love how people assume katana means super fast weapon. Its... just a sword, with a swing speed like a normal sword. The curved blade only means it CUTS better when used a certain way. Also, doesn't really have a place in this setting.

but it either makes them crouch, or spread their tentacle if they are in hearing range.
also, if there is any sleeping ennemy around that wakes up due to sprint, it will wake up the scout
scoots no longer crouch on extend
as tendo already mentioned scouts will only extend it feelers if you sprint near it which is why you'll see experienced players straight up run at it
instead of sleeping and waking up like normal sleepers, it now has three ish phases
its 'sleeping' phase is its walking phase where it just wanders around
imagine [standing] walking past a sleeper, the scout works similarly but its a meter instead of 4 phases (sleep, glow, pulse, wake) Walk or spam crouch to much will fill that meter and cause it to extend those tentacles
think of the meter length as the time it takes for you to wake up a normal sleeper
the only time it will scream is when you
- shoot
- a sleeper wakes up within 7(?)m
- sleeper in the same room screams
it also takes around 0.5 seconds for the scout to scream after triggering its tentacles so if it extends next to you and there are sleepers nearby consider running into the tentacle to hit it, though it takes some practice
I guess thats a long winded way of saying to run if you're near it and it extends its tentacles

AoE effects are inherently OP in gtfo. There aren’t enough enemies that are allowed on the level at a time for it to ever be balanced
people didn't like the idea of stamina and checkpoints

does this game normally tell you when you disconnect? (i'm unsure if this belongs in #gtfo-technical-support) i have a friend with really bad internet who i play with (with bots), and when i disconnect or her game crashes it just leaves me in the mission with everything frozen unable to interact with anything (i get the prompt but it does nothing if i hold it down/use it). my friend told me i was gone and replaced with a bot while instead of me getting to keep playing with bots i'm stuck in a broken lobby while she gets to continue to play. i got disconnected at the first alarm door in B1.

they do start bugging out and freezing at some point if you wake up too many tho
Or by having mother’s birth multiple baby spawns, as moms have their own spawn cap

If you're at the scan door, then go to the far side of the room there is a small door on your left, if you just go straight.
There you'll find another scan door that leads to ||5 scouts and a silent scan and afterwards||the next cube

I made it past the ||5 scouts|| and saw one of my bots approach a medipack, then run away, climb a ladder and pick up said medipack from one floor below

started playing recently with some friends and wanted to know if a strategy that doesn't rely on stealth too much can be effective, we managed to clear the first 2 levels with basically just running and gunning but don't know if this is a good strategy for later levels
Its not a great idea for later levels but you do get a lot of ammo in early levels
Easy levels are short enough to use ammo like that. deeper levels being 1-3 hours in length means you don’t really want to waste ammo on 3 small boys in a room chilling

How would one fresh to the game get started?
@raw violet greetings friend, allow me to assist ur question:
- There are no explicit in game guides. it will not hold your hand. if you wish for a guide, there are some good youtube videos available.
- If you wanna hop into a match, you can go solo with bots, solo by yourself (which is not recommended if you're new), or with players.
- To get started with players: #lfg-beginners is a great place to look, or simply choose which region.
If you have specific questions, I can answer them, otherwise i'm relatively sure you know what you're getting yourself into!
Thank you! I do know it's quite the difficult game, and I'm interested - I might go for the lfg channels, since I feel like having someone who wants to teach me some of the basics at least would be immensely useful
Having someone to teach you the basics is a good idea, but for the best experience I say you should try to search for a group of people who are also new to the game, even better if they are friends
That's usually the best GTFO experience you can sort of have
though if you can't that's also fine
just enjoy your playthrough and try to open your mind into learning the game

It's evident, especially in, say, D4, to plan really carefully, lest you wipe.

I don't think so. The devs intend for this to be a challenging game. Whats going wrong in your run? People here could try giving some pointers, and there are some useful tutorial videos too if you're struggling
The very point of the game is to be hard
Devs have been quite generous in implementing checkpoonts & boosters along with lowering the difficulty overall
I don't think they'll lower it any further
Everything stealth goes well, we even managed scout a few times, but when we start alarm we just cant do it

Use other tools, other weapons, other strats
Don't stick yourself to a single loadout expecting it'll work
I like this game a lot, but repeating the same level after 1 hour run again and again is frustrating
The point isn't to clear every level first try though
I've seen people spend 5h to simply clear the last alarm of C1
More than a week, 6h per day to clear D4
Well the game is only going to get more like that... I'd recommend watching some videos to help you but if you don't enjoy repeating a level or checkpoint many times then you might get more frustrated in future
usually alarm failure is due to 2 things: not scanning the scan and/or not shooting gun

I've seen guys smash alarm swarms with a hammer and still couldn't believe it
only useful when alarm is over, the last bits of last wave can be hammered, otherwise they'll just spawn back in
A common strategy with cfoam and mines is to put a mine on the rim of the door on the inside where the enemy will break in. When they finally break through the door the mine will kill almost all of them. You can make this even more effective by spraying cfoam on the door so it takes the enemies longer to break in. That gives you plenty of time to stand in the scan circles and even more enemies will stack up to get killed by the mine
Thats gonna be a bread and butter tactic for alarms all throughout the game
You can also permafoam (refoam the door) during an alarm if it is too long
If you do it well on both A1 alarms you'll never shoot
yeah that seems logic and could be working even with dumbass players like us
That's why i suggested to try out other weapons, tools and strategies
There are plenty of ways to deal with a problem
(in general right now auto-sentries aren't that good too. They won't kill many enemies but will just stagger them. Burst sentries will serve you better if you want the tool to shoot them)
we've done R5 A1 on I think 3rd try, but A2 didn't completed even after 10 runs
back when sniper sentry was still the greatest

well we have a bit of a confusion here then
However the sentry's light can show you where they are
they can't shoot at them if they're not pinged
As for that question i recall autosentries having a much better aim back in R4 when aiming at pinged enemies
I could swear I watched a guide and they said bio-tracker buffs sentries.. could be black dragon's
Maybe that was merely an impression but there was a huge difference on extreme situations
biotracker does nothing to help your sentryguns, its probably just placebo

nobody has confirmed it, more than anything
If you tried out R4E1 with autosentries, you'd see how good they are at aiming enemies once you ping them
its probably more to do with elevation than anything
on reactor's defense especially
There already is code logic ingame for the sentries to be track-assisted, that's obv from the shadow targeting logic
so it wouldn't be a stretch to implement or clarify that logic

Its not normally a problem, but scouts can actually appear as that tiny red dot sometimes, making them unpingable and harder to notice. It shouldn't happen often (the tiny red dot will still move)
It normally fixes itself in that case after it stops once or twice though

Well the lore isn't laid out neatly, its like dark souls in that you find little snippets and clues in the environment and in item descriptions. (in this case most of the lore is found in terminal logs)

i don't think my ping is that bad currently, but enemies are just sliding everywhere, not like rubber banding but when i shoot them they just slide a couple feet into place. Is that strictly a my connection to the host issue?

There's been a bug since R1 where if you have the pause menu open during the drop it makes everything uber dark and also gets rid of the fog.
It fixes itself if you open and close the pause menu.

As far as I know there is no way to see the ping, but I reckon it would be a very welcome addition to the game tbh.
They said it was a bug and fixed in R6 that sleepers all get concentrated in one room of a zone instead of spread out

the other is where you read the codes from a log file

just downloaded the game today and did my very 1st mission (A1) and underneath it says "Completed [1 , - , - , -]" what does this mean?
difficulties/layers, each of those slots represent beating a level with a amount of sectors also completed
however, not every level has the full 3 sectors such as a1, so the 0s are represented with dashes instead

Hey. On D1 when you need to restart the reactor, is normal that enemy's are always spawning even in the "warming up..." bit? it seams to me that on the in between phases when "warming up" pops up there should not be any enemy's coming or am i wrong?
