I would understand it for voltage spikes, but for not a high demanding load ehhh
maybe he's referring to some old ish thing where they would spike like insane
Maybe they still do but I'd imagine that's been fixed
You'll be fine
I've got an r9 5900x which is a lower power draw cpu but same GPU and my 850 does fine even in high load
No he already knows that but it's just some coworker being stupid about how much power parts will draw
88 on average with room temps being 35 ish celcius.. laptops may have gotten way more powerful in the past 6 years, but still just as hot as i left them
Im looking to build a pc and keep it for at least 5-6 years. For work reason it has to be intel and i got a 3090. Had anyone done research recently into what the best parts are ?
Is it gonna be a CPU intensive kind of work?
Cause you could go for a 12700K CPU if you aren't going to have any CPU heavy workloads
Alternatively if you are able to wait around for some time, Intel will presumably be releasing the 13th gen, so you might be able to have a 13600K or a 13700K, which will make it last for as long as possible, assuming it doesn't end up into another ass lineup like what I think the 11th was? I don't remember
12th gen Intel CPUs are good, but I would be concerned about compatibility and efficiency
the first one shouldn't be much of an issue by now I believe
13th gen release will be this year by the way
That's what the news are saying at least
I just want better power efficiency on hardware 😔
Now for RAM, I saw that there's a b660 board that has two different version to support DDR5 RAM or instead, DDR4 ram
DDR5 RAM may be pricy now, and might be for a good while, but you should probably never need to worry about switching out something like a 12700K or a 3090, those should last well for nearly 10 years
DDR5 at least may improve and you won't need to just buy a board to have DDR5 benefits later on if you ever get an interest for that
But for gaming atm it does not really matter anyway for the DDR4 and DDR5 difference
worth stating all ddr5 sticks run in dual channel on their own
so you could always just rock 1 stick of ddr5 and upgrade it later.
Oh nice, so you'd only have to get 1 stick minimum for what would be dual channel performance?
yes
@fleet canopy
although most games will incur a performance hit on 8gb ram, ddr4 and ddr5
yeah I'd have figured it would still be best to get 16GB either way
Gentlemen
Im in need of assitance on something that ive never seen before
So i have thinkpad x230, awesome machine, it has an ssd in it, i went to travel for a little and since its a little old(like really old) i store in my backpack and left for about 3 weeks, now i finally started it again no big deal
For some reason not only did the battery die but the laptop became astronomically slow for some reason
The battery i understand that it died due to wear and tear
But thw laptop going from snappy and functional to running like a snail i just dont get it
I reformatted the whole thing thinking it would fix it but still painfully slow
Have anyone got an issue like that before?
checked thermals?
Thermals are fine, fan works like usual
Never encounter an issue like this
Google some answer, just the classic poop article about not programs you dont need etc
Shiet i shoukd probably start linux so i can beggin my ubuntu journy

what exactly were you trying to do when gauging it being slow?
Before it was snappy and everything open fine, now it takes a couple of seconds even to open settings chrome
Minecraft went from.running smooth to barely even loading a chunk
hmm could be some component not getting enuff voltage, a bus or memory hella slow due to it
Everything just became slower and takes time to slow
so thermals won't even go up cos there's nothing to drive em up
sounds like what my motherinlaw had on her lappy, charger connected snap snap snap, without veeery slow everything
I should probably make sure all internals are plug correctly and plug it on a different outlet or somethinf
I see
When i get home from work i will try what you said
if u get a new battery, that could possibly fix it.. plugin wo battery can do funny stuff in the bios
Yeah and the battery dying might have moved some settings in the bios
Cant wait to get scammed on ebay 😂
Oh battery its dead dead already
Took it out of the laptop already
Battery so dead windows had to tell me it died
Yeah but I'm saying you should checks the bios to see if something is amiss
Will check.
Some laptops will run slower since the settings are set in a way to reduce the CPU voltage when connected to direct AC, and the battery is removed. Hence when this setting is adjusted, the running speed will go back to normal.
blast your way into bios and look for a nice checkmark to remove (or add)
so maybe plug the battery back into the laptop and continue running on AC ?
good luck my dude, hope u get it running again
Im emotionally attach to that thinkpad
I cannot let her die like this 😫 😫
get a new battery and it'll go on for years to come
Kekw its mosy likely that tho
the ubuntu stuff is not a bad idea per se tho
There was no issues before
Yeah especially with the thinkpads
Apparently everybodu moving to linux, it might be a good idea to get adjusted earlier
Well windows isn't dying anytime soon, but if you like tinkering you shoudl try it out
currently on a 5 years streak without windows 💪
I have to wonder why it's listing 3 different GPUS
Because to the driver it's the same
Ah okay
That's how AMD does it ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Linux gaming superior
Still staying on windows cause im lazy lol]
maybe when I get a new pc setup
Yeah a lot of stuff works on linux now, you can go to this site to check steam game compatibility : https://www.protondb.com/
if u have a monitorless gaming rig then gamestream + linux moonlight works wonders even on crap laptop igpu.. all it needs is h264 h265 hw decode, and they all do
Man, check bios everything looks ok, change some settings, restart, put them on default restart, reformatted again
truly a sad day
put the dead battery back in just in case
still everything just sluggish
minecraft at 2 fps 😔
maybe installing linux would fix it? win 10 its ending support in a year anyways and the x230 doesnt have the specs to support win 11
I have a 2070 super, 3700x, 32gb 3200mhz, and an assload of storage
Yet they say windows 11 will not work on my pc
Linux fix the computer ill be damn
*ubuntu is shite
for gamen
ubuntu
shite
Don't start a distro war pls 😄
Theres no debatw. Amongus os its the best
hanna montana linux is the OG best OS

it even supports overclocking
lol whodathunk, you really can
I even found some fellows that built a liquid cooling system for it
lol and there's even a port of doom
You guys really do know your stuff
Pretty good price for all of them
idk what their whole apprentice and master ranking is about tho
Legend you have to do intel challenges for an entire year, Master is 3 months of it

I need that 4K 240Hz casual minesweeper gaming
Hey guys. What is a good way to extend the wifi in my house? I can't use eathernet because the router is far from my set up. Any solutions? Btw my router does not have WPS
there are some wall-plug range extenders, they take a socket hostage but extend the range of wi-fi once it's done pairing wirelessly
just giving something to look up because regional shop availability etc.
i highly recommend google nest setups with router + ap combo (2 physical devices) .. i have been very very happy with them
router in the "technical space" where the rj45 internet comes in, and the ap blob on the kitchen fridge, mesh test says "signal strength excellent" and all around the house it's problem-free, link-speed, low-latency wifi. thumbs and bigtoes up.
won't the AP require an ethernet cable? I assume that's too much of a hassle to arrange, hence the wall plug design extender suggestion
the ap is wireless, dunno how g coded it but even behind the extra ap its full speed (not half like normal extenders)
the ap only needs a wall wart socket and electricity.. then it pairs to the router (or another ap if many) and transparent wifi mesh action commences
g nest has some models that CAN do ethernet backbone but the one i have just has a power plug, nothing more
Bit of a niche solution, but I'd you have old school coax distributed thru the house, you can use something called multimedia over coaxial to bring internet into a room with a coax drop
Guys, i just spend literally hours doing something trying to learn something, i did manage to get what i wanted but i dont even know how i got it but here, have the results

tldr RX 6600 beats 3050 on every game with 70% of titles, including some new games with a 20% increase or more for 1080p
1440p, it still dominates the majority of the games

Intel brought us the Arc A770 to definitely not test. We certainly didn't show any performance data. For sure.

Would this be a good pc?
for what price? everything is coming down in price as of late so u could probably build something better for the price
also 512 gb is nothing.
as Jedi said
- 512gb is nothing
- would be nice to know the ram speed 16gb might be enough depending on what you do, sometimes i use up to 48-52GB but thats probably rare at most ppl
- in my opinion the 3050 is too weak, ive got a gtx 970 in my server which is 8(!) years old and performs only 35ish % less
- i would generally stay away from AMD due to my bad experience back from the 2000's but its been 12-15years since, so things probably changed
If you're in the US, the 6600 performs far better for 50$ less than what the 3050 costs
Mitsubishi mirage 2022 is tempting but it has poor reviews

hey ! anyone recommends the TUF F17 laptop ?
