theory'. The idea of this particular theory is that instead of control being inserted into the prisoners, the prisoners are inserted into us. That means Woods, Dauda, Hacked and Bishop being inserted into us, the players. As operative personalities while whoever we are, are suppressed (Get out style).
Very little basis for this one, just Dauda's dialogue in the original release trailer.
"It comes every night without fail. There are different people every time, but I recognize them somehow." (different people, yet, same people)
"They're screaming at me. I don't hear them but I know they're screaming." (subconscious, perhaps)
"Such hate and anger!" (Whatever screams, not audibly but in his mind / subconscious, is furious according to Dauda)
"I don't know what I have done to them" (He either forgets or remains ignorant of the cause of their anger)
"They want me to feel what they feel."

Most particular is the last part:
"Then I wake up. I am not sweating or screaming. I am perfectly calm. I just open my eyes and I am awake." (Implying Dauda can wake whenever he wants)

Given that our name is used for the subjects for each subsequent login, that is how the theory took shape. I think however, that it has been disproven since.

It made sense at one point as we could die, die and die over again - and would explain how we could be in two places at once during R2B1 and R2B2 since R2B1 is a distraction for mission R2B2

We have an audio log of him getting into HSU out of pure necessity - it was either that or getting shredded by approaching sleepers

Which technically makes him the "youngest" KSO out of the 4

#

Woods, Hackett and Bishop were KSOs long before the big sleeper break out that force Dauda into HSU and Warden utilised him later

Woods was assigned as part of his incarceration process after his massacre incident.
Hackett willingly submitted himself after realising that he's too far gone.
Bishop was forced into the role as a punishment from crossing some higher up.

Dug up some interesting name symbolism:
KOVAC defense industries, I wonder if we have some here who can confirm it, translates to 'Blacksmith' in southern slavic languages (Common name in Hungarian sources say).
Which befits them as they are not only the main provider of weapons in game but the main 'smith' as the maker of the things we encounter. That includes HSU's and the entire RISE project.

Dreyfus Industries is also interesting. Deriving from the German word "drivuoss", meaning 'tree legs, tripod'. The term, though I could use some conformation for this, means 'cooking pot with three legs'. What this could potentially boil down to, is Drefus as a meltingpot for a myriad of smaller companies that it has control over.

#

Santonian is potentially a -really- clever and sneaky one. On one side, it refers to the Santonian age. Fitting for a company going drilling after the asteroid that killed the dinosaurs. The 'Santonian-age', established Henri Coquand, was given its name where the first samples were discovered/uncovered/located, Saintes.
I could use some confirmation here as well: 'Saintes' means holy

"I should've died when Erzurum fell to the rebels! I should've died sneaking through enemy territory for 26 days! I should've died in the DMZ, yet somehow the snipers missed me time and time again! I should've died crossing the minefield but somehow, here I still am."

Excerpt from earlier in log: 523_PS-778

"Those marines at Larnica, that wasn't chaos."

What happened at Larnica, detailed in log: 84HJ4
"18 people are dead at a US military base in Larnaca, Cyprus, after a shooting rampage on Saturday morning. Authorities stated that the gunman was eventually stopped by marines having been shot 8 times, and is in critical condition at the Hausen Hospital in Nicosia. The name of the assailant is known by OPN, but is being withheld as part of our “no glory” policy."

#

Now, for Bishop, who crossed the wrong people through Blackmail Log: 435_IR-172

Bishop
"I was posted to the Valencia office three years ago by Janson Davies. He deliberately had me stationed here right before the civil war broke out. I got trapped in the city by Esparza’s forces, and I’ve been held hostage for three fuckin' years, until you lot showed up. After that, I sat in front of some uniformed fuckwit for four hours trying to explain that I’m the bloody victim here. Now why don’t you look me up in Santonian’s records so we can sort this out?"

"Because he’s trying to get rid of me. He put me here as a punishment, okay? He knew as far as I was going to take Valencia, so-- so he put me here hoping I would get killed along with every other foreigner, but it didn’t fucking work, did it, because here I am."

Interviewer
These are serious accusations, Mr. Bishop. For him to send you to a country on the brink of civil war, knowing full well that any foreigners in the city would almost certainly be killed.

Both appear to have survived improbable odds. Given what we know now of membranes, adjacent timelines and the possible merging of timelines (Theory of Rebecca Stokes), perhaps that something has interfered to make them survive against all odds.

The Complex, Chimps, and Complex Chimp Theories
What is so complex about the Complex is how non-complex the Complex’s complexities are. [End of sentence] We often see the same environments and environmental details over and over again. [End of sentence] Could this be something bigger? [End of sentence] How big does this rabbit hole get? [End of sentence] I have some theories to provide that could uncomplex this complex Complex. [End of sentence]

Theory 1: Both “Complex” and “Chimp” start with the letter “C”. [End of sentence] “C”ould this be something related to how the sleepers interact with the player? [End of sentence] Just think about it. [End of sentence] “Dauda”, “Woods”, “Bishop”, and “Hackett”, all five letters, (except for Hackett). [End of sentence] Do you know what word also has five letters? [End of sentence] Chimp. [End of sentence] That’s right, you play as an ex-chimp prisoner commissioned by the Warden (I will get to that soon). [End of sentence]

#

Theory 2: The sleepers are NOT chimps. [End of sentence] This theory is implausible as there are too many correlations between the chimps and sleepers for this to be true.[End of sentence]

Theory 3: Apes are the not-to-distant relative of the chimp. [End of sentence] And the chimps could obviously not fit the profile of the larger sleepers, but judging on the habitable environment of Mexico, it’s not too far-fetched to believe that the chimp and ape family were tested on because of their locality to the Vercuzian peninsula.[End of sentence]

#

The Warden
What is a synonym of “Warden”? Zookeeper isn’t too far off. [End of sentence] Zookeepers keep close watch of their simian underlings, and often get them to perform for them as noted by the famous colloquium “Dance monkey, dance”. [End of sentence] The Warden, similarly, uses the prisoners for their own advantageous, personal work and bidding. [End of sentence] The Warden keeps a close eye on the prisoner's progress, only letting them out of their “cage” when the Warden wants them to be let out. [End of sentence]

charred vault
graceful frost
#

If we look at the lab testing tubes, as well as the sleepers themselves, their body shape and form, as well as the sleepers movement patterns and behaviors, are all very similar to the simian family. [End of sentence] Could these sleepers be shaved monkeys? [End of sentence] Or perhaps they are a crossbreed between monkeys and chickens? [End of sentence] Someone offered a great theory (that has been confirmed by a reliable source!) that the structure within the sleepers are EGGS. [End of sentence] Monkeys are not known to lay eggs as they are mammals, but a chicken/monkey crossbreed could remedy this abnormality. [End of sentence] Though a chicken doesn’t make much sense as they have feathers and obviously that gene would show up within sleepers. [End of sentence] So I propose one more theory. [End of sentence]

#

Theory 4: Monkey/Platypus Hybrid is the second best conclusion. [End of sentence] A platypus lays eggs and also has SMOOTH SKIN, just like a sleeper. [End of sentence] The rough texture that sleeper skin has can be related to a monkey’s also, very rough and coarse skin texture. [End of sentence] This gives the sleeper’s appearance and explains why the sleepers contain eggs within themselves. [End of sentence]

But back to my point, we may be considered the perfect quad in EVERY universe as we are (almost) the only intact group of 4 as far as the warden knows. This is assuming, as proposed earlier, that the Warden has knowledge of all timelines, and that at some point, the alt quad may die off.

Possible, but we have traced multiple membranes. I think there are two where all the prisoners four prisoners remain active at the same time, but contains other inconsistencies.

It is not only the four that needs to match, but Schaeffer, Henrikson and others. I do believe you are right, but I do not believe the 'main' and 'alt' membranes are found within that list. The WRDN according to FER-WI9-053 have after all, found over a billion different membranes, far more than the list covers.

I did try to point out the incredible luck of both Woods and Bishop in an earlier post before I was bombed by the chimp joke-theory post (🐒) . I believe there is some connection there if you look at their backstories.

#

Woods 'miracle mile' (hinted in his voice log). He supposedly walked out alive after being trapped behind enemy lines. Was missed by snipers 26 times and survived a minefield. A news article states, when he went beserk, he was shot by 8 soldiers and survived.

it must also be taken into account that some membrane frequencies move at a faster time than others. And if the WRDN is sharing Data with itself... here is my theory (tin foil firmy in place)
The KSO's are confirmed to have shared knowledge in between Hydrostasis. This, to the bafflement of those who logged the observations. It should not be possible, but likely after the WRDN took control of BIOCOM, something happened.
We both fail and succeed at missions and we play members of the same squad every time. When we succeed however - that is knowledge the prisoners bring back with them. Experience / knowledge has been confirmed to be shared. It is possible that when we succeed, we share a knowledge of 'how to succeed'. If that knowledge is part of the data the WRDN shares, then we are informing other prisoners of how to succeed at a given task.

#

What we may be playing is a 'trial squad', failing and dying a lot to generate information for others to succeed. It would become a bit of a meta narrative in that case as this is exactly what we do as players. We try and we wither succeed or die. With every success and death, we accumulate knowledge which we arm ourselves with.

#

Potentially, it could be the only reason why we are extracted at all.

#

In short, when we succeed at one part, we leave a 'ghost' behind. A memory of the best placements for defense, sentry positions, what doors to mine, where to place C-foam. So when we need a team to 'play a distraction', they do this using 'our experience'. wow, in that sense we would be the ghost of every character.

...It may even be the reverse. What if it goes full insertion? What if we see ourselves as the prisoners because that is the memory we are guided by? And in reality, we succeed the missions by a form of sleep-walking? 0-0

It's not timelines. Timelines qualify as separate variations of an existing world at different intervals of time.

This is not how gtfo's worldlines work. As is in stokes' journal, time is relative to the observer. And we enter alt//r1 after our own r7 yet we do not encounter our own past selves as the events are different because of our interaction, yet this interaction doesn't double again into another timeline because the universes at play aren't defined by key moments and changes in spacetime.

#

Tldr: there aren't 4 squads in alt. There are two. The fact that we know this and have evidence for only a single duplicate proves the previous theory that these aren't timelines.

#

.
GTFO's wordlines are unaffected by each other in the broader sense, and instead were defined by a moment (big bang?) Or some other phenomena in the extreme past that we certainly will never learn anything about

#

Alt//r1's merging with our own only stands to prove this as two timelines would just split into another timeline.

Alternate states.

Stoke's theory:
"If a wave from a different dimension meets another wave from a different dimension, the superposition that occurs in theory could be identical to a superposition that occurs in our known dimension."

"And if the differentiator between these dimensions is the quantum frequency, that dimension’s perception of the passage of time, in theory that identical superposition could happen an infinite number of times and, in theory, might even have some predictability. If something is predictable, it can be prepared for. A mechanic can be devised to control and manipulate it."

#

What I think happened, is that the rare occurrence of the tragic tale of all four prisoners.. was manipulated into happening in one membrane.
Say what happened to Woods occurred in membrane A, Dauda in membrane B, Hacket in membrane C and Bishop in membrane D. If the entity could read, predict and see the 'superpositions for all occurrences', it could influence multiple membranes to make ABCD occur in membranes at mass

that means of course that instead of having multiple membranes with outcome A, B, C or D. We may have multiple membranes with outcome ABCD @u@

Yes and no. Gargantha was initially a mining facility but had to be quickly repurposed into a research facility too when they found something besides minerals at the lower levels.
The Legion program - which is what we seem to be a part of - is... "advertised"?... as a form of alt punishment / community work for people with sentences. At least that's what people who sent Woods believed, from the vibe i got from that one interview.

The Legion project was a highly inhumane project where people are effectively brainwashed to become living drones to be under command of local management AI called BIOCOM. The stasis they use to contain us between missions wipes our memories and apparently we have some kind of chip in the back of our neck.
The product are Kovac Special Operatives or KSOs for short. Again: living drones. People only in biological sense. Do not talk unless required to, barely any thoughts of their own. Whatever BIOCOM orders - they do without hesitation. Perfect security officers, perfect soldiers and just overall very useful guys. But can't talk to them even about the weather - they barely acknowledge you exist unless you directly interfere with their objectives.

The Warden / prisoners name convention is a red herring. We're not really prisoners and he's not really our Warden.
This comes from a point when BIOCOM was injected with a Trojan that had a rather ironic name of "W4RDN" or something like that.
How did the name got out and became a common word used by KSOs (and we know they do because Schaeffer almost exclusively reffers to him that way) is a mystery.

#

That being said:

  • Woods is here for an actual crime: he massacred a whole office of fellow marines.
  • Hackett is an ex-mercenary who committed some heinous shit through his career. He willingly submitted himself for the project hoping it will remove the memories of his crimes while simultaneously acting as a punishment.
  • Bishop was forced into the project because he tried to blackmail some KOVAC Bigwig. Which is technically a crime, even if KOVAC seems to deserve it.
  • Dauda was a scientist of high talent and no morals to speak of. Did some horrible things in the name of science. Was forced to climb into an HSU pod to save himself from sleepers and somehow received the KSO treatment later. How or by whom - who knows. But he did.

For all intents and purposes - our protagonists are no saints, none of them.
The most relatively innocent one is probably Bishop since he only blackmailed people and didn't seem to commit murders or massacres of any kind unlike the rest of cast.

#

We should really talk about GTFO as an expression of art sometime.
It is steeped in theories Biopower (by Focult) and the most rampant expression ever seen of Necropolitics (by Achilles Mebembe)
The workers at Santonian were so utterly dehumanized that the sleepers we find makes a good expression for them. So ground down in a work environment so degenerating of the human spirit that nothing remains but their bodies, anger and animalistic instinct.
Everything in GTFO is ruled by parasites. The Top firms are global parasites. They managed to lie, steal, cheat and bribe their way into Yucatan, giving nothing to its people while causing environmental destruction at mass. They are a parasite on the branch firms, who in turn are a parasite on its workers.
Hell, even the parasites in GTFO may have parasites as the NAM-V virus exists in symbiosis with it.

#

GTFO also puts the lyrics of "Die Gedanken sind frei" by Hoffmann von Fallersleben to shame. There is no last refuge 'of the mind' as prisoners are injected with literal mental probes and exposed to psycho-indoctrination until they are good little biological robot soldiers.

#

In short, what the lore tells us, is that their world was already ruled by parasites. The new virus, is just the newly introduced top of that chain.

#

The firm never viewed its workers as human to begin with. Or at the very least, stopped treating them as such. What is the big difference in between a sleeper, as a part of the hive, and a KSO operative following orders as a robot?

#

The sleepers as the mutated, distorted, mutilated human image could almost appear as the final step of the evolutionary path that the firm set them upon. Removing their rights and dignity. Exposing them to sickness while lying to them about the danger.

burnt wren
#

That's too deep, even by my standards. I can see the parallels but as far as i'm concerned its just a classic cliche story of greedy dwarfs digging too deep.

shy root
#

so this might be a dumb question, but why is warden deploying us?

#

to find what exactly, a cure? research?

austere depot
#

It may entail the cure. But RISE also has potential that KOVAC was never able to realize. Perhaps even unable to ever realize.
They speak about it as if the damned thing is near human clay, capable to be formed and grown into anything (when finalized)
They never got to that stage however, and now the Warden appears to attempt to finalize it.

#

It may be that the WRDN intends to use it for another purpose than what KOVAC ever intended, as they just wanted more efficient 'soldier slaves'.
Observing the Schaeffers encounters with the first grown Neonate, and its interactions with him and sleepers (Unit 23), it is definitely not a soldier.
So, the unit was a failure. It is also possible that the WRDN grows and 'nurtures' them for an entirely different purpose.

shy root
#

ok that makes alot of sense. so the warden is trying to finish RISE since humanity is pretty much gone on the surface probably as a way to bring humanity back

austere depot
shy root
#

wow that's interesting, i like how they gave us enough to fit in the puzzle but not enough to know exactly where its going. could be a save humanity or morph humanity or go deeper as its purpose is but it can only go deeper if it modifies humans. thanks for the lore bits

# austere depot RISE, it would appear. The neonate as part of project RISE. As to why, there are...

Yes, due to the overall objective of R7 it would seem that the Wardens main goal is to get RISE back up and running. However, the overall objective during R6 was to download the genome database of NAM-V, which alludes to the potential that the Wardens main goal could also be to find a cure for NAM-V.

It is a mystery how these two objectives are related. Maybe the Warden wants to use RISE to create more humans, while also using the genome database to make such humans immune to NAM-V, creating a new generation of immune humans.

austere depot
# finite vine Yes, due to the overall objective of R7 it would seem that the Wardens main goal...

This is true. Immunity should be achievable.
I find it interesting however that the main motivation of unit 23 appears to be to facilitate communication. It attempts with the sleepers and it attempts with Schaeffer. It goes about it in a machine-like unlearned way, almost as if this is what it was indoctrinated to do.
It makes me think the Genome-database we gathered can serve a two fold purpose.

  1. It provides understanding to work towards a cure.
  2. That understanding can also be used to analyze how these creatures communicate.

We do not know yet, but RISE could already have been spliced to integrate the virus. The units of RISE, according to description, are capable of growing into anything, whilst the traits of the virus is said to establish entire new genetic trees, not strains, trees in its mutations. If those mutations could be guided to grow according to a design, could that not be the basis for RISE?

#

Unless that is something the WRDN is doing. RISE appears to be in its trial stages when it was under development by KOVAC.

EBDT_00BE11.LOG Is the combined version of the R2 log pieces so it didn't have a real name initially.

**STAR-250789.LOG **
EBDT_29FH-011.LOG These 3 are in the R3 logs with their normal name.
MAIL_LF_CD-387.LOG

EBDT_E110-111.LOG This is also found with that name but it actually differs slightly in it's contents. For example the og on the wiki has this Attachment: g_schematics.pdf and the Santonian site version has this Attachment: Garganta_schematics.pdf

EBDT_5N7V-110.LOG Same thing here as with the log above.

EBDT_IHYQ456.LOG
EBDT_WG8T66.LOG
**EBDT_04AF9.LOG ** These 5 are all R4 logs and don't have the "EBDT" at the beginning of their name.
EBDT_WLVY548.LOG
EBDT_01BE1.LOG
**EBDT_02BE1.LOG **
