#gtfo-lore
1 messages Ā· Page 5 of 1

I thought there was some cool lore about how zombies learned to bend light around them
3 year going on 4 degree is as professional as it gets.
š
oh shit it's MaitrePatate
poggers
yush
@livid grotto what is the flyers mechanism for propulsion and levitation?
I wish, but the closest you'd get would be the sleepers ability to control strange energy
anyways RyK, you are no longer the smartest man in the room
Beanz has more science degrees than you...
0 > 0
lmao
I'm an idiot, that's why I'm into the lore....
what the
you dont even try wdym
I'll have a degree in a year, then I can dab on the sleepers
š
ive tried to help you dozens of times but you keep going on about the same stuff that is easily proven false
No you haven't
You have not explained to me how a mom feeds all her babies and whether she has udders

wait ryk, lore question for you
the fuck i haven't.
do you think the mother has like hundreds of babies inside her waiting to drop them out, or she produces them nearly instantly
I bet she produces them on demand
That's a good question, I think yes
that's some efficient mother...
@livid grotto why do the bodies of the zombies disintegrate after you kill them?
Kiwi_Wave will answer for me
Alright lads nothing wrong with asking questions and coming up with theories so long as we stay on topic
ayo I have do have an idea for it
Can you please tell frostty to stop butting his big ass head into my questions when I'm asking patate?
š
im still here you know..
I just want to learn about the zombies....
There's a parasite in them right? So when you kill them the parasite can't support the body anymore so they disappear since they have been dead as people for so long, you're welcome, thanks, you're welcome
oh shit
Guys please this really isn't the place for this
the disintegrating this isn't canon per-se. it's a gameplay/engine thing. there is no reason we have as to why they'd disintegrate like that. everything is still living tissue.
That doesn't explain the disappearance of the biomass though. Like in quake the enemies got teleported back somewhere else so humans couldn't take their technology
RyK we don't know yet everything about GTFO lore
they never died in the first place also. they are NOT zombies, by definition.
maybe in rundown 8 we will know about their how they disappear so quickly...
Moderator is supporting my zombie hypothesis....
but Kiwi_Wave got a good idea
the living tissue never dies, it is simply converted. the e1 log details how the parasite is kept alive perhaps indefinitely
no, no NO
if they people are taken over by a parasite and the parasite dies it can't revert back to a person
a title doesn't overwrite facts given by the gods/devs
wtf
so the body can't do anything but turn to mush
I personally trust Kiwi
thats my head canon anyway
me too
Me too
I'm fairly certain it's just a mechanic, same as nonsensical security scans
you are making this worse and spreading misinformation
not cool frostty wtf
Zombie hypothesis supported by Official GTFO moderators
I just said its my head canon, I'm not saying its fact
people are free to agree and disagree about things in the game
Do the zombies need to eat? What sustains their metabolism
maybe, altough in some games it's in lore how the bodies disappear
like as RyK said, Quake
I can't even remember one
Warframe does it, but never explained it.
In l4d corpses dissappear when you're not looking and so on
ye, by far not all games
It's one of those things that every game has to bypass in order to avoid performance issues
Wasnāt that what happened pre r6
Wouldn't know, haven't played before 6
Bodies disappeared pre-r6 they just didn't have a gurgling sound
it definitely is just a mechanic but I do like to try and give an in world reason as to why some of it happens
For my own personal head canon
Parasite might be draining the host of all itās nutrients once it dies
hungry worm
that is how I like to look at it
Why does the prisoners walking alert sleepers, but scout walking does not?
@livid grotto
I know very little about the deep lore but its a fun idea
Ill answer this very important question later in the night
gotta go do stuff
Good luck
I have found this information very informative, thank you everyone! (Except frostty)
I do sense some gas, but can't be sure for certain
gtfo players when headcannon:
Alright since there is always seems to be tension for this channel, I will go ahead and remove the "serious" section of the description as it is way too restrictive. People should be allowed to talk about lore seriously AND their headcanons related to the game in a peaceful manner without getting aggravated at one another. The lore is meant to be shared with eachother, but so are headcanons as long as they are disclosed as such. All people here are obviously huge fans tof the lore, but we also keep it in mind that in the end this is a video game, people are allowed to have their own theories and ideas about it.
Now if we could be so civil as to be open-minded to eachother, that would be absolutely lovely.
And still dont throw around completely stupid stuff, keep it close to the game as usual
Hmm.
Realistically it will not make a difference. People memed it all the same.
From what I observed anyway.
mark my words, without that tag this place will fall into a deep chaos and no research will be able to be done at all aside from completely isolated groups.
the days of entire day-long research into (local) solar charts, ancient mayan/spanish documents, (Destination's) star charts, they are gone.
I could be rich if I received a $ for every "lore is (gross oversimplification)" message that seems to randomly appear here very couple of days.
Lads think they're so funny and original
yes but at least that ends fast and it goes back to normalcy.
for the past 3 days we've had nothing but chaos in here
and it's horrid.
If you see like obviously troll lore suggestions, please let us know still. We will action on those, but people are not going to suddenly go ape because of that single word change. All it does is it allows for more people to share their theories and possibly headcanons and have fun while doing so.
To be fair:
i've tried to explain the lore to this man over and over but he comes back day after day speaking zombies, and nonsense. it pains a bad image of this channel as a whole
Rundown was out for couple of months and we basically found everything there was to find, as per raw data. There's nothing left to discuss really.
for r7, sadly i would agree.
The only times this channel is alive is when a new person comes in we catch them up to speed
we had a lot early on when the multiple world-line stuff came out, but that eventually fizzled out as we milked the topic dry.
it is simply waiting for 7.5 now.
..
Which consists of just tapping the dummies doc
i miss the rediculously over-the-top research.
what ever happened to daraxus and punk
those guys were great to hang out with and talk to
if the R7 lore discussion has mostly stopped then whats the issue with people talking about their less grounded theories for fun
if you really enjoy the super indepth discussions and all that maybe you should make a server specifically for that, like the one rav has
Well, Frosty had made it clear numerous times that he takes lore very seriously and will not let any unsupported claims slide
issue'd be nobody would ever go there, hell, most rarely even find this channel in regards to gtfo-lore.
The issue is that Ryk is intentionally trolling Frostty to get a reaction off of them
i see countless posts asking about it on the reddit and yt claiming to not be able to find anything
That's more so the game's fault
wdym the one rav has??
I would
Ah, you noticed it too
Having your own lore be deleted and having to rely on a discord server for it is bad
Oh, nice, i'll join
Man I need to check HC more often
I need to keep the archives up to date, just collecting recordings rn
for context and such
Its barren from R7 stuff rn, dont bother for now
2 ppl join the server
youre welcome rav
make that 3
4
this is getting out of hand, now there's 4 of them!
Bruh, Ill actually have to keep it up to date then. If anyone at any point has recordings of their GTFO runs that contain important story context, let me know cause I am collecting them
Its great that we save logs and audios, but context within expeditions gets lost without recordings
Huge issue
i posted videos in here of the voice bits in r7b1...
a while ago
let me see if i can find them
You'd be interested to have a recording of D1's ending with the baby growth chamber then
Depending on how they bring back old rundowns, this might not be too bad in the future
Yes, very much so
I wish i had better graphics tho, cause I either record at almost 60 fps or it's gonna be 20 but high res
And I believe max texture qualities for that kind of recording would be preferable
I need gameplay itself
So people can tie the door logs to situations and actions, how certain things look like...etc.
Me asking my friend patate is trolling frostty?
its not even that, it's the fact that all the info asked/given is wildly inaccurate/out of date
Come on you asked multiple times the previous days and you weren't asking patate directly at first
Yes I can, you can also just discuss lore in a group chat, bad argument
And I won't even go other the fact that you incited the other guy to post the anime armpit in this channel which got swiftly handled by moderators
Hehehehe ok that's true
ok well someone say a stupid gtfo theory to get this channel back on topic
just not ape theory
anything but that
yes sorry:
Snatchers: are they the results of human experiments ?
experiments done on humans or experiments done by humans
it would seem likely. though to what extent we don't know
most likely both
so is: your mom
Both
thats fair
the holding cage where we encounter them is human in design, and well the creature is undoubtedly human in origin.
true
only weird thing is we only find the one holding cell, yet we encounter a great many during the finale of that level
and even more in the overload of d1.
This room has a lot of environmental story telling but appart from that nothing else mentions snatchers so I was thinking about it
the mountains of dead kovac personnel right as you enter the zone does indeed tell a tale.
I love this room
we've seen testing in a similar vat before with a very wrinkly striker.
so who knows.
maybe it was captured, maybe it was engineered.
Why would we engineer dinoās? Because we can is my guess
These priorities are so fucked up that they cannot be true.
pictures don't lie, it is only the intensions we can try and guess at.
Yes, but not when humanity is literally coofing itself to death million a day
I think this testing room is for testing the GLP-2 canisters given their proximity.
I think the snatchers are unrelated
not really dinos. the allens and their meteor is completely unrelated to the dinosaurs other than the fact that their ship crashing into the yucatan wiped them out.
I was comparing to Jurassic Park
we don't encounter any GLPs at all in r6 though
In R7C1
The intention of creating something or reviving something just because we have the ability to
only PiDs in d3
"humanity might go extinct tomorrow and my loved ones are dying slowly... Let me create a super mutant what, a good use of my last minutes in earth!"
the previous objective is acquiring glp-2s
yes, but we don't know how far that site is from this
you'd have to have a copy of wait...
well,
Literally one security door away...
Maybe they were trying to mutate people to resist NAM-V
fuck. you'd have to have a screenshot of the level screen to see the depth to compare.
wdym?
That is the best guess, actually.
After all, it worked for neonates.
In R7C1 you acquire the 9 GLP-2 canisters before entering the snatcher room
for the wrdn, kovac never figured it out in the end.
Maybe... What if snatcher is a fucked up neonate?
yes but i.. maybe i'm confused
Would explain the unusual mutation pattern.
i thought we were talking about this zone in r6.
this is in C1
yes. i was talking about this zone in r6c2
What are you wondering about it?
i don't remember.
these formaldahyde tanks are all over the complex, literally in nearly every mission with a labs tileset
anyway, it's weird with the teleporters. (don't have a pic of e1 teleporter pad) that only one of them has these strange allen.. something or other on the cables.
I'd call them "runes"
that's what i did aswell.
i remember we having a long talk about it before and you convinced me otherwise, i dunno
they weirdly move and shift around the cables.
hard to capture the animation and description of it with a jpg
so many things in relation to the allens are complete mysteries.
we have in-game; runes on cables, a giant sandstone rock with carvings in it, and the funky looking artifacts we collect to get boosters.
The liquid could be coolant and the cables are constantly icing and deicing because of the temp fluctuations
and i guess the data cubes but i don't know how much of the appearance of those have been changed due to insight's meddling like the MWP was
its on the outside of the cables
yes, where icing would occur
changing states does release energy and water in many situations produces light
depending on the coolant it could be something like the chernokov effect(?)
what the fuck kind of sleeper is this? this looks like some kind of gargantuan cyst more than a sleeper.
we discussed this a while back
Beginning of a spitter mayhap?
these are placentas
ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
if you look at the big tanks you'll notice how these placentas originate the growth of multiple sleepers
where all their umbilicals tie back to it
the ceiling stuff in respawn rooms looks completely different though
Maybe related to birthers in some way
fuck, even the mother stuff is more like blobs than anything natural
I believe so
That's because the cielings are embryonic sacks, not placentas
oh beanz, did you see the calcified wood/tree stuff i found the other day?
Oh?
oooooo
re: teleporter pad cables: Do you think C2 SEC's pad should have them too ? I'm kinda bored so I'd be up for some chill C2 run to go check the pad and get a recording, along with the Destination part of that level
I do think / hope it's a parasite. It looks too perfect.
it weirdly doesn't look like the intestines
yoooooo
which was the previous theory that was most popular
is this an actual prop?
It might be the large intestine
or a sleeper?
in the warehouse
its a level prop
i didn't shoot it.
it was dead when i got there
It was in CX as well
disproven now, the large intestines are visable at the bottom
yes but new questions..
Oh the ātongueā?
how did something that big, and that many, eat through a hazmat suit
you'd be practically swimming in them
yup
I don't think its the parasite
well what is it
My weird thought was if the esophagus somehow disconnected itself from the stomach
because that shit clearly ain't natural
tongue
Because the esophagus is very muscular
What about those people who get their tongues pierced
not usually, but the tongue is the strongest muscle in the body with the most conscious control over it
I believe the hole is an adaption by the parasite/virus
But also interestingly enough, the EGGS
those cyst looking things
I thought esophagus because in ShiftACās cinematic videos thereās a really good shot of a big striker tongue āunfoldingā out of a big
(remember no heat sigs)
they aren't cysts because of the vascularisation
yeee
entering my 4th year of molecular and cellular biology
CET?
also smoke coming from the top of a mountain, though i forgot to go through and get another picture to confirm it last time in ran b3
Computer engineering technology
nice!
Active volcano or something burning?
lol
nobody calls themselves a fucking hacker -henriksson
one day I might be a biohacker lol
your an engineer
bioengineer
By our powers combined
honestly, huge options available in bioinformatics
hella impressive field
the random scattered heads on the floor with no bodies in d2 is so.. strange.
so no head?
only heads
all head
no bodies
no sleepers?
yup
possibly
you'd think there'd be way more bodies than that
already dragged away
also they counda just shut the GIIANT door
I mean, if the sleepers disentigrate
they dont, at least not canonically speaking
we find corpses of them ourselves.
I relate to those images
it's kinda weird we don't find any guns down here
not even random turrets that are bone-dry on ammo.
biodegradable equipment?
not likely. a lot of modern-grade weapons are made with steel or plastics
utility that just puffs into fog and dust
Just lazy devs, simple as
I'm surprised they haven't done a room of "defense gone wrong"
these sand dunes are unusally shiny
sand is highly reflective
might be ultrafine or something
definitely below water at some point I think due to the similarities of it to American mountain deserts(?)
Actually yeah it can change its color like one too
Except cuttlefish cant shoot energy missiles
cuttlefish also can't fly.
True
I don't know. I only have the one picture. I didn't notice it until way after the level
terrifying
we'll have to take a look at some point
wait a minute
after we dropped it down what if it just burrowed
oh lord
Sand worms from dune, did I guess right?
No sound of it hitting the ground
Oh, nothing. I just thought that's where you were going with that. I was wrong.
and there were a lot of tentacles
Over the edge of the cliff is nothing but air also. We don't see the ground at all, sadly
I remember trying to look for any landmarks to figure out where d1 was but I found nothing back then
It's just all skybox, even below.
huh
You can't see the bottoms of the tentacles either
So for all intense and purposes model aside, it may not be flying
Just reaaaaaally tall.
But again, that could just be my render distance
I usually only run at medium when I'm not going out of my way to get pictures
And it's not like I can go back and check right now.
So could be 100% wrong on the above.
The disintegration is mainly a performance-saving measure.
Ragdolled corpses are EXPENSIVE on system resources, especially when there's shitloads of them
Deleting a body and playing a disintegrate effect in the same frame is much cheaper
While still keeping immersion at least somewhat intact
Rather than having them just pop out of existence
if you're wondering, physically in the game, the bossfight takes place above the whole level
But yeah you can't see anything
Wasnt it just protruding out of the ground
Seemed like a limb instead of a whole creature
Or I could be tripping
i had posted pictures of the skybox below in here before. i don't know about how much of the model you can see but i am 100% certain you do not see any ground or anything for that matter below the cliff.
down into the fog, and out of view
Yean
d1 is at the peak of a mountain that we have no location for
at least we know alpha two and alpha three are relatively close to eachother, close enough you can tell the mountains in the distance match.
How they built all those facilities with those flyers around is beyond me
I learn something new
they had a LOT of time
destination is 85 times faster than our time.
True
But dont the flyers kinda live there
between ef01 and right NOW, it has been 9 years earth-time, but 765 years destination time.
I havent actually delved into flyers so far
they do. they are infected native fauna.
they are aliens, but they aren't the allens

we have a physical description of one in the edgar/teal log.
at least, an infected one.
Log E105-009

You mean what was there.
TEALE
Is there a difference?

You make it sound like I hallucinated the whole thing.
TEALE
I didnāt mean to--
E105
Iām not a nutcase T...
it can also teleport.
do the flyers eat or do they do photosynthesis?
we do not know, though they- or something else living on destination displayed "pack hunting tactics" against the Durant expedition team
and seemingly plucked out individual members of the team one by one

are high-res images of them.
destination is a very strange place
given something as fundamental as time works differently in that world-line, who knows what else works differently.
whats dis? space meatball ?
Guys, I have a theory, you know how lickers in resident evil games are mutated/evolved from zombies
What if the sleepers in the video game GTFO are mutated or evolved from zombies like viruses
Sleepers in GTFO are the product of human being infected by the combo of a virus named NAM-V and a parasitic creature that has a symbiotic relationship with the virus: the virus has a 100% fatality rate but the parasite instead keeps the host alive, allowing it to undergo the transformation
There in in-depth description in the "for dummies" document.
So it's just like the zombies in the video game Back 4 Blood
There are no zombies in gtfo whatsoever.
This conversation has been had a hundred times in the last 4 days.
When infected and turned into a sleeper, the host doesn't die. It's living tissue and matter are reused and mutated by the parasite to fit a need in the hive.
A "zombie" requires reanimation, but the hosts never die. They are simply piloted around like meat puppets until eventually either they are shot and killed by us, or the parasite mutates them enough to remove their capacity for thought to be able to recognize or understand their situation
Were it dead flesh, the virus would not be able to stay active in that. The parasite and its hosts must be kept alive.
So even if it's not what you would consider "human" anymore, in some sleepers at least, there is the potential for the person who was infected to still be somewhat conscious and aware of their surroundings while at the same time being unable to control their bodies.
I don't know if the reanimated element is ever required in modern use of the word "zombie".
Days / Weeks Later infected are still commonly referred to as the zombies, even if they are just insane because of the virus.
The common use of the word is something like a human that doesn't act like one due to outside influences. But once a certain critical mass of mutation and body deformation is achieved - it stops being a zombies and just becomes a monster. Sleepers are too far gone for even mainstream zombie classification.
Hell, most people would never guess they are ex-human upon first encounter.
even the mayans, the most unbiased group in this universe, referred to them no less than as demons.
Interesting! I always figured it was a fungal outbreak in symbiosis with a parasite, some of the infected look to take on much more of the fungal aspects and some the parasitic aspects (strikers having a huge worm shoot out and the "shooters" having a lot of what appeared to me to be fungal growth covering their heads). I honestly wouldnt have suspected it to be a virus. I thought the fog may have been spores, which is fitting with the very mold like growths on some of the walls. Also you mention the Maya, were these infected on the surface where the Mayans could have come into contact with them? I figured they were restrained to the underground based on their photosensitivity and just how deep they are, like I thought it would have only started to surface when people mined into the crater (Im assuming this is what happened)
Sorry to nerd out, I find the biology of whats going on very fascinating
The Mayan case is very interesting: during their history (in lore?), they had multiple "Flea Demon" outbreak, and the 'root' cause of all of them are earthquakes -> the parasite+virus are underground, stuck within the rock of the meteorite (the one that killed the dinosaur 65million years ago), the earthquake caused it to escape just enough to infect the locals. Due to the low population, they wouldn't survive for long, which is why it didn't turn into a global pandemic at the time
Frostty explains it better
So yeah mining had basically the same effect as the earthquake: releasing the deadly pair
And speaking of photosensitivity, I believe it's only bothering to them in their sleep state, as they can be seen attacking on the surface of Destination without any difference in their behavior
(it might just be due to gameplay tho)
earthquakes opened up the surface levels of the meteor
apparently this has happened a couple of times for them
but given how isolated the ancient world was, it never got a chance to spread and go global.
Hey guys, i have been out of the loop since before r6 ext, i'm currently getting up to date on the pinned documents. Are there some new big theories going around from r6ext/r7?
not really theories, but there are several major discrepancies that were uncovered since then
one of which being the schaeffer discrepancy, where in 6.5 we got logs detailing his venture through the vents to KDS-Deep
where he initiated the lockdown that we lift in r5 and had gotten himself stuck inside, so he entered an HSU to avoid starvation.
problem being, he was in wrdn hands prior to r4 when he breaks free.
but wrdn only has access to KDS deep after r5e1 when we lift the lockdown and tap into the terminal
i never read about Schaeffer being in wrdn hands prior to r4 ; is there a log on that?
Thanks for the summary !
That does make sense, though the Mayans were far more connected than I think is being stated, they would have to have some trade routes the the Aztecs, who had a massive empire with plenty of other tribes under their control, Im surprised they wouldnt have been wiped out. During the 1700's after the Spanish had settled in Mexico there was another large eathquake, interesting to think that this would also have been localized, considering Mexico had become more global by this time
This is... my name is Schaeffer. That's- (laughing) That's all I know. (stuttering) I don't remember. (grunting) Focus... Yeah, I know. Yes I know! It's okay. They can't hear me down here. FUCK THEM! (laughing) FUCK THE WARDEN! (laughing) (clearing throat) Call me Schaeffer. I don't know who you are, or if it will ever be heard. I don't know. I'm not going back up. They'll be looking for me, the warden. I must- maybe they think I'm dead! What if they've come for me? What if I'm giving myself away here? What if I- Listen... I was in a group, there were four of us. They're all gone. But I think there are others. Maybe you, if you're hearing this. Maybe, you came after us! Or, before. Or, I don't know. I don't know! But there are signs. I've seen signs. There are others here, I know it. There's blood, fresh blood. The air, it smells different. Something ALIVE was here. Maybe they can help me! Yeah, that's it! But how do I trust them? They... have... to... prove themselves! Yes, yes! They have to go deeper. They have to get me... something... yes... YES! They have to get me something. Not here though. They have to go deeper. Go Deeper. I'll be waiting.
Def interesting to think about Mayans and Aztecs fighting off hordes of these infected though, the Aztecs (not as sure about the Maya) had exceptional ranged weaponry, but thinking about the more physical battles is interesting
i want to see art of that
spears and early muskets vs hordes of sleepers in super-dense jungle
Ngl I kind of want to draw this now, Ive been drawing a lot of Aztec designs lately so this might be a new project!
Ah thanks, i've seen this one. But i'm not sure i see where the discrepancy is
Some of the notable R7 novelties (there's a lot more):
-What actually are sleepers (NAM-V + Parasite)
-Incorrectly waking up someone from their HSUs causes their brain to melt
-The Warden is fighting the control over BIOCOM, everytime BIOCOM is about to remove the Warden, it gets reset
-The scientists on site were maybe a little too deep into experimentation and they might have created Snatchers out of them // not really sure about that, it's really new
-Schaeffer got Henrikson out of the HSU, and they're working together
-Destination has water, and maybe volcanic activity
schaeffer breaking free of the wrdn an entire rundown before wrdn has access to his hsu
he locked the doors because there were already sleepers down there. he was down there for something like a week before he decided to get into a pod
What i'm not getting is why would wrdn need necessarily access to his HSU, since it didn't free him anyway
Not related (aside from Aztec influence), or anywhere near finished, but I think my art style would compliment this, I mostly draw monsters and skeletons and shit. Ngl Id be tempted to draw it the way Aztecs drew, that would be neat. Time to get busy!
all ksos are stored in HSUs. we are in HSUs as we drop into levels on the freight lifts. to get schaeffer, he'd need his HSU. and we know for a fact it had schaeffer, because schaeffer explicitly says "FUCK THE WARDEN!" and not "FUCK BIOCOM!"
here is his final pre-kso audio log.
its not about freeing him, schaeffer did that himself somehow.
its about having access to him before that
ie; you can't lose a dollar if you didn't have one in the first place
Ah ; that he was either able to initiate the lockdown, or used as a KSO by the WRDN then ?
he was "normal" before then. while in KDS deep, he says he knows what HSUs do to people, that it's no secret.
he didn't even work for kovac before, either. he was a clearance lv3 pit boss working for santonian
Yeah, in my mind the track record for him was pretty clear, that he was just a random guy from the company who got stuck and entered a HSU as a last resort
correct.
was he able to break free because he entered a HSU willingly and was sent on a mission after? because he didn't get the KSO conditioning?
no
because dauda also entered an HSU in a similar manner
and dauda, like the rest of our squad is still under control
oh yeah thats right
wasn't Dauda's entering much earlier, though?
thats true too
The HSU effect appears to take time, from the early logs about the stasis process
maybe Kovac had time to get to work on Dauda but not Schaeffer
not quite.
dauda got into an HSU while being completely swarmed by sleepers
so we can assume they were relatively close events during the timeline
and much like schaeffer, dauda didn't work for kovac.
dauda worked for dreyfus
I remember some discussions here (not sure what sparked it though) that Schaeffer may have been surviving a fair length of time by himself before being cornered
I think he said that he had been there for a week
one of his origins logs talks about him looking for food in the cafeteria, but the place was completely taken over by sleepers
Since the HSU effects take some time to fully "activate" (from the early Red Alpha mission logs), could it be that despite being implanted with an objective stack and "piloted" by wrdn, the memory loss effect wasn't as bad on him ?
he mentions finding about a hundred of them there
give me a second, i know it was a matter of years between the collapse and r4
i can math it
we have dates for both
well, rough dates, but matters of months is close enough
~2057 to ~late 2063
that he was asleep for
Ah damn, i didn't realize it was that late. iirc when i was last here it was strongly debated how long the whole apocalypse took
i can tell you exactly how long
all of humanity was expected to be dead by the year 2059 according to STOT calculations
it is currently the year 2064
Its not contained to the facility we play in?
nooooo
OMG
that shit went global about 15 years ago
Holy shit
pls read the "for dummies doc" in the pins
99.98% of (human) life on the surface is dead.
I need to apparently lol
has been for a long time
Jesus
yeah the whole planet is dead
Plants too??
we dont know about plants
Whooo as long as my plants, mushrooms, and decomposers are ok Im coolin
look at the bright side
only the virus got out
so it's only corpses
not sleepers
ah i shouldn't have used that word, i meant things going fully to shit in Garganta itself and Schaeffer locking himself in
do we know that for sure?
Honestly its prolly for the better we were mostly wiped out,
yes.
The virus would eventually die off without suitable hosts
correct.
With plants and decomposers earth would start again
however, an unknown potential problem/
Without the plague of humanity
the World Health Organization planned an expedition to the source of the virus.
garganta
we don't know if they were successful
ah yes, the WHO shortwave log?
but if they breached the bulkheads and got down here...
then the parasite would have a way out.
WRDN very early on put the entire facility on lockdown and sealed everything tight.
Planet's already fucked anyway š
yes, but without the parasite it could potentially rebuild given a few thousand years.
Whoever survived up there isn't numerous enough to be likely to encounter sleepers even if they're free
Virus prolly helped realistically
I cant tell if the WRDN is good or bad tbh, hopefully WHO didnt let the wormies loose š¦
I admit i'm not buying the "humanity 100% extinct" scenario, but that's mostly because i'm going by the general assumption that you can't kill every single individual...and realistically, some communities bunkered down as soon as things went wrong
we do not know.
do we know if the virus affected animals?
its most likely not
At the very least some doomers in their bunkers
it's more than reasonable to assume there would be ~100k left due to just isolationist peoples and doomsday preppers
yeah
For sure
Couple of islands and shit
Isolated tribes and shit
Enough to maintain humanity as a species, not enough for anything regarding modern civilisation
Id imagine it would atleast affect other mammals, it would have to leap over biological classes to infect others
Regarding the WHO expedition it feels unlikely they did anything if WRDN locked things down
At this stage things would have degraded badly enough that they wouldn't have the means to overcome its defenses, surely
Normally Id say I couldnt imagine it affecting invertebrates, plants, fungi, or maybe even reptiles/amphibians, but because its not from earth that could be incorrect, because its alien it could wipe out everything
yeah if it could be transmitted by animals it would definitely make the surviving populace even lower maybe even zero
Do we have any data about how it interacts with animals Frostty ?
none afik
It doesn't seem to kill plants, given that rundown 7 has a lot of plants
vegetation all around B1 and D1
Wouldnt really make a ton of sense for it to, considering it would have to jump from one taxonomic kingdom to another
Feels like all the "health and safety" type logs after the virus escaped would have mentioned animals if it was the case
tru
we get some of these pretty late in the crisis (NATO collapse, millions of deaths, etc) so they would have noticed
On another matter, anyone remember when were the first sleepers sighted? I'm trying to get all the dates in my mind
humans in garganta I assume
we don't know specifically but we have a range
I guess when they are first logged
probably quite a lot earlier than what was first logged since Kovac tried to keep all info supressed
i know its sometime around the autopsy in september of 2053 https://www.notion.so/Timeline-0e93a62e8cfd44b3a36beb4ab245a2d0?p=5a665d8b1b634e1490c04998f04e9cb5&pm=s

let me see if i can find a specific date as to the earliest mention
i checked all the 2053 logs and didn't see anything clear earlier
if you count the infected allen as a sleeper, then the date would go to january of 2053 with the edgar/teale log. https://www.notion.so/Timeline-0e93a62e8cfd44b3a36beb4ab245a2d0?p=be964f47904647b191d3ad6149a9228b&pm=s
Log E105-009
Date: January 16th 2053
Patient: Employee E105 (Edgar Soweta)
Att. Phys: Dr. August Teale B023
//HearSay auto-transcript begins//
TEALE
Describe to me what you saw.
E105
You mean what was there.
TEALE
Is there a difference?
E105
You make it sound like I hallucinated the whole thing.
TEALE
I didnāt mean to--
E105
Iām not a nutcase T...
technically, no.
Beyond the physical description
though the chances of it being infected are significantly higher than it being a living allen, it cannot be ruled out.
On a completely other thing - have we gotten new infos on the Mimic since Schaeffer bashed its head in ?
you mean u22?
yeah
not much story left to tell, so i'm not sure what you mean
I was wondering is the neonate another one of those things?
it's one in a sequence
we made what is now known as u21 in r2-r3, we encountered u22 in r6, and we are currently making u23 in r7
Has there been clarifications about its nature ?
Last i was here, it was debated a lot
the units are repurposed neonates from the rise project
it is the wrdn using what is left from that project and combining it with genetic samples of NAM-V to create units that are completely invisible to sleepers
u22 being the closest to a success so far, though it still triggers scouts.
Ah, that's a new big info to me š
what was the fate for u21
we dont know what happened to it
sleepers tore it to shreds?
we know it wasn't the same one as u22 because u22 in r6 was born 3 days ago
probably, given u22 is still only partially successful
(though don't get me wrong, being invisible to everything but scouts is fucking HUGE)
thanks a lot for the info - got a lot to catch up on
yeah
I wonder if the scout trigger is more than just touching the feelers. Is it just something moving touching them enough or do the feelers detect or sense more than that
so, the Warden is a bot. does that mean the Warden is a bot?
Warden is some sorta software that was injected into the already active AI biocom, kinda unclear how intelligent either are.
and the game the warden is playing, v1.WRDN.16 what's that about?
Thats his gameboy dont take it away from him
New Characters??
Does anyone have at hand the time of the first reference to the Warden, or/and biocom being taken over?
There is no 100% certain time.
On first thought, first 'fishy' event in the timelie would be broomcloset log off the top of my head.
But I could be wrong, I'd have to look into it.

Biocom flags another Schaeffer&Artus communication during the Explosion in the Inner: October 13th, 2053.
Biocom repeatedly requests access to Garganta's power control system with an access attempt to reroute power KDS-Deep in a manner that would have overloaded almost every subsystem in the entire facility: April 5th, 2054.
Biocom sends a KSO to stand in a broom closet for 6 minutes: May 4th, 2054.
^It's almost as if someone was testing me to see if we'd notice. I'd appreciate it if you told me if this was a test of some kind. I don't want to burn hours on something like this if it was contrived.
KSO knows about C-foam and how it works despite never being given training on such an item and on another mission, a different KSO exhibited the same behavior: August 30th, 2054.
Security doors are not responding, causing many to die in the lower levels to the sleepers, unable to escape: November 25th, 2056.
Biocom flags the WHO shortwave radio broadcast: April 20th, 2057.
That is all we have. the very first "WRDN OVERRIDE" we have on record is the PCS-Alert UNAUTHORIZED ACCESS LOGGED log in June of 2063.
@grizzled frost
@solar nova any additional context you know for the Emergency Blast Data Transfer? could this "unknown" file that got added during the EBDT have been wrdn?
@harsh saffron , @rocky wraith i'd like some additional interpretations on this find rather than just my own.
and if so, given it was during the Explosion, could the WRDN be allen in origin?
big hmmmm
Hm, I just assumed somebody used the chaos caused by the explosion and new rules etc. to install the Warden.
Or that the Warden IS part of the new security measures that Dean Lockwood mentions; but who knows ^^
Can you be more specific?
The EBDT is just a server, presumably the main server, catching fire or being at least partially destroyed.
So it uploads everything it can elsewhere.
not really, just asking for all info relating to it.
Thanks for the details
new shadow lock melter
pseudo lore question: What if that horrific whailing we hear as the mission objective appears in our HUDs - during the end of our descent into the facility - isn't just 4th wall ambience, but is actually the bone chilling echoes of the brake system that our drop tower of doom has?
I think it's the brakes, indeed
I always assumed it was the brakes, not 4th wall ambience, and I'm pretty sure it is supposed to be the sound for the brakes
ok cool because i did think it was just spooky music for a good bit, but im glad the community thinks similarly to my epiphany š¤£
Another lore question: Do you think that the "Mother" entities require insemination of some sort? or do you think the mutation just allows them to fertilize egg cells freely?
Alternatively maybe it can do both and unfertilized embryos remain as lil mouth babies, but with some sort of fertilization it births other things
that is a very tricky question, to which we have no answer.
The only thing we have is observations, and that is, in-game it can birth seemingly an infinite number of times, but on a cooldown. So it probably is able to fertilize egg cells freely. Of course, in-game things don't always translate 100% to the lore version, but I like them to, so that's what I'm going to go with as an answer to that.
Though, maybe with some special circumstances or something, it would be able to create other creatures, yet to see if that's possible.
remember, things like the ceiling cocoons are also infinite despite only housing one sleeper each.
Yeah, and can even respawn giants when the cocoons are all small.
And respawns them in the exact same positions as before.
and the despawning of enemies corpses almost immediately, despite finding corpses that have been set for quite some time.
yup, video game things that wouldn't translate to lore easily
but if possible, I like them to, so that's where my assumption goes, that's my bias lol
No insemination needed. As no new genetic material is required, everything they need they already have
Asexual reproduction is fairly common in biology and seems to be preferred to by the Sleepers
all seen sleepers except mothers are missing their gonad mothers, mothers seem to be the main driving force for producing sleepers, the Nests/Hives also are theorised to create sleepers, though the exact way they do that is unknown
There is still some biomass needed, mother can't produce babies out of thin air at some point
Self impregnated I can imagine that, but you still need some form of biomass
Cool! So itās possible theyāre not unfertilized egg cells, but clones of the mother. Which means that females can also develop into the biting variant.
I just think they're pregnant women that got infected by the NAM-V
That is usually the assumption but at this point there are too many pregnant women in this deep hole hyper-ass-tight facility where you can't take a breath without some kind of supervision.
yeah the game would be way laggier if they didnāt itās just optimization š
imagine having to walk through like 100 corpses for every alarm
Im glad they added the blood splatters, shows the severity of combat without having a bunch of laggy ragdoll corpses lol
and a chokepoint after a class v, mine and 2 sentries .. that doorway / hallway looks pizza'ish š
best splatter i got was an upstairs bonk and a piece of sleeper dropped from the railing, bounced off the floor and onto a wall, and made a bloody impression _ on the wall _ .. š
Reactor bridges looking like a lotta tomato sauce when its done
Given how we found DNA plasmids called pMOTHER samples, I think mothers were artificially produced
None of them that we have seen the mothers directly give birth to are clones, which means genetic reassembly is taking place. But in the case of cloning like parthenogenesis with the respawn rooms producing mothers it's possible
my only confusion is that if its cloning how are the babies all biters rather than shooters? I thought that all of the genetically male humans (Xy genes) became biter types and all of the genetically female humans (XX genes) became shooters. Is it possible that this is only the affect of adult humans being infected and newborn infecteds could grow into anything? or that all newborn infecteds are stuck as biters?
mutation can't replicate the Xy gene like that, so the mother - unless fertilized - is only making more females, which is where my questions are stemming from
actually it can, you only need a few specific genes to be translocated off the Y chromosome or karyotic non-disjunction to take place. Mothers clearly have both sets of X and Y chromosomes and the genetic modification capabilities of the virus are unparalleled and could easily control such processes
and males becoming biters and females becoming shooters is the accepted theory for the sleepers that began as humans
directly born sleepers are a whole other issue because of the existence of the respawn rooms and mothers
the reason the biters might be the go-to option for mothers to produce is because of efficiency. It is much easier to create baby biters that require little energy compared to shooters, which obviously have to be invested the energy required for them to shoot their magic missiles, just an idea
God i love scifi alien biology
Im a big nerd for things like Xenomorphs, Zerg, Tyrranids, and The Flood too.
If we ever get to see what Ancient Destination looked like:
(I spent way, waaaay too much time on this. Made in Unreal-Engine 5 W. Worldmaker Tool)
- I have full-quality photos of the render if you want them.
nice
That'd be dope as hell. Id suspect that someday we could find fossils, or ruins of something left to time.
This is all we have in terms of ruins. For now...
is there any images just showing the markings on that? i can't really see in that image
I'll see what I can do.
i found a bunch of old pictures of it.
i knew there were some in here
its mostly just many indented rings at different distances from the center
like a CD almost
or like a tree ring
ancient CD player? maybe plays crazy frog
slime rancher has tons of circular ruins
pic for comparison?
biggest crossover of century
I'm looking for a better image, Google is hiding the truth
ah, i thought you meant horizontal
which is funny, because we both thought of the same thing. why i put a vertical one in this.
as seen in the bottom left, horizontal rings
that's what I was talking abt, hard to find tho
and they're also in a desert so the link is clear
same universe?
how many light-years away is the planet in slime rancher?
i thought destination was in like different plane of existence
it is but its also a physical existance in our own
I have no clue how far away it is
just not the same version of it
but they have portal tech which takes place on a big circle
the MWP needs coordinates in both plains of existence to teleport us between them.
does earth exist in slime rancher universe?
so their must be a version of earth in destination's universe.
it does. i remember the credits song talking about it i think
something about a love story many light-years apart
did you not read your emails in the house?
i have only played a little
One of the best ending game cutscenes along with songs
Edit: Regarding who is singing the song and what the gender of Casey is well...
According to Momoki Park (the developers) Casey is in fact GENDER NEUTRAL and that the person singing t...
1,000
destination is 3,000
in the butterfly neubla (NGC 6302)
so you're telling me its not possible
what is not possible
crossover
that slime-rancher's planet is destination? no.
but what if the allens colonsie the slime rancher planet
maybe, but we have no clue to what extent they colonized the stars.
slime rancher 2 enters early access soon, maybe we'll see some more lore afterwords
is there any lore about allen apart from they are aliens that fly
*have spaceshisp
we know they collected species from different planets and possibly universes according to what hammerstein found in the inner.
we know they mastered teleportation and multidimensional travel
other than that, not much
also they either created or encountered nam-v and the parasite and that's what made them go extinct.
no, the engineers designed that deliberately as a bioweapon, and lv426 wasn't their homeworld
i mean the allens could have made it intentionally as a bioweapon, but i doubt they planned on nuking their own planet with it.
how you know so much lore of everything dang
i write the "for dummies" document in the pins
i do way, waaay too much research on this game.
my entire free-time is gtfo-lore.
extremely based
also aliens was a good movie.
is there any lore as to the ||unkillable tank in E1|| < e1 spoiler
or is it just like that
i'm pretty sure the movie Prometheus is what talked about the black goo being a bioweapon
something something nuke a planet then colonize it with zero resistance
yeah that was the thing same with covenant
I mean thereās a Dauda log that my group thinks has some connection to him
not really much lore as far as i know.
just a tank variant.
i'm interested
we know that biological testing was done on sleepers, i mean we see vats of them everywhere, but i don't think it mentions anything about the immortal.
yeah, i do. was typing.
i dont relly know how to read
I kinda think Dauda might have done some tests on sleepers and accidentally created some form of Pablo
is pablo tank name?
He mentions the vacuum tube thing
Thats what I call it
vacuum tube thing?
this log makes me think the virus is bioweapon
?
thats from C1, no?
Heās talking about introducing sleepers into a vacuum tube, which could have created ahhhhhh
it is.
So Dauda could have created snatchers accidentally
a vacuum. as in, no oxygen.
Yes ik
to see if it'd be able to survive in the vacuum of space
which is how they got here anyway
the inner didn't just teleport in atmosphere, the dinosaurs had to die somehow
but the inner was probably airtight right? wouldnt there still be air in there
i am under the assumption that its a spaceship
almost certainly.
it didn't get out and infect the mayans until earthquakes in the region opened up the surface layers like a bad onion.
is that how earthquakes even work? idk im not a geologist
did the inner generate the earthquakes? because it wasnt on a plate boundary from what i remember
apparently it happened a bunch of times. it only never went global because the village of Ixil (directly on-top of the inner) was too small, so it killed off all its food before it could spread
merida faultline
oh ok
um, i don't know about the inner generating earthquakes.
the explosion was more of a concentrated blast
but given its alien technology, honestly we have no idea what it's capable of.
Frosty, Iāve meant to ask you this many times, but is there anything you know about why large variants exist
that'd be a better question for @rocky wraith. he's a biologist, i'm not.
Aha :3 ty!
most likely
it uses existing genetic material to determine what would be the best kind of form to mutate the host into.
you mentioned gigachad, i had to do it.
another question: what was the complex used for? i thought it was a dig site for iridum? why is there terminals and computers and stuff
it was
Thereās a pretty heavy security system iirc
though eventually after they started finding all this weird alien crap, they brought Insight in to do research
Kovac was there because kovac was in hot water with the world's governments and wanted a nice quiet place to break the Geneva conventions.
kovac had dirt on SMC, so they got permission to move in from SMC's parent company, Dreyfus
Dreyfus is also the parent company of Insight.
its 3 companies, well, 2 mega-corps down in this big hole. and then there is Nyxos. just this random manufacturing company with ties to neither of them
isn't there some drillhead assets?
Yeah in digsite
but makes all their super classified stuff
B2 this rundown
i have pic!
how many areas are there?
8?
Digsite, refinery, storage, lab, datacenter, floodways, garden, alpha
by alpha you mean planet destination?
Yeah
I mean there are zone doors, sooo
only one in canon. and that's the excavation in bx and dx
Maybe they started mining operations on Alpha
they did. thats what this place was
if all the humans are dead, where could the GTFO story really go?
ehhhhhh thats a bit much
honestly this game probably wont end on a high note.
surface is fucked
monsters down here with us
we work for skynet,
i think it'll end with biocom/warden being killed/turned off
probably
Clear out a nice section of the complex to live in
garden would be nice
then die a slow painful death from nam-v because we are all infected and have no cure.
Yup :3
it seems like it probably could
just be glad the surface is only 99.98% dead, and not 99.98% sleepers.
only nam-v got out.
parasite is locked down here with us
i thought they were symbiotic?
they are.
ehhh, we dont know about the parasite living without the virus, but the virus 100% can live by itself
that depends on how much the virus changed the parasite when the became symbiotic.
they were completely seperate before
the dauda log talks about it
^
also doesnt NAM-V give "mild flu-like symptoms"
at first it did.
then as it got used to us it got worse and worse
time-to-kill is 5 weeks.
from first contact. and once you get it, you are fucked.
it will NEVER leave your system
could be worse
it has the highest infection rate in human history and is 100% lethal.
i forget what the R-Naught was.
r-naught?
i'm not educated enough to explain
CDC/World Health Organization statistics for classifying disease or something like that
@subtle verge came up with the original statistics way back when
it was around 16 iirc
an RNaught of 17
:D
what is black plagues, for reference
is it a measure of transmissibility or lethality or both
Expected cases per person infected
R0
[ĖƤrĖnĆ“t, ĖƤrĖzirÅ]
NOUN
medicine
a figure expressing the average number of cases of an infectious disease arising by transmission from a single infected individual, in a population that has not previously encountered the disease:
"early estimates by the World Health Organization suggest an R0 of between 1.4 and 2.5"
thats a useful number
so.. according to state of truth statistics, its worse than that.
Oh
1 sec let me see if i can find it
*You're listening to State of Truth AM. The only news source you can trust.
Over the last few months, weāve seen the NAM-V pandemic devastating our species. State of Truth was the first to tell you about this virus and by God I hope weāll be the first to tell you itās been cured; but until that day, we will continue with our mandate. The cold facts, no matter how difficult they might be to hear, brought to you, the people. This is your right, and it is our purpose.
I have a census report in front of me from the last census, taken in 2050. Now, I know a lot of people out there donāt do the census, right? They already know enough about us, why give them more? But there are millions, billions of people out there who fill these things in religiously, so they can be used as a good metric for where we were compared to where we are now. I also have a leaked copy of the CONDAM report filed just last month. CONDAM is the military statistics department, right?
Okay, so brace yourselves, because Iām about to hit you with some cold truths. The census report of 2050, just 3 years ago, reports the populations of the United States to be 474 million. 474 million people, all ages, and citizens only, right?*
*The CONDAM report, filed in September 2053, reports the estimated population of the United States to be⦠you ready for this⦠302 million.
Thatās what weāre dealing with. Folks, if it isnāt clear to you by now this thing is out of control, I donāt know whatās going to convince you. If you are sitting at home and waiting for the government to solve this thing, it aināt gonna happen. They are digging in, you hear me? They are, right now, devising plans to move the elite class into isolation to protect themselves, because they know the world is on fire. They canāt stop this virus. They donāt understand it, and they canāt control it. It is up to you to protect yourselves from NAM-V. You need to head for the hills. There is no one left to protect you. Switch off the goddamn television, and the bullshit network news, and⦠Take. Action!
Itās not coming, itās already here. If you have any advice for listeners who donāt know about survival, or you need some advice yourself, call us now. This is your town hall. The lines are open.*
all of humanity is calculated to be 110% dead by 2059 by these statistics.
sooner than even punk and daraxus' calculations
Oh right punk hasnāt been around since R7 drop
473m-302m in 3 years for US population
110%?
it's more likely around 2058, but 2059 was what i came to when i calculated it to be a safe estimate
to give it leg-room if its slightly off or people are slightly better at not dying than the data shows
giving humanity the best possible chance in the numbers
but some people would be alive though right?
but probably too spread out for repopulation
it's almost impossible to kill every last person
so does biocom/warden know the world is gone?
but wouldnt they both have BIOCOM's databases?
yes
wrdn is an invasive file that was injected into the biocom network that took it over.
so kinda like a virus?
kinda
the wrdn, like biocom, is an AI
specifically a DI, a decision intelligence
do they battle
they've been trying to delete eachother for years.
devious
though now schaeffer and henrikkson are also in the network..
so now it's a 3-man ffa. WRDN trying to take control of biocom and deal with schaeffer, Schaeffer trying to control biocom to kill the wrdn, and Biocom trying get people to stop controlling it.
Im sad D2 was reworked to spend less time at the mainframe, its such a cool set piece.
its just a big vault full of computers and severed heads.
now if we gon' talk about cool...
data-vault is lit
big true
got the lighting to boot.
Maybe for me, the mainframe being so unique made me wish for more time with it. I liked the original rendition of biocom/WRDN trying to kick us out while we try to install the trojan.
i'd say the same, but it really is only that one centerpiece. there is nothing else interesting there.
its just a sea of server racks beyond the glass.
the entry-door and stuff is cool though
It gives me similar vibes to GLaDOS' mainframe, so I'm a little biased
regardless, I love set pieces like this
especially the Unit 22 variant of the data-vault
the blood trails, the pipe, the body
honestly i really love the teleporters and the bridges.
very angry red lighting is 11/10
also 4,000,000 mines
The reactors always get me, fell in love with their design in r1c1.
the portal gives that same vibe
these?
ah
Specifcally these, not the labs ones
the mining ones just
idk, they are just dope as hell
destination is gorgeous as always
oh absolutely
I got @'d but discord is being funky so if someone has a question to me it unfortunately got missed
About the biology of how large sleepers exist
The larger variants that arenāt an amalgamation of various bodies
I don't believe they came about from conversion from normal people, but instead were the results grown from cocoons and hives etc
:0
That would be the explanation that most makes sense to me, but you'll have to excuse any mistakes I make as I am currently drunk as a skunk and am swaying in my seat.
