but yeeeesh, it is a little spooky to sign up for who knows what
I plan to make a GTFO style one-shot for my DnD sessions, any cool ideas how I could tackle the combat system or fear, maybe instead of actions I could use the stamina/pulse system, stealth combat? If anyone would have some interesting ideas, I'd be happy if people shared :3 Or maybe even share some other shooter-like systems that I could build upon

...definitely I will make some available and balanced loadouts and I suppose scattergun shall be a weapon in one of them, noted o7
the scattergun is kinda the equivalent of a nuke 
if you wanna tackle stamina it would likely make retreating movement less likely to succeed if youve been in combat for a while
melee attacks would also take longer to become ready if in combat for extended periods of time
the 4 melee weapons can kinda work as different classes with some creativity
bat, spear and hammer would still likely be in mind with the charging mechanic with knife probably ignoring it
Stealth would be a lot more complex to input probably. You could theoretically do rolls on stealth take downs with players having to pay attention to glowing enemies or scouts moving around but 
Yeah stealth might be a bit too complicated and too "boring" for a one-shot
And since I want the oneshot to take 2-4 hours, doing like a 1h stealth section might take all the fun away unless I execute it perfectly
I definitely am thinking about dimension travel so I'm leaning towards a mission like r7a1 and/or r7d1
Since a section like a reactor meltdown or transporting/securing a MWP sounds pretty cool
And the 4 weapons - 4 classes is also really nice, just need to think of loadouts that are sort of extreme. Like one guy has a revolver, a sniper, but a knife for close range, the other is a maniac with two shotguns and a hammer, need to work on that
I think scouts can be used pretty well as a "have to take out"
with other sleepers being something that the players can maneuver around or decide to kill if they wanted to maybe
But a scout being killed silently means no extra enemies in combat, with it failing making enemies spawn for sure
I'll need to bring like..... boiled noodles to the table to show where the tendrils are teehee

What do you think the most fun mission to do would be? Like.... first retrieve the MWP, then get teleported, potentially fight some flyers? Then get teleported back, error alarm? I didn't start R8 yet, but maybe you know some missions that could be interesting
And I just want to say, GTFO is SUCH a great idea for DnD. It has literally the perfect start with being dropped a kilometer, just having voices in your brain, remembering barely anything, getting orders and complying, or not...
And ofc [lore spoiler] ||seeing your own corpses in a completely new area|| would go hard aswell
honestly its always kinda the R6 Story% line in a way (though here skipping R6C1 seems better)
(I actually had an idea for a one shot "kinda dnd" for a stream or so before but it didnt happen back then)
R6B1 is a great level as a whole imo
you need to go get a cell where you get your first scout. But theres an alarm before it
then you need to do an alarm for a key, but you encounter 2 scouts that are likely in rooms with enemies
You finish it off with a scarier alarm before teleporting. When you come back you are then chased by flyers
R8 missions are often a bit.. wild
And I wouldnt wanna talk about them if you havent played through em
the kraken fight in R6D1 could also be a cool "big bad" to fight at the end

maybe have its weakspot be inside the "maw" which then mainly opens when it spawns new hordes of flyers so the players have to kill the flyers while also not dying to the projectile (and tentacle) attacks 👀 ?
Yeah and the amount of projectiles makes it only so much more fun, rolling like 10d4 for one person's damage if every projectile hits (aka maybe not enough stamina to dodge out the way). A fun way to scare the players ;^
I was thinking, maybe I should make the tentacles some sort of a weakpoint aswell? Like they're able to grapple the players but also they're damageable to deal extra damage and engage in combat a bit more

R6 is definitely the best series of missions for a DnD campaign
though maybe utilizing other mini boss enemies like mothers or stalkers would be nice
since I don't remember R6 having any in the story missions other than one tank

mostly modded stuff but i think it helps with r6cx and e2
LGTuner is 90% for rundown developers
you can get better performance using it on certain levels but realistically it ain't gonna do much

Short for Level Generation Tuner. It does a huge amount of things behind the scenes in modded to help control layouts of rooms in a precise manner. Simply an absolute staple for modded rundowns. It also fixes some vanilla oversights with level generation such as that can mess up survival wave spawns with area indexing, an example being R4C2 Z55. This doesn't fix the vanilla instances, but it prevents it from happening further.
All that isn't what we use it for in vanilla though. It strongly compliments BCGF by allowing the fixing of props and colliders to prevent some softlocks both for enemies and players. An example of this is the infamous softlock in R5D2, the 2nd highest ladder in R6CX, and the non-traversable door in R8C1 Main for enemies. Similarly, it causes checksum errors if it ends up altering stuff in a level, so everyone in the lobby should be running it if you do. Doesn't require MTFO to be enabled for stuff listed in this paragraph
and speaking of, I need to update wiki since R8C1 is fixed now with it. The door sill prop was missing

Can someone tell me whats the difference between the sniper (the normal one) and the scattergun?

my idea for skill trees were more along the line for things such as Path of Exile were it is stat bonuses like health to reload speed , etc.
playing the game in general would gain you the ability to gain points to then actually completing would gain you more . These again would only be stat bonuses not like payday style skills . Something that will do minor bonus but bonus non the less .
Having bonuses for playing the game over time would be pretty cool instead of just game/enemy knowledge
I can go on but i dont wanna flood this particular chat instead but im down to throw in some more ideas for what i fully mean on the skill trees aspect ...well more of a stat tree i guess

I really do dislike the progression system in PoE, but there are variants used in other games I did like.
Progression system where you make your own kind of "class", being able to switch up different base stats, etc.
And I do enjoy my 3.5
I feel like GTFO could really benefit in that style progress system. Help give people the incentive to try new styles or builds . Go for things such more wider selection of playstyles while still having that unique feeling of every player is different both playstyles and stats

It's great for min/max, but you also land in a "I pick 10 strength for the 15th time just to get the skill I want.
I feel like with a skill tree there are options to improve QoL over time and feel as though progression has been made as opposed to nothing to cater to someone who ends up vetting the game
i figured something small stats could help some but never too much for players where come later experiences you can just breeze through the game without much thought

I think the main reason they don't want a skill tree is to avoid what happened to Payday 2. The skills were incredibly powerful and made even the hardest difficulties fairly easy. They want GTFO to be more about teamwork and personal skill, and not about leveling your character to become a god

Payday: The Heist didn't have that bad of a progression system. Even when you were maxed out, the enemies and maps could still provide you with a heavy challenge. It is one of many things that make me prefer PDTH, in front of PD2
Maybe more like the minor bonuses like .5% bonus to max ammo at start of match or .25% bonus to max health
I don't think they've confirmed it, but I doubt it'll be in the game. They've said they want your class to be dictated by your gear, and not your abilities. Basically, if you want to be a medic, pick a medic bag, etc.

Which i am completely fine with, I understand completely their want of a realistic approach which also puts an emphasis on the horror aspect of the game. Just thought it was an interesting thought and i wanted to share.
I think the reason they don't want a skill tree, and instead put the focus on your gear, is to make the game more about scavenging. You'll find weapons, gear, etc., in the levels. If you add a skill tree, whether minor or not, it takes away some of the importance of scavenging. I understand why some people would want a skill tree, but the way they're designing the gear/scavenging aspect makes so it doesn't really fit in.
Also storyline wise i understand completely on the scavenging point. These characters are going down there to scavenge and recover specific items so scavenging weapons and gear while your down there makes the most sense realistically
There are some great examples out there of tacked-on, useless skill trees that add nothing to the experience of gameplay, and even detract from it.

i feel like they can implement the stat bonus/ stat tree rather than skill tree with more ease but not something that id say should be a primary. just like the idea of : Survive a few matches, your character becomes stronger and can handle the extra weight of bullets or maybe he has a higher pain tolerance or maybe they are slightly faster on their feet or even more proficient at first aid.
Something minor that can effect your experience and your playstyle
For instance i play a medic in most games or any kind of support for my team
So having something like a perk for Healing others would be benificial but not gamebreaking like i would heal slightly more with the medic supplys or be able to use it for longer
then maybe with the crazy bastards who run in balls deep in the mess have it so they take slightly less dmg or deal slightly more when they are withina certain raidious of a enemy
they'll still die all the same if they dont properly think out a battle plan or strategy. But if they just rampage through and get swarmed maybe it could take an extra second or so before going down

peer-2-peer is the cheaper and more future-proof choice for a game that doesn't demand strict adherence to game rules, what with being co-op and all
I'm sure there will be a way to possibly run a headless client to act as a dedicated server, that was the arma 3 solution
Hyper-V can load unlimited instances too so it won't be limited unless it needs a dedicated video card ect...

Was kinda wondering, so when starting the game is it like you are going for a certain point to get something, or is it, you go down to escape, while being tested?
@thorny turret based on what I've seen for the game , it is an objective you are trying to complete and is the reasoning you are going down into these creature infested location . I.e. recover I.D. badge to open gate to access terminal . I dont know how in depth it'll be or if there is a large style escape feature due to them primarily showing beginning of matches and middle not really end sadley .
I could be wrong and they may of disclosed more info about the game but I'm going off what the videos the Devs released showed me
Got the same conclusion from the videos, not totally the same, but in the same way.
How are you guys (devs) approaching game difficulty in its entirety? Are you adding new and interesting monsters or hazards, or tweaking a few numbers like less bullets + harder to sneak, or just making the enemies bullet sponges in the later difficulty, or some sort of mix? If you have different or selectable difficulties at all (or dynamic difficulty).
And if you cant tell/haven't figured it out yet its fine

Yeah, most likely. Again, if there's any questions about certain technical features there's always #4 in the faq
- Will GTFO have feature "X"? (E.g. SLI support, dedicated servers, character customization)
We encourage you to ask in the forum - but before that, please ask yourself: Do you know many other FPS games that have this feature and are developed by a team of less than 10 people? If the answer is no, please calibrate your expectations accordingly.

I've been going back through the questions and I had to bring up one topic that brings some concern to me. Friendly fire, or people who can abuse it to harass other players. is there a way to address this? I'm not too eager to find myself getting killed right before the game start/ends just for someone's amusement. It's also a waste of time to go through. What about people who would intentionally run into friendly fire? I've seen it happen in other games. Like the rest of the whole team runs into an explosive, and the player who used it ends up getting kicked out (I'm sure there are some people that recognized which game I'm referring to by now). Trolls these days...
Why does some enemy have the "Naruto running animation"? Not sure if i like them running like that though.

Are enemies ambient, and spawn evenly across the level, or do they come in waves? Maybe a mix of both?
both, theres sleepers scattered around with more enemies coming from offscreen

@random beacon Everything is an option but not everything is a guaranteed success. GTFO is designed to favor slow and methodical movement over run-and-gun.
The game has a huge emphasis on exploration, stealth, detecting where a fight will be unavoidable and then preparing the surroundings for that fight. You close doors to funnel monsters, place trip mines and sentry guns, spray glue on the ground, etc.
I keep seeing comments where people seem to be under the false impression that the game can be played like a typical shooter... 😉

Yep. Glue Gun can be used to seal doors... can also be used to slow down enemies

Yeah it's 4P coop PvE like PD2 and so on, but you can't really compare it to other games in the genre. It has a completely different pacing.

Right now there are no suppressors in the game. It would make sense for the characters in the game to seek out and utilize suppressors because it would make it possible for them to take out monsters from a distance undetected. But it would also make sense for suppressors to be a hard thing to come by in their situation - they're not special forces and they don't have access to that kind of hardware - so we have a logical explanation for why there aren't any.
What's most important is not whether the characters would want suppressors or if they'd be able to find them, but whether they fit into the game design.
We believe the don't, because once you have a suppressed weapon you're gonna be able to take out monsters without putting yourself in danger. Melee attacks force you to get up close - and that makes you vulnerable. Suppressors would have to be nerfed somehow, but we don't want to have them break so you'll have to replace them and so on - that would only be frustrating.
So no, there are no suppressors in the game. But there might be other gadgets with limited uses that give you a similar advantage.
also suppressors aren't quiet like in video games and movies, they are still pretty loud. just mainly used so you don't need hearing protection

Sorry, no, we don't believe that would serve the game's unique design and/or improve the game's appeal. Our ideas (the one I vaguely described above) forces players to coordinate and communicate, which is what the game is all about. Giving everyone silenced weapons wouldn't make sense from a logical standpoint (why would the characters be able to pick up ammo for all other weapons but not for the silenced ones?) nor from a game design standpoint.

@opal mortar We can't say whether any specific rig will be able to run the game or not, but you can check our rig specs in the FAQ and compare it to yours to make an educated guess.
My educated guess its that it will run,trough sheer brute force but it will run
you can make any DX11 title run on DX10, is it worth it tho? (I used dev tools and got 2 FPS in R6 Siege on 9600 GT)

Personally, I think durability functionalities are vague and frustrating. And if they're too exact, like "the suppressor will always break after 10 shots" then it's not realistic. It's better to come up with a solution that gives a good reason for why the item could only be used x amount of times (or it's a one-use item and you have x amount of them). It'll make player accept the logics of the item, and it will be easy to keep track of when you're running out of uses.
Id rather it come out later once everything is balance tweaked

co-op games usually have a lot of leeway when it comes to latency - they can allow heavy compensation and even delay enemy attacks or movement, since they're just AI and won't cry about it on a subreddit. I don't think lag will be a great issue here.
So what kind of gear can we be expected to find? I mean guns, obviously. But what else? Armor mods? Special tools that might open alternate paths? Things that enhance the UI?

Since ammo is limited, your melee weapon will be your primary weapon in most cases.

Probably
Medpacks are one time use, so, like ammo, they’ll be limited. You don’t want to use one just because you lost a little health. You’ll want to save at least a couple for revives and critical health situations.
Also special weapons should be used only in specific situations like approaching a big horde or a special type of enemy :)
Do medkits take up their own slot or can other equipment take its place?
everything has a rng,loot (locked medic/ammo crates) the map iself, the puzzles, enemy spawn (which type) how many they spawn, the code for the big blue circled door, the laptopt to get the code/locate
basically everything, + start location, exept yourself (health and dmg and ammo xD)
so there is like allways a unique level design

Hey! I saw in the FAQ that it’s not recommended to go solo for this game but we can still play solo on this though right? I kind of want to go into it solo once beta or the game releases to check out the game alone. I know they said they won’t have any bots because it would be too complicated but wanted to check to see if you could start the game if you are alone.
Although, it did say it’s possible to play solo so I’m safe to assume that I’m able to start the game if i’m alone in the lobby?

Not sure if you'll be able to play solo, but the game is designed to be played with at least one more player and it won't accomodate for solo play.
So techincally you may be able to, but it most likely won't be enjoyable at all

The music in GTFO is incredibly adaptive and goes from ambient bits with no perceivable tempo all the way up to super intense action/horror music with lots of aleatoric symphonic stuff.

This is a game that will grow and evolve post release, both in terms of expeditions and weapons available - to answer @steel wadi 's question about expedition length and @mild ravine 's question about weapons.
What kind of music are we gonna be hearing during Expeditions?
@vocal bridge No it's not "if you're dead you're dead". You can always be revived by your teammates, and they have to do that to progress because all members of a crew are required to pass through many doors and puzzles.
@prime mirage The music is very sparse and ambient, but of course rhythmical elements come in as you engage the monsters. It's inspired by horror music and hybrid movie scores, all put through whatever you'd call the filter of my personal style.
Just thinking about it is getting me hyped. HUGE fan of your work in PD2.
Just got to thinking. I understand with such a small team to even make this work would take a lot of effort but with the style of gameplay do you see a possible VR support later?
